Here There Everywhere - The Beatles

Week One

He finds her on a bench out in the ambulance bay. Her gaze, far away, her fingers fidgeting with her mask. It's been a great couple of days with them. They've been getting along. There has been a lot of talking and a lot more other things, it's been a while since he has seen her zoned out like this. The truth is it makes him nervous, but he just has to trust that her healing takes time and it will have ups and downs.

He approaches her and she looks at him and she suddenly lights up. She smiles at him and gestures for him to sit next to her.

"Hey!" She says. It was perky, and cute, and he breathes out in relief.

"Hey. You okay?"

She shrugs at first. "Yeah, yeah, I am, I think"

"Is it Tom?"

She furrows her brows at him. "I thought we're past this Tom thing."

"We are. But I mean, with him leaving, I figured you'd be at least sad?"

"He left?"

"Oh. You didn't know?"

"Uh" She chuckles softly "No, I didn't know. Was he fired?"

"No. He's… saving the world with Avery or something"

Teddy just rolls her eyes "Well, good for him, I guess"

"Yeah. I just thought you were sad about that."

"Nah, I really didn't know. I was just on the phone with Meredith. Making sure she's doing some follow-up exercises. There's still so much we don't know about the long-lasting effects of the virus so I was checking in"

"How is she?"

"She seems good. Bailey's gonna go see her." She gives him a little smile and leans against him "How's your day?"

"I'm working with Amelia on this patient, Skyler. Seems a little bleak."

"Oh I'm sorry, babe. It's Amelia, she'll figure it out." She says, taking his hand into hers and gives it a squeeze.

They sit outside for a few minutes, just enjoying the fresh air, because fresh air is a luxury these days. The Covid floor is seeing some relief and there seems to be a light at the end of the tunnel.

So he squeezes her hand back and leaves a kiss on her head. He's relieved that she's okay. He's relieved that she doesn't seem to care that Tom Koracick is gone. Maybe now he really believes that Tom was just a coping mechanism or something. That he wasn't a significant person in Teddy's life. Now he breathes a little better. They'll be fine.

"Pizza for dinner?" She asks, as she plays with his fingers. He knows she gets antsy and her fingers fiddles with whatever's near her.

"Sure."

"I'm buying"

"Okay." He says and presses his lips in her hair and breathes her him.

He needs her beside her at all times. He needs her. He needs to feel her. He loves her.

Week Two

"Hey!" Teddy calls out from behind him. He turns around and waits for her to catch up.

"Hey! What are you doing here?" He asks, smiling. He can't help but be giddy around her. She brings it out of him. He's always excited to see her.

"Just wanna see if you have time for lunch? Or coffee? Or just a walk or something? Things are under control downstairs, so I figured I'd ask. But I mean if you're busy that's okay too. I can just go by my—"

"—No, no. I have time."

If there's anything he's realizing these days, it's that he can't take her for granted. That he'd take every chance he has to be by her side, to listen to her thoughts, to hear her laugh, to make her laugh, to hold her, to kiss her, to make her feel loved. Losing her was one of the most terrible feeling he has ever felt. It wasn't all her fault. Maybe he had some faults too. But he's not going to let that happen again. He's here now. This is the only chance they'll both have with each other again.

"How's Skyler?" Teddy asks, as they walk to the coffee cart outside the hospital. The sun was out, and they're both not going to pass up an opportunity to sit outside.

"We don't know. Scans are not showing any brain injury, but she's still not awake. Amelia might have to do a trach if there's no progress. Which obviously sucks because the dad has been waiting in the waiting room every day since."

"Of course he is. That's what parents would do. God forbid anything happens to the kids, I'd also be out there, I'd probably break into the hospital."

"I can't even imagine." He sighs.

"But if there's no brain injuries, then there's still hope."

"Yeah, there is." He says, giving her a little smile. "Two coffees please?" He tells the coffee cart guy, who has been their lifeline during these long days at the hospital. Owen hands Teddy a coffee and they sit on the bench.

"You know what I was just thinking about?"

"What is it this time? Burritos?"

Teddy laughs, throwing her head back. He'll never get tired of the sound of her laugh "No" she says, gently hitting his chest with the back of her hand "Although that sounds good. I was thinking how nice this last couple of weeks have been. I just feel like things are really heading for the better? And that I can get through anything as long as I have you by my side."

"I'm happy to be by your side. And I'm happy with each other, but Teddy, you can get through anything. You're Teddy Altman. You always just get through whatever it is."

"Sure, yeah, but it makes it easier to have each other. To go home to someone and talk about our days. Talk about whatever comes to mind. Someone who actually understands what you're going through. I'm just saying, I just don't think I can get through without you."

"Me too"

"Yeah?"

"Yeah. You always get me. It's just different with us. We fight, we get over it, we move on. But the understanding is still there. We are so connected, even if we don't want to be around each other, we just can't help it."

"Isn't that something?"

"Definitely"

He gazes at her. She's different. She's… happy. She's glowing.

Week Three

"Hey" Teddy turns around as he approaches the kitchen. He chuckles at the sight. Teddy Altman in the kitchen with a spatula in hand and she's even wearing an apron. "I"m making dinner." She says joyfully.

"Oh" He says, a little nervous. Teddy doesn't really cook. He walks to her and wraps his arms around her from behind. She turns to give him a quick kiss and goes back to her sauce "Hello" He says, arms still wrapped around her while she stirs her (questionable looking) sauce. It feels good to hold another human being.

"Hi. How was work? Skyler awake yet?"

"No, not yet. How was your day? You got out early."

"Yeah, it wasn't too crazy."

"What are you cooking?" He peeks over her should

"Uhm, I'm making pasta with pesto sauce? I wouldn't say I'm 'cooking'… I'm kind of just assembling." She says almost defensively.

He breathes her in. She smells like everything delicious, and he leaves a kiss on her neck "It smells delicious. I'm sure it's good. The kids are asleep?"

"Yep."

"I know it's such a pain to put them down but I kinda wanna wake them up and just give them a squeeze."

"Rough day?"

"Kinda."

"You can wake them up but if they're cranky you deal with it"

"Deal" He says, leaving another kiss on her shoulder and pulls himself away from her to check on the kids.

To his surprise, Allison was wide awake and standing on her crib. As soon as he opens the door, she reaches her arms out to him.

"Dada!"

"Hi munchkin. Why are you awake" He says picking her up. She wraps her little arms around his neck.

"Dada" She giggles.

He doesn't understand when Allison turned into a toddler. How their little baby was just rolling over one second and now she's walking, toddling around their home. He misses when she was just all eyes, but he's enjoying watching her learn her things, just as much as he enjoyed watching Leo do the same things.

"Do you wanna see if your brother is awake?" Owen whispers to their daughter. She just puts her head on his shoulder and whispers 'dada' quietly. "Can you say Leo?" He asks, his big hand rubbing her tiny back. Allison just responds in some gibberish that resembles her brother's name. "Good job"

They walk over to Leo's bedroom and he finds him sprawled in his 'big kid' bed. His one hand clutching his stuffed elephant, the other thumb in his mouth. He gently removes his hand from his mouth and Leo stirs awake.

"Hey buddy"

"Dad" He says sleepily

"Wanna hang out with me and mom for a little bit or do you want to keep sleeping?"

The little boy just yawns and snuggles his little stuffed animal closer "Sleep"

Owen just chuckles "Okay fine. Just you and me, Al"

Allison just clutches onto him. And he carries her out into the kitchen.

He knows they are setting rules and boundaries especially with their children and their bedtime, but some days he just needs to be reminded of all the good things in his life. He has an amazing family. He has two healthy and safe children. The rest of the world is on fire, but everything is safe and good in his house.

"Leo doesn't want to hang out with me but look who I found wide awake in her bedroom"

"I knew it." Teddy sighs defeated and Owen just can't help but chuckle

"Did you give mom a hard time tonight, Al?" Allison just giggles and gives Teddy a cheeky smile. "When did she get this big?"

"Remember when she could barely hold her little head up" Teddy says, pouting. She plates their food and she hands him a plate, but he's too preoccupied at memorizing their daughter's features.

"I miss that"

"Me too. They just grew up so fast." Teddy sighs "Maybe after this whole pandemic, we can focus on working on a time machine and then we can go back and watch these little humans grow up. I feel like we missed a lot."

"Yeah, that would be nice." He laughs.

Week Five

"So did the dad get to talk to Skyler" Teddy asks excitedly "That's incredible"

"I mean she's still not awake.. but it's something."

"Yeah, definitely"

They're snuggled in their bed. Legs tangled. His arms around her tightly. It's how they've been falling asleep since getting back together. It was like making up for lost time. Or afraid that the other is going to walk away.

"This Skyler thing…" He sighs "It's really putting a lot into perspective."

"Yeah?"

"Yeah, the Skyler thing, the whole pandemic, the whole situation. The world is on fire. We know this, hell, we met during a war and the universe just keeps throwing things at us and we keep getting through it because we have to. And we have these kids and we just have to keep going and we have to keep going through what we have to go through for them."

"Yeah. We do."

"We have to do all the work so they grow up in less messy world."

"Or…raise them so they can get through anything life throws them"

"That too"

"Owen" She says, sighing. His gets nervous all of a sudden. The gravity of her voice alarmed him slightly. "Do you want more kids?"

"What?"

"I was just wondering. You've always wanted children. We have two, which is amazing. But do you want more? Like, did you have these images in your head of how big our family is going to be?"

"I used to. Maybe three kids, two at least. But it doesn't matter to me now. We have two perfect kids."

"But what if another one just happens to surprise us? Would that be the worst thing?"

"No. Absolutely not? Are you trying to tell me something?"

"No… no. I was just thinking"

"…Okay"

"Okay."

"What about you?"

"Do I want more kids? If I can, then why not?"

Owen just kisses her forehead "Yeah, why not."

Week Six

Owen steps out of the shower and Teddy is pacing in the bedroom, biting her fingernail, which she never does. He had a long day at work he was just happy to be scrubbed down and showered, but now it seems like there is an issue.

"What's wrong" He already knows something is wrong. Teddy's panicked eyes and the pacing.

"I'm late."

"For what?"

Teddy just groans and rolls her eyes. "I'm late. Like. Late."

"For?"

"My period, Doctor Hunt!" She sighs "I'm never late."

"How late?"

"Like, a few days. So it's probably too soon to take a test but I'm never late. Like Ever. And my boobs are huge and sore. And my senses are …sensitive, like I could smell you from over here and that's not normal."

"Should you take a test anyway?"

"I guess. But. No. It's fine. If I don't get it this week and then I'll take a test"

"Just take the test."

"I don't have a test."

"Fine I'll go get some."

He can feel her panic so he offers to go to the store. A billion things run through his mind. Their conversation a week ago. His conversation with Amelia before heading home.

Their conversation a week ago was brief. It was a lot of what-if's. But what if those what ifs are coming into fruition. Is this something they both want? Yes, absolutely. Is this something they handle? Sure, yes, they can handle anything at this point. They'll figure it out.

It's definitely not the worst thing in the world.

He makes it back home in record time. Teddy was still pacing the living room but this time with a glass of water in hand.

"I figured I'd keep drinking water while you're getting the test so I can pee. I can't pee when I'm nervous."

"You're nervous?"

"Of course I'm nervous. Aren't you?"

"Kind of? But also excited?"

"Okay" Teddy says, taking a deep breath. "Ready?"

He hands her a bag with the tests and she disappears into their bathroom. He paces outside and waits for her. His mind is blank all of a sudden. He can't think of anything else other than the possibility of having another child. She opens the door and pulls him into the bathroom. The test sitting on the counter, and Teddy sits on the tub.

"What?" He asks, wondering why he was pulled into the bathroom.

"Now we wait. Wait with me. Distract me. Talk to me."

"How long?"

"Three minutes"

"Longest three minutes"

"Owen what if I'm pregnant?"

"Then we're having another baby…. Right?"

"Right. But … can we do this? We can do this? Like, realistically?"

He sits next to her on ledge of the tub and takes her hand. "Yeah, of course we can."

They were both startled by the little knock on the door, followed by a soft "Mommy?"

"I got it" Owen says as he gets up. "I'll be back."

He opens the door and Leo's sleepy eyes are staring at him. He already knows their son had some kind of nightmare and wants to be tucked back into his bed. So he obliges. He carries him back into his and tucks him in and sits with him for a few minutes until he falls back asleep.

He thinks about their reality. That they could possibly have another child. He thinks about how once things starts to calm down in their home, things get stirred right back up. And he has some doubts and some fears, and he's certain she does as well, and surely a new baby won't fix any of their issues their working on, but it's not the worst thing.

It will just be a beautiful chaos in their home. They're used to chaos. If they're having another baby, it will be hard work. Of course. But they'll manage. They'll make it work. They always make it work.

He gets up once Leo is asleep. He makes his way across the hall and knocks on their bathroom door softly. Teddy opens the door with a smile and she cocks her head to the side.

He can't help but smile back.

i got a lot of reviews about a third towen baby and tbh guys i was so on the fence about it because i can't wrap my mind around it. but this is greys anatomy and i wont be mad if they have another baby. BUT WHAT I DO WANT is more scenes of them enjoying the children they have. that's what I actually want. All four of them. just being cute and domestic.
