Prompt: "If I wanted you dead, you'd be dead."
"You know," Beca said with a shrug as she squeezed the stake in her hand. "We don't actually have to do this. You could just stand there and let me stake you. It would be much easier." It was almost a shame, the slayer mused. This bloodsucker was really hot.
The vampire with the red hair, Neanderthal brow and red-rimmed blue eyes just snorted, fangs flashing white in the moonlight. "Really? But I wouldn't want to spoil your workout. You certainly need it."
The brunette slayer chuckled softly. "Insults, Chloe? Are we really going there now?"
The redhead held up her hands. "Right. Sorry. Sometimes the demon inside me gets snarky."
Beca nodded. "Well, I guess you can't really blame it. I AM about to kill it."
Chloe sighed then and to the slayer's surprise, just sat down on a gravestone and shook her head. "You know what? Maybe it IS time for it to just be over. I'm a hundred and eighty-three years old and I'm getting kinda tired." Her face morphed back into its fully human form, and she laced her fingers together in her lap. Beca swallowed. The woman really was beautiful. "You're young, so I know you don't get it, but I was on the damn Titanic, Beca."
"Actually," the slayer sighed as she ambled closer and crossed her arms. "I do kinda get it. Stuff gets old, even for me. I mean... how many times have we fought at this point?" It was a rhetorical question and she blinked when the vampire shrugged.
"Eighteen."
"You've been keeping count?"
Chloe shrugged again. "I guess I have. You... um... you're the only slayer I've actually... liked."
Beca blinked again. "Um... what?"
The vampire straightened and paced away a few steps, then turned with her hands perched on her hips. "You know... um... other slayers I've met are kinda bitchy. But you're cool. At least you make the fights fun."
The brunette's eyebrows were stuck to her hairline in surprise. "How many slayers have you fought?"
"Oh, I dunno. Six... seven maybe?"
"And here I was, thinking I was the only one for you," she teased.
Chloe paused a moment, then looked down. "Beca, can I ask you something?"
The slayer shrugged. "Sure."
"If a woman was to, you know, ask you out on a date... what would you say?"
Beca smirked and folded her arms. "I guess it would depend on who the woman was."
The vampire nodded slowly, tugging her bottom lip between her teeth. "So, it wouldn't be an instant no?"
"Chloe, are you asking me if I'm into women?" the brunette laughed.
Blue eyes lifted sheepishly. "I... um... I think I'm actually asking you on a date."
Beca swallowed, eyes wide with shock. "Ok, let me make sure I understand what's happening here." She pointed her stake at Chloe. "You... a vampire... are asking me..." She touched the stake to her own chest. "The Vampire Slayer... on a date?"
Chloe paced back and forth in front of her. "I know you don't know me," she said, gesturing down her body. "And I know you're supposed to just kill vampires. But Beca, I'm not like other vampires. I don't kill humans and I haven't for a very long time."
The slayer was floored, and she just stood there, staring at her adversary as her hand rhythmically squeezed her stake. "Vampires always kill humans, Chloe," she said then.
"Over fifty years ago, I was living in Europe, when I came across a camp of gypsies," the redhead began. "There was a girl... petite, brunette, beautiful soulful eyes like yours and I... I wanted her. I..." Tears rose in her eyes, and she shook her head. "I drained her, left her body in her bedroom and went on my way. But her family was into witchcraft and... they hunted me and when they caught me, cursed me. That was the last time I harmed a human."
"Cursed you in what way?" Beca asked softly.
Chloe looked away and took a deep breath, wiping at the single tear that escaped down her cheek. "The girl's grandmother performed a ritual to... return my soul. That's why I'm tired, Beca. It would have been easier if they'd just killed me instead of leaving me with the guilt and the battle within me between the demon and my human soul. I don't want to hurt humans."
"But it's ok to kick the shit out of me?" Beca scoffed.
Chloe grinned a little. "That's just exercise," she replied. "Plus, I know you can take it. I haven't been trying to kill you. If I wanted you dead, you'd be dead."
Once again, Beca was a little shocked. Chloe was one of the strongest vampires she'd ever fought. The thought that she was holding back was a little scary. "It's a good thing you're cute," Beca finally grumbled, shaking her head.
The redhead smiled. "So is that a yes? To the date?"
The slayer thought about that for a moment. "I... I don't know if I can trust you," she said, and the vampire's face fell slightly.
"Right... I... I guess there's too much history between vampires and slayers," she said. "Ok... want to just fight then?"
Beca sighed, looking up at the moon. "Not really."
Chloe shrugged. "Me neither."
The slayer shifted a little on the gravestone. "Um... want to just like... talk some more?"
The redhead smiled. "I'd like that." She took a seat in the grass, crossing her legs underneath her. "So, how long have you been the slayer?"
"About a year," Beca replied. "It kinda snuck up on me. I had no idea I was part of the line."
"You were called at around the same time I moved to Barden," the vampire commented, running a hand through her red hair.
The slayer tilted her head. "Do you think that's related?"
Chloe giggled softly. "Beca, a slayer has to die for another to be called. I don't..."
Beca was suddenly on her feet with her stake in her hand. "Did you kill the previous slayer?" she asked, eyes narrowed. "Is that why you're here? Did you come to fuck with me?"
The redhead's face morphed, and her fangs extended as she got to her feet too. "Don't," she warned. "I told you I haven't killed a human in years."
"Don't tell me what to do," the slayer growled, moving closer. She charged at Chloe, but the vampire simply stepped out of the way, shoving the younger woman as she went by and slamming her into the side of a mausoleum.
Then Chloe grabbed her by the throat and pinned her against the wall, rolling her eyes as her face morphed back into its human form. "Too slow," she growled, pressing her nose to the slayer's neck and inhaling deeply. "But, damn, you smell good," she added as she pressed her lips to soft skin.
"Chloe," Beca gasped, grabbing at the hand pressing against her windpipe. "Chlo..." She was a little ashamed of how turned on she suddenly felt as the vampire pressed her whole body against her. "Don't..."
The redhead sighed and rolled her eyes as she let the slayer go. "You really don't know me," she said, stepping back. "I'm not going to hurt you, Beca. And I did NOT kill the last slayer. It's a total coincidence that I came home close to the time you were called."
"Home?" Beca scowled, rubbing her neck. She wasn't really hurt but she felt like she had to make a show of being indignant about the whole thing.
"Yeah, I'm from Barden," the vampire nodded. She giggled then. "And I remember when you were born, oh mighty slayer."
"Seriously?" said slayer replied incredulously. Then she smirked. "You're THAT old and you're asking me on a date? Cradle robber." Then she pointed at Chloe's suddenly rosy cheeks. "I didn't know vampires could blush."
"Shut up," Chloe mumbled, turning away. "It sucks being perpetually twenty-three, you know."
"Oh yeah," Beca rolled her eyes hard. Her body was thrumming with energy, and she couldn't help but flirt with the gorgeous vampire. "It must be so awful being young and smokin' hot forever."
The redhead grinned back at her. "You're not so bad yourself, you know." Her feet moved her closer to the slayer. "But I'd feel a lot safer if you'd put that stake away."
Beca sighed and nodded. "Sorry." She slipped the stake into the back pocket of her jeans and then held up her hands. "You're safe."
Chloe nodded. "Thanks. Sooooo... now that we've decided that we like each other, how about that date?"
"Jesus, Dude, you're like a dog with a bone," Beca laughed. "And I'm pretty sure I didn't say a thing about liking you."
The vampire chuckled and shook her head. "I can read you like a book, Beca Mitchell. You were practically panting when I kissed your neck. Your heart was beating so fast."
"And you. Chloe..." Beca tilted her head. "Do vampires have last names?"
The redhead shook her head exasperatedly. "Of course vampires have last names. We were once human, you know!"
"Right, Smartypants," Beca nodded. "Then what's yours?"
"Beale," Chloe replied. "But it's been a long time since anyone's used it."
The slayer felt an inexplicable pang of regret at that. "Ok, Chloe Beale, I..." Beca realized she'd forgotten where she was going with her point.
"You were telling me you like me," the vampire supplied helpfully, a sweet smile lighting her face and making butterflies flutter in the brunette's stomach.
"Oh, right..." Beca replied. Then she stopped and scowled. "Wait, that's NOT what I was saying."
"I'm pretty sure that's what your body was telling me," Chloe added sagely. She came closer, then walked in a circle around Beca, making her turn too. "I have heightened senses. I could smell..."
"OK STOP!" Beca held up her hand. "We're not going there."
"Your blood," the vampire finished with a smirk. "What did you think I was going to say?"
It was Beca's turn to flush red. "Nothing," she muttered, but she couldn't help the little smile that seemed determined to stay on her lips.
Chloe was suddenly closer, brushing against her as she kept slowly walking. "I know you like me. Why not just agree to the date?"
The slayer sighed. "Chlo, where would we even go? I mean... it's not like we can go to a restaurant. Hi, Mister Waiter, I'll have a steak and my date will have a tall glass of chilled blood please."
"Person temperature," the redhead corrected with a little grin. "Chilled blood sucks."
"Ok... ewww," Beca made a face. "No."
"Besides," the vampire went on. "I could just cook dinner for you at my place?"
"Cook... food?"
"Jesus..." Chloe rubbed her face in exasperation. "Yes, just because I don't eat food doesn't mean I can't cook it, Beca!" She shook her head then. "Ok, you know what. Forget it. If you're not interested, you're not interested." She turned to walk away but the slayer reached out and took her arm, stopping her.
"Sorry, Chlo," Beca said. "Look... ok... um... I AM interested. I'm just..." She took a breath and then blew it out.
"A slayer and a vampire, I get it," the redhead said softly. "But... I don't think either of us is a typical vampire or slayer."
And Beca couldn't really disagree. Chloe had surprised her several times in the thirty minutes they'd been together. "Ok," she breathed. "The answer is yes. I'll go on a date with you." Her eyes narrowed then. "But I swear, if you try anything..."
"I'm not allowed to try anything?" the vampire interrupted with a little eyebrow waggle.
"Well, I mean... anything that involves fangs and pain," the slayer clarified. "Other stuff might be ok."
"Other stuff like what?" Chloe asked innocently and Beca rolled her eyes before pulling her arm to move her closer. She gave in to what she'd wanted since the redhead had shoved her against the mausoleum.
"Stuff like this." She leaned in a placed a sweet kiss on the vampire's cheek. Chloe's fangs suddenly descended but her face didn't morph.
"Sorry," she said, covering her mouth with her hand. "Sometimes it... um..." She consciously made them retract and then smiled. "Just happens."
"You're kinda cute," Beca teased. "When you're not trying to kill me."
Chloe shrugged. "You too."
"Ok, dinner at your place... tomorrow night?" the slayer asked. "I'll bring the wine."
The vampire pulled out her phone and brandished it. "Can I have your number?"
"It's six... six... six..." Beca replied with a smirk, making the redhead laugh and pull her close to hug her.
"God, I really want to kiss you, Mitchell," Chloe said against her forehead. "Would that be ok?"
"I think that'd be just fine, Beale," the slayer replied with a little smirk.
And it was way better than just fine when they eased apart moments later for Beca to breathe. "Wow," Chloe murmured. "That was electric."
"Yeah," the brunette agreed. "So... um... how about you show me your place?"
"Now?" the vampire asked, still holding her friend's hips.
"Now," Beca confirmed with a smile.
"I'll have to clean out my coffin," Chloe deadpanned.
But Beca just laughed and kissed the older woman again. "That doesn't even sound that bad."
The vampire grinned widely. "Ooooh! Kinky!"
