Leo sighed. He stared at the ceiling of his bedroom. He couldn't sleep. He didn't feel like it. He laid there for a while until he heard a door opening and closing. It wasn't his brothers because they never cared if they woke anyone else in the middle of the night. He heard soft footsteps pass his room and down the hallway. Leonardo quietly got up and slipped past his door. Le could barely see in the darkness. He flipped on one of the lights and found Cori sneaking out of the lair.
He leaned against the wall and said "Going somewhere?" Cori turned around and frowned. "How'd you hear me?" "I'm a trained ninja with sixteen years of experience. I think I'd be able to notice you sneaking out of the lair. Why are you sneaking out of the lair anyways?" Cori rolled her eyes and said "To go see if my mother's okay. I've already told you this once. And besides I'd like to wear something other than this hospital gown." "I thought you kept some extra clothes here?"
"I took them home to wash them obviously. Now can I go, Dad?" "Sure," Leo said. Cori opened her mouth to argue but then closed it. "Wait, really," she said, surprised by Leo's answer. "I'm saying you can go. I'm not your father. But if you do go, I suggest that you should let me come with you. You did pass out from what Raph told me," he said. "Alright let's go," she said. "Wait first…" Leo went back into his room and grabbed his coat. He handed it to Cori and said "Put this on. I would give you shoes but we really don't have any." "I'm wearing socks," Cori said with a smile as she put on the coat."Let's go," Leo said as he ran past Cori.
She followed behind him as they ran through the sewers. "You know, I haven't trained you in a while. Maybe we should soon. Well when you're not sick," Leo said. "I'm sick and I'm doing just fine now," she said through ragged breaths. Leo turned around and said "I'm not even at a full run." Cori ran past him and jumped over a puddle. "You're a jerk, you know that," she said. Leo ran up beside with her and bumped her. "Oh, sorry." Cori bumped into him. "Oh, my apologies." "No, no, it is my apologies that are in order," Leo said as he bumped into her. They did this until they finally got to the surface. Leo followed Cori up a fire escape. "Which apartment's yours," he said as he climbed onto the roof, "I don't remember from last time."
Cori looked around for a while until she finally pointed at a brown building. "Across the street let's go." "You live next to Chinatown?" "What, oh yeah. I mean it's not the actual one, just a smaller version. It's about a block away. But they still hang up their lanterns here," she replied. Leo walked over to the edge of the roof and walked onto one of the lines that held up the lanterns. The rope sagged a bit but it was strong enough to hold him. He walked a little forward then turned around. "You coming," he asked. Cori gave him an incredulous look and said "If you're expecting me to walk across that then you are mental." "Just hold my hands and I can walk you across it." "I don't have gloves, and connected to one turtle is bad enough already," she said.
Leo looked down at the street below and said "Check the coat's pockets. It should have gloves in it. I mean, its three fingers but I think you'll manage." "Great," she said unenthusiastically as she pulled out the black winter gloves. She hesitantly walked to the roof of the building. She grabbed Leo's hands as she stepped onto the rope. The rope swayed but then became still. "If I die I'm going to haunt you in my afterlife," Cori joked. Leo took a step backwards as Cori took a step forward. She wobbled as she did but balanced herself with Leo's help. "See, with a couple of years you'll be doing this by yourself like a pro," he teased. "That's just great."
Finally they reached the other side and entered Cori's apartment. Leo waited outside for Cori as she got her clothes. He wasn't waiting long until he heard Cori yell "What the hell!?" "Here we go again," Leo mumbled as he climbed through the window. Cori was standing in the doorway of her room. "Cori, what's the—" Two purple dragon thugs were staring at them among a disarray of furniture. "I got it," Leo said as he jumped forward and attacked one of them. He dodged one of their punches and kicked one in the head. He punched the other one in the stomach. He picked up the one still conscious by his collar and said "What happened here?"
"I don't know, I don't know!" "Yes you do know, now tell us," Cori said. "I don't know. The Kraang were here. We saw them come in here. After they left with this chick we went in to loot the place," he said. Leo looked back at Cori. She looked at the floor. Leo turned back to the thug and said "When did they get here?" "I don't know. Like half an hour ago. Please just let me go, that's all I know." Leo let go of him and said "Go get your friend and leave. I don't want to see your faces around here ever again."
The thug nodded and carried his friend out of the apartment. "Cori I—" "It's okay Leo. Even if we did get here when the Kraang were here we would have been crushed. We didn't bring any of our weapons. I'll go get my things." Leo looked around the room. Furniture was tossed around and valuables were smashed to pieces. "I'm sorry," he said quietly.
