Chapter Two: Dreams.
As Sonoko slept she did not dream of a house covered in blood, a village covered in bodies or the monster that caused it. Instead she dreamt of something totally different. In this dream she was the one doing the killing, and instead of a village it was a desolate field with only people and bodies.
She could feel how her body moved and how her katana effortlessly cut through people due to her skill and how sharp the blade was. At the time she didn't think about how she didn't have any of these skills in the real world. All she could focus on was how she managed to dodge, parry or block every cut aimed at her. Everything seemed so real and fake at the same time. She felt like she was and wasn't the one making the movements. After the battle she remembered the surroundings fading until it slowly resembled her room.
Sonoko woke up confused. She doesn't know where she got the dream from but it seemed like it was too real to be something her mind just randomly made up. She got up to leave the bed and make breakfast since she couldn't think straight right after waking up.
Upon leaving her room she could smell something nice coming from her living room. After entering her room she could see assassin in the kitchen making some breakfast, now seemed like a good time to talk to him so she struck up a conversation.
"Good morning, I didn't think you could cook assassin."
"Good morning to you too master"
"So after school today we are going to go around town so you know where everything is, then after that I will brief you on the people who are most likely going to be in the war"
"Okay, though you should probably go and eat before doing anything"
"Yea, well I'm gonna eat and leave now. Bye!"
After this Sonoko is going outside to get to class.
'Why couldn't the grail war be in the summer or something, class is boring and a waste of time'
While playing on her phone waiting for class to start she sees Tohsaka enter the room. She is immediately on guard even though she hides it.
'Tohsaka Rin should be one of the master's of the holy grail war. Even though she probably hasn't summoned her servant I should be wary around her.'
While thinking, Tohsaka appeared in front of her and they just exchanged greetings.
"Good morning Sato-san, I see you are as early as usual today."
"Good morning to you too Tohsaka-san, I can also see you're quite tired today."
"Well, I stayed up doing things yesterday. Anyway it was nice talking to you, I have things to prepare for."
When Tohsaka said she was doing things yesterday Sonoko wondered if it was related to the Holy Grail or just some random magecraft. She hoped her servant hadn't been summoned yet.
After class had ended she was going back home. While going home she was thinking about the weird dream she had this morning. After a bit of thinking she realized the only logical explanation for the dream was the dream cycle that servants and masters have. The dream cycle was essentially a thing to allow servants and masters to connect on a deeper level through the use of seeing each other's past in the form of dreams.
Coming out of her thoughts she realized she was already in front of her house. She decided she would not tell the assassin about what she saw and she would not pressure him into telling her anything right now. Figuring this out she went inside the house to tell him they will be exploring the city now that it was night.
"Assassin, I'm home and it's night so let's go explore the city to give you a better sense of your surroundings."
"Welcome back master, do you plan to go out immediately or do you want to rest first."
"It's only around 6 PM. I think we should start exploring at around 7."
"What are you going to do for an hour"
"I will be telling you some candidates for the Holy Grail War and telling you information about magecraft and my abilities."
"What a responsible master I have."
"Anyway there are probably going to be 3 masters that I know of. There will be someone from the Matous, Rin Tohsaka and maybe Emiya Shirou. The Matous are a part of the group that made the grail so one of them would most likely be chosen. The Tohsaka's are just like the Matous since they also helped build the grail. Emiya Shirou might be chosen since his father was quite a popular magus a couple of years ago."
"How do you even know these people, you don't seem like the type to interact with other magus."
"They all go to my school and are there in some of my classes."
"From now on I should probably follow you to class just in case. You are going to school with 3 potential enemies after all."
TIME SKIP BROUGHT TO YOU BY SONOKO TELLING ASSASSIN ABOUT RANDOM THINGS
Sonoko's plan today was to go to class then show her servant around the town. Everything was going according to plan and assassin was learning about the places around the town that servants could use. Everything was going according to plan and the Holy Grail War shouldn't start for like another week, so she doesn't understand why she is seeing a blue haired lancer with a red spear in front of her right now.
"Ahh, Finally I didn't think I would find a servant so early on. When my master sent me to look for servants I didn't think I would find one when we still have around a week for the war to start. So miss, what say you call your servant out right now."
After saying this he seems to look more focused and less relaxed than he was a short while ago.
"Come out saber and fight lancer."
As soon as Sonoko said that she saw her servant rematerialise. With his sword already out the sheath he also looked ready for fighting lancer. Lancer, seeing this smirked and he looked quite ready for a fight.
"It's been a while since I last fought, make my first fight of this Holy Grail War interesting saber"
"I hope I live up to your expectations"
Right after he said that the assassin immediately rushed towards the lancer hoping to end the fight in an instant. As expected lancer ended up blocking and attacking him.
Sonoko couldn't really see what was happening all she could tell was that they seemed pretty even as of right now.
"Saber, This is quite enjoyable but how about we stop holding back as much."
They started fighting again but Sonoko could tell something had changed, they were attacking each other with more strength and when she was able to make out their forms now she only sees flashes and shadows. Eventually they stopped again and she could see they were both relatively unharmed. Looking closer she can see that lancer had more cuts on him than the assassin did. Lancer looked at assassin and started speaking again.
"Sorry saber it seems like I have to go back, master's orders. I can't kill you here since no killing before all seven servants are summoned. I'll be leaving now and that was a nice fight we had saber, I hope I get to fight you again in the Holy Grail War. Bye."
After saying this, the lancer started running away. While he was running, Sonoko contemplated whether to have assassin chase him or not.
"Master, do you want me to chase him or let him leave?"
"Let him leave assassin, we can't kill him before the war officially starts anyways. Anyways, we explored enough today let's go back home."
The assassin just nodded and he dematerialized back into blue particles. As Sonoko started walking home she seemed more alert than before. When they arrived home Sonoko started to speak again.
"I didn't expect there to be any servants summoned that would attack us tonight."
"This just shows how we should be more alert from now on."
"Yeah we should. Anyway how are you assassin, did you manage to gain anything from that little encounter?"
"I am perfectly fine, neither me or lancer took any real damage. I managed to learn that the lancer of this war will be quite troublesome."
"What makes you think he will be troublesome? Do you think you can win if you were both fighting with full strength?"
"Even though he was holding back he was still quite fast and strong. He seems to be an extraordinarily powerful lancer. Though even with this I am sure I can most likely win against him, It all really comes down to his noble phantasm."
Hearing that response a lot of the tension in Sonoko's body disappeared.
"Ahh, that was a really stressful situation, I'm glad he actually thought you were a saber from that encounter. It was a really good idea on your part to act like you are a saber to confuse the other servants."
"I am to please master."
After saying that Sonoko just stared at him.
"Is there a problem master?"
"Can you stop calling me master? It makes it seem like you view yourself below me or something."
"If that's what you wish for master"
Sonoko is now throwing things at her smirking servant.
"You're doing this just to piss me off aren't you. If you are, you should stop."
"Okay Sonoko, Is that all you wanted to talk about or are you planning on asking more questions about me."
"No, that's all I wanted to talk about, anyways good work today assassin."
Sonoko starts leaving the room and going to her room. When she was leaving, the assassin dematerialized and left the room.
TIME SKIP BROUGHT TO YOU BY ASSASSIN LOOKING OUT FOR ANY SERVANTS.
Sonoko once again dreamed of something different than her usual dream. It was a different scene this time. Instead of being in a desolate place with only her and bodies she was now in a room talking to someone else. She couldn't make out the figure of the person she was talking to, all she knew was that she was looking at them.
"Since you are back I assume you killed them and completed the mission …a….. Your payment is already on the table, go and check then leave my sight."
The man did nothing but check the table and after making sure everything was right he began to leave. When he walked out the door instead of the dark room she was just in she was hit by the brightness of being outside. Eventually the man could be seen walking away from the town and going to a different location.
Sonoko blinks and notices she is in front of another town. Before she could see the name of the town her vision becomes unfocused as everything goes black. She wakes up confused on what happened in the dream. She decides to talk to him about the dream when she comes home from class.
A/N: This is the second chapter. It probably has a couple mistakes in it. The main part of this chapter was the dreams. The assassin vs lancer fight was something I had to make up since I don't really know how to make good fight scenes.
Comments are appreciated, Bye.
