"Maybe we're just not meant to be..."

"Kayla?"

A voice suddenly broke Kayla out of her trance as she frantically turns to her side to see who was calling her.

"Kayla, you're okay?" Jack taken aback by her sudden jolt then asks with a softer tone.

"I... y-yeah... I'm fine..." Kayla stutters as she turns her head back to the piano in front of her. She then starts writing some musical notes on a piece of paper.

"Are you sure?" Jack asks again this time raising an eyebrow.

"I'm fine, everything's peachy." She answers shortly as her eyes was glued to the paper in front of her not really focusing on it.

"Really? Cause... you've been staring at the paper for the last 12 mins!" Jack points out which made her stop as she realises it.

She looks down in disappointment before dropping the pen she was holding. She moves her face from Jack in shame and he could have sworn he heard a sniff. He then tries to settle her sorrow.

"Kayla... I know the break-up with Zi... I mean it's hard... as in your relationship... I... Ah fuck..." Jack wanted to kill himself for not being able to talk at the moment. He then turns his head to see Kayla smiling a bit and it said enough, giving him some confidence to tell her. He took a deep breath and knelt besides her.

"Kayla... I know it's been hard for you. I really can't put myself in your shoes and it's heartbreaking. But... you gotta move on." Jack tells her straight as she looks down. Deep down she knew what Jack said was the truth.

"Zill's my friend and so are you. And I just can't see you like this. Kayla... as your friend, I'll always be here to help, any time. Come on, don't cry. It really doesn't suit you!"

"Thanks Jack... but... I just feel like all of this is my fault... Maybe if I was just..."

"Hey, hey..." Jack moves in front of her.

"Don't blame yourself. None of this is your fault. Look, things will turn out okay, trust me. It always does, in one way or another."

"You know getting some help would make it better... maybe someone who you can talk to, maybe give some advice..." Jack adds.

Kayla just sat silent as her eyes were glued to the mundane floor. Her mind was still in a blur but she tries hard to shake the feelings off. Suddenly, the bell rung catching both of them by surprise.

"Well, guess it's time to head home." Jack says as he stood back up. He then grabs his back as he looks at Kayla.

"Kayla if you don't mind, I can always walk you home. Maybe some company is all you need." Jack offers but Kayla shook her head slightly at his nice gesture. She tries hard to put on a smile as she looks at Jack.

"It's ok Jack, you don't have to... I'll be fine on my own." Kayla tells him in a soft voice.

"If you say so... Listen, everything's gonna turn out fine alright." Jack reiterates with a reassuring tone.

"Well, see you tomorrow then, bye Kayla..." Jack waves his goodbyes as she waves back at him. She just stares at Jack exiting the theater before looking back at her notes. She took a long time staring at the scribbled piece of paper, processing what Jack said as she lets a sigh escape her lips.

She packed her things and left the academy. She took a bus ride home but every second of the ride, she just stared outside the window, her mind pondering on what happened to her. As her head rests on the window of the bus, her ears permeating with the constant vibration of the moving vehicle, she just can't stop thinking of how it went downhill.

"All of this isn't just working out..."

Kayla suddenly snaps out of her daze at the sudden sound of the bus door opening. She frantically looks around to see no one in the the bus. She then looks outside to see an unfamiliar area.

"Dammit, I missed my stop!" She curses as she immediately stood up and exited the bus in a hurry.

She then looks around trying to identify the area and but nothing was familiar to her. Luckily, there was a map on the bus stop as she scans her location. She breaths a sigh of relief after knowing she wasn't that far away from her usual stop.

As she was walking around, she notices the silence surrounding her. Somehow, even if it was creepy, it felt calming as it cleared her mind as she just focuses on the silence. As she continues her step, her ears suddenly perk when she hears a commotion in front of her.

She saw three male mammals surrounding a woman. It was a pack of wolves towering over a female cat.

"Where you going, pussycat?" One of the wolves asks her in a malicious tone as the cat just stares in fear.

"I'm g-going home!" She stutters as the other two takes amusement at her scared reaction.

"Why so jumpy lady? I ain't gonna bite ya! Well, I wouldn't mind biting a snack like you! Hehehe!" One of the other joins in with a creepy cackle.

"Don't mind my friend there, he's just a bit... 'excited' seeing a hot babe like yourself all alone.. Well anyways, you said you were going home right? Well, any chance the three of us could tag along? We wouldn't mind getting to know you a lil better!" One of the wolves brings his finger under her chin as he takes a good look at her face.

The female cat just stood frozen in fear for her life. She was praying that someone would save her. Kayla tightens her fist at such a horrid sight. She always hated bullies.

"Hey you!! Get your hands off her!!" Her loud scream immediately catches their attention.

The three of them immediately turn their heads to the side to see Kayla with an angry expression.

"Who's that chick?" One of the wolves ask as the 'leader' of the group walks up to Kayla. As he gets closer he notices her bag she was carrying and immediately knew she was a high school student.

"Hello there little girl!" The leader greets her menacingly as Kayla clenches her fists at the notion that she was a little girl.

"Look, me and my friends over there are just having a little bit of adult fun. No harm done at all. So why don't you run back home and do your math homework or something..." The leader mocks her before taking a good look at the kangaroo in front of him. He then notices her 'features' as a corrupted thought suddenly pops out in his mind making him smirk with malice.

"On second thought... you look like a snack as well, then, why don't you join me and the boys and we could have some f-

"Don't call me a little girl!" Kayla mutters, cutting him off.

Soon, his misogynistic words was then met with a hard iron fist towards his nose. It sent him flying back to his friends as they gathered around his fallen self.

"BOSS!!" The other two yelled as they saw him flying towards them landing hard on the brick pavement. The cat lady was shook at the how things unraveled and marveled at Kayla's strength.

"RUN!!!" Kayla then took the opportunity as she yelled loudly at the lady.

The cat lady immediately grabs her purse and held on it tightly as she makes a run for it. Kayla immediately follows suit, sprinting the opposite direction. The other two hooligans noticed the female cat running away and was about to chase after her before being stopped by their injured leader.

"No! Don't fucking go after her!! Get the other bitch!!" He growls while covering his bleeding nose as the other two starts sprinting after Kayla frantically.

Kayla's ear picks up the noises behind her as they were coming after her. She puts more pep in her steps as she tries to shake them of her tail. After turning around the corner of the pavement, she then notices an alley just in front of her.

She didn't have any other choice as she chose to hide in that alley in an attempt to escape the chase. She immediately dashes towards the alley and hid behind a large dumpster deep in the alley.

She sat silent as she tries to keep an eye out. She took a peek but immediately hid when she saw the two right at the entrance of the alley.

"Which way did she go?" One of them pants at the other as Kayla just kept her ears perked.

"Shit! We lost her!" The other cursed as he looks around. He then notices the alley as he turns to his partner.

"Wanna try the alley? The bitch might be hiding somewhere in there!"

"Please... please.. please..." She prays hoping that they wouldn't find her.

"WAIT!! I think I saw her there!" One of them suddenly yells as she hears them starting to run further from her position. She sat in silence for a while before taking a small peek. She breathes a sigh of relief when she saw that there was no one there.

"Thank god..." She slowly mutters under her breath as she slowly gets up. She then walk towards the exit of the alley before a shadow engulfs her.

"There you are!" The leader suddenly appeared at the exit with a menacing tone. Kayla immediately backs off as she holds her fist up to defend herself.

"I won't fall for that this time!" The leader cackles as he suddenly brings out a pocket knife as he forms a vile grin.

Kayla's eyes bulge at the sight of his sharp weapon as she knew to retreat deeper into the alley. She backed off until her back suddenly bumps into something hard. She turns around only to realise she was trapped with a wall behind her back.

"NONONONONO" She panics as she looks in front to see the wolf grinning even more.

"No where to run now, bitch! You'll pay for what you did to me!" He threatens her as he closes his distance.

Just as things couldn't get any worse, she sees the other two wolves arriving at the alley.

"Took you dumbasses long enough!" The boss growls at his incompetent henchmen.

"We got sidetracked!" One of them makes an excuse but their boss just clicks his tongue.

"You should have never messed with us girl! We'll have our fun after we're finished here!" The three of the cackle in unison as they closes their distance. Kayla just stood frozen with her fists clench.

She was out of options and the only way out was to fight her way out. Unluckily for her, she didn't have her sabre with her. She steels herself as she grips her fists tighter preparing to not go down without a fight before...

"Hey dickwatts!!"

A voice suddenly yells from behind them.

"What now?!!" The boss lets out a tired groan before turning his back to see the owner of the voice. The other two also looked back before all of them raised an eyebrow.

It was a mysterious person with a paper bag on his head. The bag had two holes cut out for the eyes.

"This is so goddamn embarrassing!" Damian points out embarrassed at his display.

"Sorry, it was the only thing I could find but seriously?! You're complaining?!!" Athena lashes at Damian.

"You really don't have anything else? Couldn't keep a spare mask or something with your powers? I'll look like a lunatic to these guys!!" Damian complaints as he looks at Athena.

"YOU ALREADY ARE!!!"

"B-boss... Is it me, or.. is he talking to himself?" One of the henchmen points out to which his boss just leers at him.

"Haa... I'm fucking done with this batshit day!" The boss had enough as he mutters annoyed.

"Hey you!! Now... calm down and listen. You don't want to be part in any of this okay?! Unless you want to get hurt.." The boss suddenly speaks to Damian trying to get his attention as he flashes the knife in his hand.

Damian saw the knife and flinched a little but tries to maintain a brave facade, keeping his composure.

"Yeah, yeah. If anyone's going to get hurt, it's probably you! So, I suggest you walk away and leave the lady before you end up at the hospital!" Damian responded nonchalantly catching the leader off guard as it striked his nerves.

Kayla was still in the back confused at who is this mysterious new person and their intentions.

Suddenly, one of the hooligans puts a hand on his boss's shoulder.

"It's okay boss! I'll take care of em!" He reassures as he makes his way to Damian.

"Hello there! Look, we're just minding our own business here, and if you leave, no one's going to get hurt! After all, there's three of us and only one of you! You wouldn't want to die here right?" He wickedly threatens as the other two just smiles at his words.

"This should scare em!" He triumphantly thought before seeing something glow on his chest. He looks down to see the fist of Damian lit up in a bright red hue as his eyes widen.

Suddenly, a small explosion went off as he was sent flying backwards towards the other two. Both of them evades to their side as they saw him landing hard on the ground. His shirt had a hole in the middle while his torso was scorched with smoke coming out. He was knocked unconscious dwindling their manpower by one.

Both of them look in front to see Damian with his hands glowing red.

"That went well..." Athena responded.

"That... went too well..." Damian thought at the the sheer strength of his power before looking at the faces of the other two wolves. He gained a bit of bravery knowing he's probably stronger than them.

"I told you!" Damian then openly jokes cockily making the other two weary of him.

"Why you?!!" The other henchmen wolf growls at the sight of his fallen comrade as he dashes towards Damian. He then swiftly pulls out a dagger making Damian sweat.

"Wait!" His boss yells at him but the wolf immediately charged at Damian.

"Oh shit!"

"Don't just oh shit, dodge it doofus!" Athena yells at Damian.

Damian then quickly evades to his right just barely avoiding the dagger thrust. The dagger thrusted forward and missed Damian. The wolf growls before suddenly swinging to the side. Damian narrowly evaded the slash by taking a step back. His back soon bumped into the wall behind him as Damian realised he couldn't keep dodging backwards. The wolf grunts again at his failure before holding the blade up high, savagely lunging at Damian. Damian's eyes bulge as he wasn't able to move unable to dodge with his swift movements.

"DUCK!!" Athena screamed at Damian as he still had enough reflex in him to immediately drop down to the floor kneeling after hearing that.

The wolf noticed Damian's movement but it was too late. His knife missed Damian's head by a hair's breadth and lodged itself deep in the brick wall behind them. Damian immediately rolls towards the side to gain more distance from him. The wolf immediately tries to pull his dagger back out but it was buried deep in the brick. He tries to yank it by pulling with his body weight but even that didn't work out.

"Hey!"

The wolf had a horrified look as he was then reminded that Damian was still there. He looks to his side to see the paper bag wearing lunatic directly in front of his face. He was then met with a fiery punch to his stomach making him kneel in pain as coughs of pain could be heard escaping from his mouth. Soon, he was met with another fiery punch to the side of his head sending his head banging on the brick wall besides him as he collapse.

"That was close, thanks Athena!" Damian quickly thanks her before looking in front at the lodged dagger. His hand gripped it tightly as he yanks it out with force breaking the brick it was lodged into as some pieces of brick was seen flying.

"Drop the knife or she dies!" The leader suddenly growls.

Damian then looks forward only to be met with a nasty surprise. The leader held a knife at Kayla's throat as he suppressed her.

"Don't do it, MR!" Kayla yelled at Damian knowing that both of them could end up with the same dark fate if he drops it.

"Let her go!!" Damian warns the wolf but he didn't budge.

Damian hesitated as he knew he couldn't use his powers as it might accidently injure Kayla as well and the knife was the only weapon he had to have a chance against someone with the same degree of weaponry.

"Shit!" Damian curses at his current dilemma.

"Damian don't do it! He'll just kill the both of you! He has something else up his sleeves, I know it!" Athena warns Damian but Damian couldn't risk Kayla's life.

"What about Kayla?" Damian asks Athena but she kept silent.

"You're fucking deaf!!! DROP IT!!"

Damian stood frozen unsure of what to do.

"I said DROP IT!!" He yells louder, holding the knife closer to Kayla slicing her skin a bit as a couple drops of blood starts to leak out from her neck. Kayla just closes her eyes awaiting her fate.

"Okay-okay!!" Damian hurriedly drops the knife choosing to not let Kayla get harmed.

"Kick it away!!" The wolf screams at Damian with a hint of fear. Damian carves a defeated look as he kicks the knife away.

"What do we do now?" Damian asks Athena for some help. Before she could come up with any answer, the wolf sneakily puts on a victorious grin.

He quickly uses his other hand to pull out a handgun immediately aiming at Damian. Damian knew he had no time to dodge the shot.

Kayla immediately sees the danger hwr mysterious saviour was in. With a last ditch effort, she lifts one of her foot up high, holding onto the wolf's hand that was holding the knife tightly before stomping hard on the enemy's foot. The wolf jumped at the sudden surge of pain as he accidentally misfire the gun due to his reflex. Luckily, because of his sudden jolt, the bullet flew and hit the dumpster behind Damian, missing him completely.

Before the wolf could recover, Kayla twists the wolf's hand which was holding the knife as he was forced to drop it before she elbows the wolf's face knocking him back.

The wolf stumbled a bit before falling and landing his back on the wall but he immediately regains the upper hand as he aimed his gun directly towards Kayla. Kayla gasped at the sudden action but luck was on her side.

Suddenly, a fist came rocketing from in front of him, knocking the gun out of his hand before he had the chance to pull the trigger. The gun flew to the wall before breaking as his last chance of surviving diminished. He looks in front to see the 'paper bag' man shadowing over him. Damian pulls his fist hard before launching it towards the wolf's face as it immediately knocks him unconscious.

Damian was seen panting heavily after all the brawl. He stood up, his chest pumping up and down while the excess adrenaline was still flowing in his veins. He looks to the side to see Kayla with the same look he have.

"You're oka-"

"Damian! Behind her!!" Before Damian had the chance to ask Kayla, Damian could see one of the henchmen wolf standing up with a gun at his hand. It was aiming at Kayla and Damian knew he had no time to disarm him. Damian immediately run towards Kayla.

Kayla looks back noticing her saviour's panic reaction as her eyes widen at the sight of the firearm aiming at her.

The trigger was then pulled as flashing light was emitted from the gun. The bullet was sent flying towards her as Kayla could only move her hands to shield herself. She closes her eyes as she accepts her fate.

She could hear the sound of the bullet contacting a surface but she couldn't feel any sort pain. She was confused but her eyes remains closed. Somehow, she could feel something bright that was poking through her closed eyes. A sort of light that somehow inspired some courage inside her to open her eyes. Her eyelids open ever so slowly as more of the light penetrated her eyes. She took a while to adjust to it as she shielded apart of her eyes with her arms.

She then looks in front as she gaped with awe. What she saw was something she only knew from the holy text she read. Something she always wanted to see since she was a child. The saviour that stood in front of her, with his bright wings, majestic and beautiful.

It turns out that her mysterious saviour might be an angel.
