Underleague
Chapter 33
Author Notes: Hey guys sorry for the late post but holiday one shot week can be pretty unforgiving with a schedule...but that's fine, because here I am with an update! I do not own Pokemon and Undertale.
3rd P.O.V
"NOW FRISK-ARE YOU READY!?" A yawn quietly escapes the ten year old before she stands, tall and proud. "I'm ready." Though not as tall and proud as her new coach. "NO YOU'RE NOT! AGAIN WITH PASSION, ARE YOU READY?!" Papyrus circles around the little girl, a frown on his usually joyous face.
Sans and Toriel watch from the kitchen table with their mugs of coffee. "Paps it's way too early for this." Or...more like Toriel was watching with her mug of freshly brewed tea. Sans's head was already comfortably nestled onto the table.
"NONSENSE BROTHER! IT'S NEVER TOO EARLY TO PREPARE FOR ONES DAY. IF ANYTHING YOU SHOULD BE TAKING NOTES AS YOU-HEY DON'T GO BACK TO SLEEP! DON'T BE LAZY!"
Toriel was sporting a soft smile as she took a small sip of her drink, not really minding the noise as she was already wide awake. "I think that's enough for now Papyrus. Frisk needs to eat breakfast if she wants to properly challenge Robin." Frisk gave a small giggle, they had been doing this for the past ten minutes now.
Papyrus gasped, just realizing they were running behind schedule. "OHH YOU'RE QUITE CORRECT! BREAKFAST IS THE MOST IMPORTANT MEAL OF THE DAY. WAIT HERE!" The tall teen dashes to the kitchen, giving poor Frisk some breathing room.
"Hey mom, where Asriel?" She glance around, surprised to find the white haired boy nowhere in sight. "He's in the shower dear. But i'm sure he'll be out before you leave, come have a seat." Her daughter obeys, hopping right up next to her as they wait for Papyrus to return.
Sans opens an eye, seeing the brunette fumble with her sleeves. "You ok kid?" Frisk hesitates a mere moment before nodding to the sleepyhead. "Nervous." There were butterfrees in her stomach as the clock ticked onwards.
She wanted to say she was ready-afterall her and her team had been training so hard. Between battling some wild pokemon, reading Rosemary's book on strategies as well as watching Mr. Peter with his own training sessions. Her team were pretty high in level and all of them were eager to challenge Robin.
But then her mind flashes back to how quickly she lost to MK. And she worries that she'll let everyone down. "Take it easy." A warm hand pets her head, ruffling it till it's a mess, Sans giving her a small grin. He already knew what was worrying her, and knew the best way to turn that frown upside down.
"You'll do fine. I got faith that you'll BLOW the competition away." To emphasize his point and pun he blows into his still steaming mug, making her giggle. Toriel places a hand to her mouth, unable to contain her own laughter.
There was a glint in her eyes as she raised her cup. "I'm sure it'll be a TEA-lightful time~" Screeching could be heard from the kitchen as Papyrus stomps in, a plate of his infamous breakfast spaghetti in hand. "STOP THOSE HORRENDOUS PUNS! LESS YOU JINX FRISK'S VICTORY!"
Sans's grin grows even bigger, and immediately Papyrus narrows his eyes, suspicious. "Frisk you mind passing me a napkin-it's just ad-JYNX-ent to you." Papyrus sighs, already fed up.
"THAT WAS TERRIBLE-EVEN WORSE THEN USUAL!" The ten year old shrugs, not really understanding the joke. Still she passes the napkins. "Sans what did you do when you did the Underleague Challenge? Were you ever nervous?" Sweat started to appear on the young man.
He was Not expecting her to ask him of all people for advice on the challenge. Though he supposed it made sense. Everyone she's met and interacted so far with had something to do with Underleague, still this left him in a bind. "Uh...funny thing kiddo, I never did the challenge."
It was a surprise, as she thought everyone participated. Toriel took a sip giving her friend a knowing look. Once more Sans was under pressure, he had to play his words right as he's already let a couple things slip.
"Yeah, I like battling and all that but I was too lazy for the challenge. If anyone could give you advice, i'm sure Paps can, he's doing gym challenge number three after all." It was the perfect cover, as his brother played right into his plans.
The tall teen lifted Frisk into the air. "THAT IS TRUE! THE GREAT PAPYRUS CAN GIVE YOU LOTS OF ADVICE-IT WAS WHY WE DID OUR CONFIDENT BREATHING EXORCISES FIRST THING THIS MORNING!" It was something he did everyday.
Though Papyrus builds himself up a wall of strength and confidence, right now with his struggles of figuring out the third gym's riddle and knowing who he was going to face left him feeling not so great. It was one of the reasons why he was taking a small break and helping Frisk.
He was still training hard, as he wanted to face his friend Undyne and show her how much he's improved and continue onwards, but...it was tough, even for him. But seeing Frisk facing her own problems head on reinvigorated him to push forward as well.
"I HAVE NO DOUBTS THAT YOU WILL DO GREAT FRISK. JUST DO WHAT I DO, BELIEVE IN ME WHO BELIEVES IN YOU!" His advice was a bit confusing to the ten year old, but she understood what Papyrus was trying to say, and she appreciated it.
Gently he placed her back down into her chair as they all continued eating. Frisk taking huge helpings of breakfast spaghetti no matter how indescribable it may've been. Though much to her surprise it tasted better then usual.
The glint in her mother's eye was proof that she had something to do with, though neither brought it up. The house rumbled as a door upstairs slammed. "Am I late!? Did I miss her?" Asriel all but leaped down the stairs panting and gasping.
"Calm down dear, Frisk is still eating breakfast." Asriel sighed in relief as he now walked into the dining room. Getting a few startled looks from the group. His family specifically. "Asriel honey what happened!?"
The poor guy was covered in all sorts of bandages and even his hair was a little uneven, making it look even more shaggy then usual. "Um aha...well you see..." He ruffled his still wet locks, a sheepish smile forming.
He really didn't want to get into it, but his mother's intimidating gaze made him confess. "When you and Sans went out and Robin went hunting for Frisk, Flowey and Poochyena ended up fighting and things got out of control. But I'm fine! The band-aids just make it look worse than what it is-really!"
No one was really believing him, as he truly did look like he got attacked by a stampede of taurus. Toriel narrows her eyes, the intense gaze landing on the pokeball hiding the demonic flower.
"You really should give that sunflora back to Chara, he's too wild and dangerous to train." She's never really liked Flowey, even though she understood her children's desires to help pokemon, it was clear that he had no care for his trainer and she worried one day he would truly hurt her son.
For the most part she tried to stay out of Asriel and Chara's decisions as she raised them to have good common sense and strong morals, they were mature and wise far beyond most their generation. Both of them even had jobs that both were utterly passionate about. She was so proud of them.
Still the sunflora was giving her a bad feeling, and his attitude really got on her nerves. "It's fine mom, besides I got off easy. Flowey ended up with one too many bite and scratch attacks from poochyena."
It was one of the reasons why the sunflora wasn't out torturing his trainer and the rest of the group. His injuries and hurt pride left him lacking the energy and motivation to spew insults.
Bringing some relief as Frisk wasn't sure if she could handle Flowey right now. "So why'd you need the kid?" Sans opened up one eye, watching with a grin as Asriel remembers why he rushed downstairs in the first place.
"That's right! Frisk, I figured since you were going to head off to Robins I'd give you a little gift." Reaching out from behind his back comes a cute little, black berate. Gently Asriel placed it onto her head, fitting snugly.
It was just right. Frisk touches her latest accessory, giving her brother a small thank you, truly appreciating it. Toriel claps her hand, beaming at her two children. "Oh you look wonderful Frisk! Asriel where in all the underground where did you find that?"
Frisk did a series of little poses, receiving applause from her audience consisting of Sans, Papyrus and poochyena. "Got it from Ms. Rosemary. Apparently her daughter wore it when she first underwent the challenge, and was about to donate it but it caught my attention and she was more than happy to let Frisk have it."
Asriel had originally planned to give his sister one of his old badges as a good luck charm or a tm to give her a hand, but none of the various ideas he had seemed to come up with worked. There was this nagging debate in his mind as he carefully went through gifts.
Thank goodness Rosemary was there, listening to his babbling. "She wishes you the best of luck Frisk!" A small blush formed on her cheek. "Ugh this is so stupid and sappy. Get the hell out of here and win already!" Asriel jumped as Flowey crossed his leaves.
Scowling. It was so sweet and infectiously cute that if he had any teeth they would've melted away. He was downright disgusted with the affections that he just had to leave his pokeball.
Though he found himself flinching and regretting that idea as Toriel threw a harsh glare of her own his way. He wasn't a coward, but the woman had a way with intimidating even the most dangerous of people and pokemon.
Plus he knew there was more to the kind, compassionate mom then meets the eye. In all honesty the sunflora questioned how she was gym leader number one with how powerful she was.
Still he didn't have much time to ponder as he fled, running right back into his pokeball. Frisk found a small smile on her face despite the ruined moment. Even if Flowey didn't like her or really any of them, he had confidence in her.
Talking as if the battle was already decided. Sighing he grabbed her bag, slinging it on her shoulder. "I'm ready." Giving hugs and kisses, Frisk gives everyone her goodbyes before leaping out the door. Her destination was the forest once more, where she would battle Robin.
She was determined to come back with badge number two. "This is it Eve!" Her companion snuggled into her neck, feeling just as eager to take on Robin. The time for stalling was over.
