SUMMARY:
Anakin has never felt understood by Obi-Wan and it comes out, quite clearly in a fight.
Obi-Wan has always thought that Anakin understood the Jedi way. His Padawan's actions horrify him.

"Mast- Obi-Wan, I would kill a thousand Tusken Raiders for you."
"Which holonovels have you been reading lately Anakin?".
Anakin gives Obi-Wan the most betrayed look he can muster, "Pad- my friend found it romantic.".
"Romantic.", Obi-Wan snorts, "More like intimidating.".
"So you wouldn't do it for me.", Anakin states cooly, a hint of insecurity creeping into his tone.
Obi-Wan frowns, knowing that this could end badly if he isn't careful.
"No, I wouldn't.", he says levelly and Anakin, his Padawan, his brother turned son turned brother flinches away from him. It hurts to hurt him like this but it would be worse to lie and he hopes that Anakin will forgive him for this admission.
"I should have known.", Anakin says, "I would do it for you, for Padmé, for my mother.".
His voice breaks on the last word and Obi-Wan's chest hurts in sympathy. There's something about what Anakin says that niggles at his brain though, something that was planted when he started talking and has only just begun to sprout.
"Padmé?", he asks instead but Anakin is on a roll now.
"I should have guessed that the perfect Jedi only sees me as an attachment and nothing more-".
"Anakin, you didn't?", there's a sinking feeling in Obi-Wan's chest. He doesn't know what to do. To tell the Council would be to prove Anakin right but Obi-Wan has a duty, has sworn to serve. First, he must ascertain the extent of this, no matter how much it breaks him inside.
"Only the Chancellor and Padmé understand. My mother understood too and I thought you did but you're too busy being the perfect Jedi!".
"Anakin,", he asks, voice trembling, "did you marry her? Did you marry Padmé?".
And his Padawan, the little boy who he let into his heart sneers.
"Jealous are we?", he asks, "Of course I did, that's what you do when you love someone.".
"With the customs of Naboo? When?", he holds out some hope that his Padawan actually listened to him when he told him about the vows, that he understood the meaning of duty, that Anakin listened to the lessons that Obi-Wan tried to impart upon him.
Anakin answers and he's talking and talking but Obi-Wan cannot hear a thing because his underage Padawan, married a Senator using Nabooian customs within six months of swearing the Knighthood oaths. He cannot bring himself to listen, even as Anakin storms out of his quarters.
He loves his Padawan, former or not, but he has a duty.
