Chapter 25

Dean stopped as he came through the back door and heard the faint sound of laughter coming from the living room. He closed his eyes as he took a deep breath and counted to ten. Tammi was here with Jo and the two were laughing about something together.

It freaked Dean out that his wife was becoming chummy-chummy with the witch that he had thought him and his brother had killed. He also hated to admit it but she was proving valuable and they had actually narrowed their search down to Lawrence, Kansas.

Of course it didn't shock any of them that the town Dean and Sam were born in would be where one of the unholy trinity would be broken. Now that they had a where they were monitoring the town since they were in the home stretch and only had two months until October 31st and their one shot to stop the only seal of the unholy trinity that they could brake.

He walked into the living room where his wife and Tammi were looking at a map of Lawrence. He watched as Tammi held a silver chain with a crystal attached to it over the map as his wife took a few steps back as Tammi began to chant and the crystal began to sway back and forth. His eyes widened slightly when the chain went stiff as a board and the crystal was pulled down forcefully to a spot on the map.

"High school, of course." Jo said as she stepped back up to the table.

"And what exactly are we doing here?" Dean asked.

Jo looked up and grinned at her husband, "Tammi did a location spell tied to magical energy to narrow down where the two witches are casting their spells. Surprise...surprise it's the high school."

Dean snorted in understanding, a high school was the perfect location for a witch or witches who needed unbridled energy. A high school with hundreds of teenagers that are all oozing tons of energy thanks to their raging hormones not to mention easy picking for sacrifices.

He frowned slightly when he saw Jo winced as her hand went to her lower back, "Jo?"

"Maggie's been really active," she told him as she waved her hand dismissively before grabbing her laptop and sitting down. He watched as she began typing away.

Tammi looked at the elder Winchester, "maybe you can talk some sense into her. I've told her twice she should rest. I'm sure your mother in law will agree when she gets here that Jo's dropped over the past week and could go into labor any day now."

Dean looked over at Jo before turning back towards Tammi. "I thought I said I didn't want you here with my wife when she's alone."

"Please you underestimate her. Ask her what's in her sweater pocket," Tammi said as she picked up her own laptop and began scrolling through some site.

"Jo, what's she yapping about?" He asked.

"Huh?" Jo looked up slightly confused before realizing what Dean was asking about. "Oh, I found a protection spell in one of Bobby's books. Luckily we had all but two ingredients which I had Bobby pick up this morning. Enchanted my anti-possession charms and made everyone a necklace. Here you go," she explained as she reached into her pocket and pulled one out, tossing it to him.

Bobby came in and Dean's eyes fell onto his new jewelry. "Will that really work?" He asked his surrogate father, nodding towards the necklace around Bobby's neck.

"Yeah, Caleb had used it a while back and said it got the job done, especially after he found a hex bag in his car. This should help protect us from any tricks she may have hidden up her sleeve." The older hunter explained.

Dean nodded his head slightly as he slipped the piece of jewelry on. He looked at Jo and sighed, "I hate to say it but I think Tammi's right. Maybe you should lay down before dinner. Your Mom will be here soon and she'll have my hide if she doesn't think you're getting enough rest."

Jo chewed on her lower lip; she was tired. Looking down at her laptop she knew that Tammi was more than capable to finish researching the activities surrounding the high school. That and Sam was on his way back from his 'secret meeting' with Ruby and she wanted to see him and her mom when they got there. "Maybe a nap would be good," she said as she closed her laptop and stood up.

"Jo why don't you lay down on my bed instead of climbing upstairs," Bobby suggested at the way Jo's hand went to her lower back and winced in obvious pain.

Jo blew out her breath and nodded her head, "thanks Bobby, I think I'll take you up on that offer."

Dean held his hand out as he walked her into Bobby's room. "So what were you two laughing about before I came in?"

"Huh?" Jo said in confusion before realizing what Dean was talking about and began to chuckle, "oh nothing. She just threw out a Monty Python's quote while she was getting things set up is all."

"Monty Python, never would have pegged her a fan of Python."

Jo studied her husband, "hey I know you don't like her or trust her but she's been useful so far."

"Yeah I know," he agreed as Jo sat down on Bobby's daybed and winced. "Jo, are you really okay?"

"I'm alright but I have a feeling when we go to the doctor's tomorrow that she's gonna tell us that I should be taking it easy because I know Tammi's right. Maggie definitely has turned."

Dean couldn't help smiling as he thought about finally meeting their daughter. "Then we listen to what the doc has to say."

"But we're in the home stretch," Jo argued.

Dean sat down next to his wife and placed his hand over her swollen belly and said, "and you're in the home stretch too."

Jo snorted in amusement as Dean leaned down and cooed at her bump, "huh Maggie…you're excited to meet Mommy and Daddy aren't you."

He looked up and grinned when Maggie decided to agree with her father and kicked where his hand rest.

Jo rolled her eyes and chuckled, "not even born yet and she's a Daddy's girl."

"Damn straight," Dean said as he leaned forward and kissed Jo.

Dean got up and knelt next to Jo and helped her take off the sneakers that he had helped her put on earlier. Straightening up he urged Jo to scoot over before sitting down next to her, toeing off his boots and laying down beside his wife.

"What are you doing?" Jo asked.

"I thought we could take a nap together," he said as he turned on his side facing her and rested his hand on her swollen belly.

Jo smiled as she placed her hand over his, "a nap together sounds perfect." She told him as she closed her eyes and felt at peace with Dean by her side.

Ellen smiled as she looked at her daughter when she walked into the kitchen. "I've only been gone a week and look at you. Tammi's right you have dropped. Don't be surprised if the doctor tells you tomorrow that he wants you to start taking it easy."

"Nice to see you too Mom," Jo teased as she gave her mom a hug.

"Don't worry Ellen, we already talked about this and if the doctor says Jo needs to sit back and rest then she's gonna do just that," he swore as he kissed his mother-in-law's cheek.

"Good," Ellen agreed as they joined Bobby and Tammi at the kitchen table. "So how's the research going?"

"We've narrowed it down to Lawrence, Kansas and the magic seems to be concentrated from the high school," Tammi announced as she sipped her tea.

"Big shock these witches are working out of a high school," Rufus quipped as he dropped his and Ellen's bags by the door. "Anyone hear from Sam?"

"Yeah, his meeting with Ruby went as expected. He'll be here soon with his demon blood care package," Dean told them as he looked down at his text messages.

Bobby looked at the man across from him, his surrogate son and reached over, placing his hand on his arm. "Last time…that was his last meeting with that bitch Dean. This is ending sooner than they realize."

Dean looked over at Jo who nodded her head in agreement before turning his attention to Tammi and saying, "then we need to figure out who the two witches are at Lawrence High so that we can end this before it goes any further."

Tammi shot a look at the pregnant woman next to her. She knew he meant that this was going to be done before their child was born and she didn't blame him or the others for wanting this battle over before it started because of the child that would be coming into this world soon.

"I think I may have an idea that we can use," the witch said to the expecting parents. "but I think we should wait until Sam is here though. We can go over it all together."

"So what are you saying that you can create some kind of LoJack for magic?" Sam asked as he took a piece of pizza.

The younger Winchester had made it back an hour earlier and after filling the others in about his meeting with Ruby. He had successfully convinced her that him and Dean were taking a knee until the baby was born and that Sam was pissed at being benched but that he was going along with it so that Dean thought he was in charge.

Now they were sitting in the living room with several boxes of pizza discussing their next move. "Exactly, I can set up a trap so that when these witches cast a spell that it will leave a marker...like a beacon that we can work are way back to." Tammi explained.

"Right but how do we know we would be following the right magic?" Dean asked as he gently kneaded Jo's lower back.

Tammi shrugged her shoulders, "because it takes two powerful witches to raise Samhain and only two: a male and a female. They would never allow another coven to pollute their territory."

"How powerful are we talking about here?" Ellen asked.

Tammi took a shallow breath and let it out slowly before explaining, "they would have to had been followers of Samhain before he was exorcised. They were chosen by him to raise him when the time came. They have been planning this for 600 years as his chosen followers."

"Wait, I thought the plan was to take them out…they sound immortal to me," Rufus said as he looked at the other hunters faces and saw the same concern.

Tammi sighed as she nodded her head and continued, "it is…and it will be the male that we need to take out. They aren't immortal but they would have resurrection seals like I have."

"So you're saying we can't kill them? What the Hell are we even bothering with this then," Dean snapped as a fear of dread settled in his gut.

Jo shared a look with Tammi who nodded her head. They had discussed this plan and knew that the others would be leery.

Jo cleared her throat as she said, "kill them no…probably not…but we can do enough damage to them that we drain their powers long enough that they can't do the blood rituals to raise Samhain."

Sam nodded his head in understanding, "they only have that small window to perform the rituals so if we hit them hard enough we can stop them from performing the rituals."

"Can't always swing for the fences. Small ball can win a game too," Bobby reasoned.

Dean looked at the others in disbelief as they all nodded their heads in agreement. "Am I the only one concerned about when these two get powered up again that we'll have two pissed off extremely powerful witches on our asses?" He said as he stood up and glared at Tammi and accused, "you know how to kill them…you're not telling us for a reason."

Tammi ducked her head slightly causing the others to frown and Jo cocked her head slightly, "Tammi?"

"They're not unkillable," she admitted.

Jo stared at the other woman, "you said slowing them down was our only option."

Tammi shook her head, "no I said it was our best option."

"Well I say we take a look behind door number two Monty," Rufus growled as he stood up next to Dean.

Jo study the other woman and nodded her head as she realized why she was holding back, "I swear...we won't use it against you...whatever it is."

"JO!" Dean shouted.

Sam and Ellen both jumped up and stood behind Jo as Bobby got up and stood besides Rufus and Dean. "Dean...calm down," Sam told his brother.

"Calm down? Your brother has a right to be upset. This isn't a long term arrangement here." Bobby argued.

"But we need her to end this once and for all," Ellen said as she placed a hand on her daughter's shoulder.

Dean took a deep breath, "Jo...look at what's she's doing. Causing a rift between all of us. Just like Ruby."

Jo closed her eyes as she took a few deep breaths. She knew Dean, Bobby and Rufus had a point but she saw it in Tammi's eyes just now. Fear...fear that she would have nothing left to defend herself with. Slowly she let out the breath she held as she opened her eyes to gaze into her husband's eyes and asked, "can we talk...just us...please?"

Dean's features softened as he saw the way Jo was watching him and nodded his head. Reaching out he took Jo's hand in his and they may their way outside.

"Can we walk a little?" Jo asked as she nodded towards the driveway. It was one of the few areas that was clear of any debris in the yard.

"Sure," Dean said softly as he led the way down the stairs and they slowly began walking.

"She's terrified Dean...I saw it in her eyes." Jo told him.

"She should be."

"She's been helpful...more than helpful. We're not using whatever she knows against her."

Dean stopped walking and gaped at his wife, "I'm sorry...what? Jo this was temporary. Hell she was the one who said as soon as this is over we go back to normal."

"And I'm sure when this started she thought we could kill them and just move on. Then we started working together and at first we assumed if we cremated them that would be it...the end of them and any resurrection seals they may have sewn in the bodies but the more we researched we realized that their powers were beyond anything we imagine...even Tammi was taken aback by their powers."

"Even all the more reason she needs to tells us how we can kill them," he argued.

Jo sighed, "Dean we can't expect her to put all her cards on the table for nothing in return. We don't use what she teaches us against her. This ends we go our separate ways. She doesn't hold up her end of the bargain as far as being a good little witch then we do our job like normal but if she really is looking for a chance to just move on and live her life. Then we let her."

Dean stopped at the end of the driveway and looked down at his wife and agreed, "if she stays off our radar when this ends then I can live with this."

Jo grinned up at her husband as she flung her arms around his neck and pulled him down for a kiss. "Thank you," she whispered.

Dean returned her smile as he kissed her again, "yeah I know…I'm awesome. Come on, let's do this."

The young couple made their way back to their home and joined the others. Dean looked at Tammi and nodded his head, "we won't use what you teach us against you. You have my word on that."

Tammi pulled her lower lip between her teeth as she looked at Jo. The younger woman gave her a reassuring smile. Tammi nodded her head before turning her attention to the rest of the hunters and explained, "there's a ritual that has to be done over their bodies immediately after you 'kill' them so that their resurrection seals are useless to them."

Dean narrowed his eyes at the witch before saying, "I guess you just got a promotion. No more research only…you're now on the team going to Lawrence."
