Chapter 12: The Battle for Berk
Anna's POV
Once the word spread, we were going to take Berk, everyone started prepping the ships. Dragon Riders were preparing their dragons. I smiled at the other dragon riders as I walked over to Trace. He looked at me with confused eyes.
"I know, boy. It's confusing. But it's what we need to do."
I started to adjust Trace's saddle when a sharp pain came to my head. My vision darkened. Then my vision opened to see a forest, covered with fog. And four pillars with strange symbols. Just then, the vision ended, and I looked around wildly.
"Your majesty?"
I looked up to see a soldier looking down at me.
"I'm fine."
He looked at me with doubt. "Should I go retrieve the Queen?"
"No, that won't be necessary," I said as I got up from the floor, which I had fallen onto when I slipped into the vison.
"What was that place?" I whispered to myself as I hid behind Trace.
…
Elsa's POV
"We need to make sure this area is cut off from enemy forces," I said as I pointed at the map.
"I agree. That will be a good command point." Hiccup replied.
Ah ah ah oh.
"What was that?" I asked him.
"What was what?"
I looked outside. "Did you hear that?"
"Hear what?"
I looked outside, confused. I swear I heard a voice, but I must have imagined it.
"Never mind."
Just then, a soldier walked up.
"Your majesty. I came to inform you that princess Anna collapsed in the stables."
"What happened?" I asked, concerned.
"She just collapsed then got right up."
I nodded. "Thank you for telling me. Keep this between us. Dismissed."
"Your majesty."
Hiccup walked over as the soldier walked away.
"Probably another vision." He said.
"I hope it's not serious."
"She'll be fine. Come on, we need to finish before dark." He said as he walked back to the table.
Hesitantly, I walked back to the war table.
…
General POV
The whole island bustled with activity. Everyone had a task to complete for the main goal. Set course for Berk.
Anna stayed in the stables with the dragons, along with the dragon riders. Rapunzel came in later and started to prepare Surge.
Jack and Merida helped load any necessary gear into the ships.
The later in the day it got, the closer the battle became. Soon, everything was ready.
The people looked up at the Six on the rafters, hoping for words of encouragement.
"That's you, Hiccup," Jack said.
"Why me?"
"It's your home, so you get to give the speech," Rapunzel said.
Hiccup nodded and looked out to the people.
"Tomorrow, we will come to the shores of Berk, and begin to free the people of the Kingdoms from the tyranny of Zika and her followers. We will free all the people. We do regret leaving the Kingdoms as we did, but today, the fight to save the Kingdoms starts now!"
The people cheered. Commander Cassandra looked at them. "Alright, men let's move out. We got an island to invade. Let's go."
All the soldiers got into the ships, and Heather's agents mounted their dragons. Everyone set out for Berk.
…
Thirty-four hours later the Kingsman Resistance sailed up to the border waters of Berk. The sun was peaking down towards the ocean, sinking fast.
"Wait for the sun to set." Hiccup told Heather and Cassandra. "That way we could take them by surprise with the main assault."
Heather nodded and walked over to her agents. Cassandra nodded and went to her lieutenants. Jack walked up to Hiccup.
"We ready for this?"
"No, are you? A lot of people could get killed."
"The men know the risks. We got this."
Hiccup nodded. He looked over as the sun went down.
As the sun began to set, Heather started to sing
Are you, are you?
Coming to the tree
They strung up a man
They say who murdered three
Strange things did happen here
No stranger would it be
If we met at midnight
In the hanging tree
Are you, are you
Coming to the tree
Where the dead man called out
For his love to flee
Strange things did happen here
No stranger would it be
If we met at midnight
In the hanging tree
Are you, are you
Coming to the tree
Where told you to run
So we'd both be free
Strange things did happen here
No stranger would it be
If we met at midnight
In the hanging tree
Are you, are you
Coming to the tree
Where necklace of hope
Side by side with me
Strange things did happen here
No stranger would it be
If we met at midnight
In the hanging tree
Are you, are you
Coming to the tree
Where told you to run
So we'd both be free
Strange things did happen here
No stranger would it be
If we met at midnight
In the hanging tree
Just then, her agents joined in. Then the soldiers. Soon everyone was singing along
Are you, are you
Coming to the tree
They strung up a man
They say who murdered three
Strange things did happen here
No stranger would it be
If we met at midnight
In the hanging tree
Like the sunset, everyone on dragons took off and the battle was on.
…
General POV
The night was chilly as the people of Berk settled in for the night. The town guards herded everyone to their houses. Ever since the Big Six returned, a mandatory curfew was put into place.
A mother and her child were walking back to their house when a group of guards stopped them.
"What do you think you're doing, miss?" One of the guards asked.
"We're just running out of time. My son and I were getting the last of our harvest to the market. I'm sorry, we're heading home." She grabbed her son's hand and tried to hurry past.
"I don't think so." The guard said as he motioned his fellow guard to grab the boy. "You know the punishment. We take something of yours. And your boy will be an excellent soldier."
"NO! Please, don't take my son!" The mother said as she grabbed at his breastplate.
The guard went to slap the mother, but an explosion went off in the distance. The guards' eyes went wide, that was the prized docks.
"Sound the alarm! The Docks are under attack!"
All the other guards took off towards the docks. The one who was holding the boy started dragging him back to the barracks.
"No, no, no, please." the mother begged as she grabbed at the guard. He let go of the boy and kicked the mother away.
"Momma!" the boy shouted.
The now impatient guard drew his sword and began walking to the mother. She scrambled back as he brought up the sword.
Just then two arrows appeared right in his chest. He looked down at them and dropped to his knees. He looked up to see two women. One had blonde hair and was covered in ice-like armor and the other was a redhead with thick leather armor. The red-haired girl brought her bow down. The blonde walked up to him, an ice sword appearing in her hand. The guard could only watch in fear as the sword stabbed him through and he fell.
Elsa removed the sword. She looked around for any other guards. She then signaled Merida. Merida started running towards the control point, with the rest of the army right behind her.
Elsa looked at the mother, who was holding her son. "It's not safe in Berk tonight. Go home, grab some belongings, and get to the docks. There are ships there to help you get to safety."
"What about the others?"
"Get as many as you can out," Elsa said as she ran to catch up to Merida.
Up above the city, Hiccup, Anna, Jack, Rapunzel, and the Berk Dragon riders flew above the town. Hiccup looked down to see the main army moving slowly through town.
Elsa and Merida ran quietly through the streets, followed by the Resistance soldiers. They turned the corner to see four guards standing there. Before anyone could do anything, one of the guards blew a horn. It rang through the town.
The battle had begun.
The Dragon riders started diving down to the catapults and smashing them. Soldiers from Zika's army erupted from the barracks and come down on the Resistance army.
"For the Kingdoms!" Merida shouted and the armies collided. Sword against the shield. the fight raging.
Anna flew over the town, looking for anyone to attack. But she saw some women and children running from some enemy soldiers.
"Trace, go!"
The dragon shrieked and dove, landing in between the soldiers and the civilians. He blew his fire at them, causing them to dive for cover.
Anna looked at the civilians. "Get to the Docks!"
She got off Trace and drew her own two swords. The soldiers got up and came at her.
Anna slashed and stabbed her way through them, leaving their bodies lying in the street.
"Let's go." She said as she got back on Trace and took off.
…
Merida and Elsa were fighting side by side as the battle progressed. the Resistance Soldiers were fighting hard for the new leaders. Then a fog appeared.
"What is this?" Merida asked.
"I don't know."
Just then, a big shadow appeared. Soldiers were disappearing.
"We're dealing with a monster."
Elsa took a deep breath and stepped forward.
"I got this."
Elsa took notice of her surroundings. Her senses were heightened. She heard the woosh of the beast. She waited for the perfect moment.
She stomped her foot down and ice cascaded across the ground. The shadow stopped.
Merida and Elsa ran forward to see a giant raccoon. It hissed and snarled as it fought against the restraints of the ice. Soon it shrunk down to normal size.
"What the."
Just then, a man in a dark cloak and a green lensed mask landed in front of them and smashed a bottle in front of them. A cloud of smoke and he was gone.
...
Rapunzel and Surge were raining down fire on the enemy when she saw a bolt of jagged ice appear. She looked to see the woman in black using Jake's staff to unleash havoc on the Resistance soldiers. She steered Surge in her direction. When she was right over her, she tied her hair to the saddle and jumped. Surge shrieked in surprise, but he continued to fly straight.
Rapunzel grabbed the staff right out of Narissa's hand. Surprised, Narissa summoned magic and grabbed at her. The spell grabbed at Rapunzel's ankle.
"Where is Jake!?" Rapunzel shouted.
"In the brig, where he will die. And so will you." Narissa said as she prepared another spell.
Rapunzel summoned a sun blade and threw it at the magic holding her. The spell vanished. Rapunzel shot up into the sky and landed back on Surge. She flew over to the brig and looked for something to indicate where Jake was. Sure enough, ice was gathered on the bars of one cell.
"Surge!"
Surge let out a fire blast at the cell, blowing the cell roof blow clean off. She looked inside to see Jake looking up at her. She threw down her hair. He quickly climbed up it. When he got on the dragon, he grabbed her and kissed her.
"I knew you'd come for me."
"Of course, I did." She said as she handed him his staff.
"Thanks. Where is Hiccup?" Jake asked.
"I don't..."
She looked down to see Hiccup and Lady Deathstrike in the town square, facing down on each other.
…
Hiccup sped through the island blasting through the defenses. Toothless was climbed high for a dive when another dragon came down on him.
Toothless blasted at it. It gave out a painful roar as the two dragons fell. Toothless pushed off the dragon and landed softly. The other dragon landed hard.
Lady Deathstrike jumped off the dragon and used a whip to grab Hiccup. He tried to fight it but fell off Toothless.
She started circling him as he got up. He grabbed his sword and shield.
"You will die tonight." Lady Deathstrike said as she pointed one of her hooks at him.
"Come at me!" Hiccup said as he pointed his sword at her.
She growled at him and ran at him. She brought her bladed hooks at him. He brought up his shield and blocked the blow. She then swept his legs out from under him. She turned the blades on the bottom of the hilt down on him. The blade sank deep into his shoulder. Hiccup growled in pain and swung his sword at her leg. The fire from Inferno hit the metal frame and dented it badly. Deathstrike went to get up but couldn't.
Hiccup got up and swung at her other leg. The same thing happened. Now Deathstrike was immobilized.
"You won't win! Zika will destroy you." Deathstrike said.
As Hiccup went to take her helmet off. Her dragon struck him with its tail, sending him into the side of a building. It hissed at him, grabbed Deathstrike, and flew off.
Rapunzel and Jake landed Surge and ran over.
"Hiccup are you alright?" Rapunzel asked, holding her hair.
"I'll live." Hiccup said as he stretched out.
"Hiccup!" Jake said as he ran up.
"Jake, what is it?"
"They have a device of some sort that will destroy the island!"
Hiccup looked around. He started to notice the enemy started to run.
"Take me to it."
…
Hiccup looked at the device curiously. He saw no way to disarm it.
"What do we do?" Hiccup asked.
Jake looked around, then brought his staff up and brought it down hard on the ground. Ice raced out and surrounded the orb.
"Go! Get everyone off the island. I can hold it off for a while."
"What, no!" Rapunzel said. "There has to be another way."
"If we leave it. the townspeople and your army won't get off the island in time. But I can hold the blast long enough for you guys to get off."
Hiccup ran out and told the soldiers to retreat off the island and to take as many villagers as they can.
Rapunzel looked desperately at Jake.
"Jake, you have a second chance at life. Don't waste it."
"Rapunzel. I was already dead. I'm not supposed to be here. Just let me go. You did once. You can do it again."
Tears filled her eyes. She grabbed him and kissed him.
Right as she did. Eugene ran inside.
"Sunshine, we got to..."
He stopped as he saw Rapunzel and Jake kissing.
She stopped kissing him and touched his face. "Goodbye again."
"Goodbye."
She walked away. She looked up to see Eugene standing there.
"We got to go."
He just simply nodded and walked away.
Surge landed by the door and Rapunzel climbed on.
The whole island ran for the dock and filled up the ships and more.
On a ship on the farther side of the island, Grimmel stood waiting on a ship. Lady Deathstrike was being carried by a Deathgripper and Varian was riding him. Narissa teleported onto the ship.
"We lost," Grimmel said quietly.
"Yes."
"Set it off."
Narissa nodded. She raised her hands and cast the spell.
Jake watched as the orb activated. He slammed the staff again to reinforce the ice around it. The ice started to crack, and the explosions started to build. He looked behind him. He saw the ships in the distance. Just then, a blue arc split the sky. Jake nodded.
"Forgive me."
He brought up the staff and stood waiting. The explosion shot sky-high. The whole island of Berk was engulfed. The people and the Resistance watched in despair as Berk, their home, was destroyed.
The Battle was lost
