Chapter 15: The Great Freeze Returns
General POV
The ride was long and a little bumpy, but eventually, The carriage carrying Elsa and Macintosh landed on the shore of the Fjord of Arendelle. As they landed, Macintosh's guards got out and made a perimeter.
Elsa got out and looked into the distance at her lost home. The town had gotten bigger and there were better defenses up. A giant wall surrounded the city. But as she looked at the castle, the blue roof and snowflake on the spire were still there. I guess Zika wasn't able to get rid of that.
"Now, your majesty. Let's do this." Macintosh said as he motioned to the water.
Elsa looked down hesitantly. This is where she cross all those years ago and ran up the North Mountain. The biggest mistake of her life.
"I…I… I've changed my mind."
"Excuse me?"
"Take me back, I can't do this."
Macintosh rolled his eyes. "So you're just going to abandon your people?"
"This will hurt them more than it will save them."
"No, it won't!" He yelled. The guard slowly started to surround Elsa. She looked around confused.
"Elsa, you need to stop being so afraid of those powers of yours. They are the key to winning this war. Use them!"
I realize that you've always been an outcast
I don't believe that there is anyone as powerful as you
To find someone that's like you
I've met one or maybe two
But then they disappear before I blink
Now I understand you have your reservations
It's hard to have powers as large as yours
But if we don't win this War
If we don't go this far
What will happen if we fail the Resistance
Macintosh's guards started circling Elsa, chanting to her, convincing her, manipulating her.
Unleash the magic
Unleash the magic
If we lose, then you're to blame
They all have used it
Maybe abused it
So then why can't we do the same?
Call it power, call it magic
If we lose, it will be tragic
More important is the kingdom we have lost
A chance like this won't come again
You'll regret not giving in
Isn't winning this war worth the cost?
Unleash the magic
Unleash the magic
We're not friends here after all
Our only interest
In this business
Is seeing Queen Zika fall
Macintosh walked up to Elsa from behind and grabbed her shoulders. He started leading her to the water.
What I'm suggesting's very simple
And since it's a win-win on all fronts
Let everyone learn about the
Magic that you have inside
And as for me and all the others
I only want what I deserve
That our team will clinch this win
And our legacy will endure
Unleash the magic
Unleash the magic
If we lose, then it's a crime
But we can win it
If you begin it
It's up to you to not fail this time
Unleash the magic, free the magic now
Unleash the magic, free the magic now
Elsa walked cautiously up to the water. She felt like she didn't have a choice. The decision wasn't hers anymore.
Imagine all I'll do by setting it free
Now winning this war depends on me
And the doors might open if I try to use it
And victory is really what I want to see
As Elsa got even closer, someone came out of the trees. A woman in a dark cloak walked toward Elsa as she reached for the water.
Unleash the magic, free the magic
Now!
As Elsa touched the water, nothing happened. But then from behind, the woman grabbed her head with both hands and magic entered Elsa's mind. All at once, the life Elsa had now had slowly disappeared from her mind. The memories of The Big Six and the adventures they had together slipped into the darkest part of her mind. When her vision cleared, All she saw was the fjord shore as she heard someone call her name.
"Elsa stop!"
She looked behind her to see Anna chasing her, but she slipped. Knowing the people had seen her use her powers. She had to run away. She turned back and ran as fast as she could go. She had to find a safe place to hide…
…
Macintosh and his guards watched as the ice-covered the fjord once again and Elsa ran off into the distance. The woman took off her cloak, to reveal herself as Narissa.
"Well done, Macintosh. Let's see the Resistance succeed with the Great Freeze returning."
"Yes. It was hard to get her here, but I'm nothing but persuasive."
Narissa smiled flirtatiously at him. "Well, I know all about that silver tongue of yours, Cole."
He smiled back. "So, onto the next phase of the plan?"
"Yes. Keep the Resistance off the scent of Elsa. Let them try to convince the people to join them. Then when they're almost here, we kill Elsa before they can even get past the first wall."
Macintosh chuckled and grabbed Narissa and kissed her passionately.
"Then soon, We'll rule Dunbrock together." He whispered as he broke the kiss.
"Yes, my king. Soon." She said as she flicked his lip with her tongue seductively. "Now go, before the Resistance misses you."
Macintosh nodded and walked back to his carriage. His guards saluted Narissa and got back on their dragons. The whole party flew off into the distance.
Narissa laughed to herself. "The Big Six are in for a surprise."
…
It only took a few days for the Winter to settle into Arendelle. At first, the people rejoiced, for the Queen had returned to save them from the rule of Zika and her lackey, Hans. But after the third day, they knew. The Great Freeze had returned, and it might not go away so easily as before.
The people were cold and confused. One day, Hans and two guards are out giving out cloaks to the people.
"Cloak? Does anyone need a cloak?" He says as he offers one to a woman.
"Arendelle is indebted to you once again, Your Highness."
"The castle is open. There is soup and hot glogg in the Great Hall." He says as he hands the stack of cloaks in hand to a guard. "Here. Pass these out."
At that moment the Duke of Weselton walks toward him with two guards. He sighs deeply.
He warned Zika that it wasn't a good idea for her to get involved with The Duke of Weselton. He warned her he was shifty and untrustworthy. But she seemed to like that about him
"Prince Hans, are we just expected to sit here and freeze while you give away all of Arendelle's tradeable goods?
"Queen Zika has left me in charge..."
"And that's another thing! Has it dawned on you that your Queen may be conspiring with that wicked sorceress to destroy us all just like last time?"
"Do not question Queen Zika. She left me in charge, and I will not hesitate to protect Arendelle from treason."
The Duke looked flabbergasted.
"Treason?!"
"But it's getting colder!" One man said
"We need to take care of Elsa!" Another chimed in.
Soon the complaints were so one on top of another, that Hans couldn't hear them. He climbed up on a cart and spread his hands for silence.
"Enough, please. What Elsa's motivations are I cannot say. But I assure you Zika is pure and noble.
"Why should we listen to you?" The Duke said
Hans sighed.
I'm only the 13th son of a king
Nor am I your leader
Only her Advisor
But my love for her has made something clear
We can't give in to fear
Not here
Not today
We can't know how threatening
The road ahead may be
But put your faith in Zika
The way that Zika put her faith in me
I can't tell you what your Queen sees in me
But let me tell you, what an honor it would be
If you could let me lead you
Through this time of trials
You ask for a leader
A servant responds
Trust Hans of the Southern Isles
"But what of the cold?"
"What of Elsa?"
"What if she's really become a monster?"
"Than she will be dealt with," Hans replied. "And Zika and I will lead you back to Summer."
"Go along with it!" The Duke shouted
He's more than the 13th son of a king
We're lucky he came along in our time of need
We'll never give in to fear and treason
Let's listen to reason and follow his lead
Who will stand with me?
My men and I, my lord
Yes, Weaseltown arises
And offers up the power of his sword
I call to your kingdom
Our kingdom responds
To Hans
Prince Hans of the Southern Isles
The people looked more hopeful after that. Hans smiled and ordered the guard to continue aiding the people.
He walked back to the castle. As he entered the throne room, there he saw Varian, Narissa, and Lady Deathstrike.
"Aren't you supposed to be going back to Dunbrock, Narissa?"
"Oh, I will eventually. I just had to make sure the wards protecting your precious castle were reinforced. Plus I want to see what a pathetic job you were doing helping Arendelle through this crisis. And I have to say, you're getting soft, Hans."
Hans got right in her face. "Arendelle is my responsibility. Not yours. I will run this operation without you. Now go back to your freak camp."
"It's my kingdom, you twit," Narissa said as she smiled and disappeared.
Hans looked at Varian. "What!?"
"Nothing."
"Your little toy better deliver," Hans said as he pointed at Lady Deathstrike.
Just then there was a clicking sound. The fog over Lady Deathstrike's eyes started to fade.
"Ahh. Another refill." Varian said as he went to reach for his pack.
Lady Deathstrike growled at Hans and launched herself at him. She tackled him to the ground and pinned him. As she was ready to stab him, Varian calmly walked over, opened a case on Lady Deathstrike's back, took an empty vial out, put the new one in, and then turned a dial.
"I'll show you what… this… war..rrr…" Lady Deathstrike yelled before she went silent and stood back up.
"Deathstrike, that wasn't nice. Now, help Hans up and apologize."
Lady Deathstrike did as she was told. Hans brushed himself off.
"Why does that happen?"
"She just went through another vial of compliance potion. It lasts a while, but after it goes empty, she can get a little violent."
"Just make sure she's ready!" Hans said as he sat down on his throne.
"Of course."
