Green slumped her bag down, heaving the enormous weight against the lattice fence of Willis's porch. She wiped the sweat from her brow and sighed. The midday summer sun dominated the village with a powerful, all-encompassing glow. A glow that was both blinding as it reflected off the tin roofs and revealing as it illuminated the lush grass that stretched on for miles in every direction. The emptiness of the plains reminded Green of home vaguely. While Route 15 shared the look of Pallet with its endless, hilly plains and wide-open spaces. It lacked any of the vibrancy. All was still and calm on Route 15. While in Pallet there was always something happening. The 150 or so odd Pokémon Red had left behind were always up to some kind of mischief. Creating problems that Green and her mother would inevitably have to deal with. Being free of that burden was undoubtedly a luxury of her journey, but still, Green couldn't help but feel unsatisfied with Route 15's calmness. Not to mention that the smell was all wrong. Route 15 smelt like the ocean. A constant salty breeze washed over the plains. A breeze the only ever faded or flared, never-ending.
"All set, lass?" Willis asked, emerging from inside the cabin.
"All set," Green said.
Willis brought his hand down on Green's shoulder and gave it a squeeze.
"Well, good luck." Willis grinned. "The little bugger ain't a pushover, you'll have your work cut out for yeh."
Green matched his grin with a smirk.
"Good, I don't want a pushover on my team."
"Right you are!" Willis laughed.
Willis stepped past her and leaned against the railing of his porch. He pointed down the street and glanced back.
"The fields are just down there, can't miss 'em."
"Right."
Green joined Willis by his side. She followed his point and saw the berry plantations. Vast fields of rows of tiny trees rolled over a nearby hill at the end of the street. A rainbow of colours populated the fields, each segregated into uniform patches of colour. However, Green could only marvel at the sight for so long. At the end of the street, sitting on the steps of a porch was Abby. Green's stomach churned and she looked away.
"Thanks for last night, I had a lot of fun," Green said, forcing a smile.
"O-Oh, no problem." Willis gingerly patted her hand. "I had fun too."
Green glanced over at him and couldn't help but smirk at his beet-red face.
"I meant what I said last night. We need to do that again sometime."
"Whatever you're comfortable with." Willis clutched the back of his head.
"Perfect," Green giggled.
She stepped back from the railing, turned and planted a kiss on Willis's cheek. His hairy cheek burned against her lips. Leaving Willis frozen like a statue, Green made her way down the steps and headed towards the berry fields.
"Wait!" Willis called to her.
"Yeah?" Green asked, turning around.
"That Tyrogue, he's smart. If you use a pokémon that's too powerful he'll just run away. He won't take a fight he knows he'll lose."
"Right." Green nodded and considered her belt. "I'll keep that in mind."
"Alright, good luck again."
"Thanks!" Green waved to him and continued down the path.
Green walked her with head held high, still riding the high of all the joy and pleasure of last night. The village began to awaken around her. People began emerging from their homes, weary-eyed and half asleep. They watched her with warm curiosity. An elderly woman waved to her and flashed her a toothless grin while a group of small children peered out from behind her legs. A man sat on another porch, lounging beneath the sun with a book in hand. Everyone seemed pleasant enough, or at the very least apathetic to her presence. Abby however, met Green with a scowl. She stood up as Green approached and met her in the street, bag in tow.
"You slept in," Abby said.
"Yeah I know, sorry." Green hunched slightly.
"We can't afford to waste time like this," Abby huffed. "Each hour of daylight is precious."
"It's fine." Green gave a timid smile. "No one knows we're here."
Abby's face remained stern.
"We don't know that. Leah could have figured us out. Hell, when we don't show at Fuchsia bridge it wouldn't take a genius to figure out what we did."
"It's fine!" Green gave her smile more resolve and grasped Abby's shoulder.
Abby jerked away from her. Green continued to smile.
"We can't leave yet anyway. I promised to catch a Tyrogue for Willis. It's stealing their berries."
"You can't, we don't have time."
"But I have to. I might not get this opportunity again."
"Not now!" Abby yelled. Her eyes flared. "It's not worth risking our safety for some Pokémon! Not to mention the safety of everyone here!"
Green tried to keep her smile, but the feeling of the village now staring at the budding argument was making her heart go crazy. Her chest felt tight and her legs felt unsteady. Her smile faltered and Green scowled.
"I'm a fighting type trainer! I need a Tyrogue!" Green yelled.
"Oh are you?" Abby scoffed "How many of your Pokémon are fighting types exactly?"
"Fuck off! What's gotten into you?" Everything Green had been holding back began to pour out of her. "You've been a complete bitch since Celadon! I get the fight with Flint was scary but that's not my fault!"
"What the hell are you talking about?" Abby pulled back defensively. "Y-You're acting crazy! We need to leave."
"No, I'm catching this Pokémon with or without your permission."
Abby stared at her dumbfounded for a moment.
"We need to leave!" She repeated.
"Leave then!"
Green stormed off past Abby's cabin towards the berry fields. She didn't look back, not even once. Her anger burned away inside her, rising and falling, swelling and calming as Green continued the argument with an imaginary version of Abby inside her head. An argument where she got to say all the things she really wanted to say. An argument where she won and Abby apologised. Try as she might, Green couldn't keep her anger forever. As it died away, she kicked a nearby stone and cursed. She stood still, staring at the kicked stone as a pit of emptiness formed in her stomach. Green looked back. Abby was gone. The village had returned to normal. As if the argument hadn't even happened.
"Good," Green told herself. "That's what I wanted."
She stared at the empty porch of Abby's cabin for a while longer before whipping around and passing through the gate of the berry plantation.
The plantation was a grid of wide paths that branched off into the different block-coloured fields. An especially wide path cut the square plantation down the middle, lined with signs labelled with different types of berries. Green walked down that path, wishing she'd actually asked Willis where the Tyrogue would be. Thankfully, she spotted a worker leaving one of the fields and rushed to meet him. He was an older man, far older than Willis. Short and balding, the worn lines on his face told of a long hard life. Despite that, he stood tall and looked to be built just as well as a man half his age. He stopped when he saw her approaching and grinned.
"Excuse me!" She called to him. "I'm here to help with your Tyrogue problem!" Green skidded to a halt before him and began catching her breath.
"Ah! You must be the ranger Willis was going to call-" he began.
"I'm just a trainer," Green interrupted.
The man glanced down at her belt and nodded.
"Right, that you are. Well anyways, he hangs out in the Cheri berry field. Over there." He pointed behind him to a field right on the edge of the compound.
"Okay thank you!" Green ran past him towards the field.
"Good luck, kid! You're gonna need it!" The man laughed.
Green headed all the way to the back of the compound before turning off. The Cheri berry field was right in the back corner of the compound. All around more workers worked away in the fields on their hands and knees planting trees, and picking berries. Each field had a different colour tree. The chesto berry field was full of pink trees. The persim berries grew from blue trees. Lum berry trees were teal, with two large leaves rather than the usual miniature canopies of the waist-high trees. Fields of yellow and fields of orange also greeted Green on her walk. She only needed to briefly glance at them to recognise them. Oak had made her memorise them. He believed that modern trainers relied too heavily on healing potions and other medicine and that every trainer worth their badges should be able to use berries like the trainers of old. Green had always thought he was just stuck in the past but she never dared to say that, to his face at least.
Green stared past all the trees and workers at the village, at the empty porch. At once, she shook her head. There was no time to be angry anymore. She needed to catch this Tyrogue so she could get stronger and be the very best. So she could show her smug, selfish asshole brother that he isn't the only strong one. That she's strong too and she deserves to be recognised and treated with some damn respect.
Green kicked a fence post and yelled nothing in particular. The post wobbled but didn't fall. Behind it, a worker stared at her with a confused, wary look. Green's cheeks flushed and she ducked her head before running off. She kept running until she arrived at the Cheri berry field and began un-clipping her pokéball from her belt. All except one. Green tossed the pokéballs into the air, releasing Machoke, Primeape and Graveler. They all materialised in some form of dazed confusion, looking around blankly, rubbing their eyes and yawning.
"You guys go play, okay? I'm gonna work with Elekid for a bit," Green said.
"Ape!" Primeape bellowed at once.
He took off down the path, hollering and pounding his chest.
"Don't break anything!" Green yelled after him.
Graveler watched Primeape leave with an anxious look. He fidgeted his hands and looked at Green.
"You too, go on," Green said.
"Ape!" Primeape called from the end of the path.
He waved Graveler over.
"Ape! Primeape!"
Graveler stopped fidgeting and grinned.
"G-Graveler!" He cried. He rolled up into a ball and sped down the path.
Machoke still remained. His face was hard and stern.
"Machoke?" He asked, taking a step towards her.
"I don't need you for this one, buddy. Just go play okay?"
Machoke glanced at the field behind Green, shook his head and looked to her again.
"Machoke," he said firmly.
"You can't help, buddy. You're too strong for this, I need a weaker Pokémon."
"Ma!" Machoke shook his head and poked her in the chest. He stared down at her with fierce, stern eyes.
"I… I don't understand. What is it?" Green asked.
Machoke prodded her chest again. It felt like being poked with a sausage.
"Ma. Choke," He said, speaking softer.
The sternness in his eyes gave way to concern.
"Me?" Green asked.
"Ma." Machoke nodded.
Green forced a smile.
"I'm fine, just tired that's all. I didn't sleep well last night."
"Ma…" Machoke stepped closer and put his arms around her, his brow furrowed.
"I'm fine. I'm fine. I promise." Green placed her hands on his chest and pushed him back. "Go on, they're waiting for you."
Machoke stepped back and looked over at Primeape and Graveler waiting at the end of the path. He glanced down at her, still wary.
"Machoke." He nodded and left to join the others.
Once they were gone, Green sighed and released Elekid. He appeared before her with a flash of red light, sitting down and half asleep.
"Kid?" He murmured, rubbing his eyes with his large cylindrical hands.
"Hey, been a while huh?" Green said softly. She squatted down before him.
"Elekid!" Elekid jumped to his feet and grinned at her.
Green opened her arms for a hug but Elekid stepped back with a scowl.
"Alright alright! No hugs then, gotcha," Green laughed.
She closed her arms and Elekid smiled again. He looked around, exploring his new environment. As he kicked at the dirt and peered at the berry trees behind Green, his ears twitched and sparked.
"You ready for a fight?" Green asked.
At once Elekid's attention was back on her.
"Elekid!" He pumped his fists in the air.
"Great, well come on then," Green entered the Cheri berry field. "Your opponent is in here."
Elekid ran ahead, looking around eagerly. He darted off down one of the rows of berry trees and Green gave chase. The Cheri berry trees had leaves of light blue in great contrast to the red, round Cheri berries growing from them. A few workers worked between the rows of trees, men and women around the same age as herself collected the berries in baskets. They shot Elekid curious, amused looks as he rushed past and gave Green a courteous nod as she pursued.
"Wait up Elekid!" Green called out.
Elekid stopped and looked back.
"Kid!" He protested and folded his arms.
He tapped his foot as she caught up.
"You don't even know who you're fighting," Green giggled.
"Ele." Elekid shrugged.
"It's a Tyrogue."
Elekid had no reaction.
"A fighting Pokémon your size," Green said.
"Kid." Elekid nodded and turned to run off.
"Wait," Green hissed in a hushed voice.
"Kid!"
"Shhh, listen."
Elekid went quiet and together, they listened. Green had picked up a quiet rustling, from where she couldn't tell. But as she listened closer, she knew it was coming from her right. Green ducked down and squatted beside Elekid. He watched her curiously as she peered through the rows of berry trees beside them. In the next row over, Tyrogue was frantically picking Cheri berries and checking back and forth. But not backwards, where Green was. Tyrogue was a humanoid Pokémon with a skinny, pale purple body that stood on two round, brown feet. His hands had three digits each, two fingers and a thumb. His head, large and round sported three blunt plates that stuck up like a mohawk. Bandages were wrapped around his wrists and waist tightly. While skinny, he was extremely lean with finely worked muscles that showed without being flexed.
"Get him Elekid!" Green burst through the berry trees and pointed down at Tyrogue.
At once, Tyrogue spun around and dropped his berries. His round, yellow eyes became wide and alert, focusing on Green for half a heartbeat until Elekid rushed him.
"Kid!" Elekid cried, his fists sparking.
Elekid rushed forward and swung his wildly sparking fist. Tyrogue leapt back, dodging the swing. As soon as his feet hit the ground again, Tyrogue sprung back towards Elekid, fist closed. As Elekid stumbled forward from his missed punch, Tyrogue cracked him across the head with a punch, drove his knee into Elekid's stomach and brought both fists down on the back of his head in a combo almost too fast to follow. His fists and legs spat orange sparks on impact. Elekid hit the ground like a sack of potatoes. He struggled to rise, shaking as he pushed himself up by his cylindrical fists. Tyrogue smirked and attacked again, kicking Elekid in the side before he could rise.
"Kid!" Elekid cried and fell back down.
"Ty-Ty-Rogue," Tyrogue laughed and kicked him again.
Elekid whimpered and lay still in defeat. Tyrogue leered at Green before ducking away through the rows of berry trees and disappearing. Green clicked her tongue and sat down beside Elekid.
"You alright?" She asked as she picked him up and placed him in her lap.
Elekid didn't struggle. He just groaned and looked up at Green with a swollen eye. A trickle of blood was drooling from his mouth. The side of his hard shell of a body was cracked and seeping blood.
"Hold on, I'll make it better," Green whispered. "Shut your eyes and try to relax."
Elekid gave a shaky nod and shut his eyes. His breathing became slow and shaky. Green got out a potion bottle from her medicine pouch and began to spray Elekid's wounds. As the purple liquid covered him, the injuries began to fade.
"It's been too long since we trained, you're out of practice," Green said.
"Kid…" Elekid looked away sheepishly.
"Hey, that's not your fault," Green laughed. "It's mine. I'm your trainer after all."
Green cleared up the last of Elekid's injuries and put away the spray bottle. Elekid leapt from her lap onto his feet and rolled his shoulder.
"Better?" Green asked.
"Kid!" Elekid beamed.
"Great, now do you remember what we worked on last time?"
"Elekid." Elekid pointed to his ears.
"That's right, your ranged attacks. Well, Tyrogue is all melee attacks. You gotta use your advantage and attack from a distance."
"Kid!" Elekid hopped out into the middle of the path.
He narrowed his eyes at a berry tree. His ears sparked wildly, whipping powerful bolts of lightning around his head. A thunderbolt cracked through the air and the canopy of the berry tree exploded into flames.
"Whoa!" Green looked around. "I like the enthusiasm but don't destroy the trees!" She hopped to her feet and quickly stomped out the flaming tree.
Elekid smirked at her and pounded his fists together. Green looked around again, thankfully no one had seen. She waved Elekid along.
"Come on, let's go try that again. We can beat him, he's not so tough."
"Kid!" Elekid agreed and joined Green by her side.
Together, they combed the rows of berry trees until they found Tyrogue again, stealing berries. He stuffed a handful of them into his mouth, chewed them quickly, swallowed then spat out a mouthful of seeds.
"Hey!" Green yelled and pointed at him. "We challenge you again."
Tyrogue grinned at Elekid.
"Ty-Ty-Rogue."
"Elekid!" Elekid yelled and charged in, his fists sparking.
"Use your range!" Green yelled after him.
Elekid skidded to a halt and braced. As he made the transition from charging into aiming, Tyrogue leapt up on top of the berry trees. He landed on top of one and perched like a bird roosting in a nest, watching Elekid closely with narrowed eyes.
"Eleeeeeee!" Elekid's ears spat whipping bolts. "Kid!" A bot cracked through the air.
Tyrogue leapt again, the berry tree exploded but Tyrogue escaped unharmed. He landed on the tree in front and began running between their canopies with long, leaping strides. Orange sparks flew from his heels with each stride.
"Ty!" He leapt. "Ty!" He leapt. "Rogue!" He jumped up high into the air. His foot extended and burst into orange flames as he came rushing down towards Elekid.
"Kid!" Elekid cried and scrambled to dodge.
He got out of the way but only a fraction of the second before Tyrogue came crashing down behind him. The ground exploded with a plume of dirt and dust. Green shielded her eyes as she yelled a command.
"That'll have stunned him! Thunder punch!"
Elekid whirred around and lurched into the cloud of dust, swinging a thunder punch. As he did, Tyrogue lurched forward too. He ducked around Elekid's punch. The sparking fist sailed past his head, coming within inches of making contact. Tyrogue drove his palm into Elekid's stomach, making him cry out and stumble backwards. He waggled his arms, trying to keep his balance. Tyrogue turned on his side, leaned back, extended his still blazing leg up and kicked Elekid in the face. A ring of orange essence exploded on impact and Elekid was sent flying up into the air. He landed with a heavy thud and went limp. Tyrogue's leg extinguished. He whipped around and stared at Green. The side of his head where Elekid's fist had passed was slightly singed where stray, spitting bolts had clipped him. He wasn't grinning anymore. Nor did he leer. He scowled at her and narrowed his large, yellow eyes.
"Ty. Rogue." He grunted gruffly before disappearing through the berry trees.
Green gritted her teeth and kicked the dirt.
"Get it together, he's just a wild Pokémon," she said to herself before rushing to Elekid.
He strained to rise but collapsed as soon as put any pressure on his arms. His face was a bloody mess and the front of his torso was cracked.
"Keep still, just stay there," Green said as she got out her spray bottle.
She rolled Elekid onto his back and began spraying his front. In an instant, the injuries cleared and Elekid was back on his feet again. However, he wasn't beaming anymore. He stomped the ground.
"Kid!" He yelled before blasting a nearby berry tree.
"Yeah I know…" Green said softly. "But don't give up, there's still more we can do."
"Elekid?" Elekid's ears twitched.
"Tyrogue is fast, really fast and is perceptive enough to see where you're aiming and dodge your attacks. So, we've gotta match his speed and make your aiming less obvious." Green knelt down before Elekid. "I'm gonna teach you a new move, okay?"
Elekid beamed wildly.
"Elekid!"
"It's called quick attack. It's a technique that allows you to move in with bursts of speed so fast it looks like you're teleporting. Now, you know your electric energy right?"
"Kid." Elekid nodded.
"Well, when you use an electric attack you can feel it flowing all throughout you, can't you?"
"Kid!" Elekid raised his fists and sparked them.
"Exactly." Green giggled. "Now try throwing a normal punch with no electricity."
Elekid gave her a wary look but drew back his arm all the same. He swung it forward in a wide, downward arc.
"No, that's a chop. A punch is like this." Green raised her fists up just below her jaw and jabbed a punch straight out.
Elekid nodded and copied her, throwing a quick jab.
"Good, now do it again as hard as you can and concentrate on your body. Take a deep breath and close your eyes."
Elekid looked down at his fists and gave a slow nod. He shut his eyes, drew in a deep breath and stood still for a moment. His fists raised and his body twisted as he drew his fist back. Then suddenly, he threw a punch with his whole body behind it. White sparks spat from his fist. His eyes opened and Elekid cried out.
"Ele! Elekid!" he threw another punch and marvelled as white sparks flew.
"Great job! That's normal energy, buddy. It's the energy that flows through every living being. Even me."
Elekid grinned and raised his fists at her.
"That doesn't mean we can fight!" Green laughed. "Pokémon are different from humans. You can take that normal energy and manipulate it to manifest powerful abilities. Let it flow from here." Green prodded Elekid's chest. "And spread all throughout your body."
Elekid closed his eyes again and held his fists out down by his sides. He drew a long breath. White sparks sizzled beneath his short, fuzzy yellow and black fur, spitting from the hard shell of his body. He released the breath. The sparks flared like a thousand tiny fireworks before joining together in one uniform glow. The glow lasted but a moment before fizzling out.
"Yes, that's it. Now take that flow and put it all into your legs. Then lunge forward!" Green was on her feet, grinning madly.
"Kid!"
Elekid prepared to lunge. He leaned forward on one leg and put the other behind him. He lowered his head and stared forward with fierce, wild eyes. Green hopped out of his way and watched from the side of the path. Elekid drew in a deep breath. His body flared with white sparks. The breath released and the glow returned. Elekid furrowed his brow and the glow shifted down into his legs. He lunged forward, normal energy erupted from his feet, the ground exploded and in the blink of an eye, he was a few feet down the path. The blink had been so fast that Elekid didn't even register that he'd moved until he was falling onto his face.
"Ele!" He waggled his arms, trying desperately to salvage his balance.
Elekid fell onto his face with a gentle thud.
"El-Elekid!" He laughed and hopped to his feet.
"Yes! Great job!" Green ran up to him. "Now try again. This time don't fall, throw a punch as you leap so that it lands as soon as you arrive."
Elekid obeyed immediately. Breathing in; sparking. Breathing out; glowing and blinking forward. A yellow trail followed him through the white streak of his quick attack as he threw a thunder punch at the air. A powerful overarm punch that looked sure to cause some devastation.
"Again! You need to charge the attack faster. Take too long and you'll give him time to dodge."
Elekid launched attack after attack. Explosions echoed out all throughout the berry plantation like the roar of cannons from a distant battle. Each time Elekid launched his attack he got quicker and quicker at charging until he could charge up and lunge in a heartbeat.
"Alright, that's enough. That'll do," Green said.
"Elekid!" Elekid turned to run off down the path.
"Wait! One more thing, buddy."
"Kid…"
"You're faster but we still need to make him slower."
Elekid's ears pricked up and he cocked his head. Green pressed both her fists together and held them out.
"Copy me, I'm gonna teach you Thunder Wave," she said. "God, I hope this works," she thought.
Elekid copied her, pressing the flat ends of his cylindrical fists together.
"Channel your electricity through your fists. Like a thunder punch but keep them sparking."
"Kid." He nodded.
Elekid's fists both began to spark.
"More power, buddy."
"Kid!"
Elekid's ears began sparking and his fists took on a yellow glow.
"Good, now pass the currents through each other, from one fist to the other."
Elekid furrowed his brow and stared at his fists intently. The sparking grew fiercer and the glow grew brighter.
"That's it! Give it all you've got!"
"ELEKID!"
Yellow flames erupted from both fists and yellow bolts began to whip around his fists.
"Moment of truth…" Green thought. "Pull them apart!" She yelled.
Elekid tried to separate his fists a few inches, straining to do so. Yellow bolts bound the fists together, conjoining like strands of electric string.
"Yes! Use all your strength!"
"KID!"
Elekid strained and strained as he forced his fists apart further and further. As he did more electric strings shot between his fists, crisscrossing over each other to form an electric net.
"Take aim and thrust your fists forward!"
Elekid aimed his fists at a tree beside Green and thrust them forward. The electric net let go of his fists and fired through the air. It wrapped around the tree, glowed and sent a powerful burst of electricity through its trunk. Elekid sighed and dropped his fists, panting to catch his breath.
"Nice work, that'll paralyse anything it touches," Green said.
Elekid looked down at his fists unsure.
"Hey, it's okay. As you get stronger you'll be able to do it faster and bigger. Just use the first bit of thunder wave for this fight. Bait Tyrogue into doing a jumping attack, make your thunder wave and catch his attack in the net."
Elekid grinned and nodded.
"Kid!" He pumped his fists and stood tall. "Elekid!"
"That's the spirit!"
For the next hour or so, Green and Elekid worked on getting his thunder wave out faster. Over and over again, Elekid bound his fists, struggled to separate them and formed a net of electric strings. Not much progress was made on getting faster but the strength increased greatly. Elekid could now keep the thunder wave charged for a handful of seconds before having to release it. While they were training, a small group of workers gathered upon the path outside the field to watch. Once they were both satisfied, Green and Elekid set out to find Tyrogue again. They found him at the very edge of the field, picking berries along the fence. He saw them and once again dropped everything. He narrowed his eyes and took a wide, cautious stance, eyeing both Green and Elekid with wary scepticism.
"Stay calm, buddy. Remember, use your quick attack and thunder wave to keep the speed of the fight to your advantage," Green said.
"Kid…" Elekid nodded and sparked his ears.
Elekid stepped forward but didn't move more than a few steps past Green. He and Tyrogue stared each other down; an eerie silence fell over the field. Both Pokémon stood frozen not making a sound.
"Quick attack!" Green yelled.
In a heartbeat, the ground beneath Elekid's feet exploded as he became a glowing white and yellow streak. The gap between them closed instantly and Elekid slammed a thunder punch into Tyrogue's face.
"Rogue!" Tyrogue cried as he was sent skidding across the ground on his back.
"Blast him while he's down, thunderbolt!"
"Rogue!" "Kid!" Tyrogue and Elekid cried at the same time.
Elekid lowered his head and took aim at Tyrogue as he lay on the ground. Tyrogue's legs burst into orange flames. A bolt cracked through the air and the ground where Tyrogue lay exploded. A cloud of dust erupted into the air. Tyrogue rocketed up out of the cloud, leg ablaze and raised to land a jump kick. He sailed through the air towards Elekid, eyes narrowed in concentration. Immediately, Elekid slammed his fists together.
"Eleeeeee!" His fists erupted into yellow flames. "KID!" He ripped his fists away from each other and a net of electric stings formed between them.
Elekid raised his thunder wave and intercepted Tyrogue's jump kick at the last second. Tyrogue's blazing leg passed through the electric net and a surge of electricity rushed through his body. All of his momentum cancelled out and he froze in the air, trapped inside Elekid's thunder wave. Elekid shoved his fists forward, firing the thunder wave. It passed over Tyrogue's body, frying him all over. Elekid's fists flew apart, dropping Tyrogue's limp body to the ground. He twitched and spasmed, making little grunts each time.
"Kid!" Elekid cheered and raised his fists above his head.
Elekid went to turn to Green and Green went to rush to meet him when a squelching sound came from Tyrogue. They both whipped their attention back to him and saw blood dribbling from his mouth.
"Wait…" Green said, holding up her hand.
Elekid shot her a concerned look and lowered his fists. Green's eyes suddenly widened.
"That's not blood."
Tyrogue pushed himself up off the ground, shaking horribly. Yellow sparks flickered between his lean muscles as he moved. Slowly, he began to chew. The more he chewed the less he sparked and the less he shook. Until unbelievably he was back on his feet with a cocky grin. He pointed at Elekid, his eyes wild with manic fury.
"Ty! Rogue!"
The workers watching them began to laugh amongst themselves.
"A Cheri berry?! When did he get that in his mouth?!" Green screamed internally.
"Never mind! He's still injured, Elekid, get him!" Green said.
"Kid!" Elekid engulfed his fists in a veil of electricity and swung a punch at Tyrogue.
Despite his serious burns, Tyrogue ducked around the punch and countered with a headbutt. Elekid staggered backwards and Tyrogue swiftly cracked Elekid upside the head with a spinning, side-flip kick. The side of Elekid's head cracked, splintering like the bark of a tree.
"Use quick attack to escape! Keep your distance!" Green yelled.
Elekid began to charge, glowing a bright white. But in the fraction of a second Elekid paused to charge, Tyrogue jumped forward and wrapped both legs around Elekid's waist, throwing Elekid to the ground. Then, in a flash Tyrogue was back in the air. His leg burst into orange flame and he slammed it down onto Elekid's stomach. The impact exploded with a loud boom and a flare of orange essence. Elekid was left embedded in a small crater, psychically devastated and unconscious. A chorus of laughter came from the spectating workers.
"Elekid!" Green cried and ran to heal him.
"ROGUE!" Tyrogue screamed at her.
Green skidded to a halt. Tyrogue stood between her and Elekid, he stared her down. One of his eyes had been swollen shut from Elekid's thunder punch but even so, his single good eye gave off enough fury that Green unconsciously took a step back. Tyrogue slammed his fist into his burned chest and stomped the ground. He pointed at Green.
"TYROGUE!"
With un-breaking eye contact, Tyrogue walked over to the berry trees by the fence, ripped off a handful of Cheri berries and ducked beneath the fence into the plains. He looked back as he ran off, glaring at Green. Baffled, Green watched him for a moment until Elekid's groaning snapped her back to reality.
"Shit! Elekid, hold still I'll-" Green pulled out her spray bottle only to find it empty. "Great…" she muttered.
Green unclipped Elekid's pokéball from her belt and returned him. He dematerialised with a flash of red light and Green held his ball against her forehead.
"Sorry, buddy. I fucked up."
"Don't feel bad, kid!" A worker laughed.
"Yeah, he'll be back! You'll get 'em next time for sure!" Another shouted.
Green couldn't tell if they were making fun of her or not, and she wasn't about to find out. She took off, running out of the field, down the main path of the plantation and back into the village. The world around her disappeared into a blur as she ran. The sting of her defeat kept up though, punching her in the gut over and over again. Tears began to well in her eyes. In no time Green reached Willis's cabin and dashed up the stairs of its porch. She grabbed her bag, flung open the zipper and rummaged through it until she found her healing machine. Hastily, she threw it onto the ground beside her bag and put Elekid's ball inside it. After flipping the switch Green didn't even wait to hear its startup chime before throwing herself onto the steps and burying her face into her hands. Desperately, she fought back her tears.
"Get a hold of yourself dammit, you're an adult now. Adults don't cry over stuff like this," she muttered to herself.
Green started to cry. She'd always heard that a good cry made you feel better. Maybe that had been a lie because as Green cried she only felt worse. She stomped her foot, determined to stop. It took all of her effort and energy but she managed it. She forced her tears to stop and buried her sobs down deep inside her. With a hardened face she stood, her fists clenched and shaking by her side. Booming explosions rippled through the quiet town. Green no longer had to try to keep her crying away as he looked around in a panic.
"Is it another attack? Are the ranger here?" She thought frantically.
She looked out into the plains and found her answer. Machoke and Primeape were locked in a sparring fight. They weren't using any fighting energy but still when their punches and kicks collided, they let off terrifying explosions that rattled the very ground. A small group of villagers had gathered at the end of the single street to watch the spectacle. Green couldn't help but smile just a little.
"I guess they didn't see me cry then," she said to herself.
Green sighed and looked up at the sky.
"There has to be a way to beat Tyrogue with Elekid. What am I missing here?"
Green stood up and climbed the porch. She leaned against the railing and watched Machoke and Primeape spar. Off to the side of their fight, Graveler watched with the most adorable gleeful look. He was like a younger sibling watching his big brothers.
"I raised these guys and they've faced worse." Green shook her head. "If I can beat the likes of Surge, then I can definitely… wait. Surge…" Green grinned and turned back to face her healing machine. "What if I cross-type Elekid into flying!-" Green stopped and her enthusiasm died.
As the words came from her mouth she knew it was a bad idea. Crosstyping normally was difficult enough but from the research, she'd been doing into it after her battle with Surge, Green knew that crosstyping into an opposing type was near impossible. Something that required high-level expertise in Pokémon training. An expertise Green knew she didn't have yet. Teaching Elekid a psychic type move wouldn't be as bad as a flying-type move, but without access to a psychic type Pokémon it would be an uphill battle Green wasn't sure she could win. No, cross typing wouldn't do.
Green threw herself back down onto the stairs and stared at the dirt as she racked her brain. But no matter how hard she tried, she just couldn't think of anything. Only a loose jumble of ideas ricocheted around her mind, none of which seemed to connect to the other in any meaningful way. Until one idea stuck out to her. But it wasn't a solution. Reluctantly, Green turned to face her bag. She reached in, sighed and pulled out Red's old Pokédex. It turned on with a pitiful, distorted beep.
"Why couldn't I have just gotten my own," she grumbled as she flipped through the Pokémon files.
Eventually, she found the page on Elekids. It began to read in its robotic voice.
"Elekid. The Electric Pokemon. The basic form of the Electivire line and the pre-evolution to Electabuzz. Even in the most vicious storms, this Pokémon plays happily. If struck by lightning, they will gain a massive power surge that will be stored in their bodies for days at a time."
Green waited for the Pokédex to say more. But it didn't.
"Great…" Green muttered. "Useful." She tossed the Pokédex back inside her bag.
She picked up the healing machine and placed it on her lap.
"Think, think. I need a new angle. A new approach. If I can find that then maybe the solution will present itself to me," Green said to Elekid's glowing Pokéball. "What if I… instead of looking at Elekid's weaknesses and trying to come up with strengths, I try looking at Tyrogue's weaknesses? No, I already did that. He makes himself vulnerable with his jump attacks, that's when we need to strike. But I did that and it didn't work. If he can just eat a Cheri berry to break the paralysis, he'll just be too fast." Green's eyes widened.
"Speed… when a Tyrogue masters offence it becomes a Hitmonlee. When it masters defence it becomes a Hitmonchan. Hitmonlees are fast and Hitmonchans are tough!" Green jumped to her feet and held the healing machine out in front of her. "You counter a Hitmonchan with agility and a Hitmonlee with raw power. Buddy, we need to come up with an attack for you that uses all your power at once! Hit him with one big hit that'll knock him out before he even has a chance to outmanoeuvre you!"
The healing machine stopped glowing and let out a ringing chime. Green grabbed Elekid's pokéball at once and released him. He appeared at the bottom of the stairs with a dazed look. In a frantic rush, Green almost tripped as she dashed down the stairs.
"Elekid! I know how we can beat Tyrogue!"
"Kid!" Elekid cried.
He scrambled to the side as Green nearly ran right into him. Green got down on her knees, bringing her eyes just above Elekid's level.
"We're gonna come at him hard right out of the gate with a huge electric attack that'll knock him out right away!"
"Elekid!" Elekid smirked and pumped his fists.
They both sat there grinning at each other for a moment. Elekid's grin broke first.
"Ele… kid?" He asked, lowering his fists slowly.
"I don't unders- oh. How do we do that?"
Elekid nodded.
"Well, that's easy! We… uh… do, something?"
"Elekid…" Elekid grumbled.
"Hey!" Green laughed. "I don't see you coming up with any ideas."
Elekid grinned and held up his fist.
"Kid!" He threw a thunder punch at the air.
"Your plan is to punch him?"
"Kid!" Elekid shook his head and punched again with an insistent look.
"Punch him, really hard?"
Elekid nodded.
"Kid! Kid! Kid!" He threw a flurry of thunder punches.
"Ah, I see. Punch him really hard, lots of times."
"Ele!" Elekid raised his fists above his head with a beaming smile.
"Great plan…" Green mumbled.
"Elekid!" Elekid began dancing around happily.
Green giggled and watched him as she tried to come up with a proper plan. First, she considered Elekid's thunder punches. They weren't it, Elekid could only punch so hard and he was already pushing his limit, at least the limit of his current form. Evolving would unlock some of the high tier electric attacks but Green hadn't the slightest idea how to actually go about making Elekid evolve, let alone teaching him moves like Thunder or Electro-Ball. That left Thunderbolt as her only option, but charging a Thunderbolt strong enough to one-hit Tyrogue would take time and Tyrogue was definitely smart enough to stop Elekid. Not to mention how easy it would be to dodge, Elekid would have to stand still as he channelled electricity through his ears. Even the slightest movement would disrupt the current between his ears and break the channel. Green sighed and kneaded her forehead.
"There's gotta be something," she said.
Elekid stopped dancing and cocked his head, which meant cocking his whole body. "Kid?" His ears twitched, causing them to spark.
"Huh." Green stopped kneading her forehead. "Do that again Elekid."
"Kid?" Elekid twitched his ears and they sparked again.
"Yeah, that."
"Elekid!" He did it again.
"Are you sparking your ears on purpose?" Green sat up on her knees.
Elekid shook his head. Little electric sparks popped amongst his fuzzy fur. Green had noticed his body doing that before but thought nothing of it. However, now it was getting her mind to start racing with new ideas.
"Try shaking your hand back and forth," Green said and peered down at his hands.
Elekid shook his hand up and down roughly. They both marvelled at it as sparks popped and whizzed from the fur, a few even surged and arched into thin arches of lightning. Green hopped up onto her feet and grinned wildly.
"Shake your hand back and forth, then throw a punch!"
"Kid!" Elekid shook his head.
Instead, he began spinning his arm around in a circle. It rotated cleanly all the way around as if attached to an unseen axle.
"I didn't know your arm could do that," Green laughed.
"Kid." Elekid beamed.
He spun his arm faster. Lighting crackled and popped off his fist. It followed behind the spinning fist in a trail of surging yellow.
"Alright, now throw a punch!"
Elekid leapt forward away from Green and threw a punch. Although it hit nothing, the punch still exploded. Lighting fired from Elekid's fist a few inches, cracking the air in a round ring.
"Okay! Do it again, but channel a thunderbolt through your fist instead of your ears!"
"Elekid!"
Elekid started spinning his arm again. Immediately, it picked up its lightning trail again. He furrowed his brow and his ears began sparking interdependently of each other. Large bolts of lightning crackled down along his arm and the trail following his fist grew thicker. Elekid sped up even further until the trail was a sparking yellow circle.
"Alright! Thunderbolt!"
Elekid stepped forward and threw a punch. An enormous bolt of lightning cracked through the air and struck the ground a few feet away. The ground exploded, sending small chunks of dirt hurtling up above the roofs of the cabins. They rained back down, breaking into tiny pebbles of hardened dirt that caked the street like a dusting of icing sugar. Bewildered gasps and shouts filled the air. The small group of villagers who had been watching Machoke and Primeape fight were now facing back toward Green and Elekid. Some looked amused while others looked annoyed.
"Sorry!" Green shouted before turning to Elekid. "Come on, let's get out of here."
"Kid!" Elekid took off towards the berry plantation.
Green ran after him before stopping suddenly.
"Hold on wait!" She called to Elekid as she ran back to Willis's porch.
Elekid stopped with a grumble. Green dashed up the stairs, opened her bag and got out a new spray potion.
"Not that we'll need it," she giggled and ran back to Elekid.
When Green returned to Elekid he was staring down the street at the hill before the berry plantation, eyes narrowed. His ears twitched and he made a low buzzing sound. Sparks popped from his fur. Green followed his gaze and saw he was staring at the tall grass lining the path. The grass was rustling. It shook back and forth until a pink head popped out. Tyrogue emerged holding a small blue berry, grinning wildly. He pointed at Elekid and shouted.
"Rogue!"
"Elekid!" Elekid sparked his fists and slammed them together.
The wounds Tyrogue had suffered from their previous fight were gone, except for his swollen eye. He popped the blue berry in his mouth and bit down. Blue juice flowed from his mouth and dribbled down his chin. The swelling of his eye faded quickly along with dark, purple bruising until it appeared as if it had never been there. Green stepped forward beside Elekid.
"Oh? You're approaching us?" She asked.
Tyrogue shifted his gaze to her. The wild fury that filled his eyes before was gone. Instead, his eyes were dulled, the kind of dull that accompanied deep, focused concentration. He grasped the cloth wrapped around his wrist
"Ty." He pulled it tight. "Rouge." He tightened the other.
He stomped his foot out to the side, taking a wide stance. His gaze fell back to Elekid. Elekid stepped forward and both Pokémon stared each other down with silent, deathly stares.
"Wind up, Elekid. Use both arms and remember, if he gets close use your quick attack to escape to range." Green stepped back a safe distance.
Elekid nodded and began whirling his arms. The lighting trail picked up instantly and formed two glowing circles on either side of Elekid. Tyrogue cocked his head.
"Rogue?" He asked.
Elekid smirked. A current started flowing through him, coursing all over the surface of his body.
"Rogue!" Tyrogue exclaimed, his eyes went wide.
"Fire!" Green yelled.
Elekid took a step forward to fire. At the same time, Tyrogue stomped the ground and kicked up a small cloud of dust that concealed him from view. A confused look crossed Elekid's face and he hesitated. As soon as he stopped whirring his arms, the lightning fizzled out. A loud boom exploded from the dust cloud and Tyrogue shot out like a rocket towards Elekid, legs ablaze in orange flame. In a heartbeat Tyrogue closed the distance and flew into Elekid's chest, striking him with a closed fist. Elekid went flying back along with Tyrogue. Tyrogue caught the ground and ground to a halt while Elekid skipped along the ground before coming to a gradual stop before Green's feet. The front of his chest was cracked and oozing a thin trickle of blood. Despite that, Elekid was back on his feet in an instant and charging back in. Tyrogue crouched down, his blazing legs flared and shot towards Elekid again.
"Quick attack!" Green yelled.
In an instant, Elekid shot to the side becoming a streak of white. Tyrogue pursued, dashing after him. The two Pokémon became streaks of white and orange as they dashed around the battlefield. Each time Tyrogue dashed to meet Elekid he took a swing at him with a fist engulfed in orange flame. Their movements were almost too fast to keep up with but somehow Green managed.
"Stop and block!" Green yelled.
Elekid caught himself on the ground, kicking up dust behind him. He raised his arms in a cross just in time to block Tyrogue's speeding punch. The impact roared like a cannon but left only a small, black scuff mark on Elekid's thick cylindrical fist. Elekid grinned from behind his fists at the baffled Tyrogue.
"Rouge!" Tyrogue threw another blazing punch to the side of Elekid's crossed arms.
Elekid moved with him and blocked the second punch. Tyrogue yelled and threw another, then another and another all of which were blocked. A fluffy of wild punches were thrown at all sorts of angles and speeds, leaving behind arching trails of orange flame all around them. Elekid blocked each one but each impact made him step back and Tyrogue filled the space immediately.
"Look for an opening! You need to counter!" Green yelled.
Behind Green, the small group of villagers watching Machoke and Primeape had gathered to watch the new fight. Elekid's eyes danced about furiously as he blocked punch after punch. Tyrogue threw a punch and in a moment too fast for Green to comprehend, Elekid threw an underhand hook into Tyrogue's ribs. He staggered back, recoiling from the hit. Elekid's fists began to shoot out sparks everywhere. He wound up, creating a windmill of yellow sparks, stepped forward and threw a charged up thunder punch. In a flash, Tyrogue had his arm raised. His wrist absorbed the hit but the small shot of electricity that came off the punch still shocked Tyrogue, singing his wrist and the bandages bound to it. The singed bandages began to smoulder, then embers popped and they ignited. Tyrogue smirked, flicked his wrist out to the side and twisted it. The flames turned red and his hand took on a red glow.
"Flame Punch?!" Green exclaimed.
"Kid?!" Elekid took a step back.
The crowd gasped as Tyrogue lunged at Elekid and threw a flaming punch. Elekid raised his fists and blocked the punch. Flames flared in impact and licked up at Elekid's face, singing his fuzzy fur. It left a dark scorch mark behind on Elekid's fist and a small crack. Elekid winced and threw a punch back which was blocked by Tyrogue's other fist, still engulfed in fighting-type flame. Their rapid-fire melee resumed. Punches were thrown and blocked by both sides. Trials of red, orange and yellow streaked through the air around them like comets racing around their heads. They pushed each other back and forth as the fight's tempo shifted rapidly between them. The tug of war for dominance began to push them to the side, towards one of the cabins. They climbed the steps of the balcony, hopping up the steps to try and land a punch on the other from above but still the stalemate persisted. At the top of the steps, their battle locked in place, neither one holding onto the tempo long enough to push the other back. That was until Elekid hit a hot streak. A punch hit Tyrogue's wrist hard enough to stagger him and Elekid showed no mercy. With a fluffy of sparking punches, Elekid pushed Tyrogue back towards a table on the balcony. Tyrogue leapt up backwards and leered down at Elekid from the table.
"Follow him!" Green yelled.
"Kid!" Elekid yelled at Tyrogue.
He dashed to the side, kicked off the outside of the cabin and wall hopped up onto the table. Tyrogue tried to counter but Elekid hit him with a hard headbutt first, staggering him again. The awkward angle of his jump staggered Elekid too and both Pokémon reentered the fight on equal standings. The table rocked back and forth as their punches collided.
"My table!" A villager yelled.
"Sorry!" Green yelled. "Watch out for kicks, Elekid!"
Sure enough, a kick came just as Green yelled. Tyrogue drove his knee up towards Elekid's cracked front. Elekid hopped back, narrowly avoiding the hit. Tyrogue went to lunge after him but Elekid beat him to it, cracking Tyrogue across the head with an overarm punch. Yellow sparks flew but not enough to zap Tyrogue. Tyrogue managed to brace as the hit came and wasn't staggered, although he still recoiled slightly. Elekid wound his arm over his head and brought it down for a chop. Tyrogue raised his arms to block but Elekid reversed his swing at the last second. In a flash, his fist was glowing yellow and swinging up from below. It gained enough charge to zap on impact, singing the bottom of Tyrogue's chin as he was uppercut and sent flying off the table. Tyrogue flew from the balcony and came crashing down on the ground. When he hit the ground he gasped and lay winded.
"Now's your chance! Thunderbolt!" Green yelled.
Elekid began winding his arm. It glowed a bright pulsing yellow as it spun; a trail of lighting followed after it. He spun it for one second, then two. Tyrogue began to struggle back to his feet.
"Now!" Green yelled.
"Eleeee!" he stepped forward. "KID!" He pointed his arm at Tyrogue and a huge, thick bolt of lightning cracked through the air and struck him in the chest.
Tyrogue didn't even have time to scream as the belt exploded off him into a huge black cloud and sent him flying back like a bullet. He skidded to a halt, leaving behind a trail of dust. Lighting popped and crackled along his body, making him twitch. The crowd cheered but neither Green nor Elekid moved a muscle. They watched him, knowing there could be more. Unbelievably, there was. Tyrogue groaned and struggled to his feet. Blood drooled from his broken jaw, a huge cracked scorch mark covered his chest and he was covered in scrapes. Yet still, he stood regardless and reignited his fists with fighting and fire energy.
"He's tough…" Green marvelled. "He's tough?!"
"ELEKID!" Elekid screamed. His body glowed white and he took off with such force that the table splintered beneath his feet.
Like a white shooting star, Elekid rocketed towards Tyrogue. Tyrogue didn't raise his fists, he just clenched them and closed his eyes. Elekid slammed a speeding thunder punch into Tyrogue's belly but somehow didn't knock him over. He skidded back a few inches, absorbing the hit.
"How can he have great offence and defence?" Green asked herself.
The Pokémon broke out into another melee. Elekid decided the tempo of the fight, always pursuing and always attacking but none of his hits seemed to be enough. Thunder punch and after thunder punch struck Tyrogue but never knocked him down. Each block from Tyrogue was a clear effort that made him grit. He missed a few blocks here and there but it didn't seem to matter. Still, he began to miss more and more. The blocks he did hit looked more like accidents than purposeful movement. However, all of a sudden Tyrogue's eyes flared with rage, then with orange flame. He kicked the ground and rocketed back out of Elekid's range, then while still sailing back he angled forward and kicked the ground, flying up high into the air towards Elekid. His leg burst into flame for a jump kick.
"Thunderwave!" Green yelled.
Elekid slammed his fists together. They glowed yellow and sparked furiously. He held up his fists and watched Tyrogue bear down on him with narrowed eyes. Green held her breath. The outcome was completely out of her hands now. However, she wasn't worried for long. With plenty of room to spare, Elekid pulled his fists apart and formed an electric net between them. He fired it towards Tyrogue and it caught him, coursing bolts of lighting through his body. Elekid dashed to the side, dodging Tyrogue's paralysed body as it came crashing down.
"Thunderbolt! Finish it!" Green yelled.
Elekid wound up his arm. His fist sparked, then it glowed and then it became engulfed in yellow flames. Tyrogue stared up at Elekid as he lay on his front, head to the side. His flared with rage but as Elekid stepped forward and pointed, they softened and closed. A powerful thunderbolt cracked through the air, making it rumble. The bolt struck Tyrogue, exploded and sent him flying back towards Green. He landed before Green's feet, unconscious and defeated. The crowd erupted into cheers and Green couldn't help but pump her fist in the air as a rush of excitement coursed through her. No matter how excited she felt, it couldn't hope to compete with how excited Elekid was.
"ELEKID!" He cried as dashed towards her, arms outstretched and tears of joy in his eyes.
He leapt towards her and she caught him. To Green's utter surprise, Elekid embraced her. She hugged him back cautiously and he tightened his embrace.
"Ele-Ele! Ele-Kid! Ele!" He cheered frantically, buzzing in between cheers.
Green laughed and gave him a squeeze.
"I know! Our first win together!"
Elekid looked up at her with wet, beaming eyes.
"ELE! KIIIIIIIIIIID!" His body began to glow white.
Alarmed, Green let go and stepped back thinking he was about to quick attack. But when she let go, he didn't fall. His body stayed in the air, immune to gravity as it pulsed white and began to morph. He grew taller rapidly, becoming something close to her height. His arms grew longer and his hands matched their proportions as well as gaining proper fingers. His body separated from one single unit into a head and a body. His rounded feet grew into short legs and a tail sprouted from his behind. Two antennae with bulbous, spherical ends sprouted from his head. Then abruptly the white light snapped away and he landed on the ground, staring with intense sharp eyes. A huge black lighting bolt was marked out in his thick, yellow fur.
"Electabuzz!" He cried and hopped side to side nimbly.
"You evolved!"
"Buzz!" He grinned with his large mouth that stretched across his big, feline-like head. A single sharp tooth stuck out in each corner.
Green rushed forward and threw her arms around him. Again, he hugged her back but this time squeezed her with a terrifying amount of strength.
"Ah! Stop, stop! Too tight!" Green choked.
Electabuzz let go and clutched the back of his head.
"Buzz…" he grinned sheepishly.
Green giggled then suddenly remembered Tyrogue. She side hopped around Electabuzz and got out a pokéball from the pouch on her belt. Tyrogue's eyes were somehow open again. He gazed up at her with a narrowed dull look. However, unlike before it was weakened and soft. Feeling a twang of guilt, Green threw the pokéball at him. The ball flew forward with the aid of its tiny thrusters and came to a stop before him. It popped open and hit him with a red beam, dematerialising him. The ball snapped shut and fell to the ground. It rocked once, then twice, then three times before clicking and flying back to Green's hand. Green smirked and held the ball up above her head.
"Yes!"
