A favorite gemstone of Ami Mizuno had been sapphire. Sapphires had been transparent precious gemstones typically blue in color in which a sapphire came to mean blue in Greek. These gemstones came in a variety of colors such as blue sapphires, clear sapphires, yellow sapphires, green sapphires, violet sapphires, and pink sapphires, but Ami's favorite kinds of sapphires had been the ones that were blue.
"Do you guys want to know what kinds of jewelry Naru's mother owns at her jewelry store?" Usagi asked Ami, Makoto, Minako, and Rei one day.
"What?" Ami asked.
"Diamonds, emeralds, opals, pearls, rubies, and sapphires," Makoto burst out as all of the girls had been in Naru's mother's jewelry shop before.
"I love diamonds and pearls," Usagi commented.
"I love emeralds," Makoto declared.
"I love rubies, " Rei exclaimed.
"I love topaz," Minako flung in. "What about you, Ami-chan?"
"Sapphires," Ami answered with a smile on her face. "I saw them at the jewelry shop. They are the best gemstones of all if you ask me."
