Pulling back from Dylan when Kate's phone started ringing she sighed
"Sorry.." she pulled it out of her pocket "it's my ex"
"Take it" he assured her
"Mike?" she placed it next to her ear waiting
"Kate can you get down to the hospital?"
"What?"
"Theo's in emergency with Serena I'm on my way there now"
"What the hell happened?"
"I told you I'm on my way there now"
"He should have been with you!" she snapped turning away from Dylan
"I had to run out for a while"
"Which hospital?"
"Mercy"
"I'll meet you there" she huffed hanging up on him
"Everything okay?" Dylan's hand rested on her shoulder
"I'm sorry but I have to go"
"Do you need a lift? I've got my bike"
"I.."
"It's not a problem honestly"
"Thank would be great thank you" she nodded
"Come on" he motioned walking them back towards the carpark.
Walking through the hospital corridor twenty minutes later with Dylan following closely behind Kate looked left and right for any sign of Theo.
Spotting him in a small room with a red-haired woman she ran over entering the room "Mummy!" Theo jumped when she wrapped her in a hug
"Are you okay baby?" she ran a hand across his hair and face when she pulled back his hands stopping on his shoulders when she spotted his left wrist wrapped up in a bandage
"I okay" he nodded
"What happened" she looked back at Serena
"He was playing on the bunk bed and fell, he said his arm was hurting"
"Where was Mike when this happened?"
"He went to the office.." she dropped her head
"Who's that?" Theo looked across at Dylan
"I.."
"G'day little man, I'm your Mums friend" he smiled at him
"You look like that footy player Mum watches on TV"
"Is that so?" he grinned looking at Kate who gave him a awkward smile, looking across his shoulder her smile disappeared when she spotted Mike walking towards them.
Moving around the bed she stopped in the doorway placing a hand on his chest pushing him out "We need to talk"
"I.."
"You said you wanted him over, you said you wanted to spend time with him"
"I do"
"But you went to work!" she pushed him in the chest
"Kate.." he reached out for her
"No" she snapped stepping back "you lied to me and you left our son with a stranger"
"She isn't a stranger"
"To Theo she is!"
"I'm marrying her she will be his stepmother that isn't a stranger"
"You said you wanted to make up for lost time, to spend time with him before he resents you"
"I know"
"I think it's best if I take him home when we're done here"
"I still have one night left with him" he protested
"Sorry.." Dylan interrupted "but Kate your little man is asking for you"
"Whose this" Mike motioned
"Dylan Mulholland" he reached a hand across when Mike didn't take it he stepped back "um.. I'll wait for you outside" he touched Kates back lightly
"Thanks" she forced a smile.
"You brought your boytoy here?" Mike snapped
"This is not a about us, leave him out of this" she pointed a finger, entering back into Theo's room she stopped next to his bed "hey Munchkin how you feeling?"
"My arm hurts" he sniffled when she ran her hand through his hair
"Family of Theo?" a doctor entered the room
"Yes, this is his Mum and I'm his Father" Mike pointed to Kate
"So luckily there's no broken bones it looks like it's just a sprain" he read out of his folder
"That's great" Serena piped up
"Am I able to take him home?" Kate cleared her throat
"Of course, a nurse will come in to properly strap Theo's wrist and will give you a sheet of things you need to do as well as some medication for his pain"
"Thank you"
"I wanna go home with Mummy" Theo shifted in the bed "You don't want to stay your last night with us?" Mike asked sadly standing next to Serena his arm around her waist
"No.." he shook his head
"Okay, why don't you head home and collect Theo's things" he kissed Serena's cheek
"Sure thing" she flashed him a giddy smile before exiting the room
"How's the pain little man?" Mike moved to the opposite side of his bed
"It's okay" he shrugged "I don't like the bunk bed anymore"
"That's okay we can get you another bed"
"No.."
"Buddy.." he reached across
"Mummy I wanna go home" he snuggled into her side
"We'll be home shortly Munchkin" she ran her hand through his hair
"I'll go find out how much longer" Mike cleared his throat stepping away.
"Are you sure you don't want to go stay with Daddy for one more night?" Kate looked down at him when they were alone
"He didn't want to stay" he sniffled "so I don't want to stay"
"Theo.." Kate knelt down so they were face to face "your Daddy loves you, but when work calls he has to answer"
"He said we were going to go fishing, he lied" taking a lance at the doorway she spotted Mike near the door listening in
"Let him make it up to you when you see him on Wednesday"
"Can't I stay with you?"
"Your Daddy deserves to spend time with you too, I know he messed up and made you sad but he loves you don't doubt that okay?"
"I wanna go home, I'm hungry" he ignored her words shifting down in the bed so he was laying down
"I'll be back okay" she kissed his forehead, arising to stand she exited the room.
Walking over to the chairs she sat down next to Mike who was leaning his head back against the wall "Mike.."
"My kid hates me"
"No he dosen't"
"I wasn't there for him, he got hurt because I left to do work instead of getting to spend time with him"
"I'm sorry for what I said before I was just angry I didn't.."
"You were right" he shrugged turning to look at her
"I just want what's best for our Son"
"I'm sorry"
"Give him time, by this time next week he'll forget about it and will be back to annoying you" she reached out placing her hand in his
"I'm gonna go sit with him" he squeezed her hand "you should tell your boyfriend he can go, I'll give you a lift home"
"Dylan's not.."
"It's fine Kate, you allowed to move on I did" he let her hand go and arose to stand "I'm happy for you" he gave a slight smile before walking towards Theo's room.
...
"Hey" Dylan smiled moving off of his bike when he spotted Kate making her way over the wind blowing her hair around
"Hey.."
"How's Theo?"
"He's hungry" she grinned "but he's okay just wants to go home"
"So that's your ex huh"
"Yeah.."
"Told you" he nudged her arm "a douche" his words earned him a laugh
"He has his moments"
"So I take it you're here to tell me to leave?"
"I appreciate you bringing me here but you can't exactly take a kid on a bike"
"No I suppose not"
"I enjoyed the ride, maybe when things calm down we can go for a proper one?"
"I'd like that" he stepped forward, wrapping his arm around her back he pulled her into a hug a smile gracing his lips when he noticed her willingly hugging him back
"Thank you"
"Give me a call when you get home, just so I know your alright"
"Dylan.."
"Hmm?"
"You can let go now"
"Right sorry" he laughed pulling away but keeping his arms around her back "I know this will never be more then a friendship.."
"I'm sorry.."
"It's okay, because one day you'll change your mind and when you do I'll be the first one in line with my hand held out"
"You're a good guy Dylan"
"Ehh, I'm just trying to make up for being a dick when we first met"
"No need" she looked up at him with a smile "but thank you"
Looking into her eyes deeply Dylan reached up a hand brushing a piece of hair behind her ear "When your ready for that ride you let me know" he leaned down placing a kiss on her cheek a little too close to her mouth
"I could take that in so many dirty ways" she grinned
"Take it however you want" he winked, moving fully back he reached for his helmet.
Pulling it on he hopped on his bike, turning it on he gave her one last smile before pulling out from the curb onto the road watching him leave she softly touched her cheek where he'd kissed her Theo running over to her a few minutes later interrupting her thoughts.
