"You all set?" Kate placed a bowl of cut up apple in Theo's lap while he sat on the couch
"Yep" he nodded placing a piece of apple in his mouth
"I'll just be in the kitchen if you need me" she stepped back walking into the kitchen she sat down at the kitchen table where Mike was already sitting. "He's a trooper" Kate assured him
"Yeah I know"
"Seriously he's fine"
"Yeah I know.." he shifted forward "so you and Dylan Mulholland I thought you didn't date footballers anymore"
"We're not dating"
"You two looked pretty cosy earlier"
"He gave me a ride to the hospital that's it"
"Mmhmm" he nodded
"Can't we talk about something else, like why Serena was looking after Theo while you went to the office"
"I know you don't like her"
"I have no problem with her"
"Kate.."
"You said you wanted him there Mike and instead you went into the office, how is he supposed to take that"
"I know but it was an emergency"
"Your son is more important"
"I can't just not work"
"That's not what I'm saying"
"You work harder then me"
"How else am I supposed to live? When you decided to fuck your secretary I needed to support myself and our son"
"That's not.."
"We can't all live in a lavish mansion like you and your precious fiancé" she jumped out of her chair
"Kate" he did the same
"When you left it broke me"
"You told me to leave!"
"Because you cheated on me! I had just had our son and you…" she struggled "you cheated"
"I never meant for it to happen"
"Yeah that's what they all say"
"It was always you but after having Theo you pushed me away"
"So it's my fault now?"
"No"
"I was struggling Mike; I missed my Dad and my Mum I had no support you were working twelve hours everyday the only time you were home was when all the hard work was done"
"I didn't know that"
"Because you never asked me" she sniffled "you never.." she was cut off by his arms wrapping around her pulling her into his chest.
"I'm sorry.." he whispered in a cracked voice, moving back he rested his hands against her face "I messed everything up I hurt the woman I love"
"Mike.."
"I don't know what I'm doing in life Kate, there's so many things I want that I can't have" he ran his thumb across her lower lip
"You should go, I'm sure Serena is wondering where you are"
"Don't push me away"
"I'm not pushing"
"Yes you are"
"No I'm not" she stepped back "I'm keeping myself safe from getting heartbroken again so.. just go please"
"Kate.."
"Your getting remarried Mike, and as happy I am for you it also hurts"
"I.."
"I need you to stop doing this, this" she waved a hand between them "it needs to stay platonic we need to focus on raising Theo and that's it"
"I can't do that" he stepped towards her
"You need to, because Serena is your priority now" she shook her head walking away and dropping next to Theo on the couch who immediately shifted into her lap
"Have you decided anymore about the wedding?" Mike questioned bringing up the one thing I was afraid to
"He can do it" she didn't look at him
"It's next month.. I'll take him for a suit fitting next week"
"Fine"
"Fine" he sighed "I better get going"
"Mmhmm" she hummed, turning around he exited her apartment.
Hearing the door close behind him Kate finally found it in herself to breathe after their confrontation in the kitchen and now him bringing up the wedding everything was becoming too overwhelming looking down at Theo she found herself beginning to feel calmer
"How you feeling Munchkin?" she ran her hand continusely through his blonde curls
"I'm okay but can we watch SpongeBob?" he turned his head to look at her
"You don't want to watch Thomas anymore?"
"No, I like SpongeBob he makes me laugh and if he makes me laugh maybe he'll make you laugh"
"Theo.."
"You need to laugh Mummy"
"Why do you say that?" she gave him a sad look
"Because your sad, I can see it in your eyes"
"I'm just worried about you that's all"
"I'm okay, I promise" he reached a hand up brushing his hand across her cheek "don't be sad Mummy" forcing back a small sob that she could feel forming in her throat Kate reached next to her for the remote
"SpongeBob it is" she changed the channel, Theo's hand removing from her cheek when he turned to face the TV.
