A Month Later-
"Nice place" Dylan looked around when he entered her apartment, after getting a call from her just before six he'd dropped his weights had a shower and rode his bike over to her apartment.
Since there night dancing at the club and coffee the next Dylan had become a huge support for Kate, having coffee once a week hanging out any chance they got.
Dylan falling more and more for her every day and unknown to him Kate was falling too, Theo had become Dylan's little follower even begging him to show his how to play football to which Kate had protested saying he was 'too young' but he knew her real argument.
When she'd called her voice had sounded different over the phone when she'd asked if he wanted to come over and hang out but he didn't question it because it was what they'd normally do, until she opened the door and he saw the tired look behind her eyes.
"It works" she shrugged closing the door behind him
"So what's going on?"
"You want a beer? Or I have wine, tequila too" she opened the fridge ignoring his question
"Kate, what's going on?" he placed a hand on her shoulder, moving her away from the fridge
"I need a favour, a huge favour one we're I'd probably owe you for a lifetime"
"Okay?"
"I need you to be my date"
"Your date?"
"My pretend Boyfriend, for a wedding this weekend"
"Your ex's?"
"I don't wanna go to this alone, I need someone on my side someone who isn't his friend"
"You barely know me"
"But I trust you"
"Are you sure it's wise I mean I'm all for going to a wedding but pretending to be your boyfriend"
"I need to prove that I've moved on"
"To him or yourself?" he sighed
"Dylan.."
"You know how I feel about you, pretending it's just adding salt to the already open wound"
"I.." she took a step away from him "I'm sorry I shouldn't have.."
"I just don't know if.."
"Your right" she nodded moving around him she opened the freezer pulling a bottle of tequila out
"Where's Theo?" he looked around for any sign of him
"With his Dad, he thought it was best seeing as he's the ring bearer at his wedding in two days" she poured a shot sculling it
"I think you should slow down"
"No, no I don't think I should" she took another shaking her head as it burned down her throat
"What's with you today"
"If you have to ask then you really don't know me" she ignored the glass lifting the bottle to her lips it spilt down her chin when Dylan snatched it away
"Enough" he sighed watching when he tongue poked out to lick her lips, her hand wiping her chin
"I'm going to give you a little piece of advice"
"Your going to give me advice?"
"Yes"
"This should be good" he laughed
"I have this thing you see" she waved her hands walking around the bench
"I don't really like it when someone takes my alcohol so I'm giving you a fair warning now, you might want to give it back before something happens"
"I'm not giving it back"
"I swear to god if you don't.."
"I'm not going to watch you drown your sorrows"
"Give me the bottle Dylan" she crossed her arms stopping across from him
"No"
"Give me the damn bottle" she stepped forward reaching a hand for it he pulled his back
"You don't need it" he looked down at her holding the bottle above his head
"I have had a shit day and I need to let loose give me the bottle"
"No"
"Ugh you suck" she groaned pushing past him towards the bedroom.
Placing the bottle on the bench Dylan moved around it to grab a glass off the sink rack, filling it with some cold water he followed after her his heart breaking when he stopped in the doorway to see Kate laying in her bed hugging her pillow
"Drink this" he sat near her feet holding out the glass
"I'm not thirsty"
"Just humour me" he patted her leg, shifting to sit up she took the glass from him taking a sip before placing it on the bedside table.
Laying back down she turned away from him, shaking his head he kicked off his shoes and climbed over her to lay on the right side of the bed pulling the free pillow under his head he laid sideways facing her his hand instinctively reaching across and brushing through her hair
"What's going on" he slid closer their faces inches in front of each other's
"Nothing" her tear-filled eyes met his
"Is this about Mike?"
"It just hurts, he's marrying the woman he cheated on me with I don't want to sit in that church and witness there love not after everything"
"Kate.."
"I'm not in love with him that's not what this is its just.."
"Not how you expected your life to go"
"How am I supposed to explain this all to Theo? he dosen't understand why his Mum and Dad aren't together like all of his friends parents"
"He's two, you don't need to explain anything to him all he will care about is that his Mum and Dad love him both equally"
"I'm pretty sure I love him more" she forced a smile
"I know you do"
"I'm sorry about before.." she placed her hand against his chest "asking you to be my pretend Boyfriend it wasn't fair"
"I'll do it I just.. you know how I feel about you"
"I know"
"If I agree to do it there's one condition"
"Am I going to like this?"
"I get to hold your hand"
"That's it?"
"Well.. I was going to say I get to kiss you whenever I want while we're there but I'm not exactly sure I'd be able to control myself if I did.."
"You don't think you'd have self-control"
"I know I won't" he shifted on his elbow resting his head in his hand he looked down at her "one day when your ready I'll be here with my arms open but for now I guess being your pretend boyfriend is as close as I'm going to get"
"Thank you"
"Your welcome"
"Now get out of my bed" she laughed pushing against his chest when she turned moving out of the bed herself
"You hungry for some pizza?" he raised an eyebrow looking across the bed at her while straitening his shirt
"Sounds good" she smiled watching him exit the bedroom, biting her lip she watched him walk away her eyes traveling to his ass that looked great in his jeans.
