Knocking on her door a little before lunch the next day Mike awkwardly pushed his hands in his pocket as the door flew open his expression changing to confusion when he saw Dylan standing on the other side
"Mike.." Dylan cleared his throat
"Ah.. is Kate here?"
"She went to get lunch with Theo, did you.. did you want to come in?" he stepped aside
"Any idea how long she'll be?" he stepped inside, Dylan closing the door behind him
"I'm not sure, she mentioned something about taking Theo to the park first"
"Right.."
"Is there anything I can help with?"
"I just wanted to talk to her about a few things, but I can just come back later"
"Look I know we don't know each other but I'm happy to listen" Dylan shrugged "if you wanna get whatever it is off your chest"
"I.." sighing he took up a seat at the kitchen table and ran his hand through his hair, "I'm in deep man, at this point I don't think anything is going to help"
"Is this about Serena and the Pregnancy?" Dylan sat across from him
"What have you heard?"
"Not much, just that your Mother told Kate about the Marriage being a sham"
"Yeah.." Mike huffed "the baby might not even be mine, Serena went out with a bunch of her friends and slept with someone from the club"
"How far along is she?"
"Two months"
"Is there anyway you can find out for sure?"
"It dosen't matter, the marriage it's for her own convenance so her Daddy lets her have her trust fund when she turns twenty-one"
"I don't understand?"
"If she wants her inheritance a part of the deal is she needs to be Married for a year, the baby wasn't planned let me tell you now"
"I don't get why your even helping her if you get nothing in return" Dylan shrugged
"Because I screwed up in life and I don't want to make that mistake twice"
"Did you ever love her?"
"Serena?"
"No, Kate"
"Of course I did, I always will but it's hard to make someone love you back when their heart belongs to someone else" he picked at a loose bit of thread of the tablecloth
"You mean Pete?"
"She told you about Pete?" he asked in surprise
"Yeah, it was a few weeks after we met"
"She never talked about him, not a year after not even two"
"I think she feels guilty, moving on with you when she still missed Pete.."
"Your wasting your time with her Dylan, she'll never give you her whole heart"
"We'll see" Dylan tapped his fingers on the table
"Look I'm gonna head out, let's just forget I was here" Mike sighed, arising to stand he fixed his jacket just as the front door opened and Kate stepped in with her arms full of bags
"Daddy!" Theo spotted him first
"Mike? What.. what are you doing here?" she looked back and forth between Mike and Dylan
"I was just heading out" he ruffled Theo's hair
"Your not staying?" Theo gave his Dad the sad eyes
"Maybe another time little man"
"But.."
"Another time Buddy I gotta head to work"
"Okay.." he sighed exiting the kitchen
"Your not staying?" Kate placed the bags down on the kitchen bench
"Just came to see Dylan"
"Right.."
"So I'll ah.." he moved to the door opening it "I'll catch you later" he made a quick exit.
"Why was he here?" Kate turned to look at Dylan in confusion
"Just a friendly visit"
"Seriously?"
"Mm-hmm" he shifted out of his chair, kissing her cheek he grabbed the bag that had the food in it for lunch
"Is there something you're not telling me?"
"Nope everything's peachy keen"
"Sure.." she crossed her arms watching him enter the lounge and unpacking the food on the coffee table, Theo eagerly crawling over to the table when he spotted the chips.
