Minor edit made to the first chapter. nothing too major, just some phrasing stuff. Anyway: short chapter.
The sun reflected off the airships' exterior hulls, causing them to shine and temporarily blind people walking or driving by. Thankfully, the boarding docks were spared, but only if one stayed away from the edges. All around the boarding decks were families, couples, friends, and some just by themselves getting ready and waiting to board the airships. It was a dull roar of the crowd of people that rang out in the area, voices overlapping and sometimes someone shouting above the din being heard but not understood.
It was here Alec stood, helping his friend prep: "Got your sleeping bag?"
"Yup."
"Onesie?"
"Yup."
"Meds?"
A hand slapped to its owner's pocket- "No."
Alec pulled out a bottle, "Thought so; here it is. Make sure to take it with water and eat something after. Don't want you to throw up and ruin a girl's shoes."
Jaune rolled his eyes, "Yeah, yeah. I'll make sure to take it right after I get on."
They stood in companionable silence before Jaune broke it, "Thanks for taking care of me these past few months; I know I've said it more times than I've not, but I'll say it again: Thanks for letting me stay at your apartment and live there when I was lost."
Alec gave out a small chuckle, "And as I've always said, it's no problem, I'm always willing to help someone in need- even if I don't know them all too well."
An intercom crackled to life and said, "Beacon airships are now boarding."
"Well, I'll be seeing you, Jaune. Take care while you're at Beacon; and make some more friends while you're at it."
"I'll be sure to. Thanks again, Alec." Jaune stuck out his hand and Alec grasped it, before pulling Jaune into a one-armed hug, which Jaune returned.
Letting go of Jaune, Alec said, "Well, better get going before you're late."
"Right," Jaune nodded, and grabbed his things before looking back at Alec, "See ya!"
"Farewell for now, Jaune!" Alec replied, holding up a hand, lowering it once Jaune was out of sight.
He stood there with the other people, still waving and calling out, watching the airships lift off. Faintly, he could somehow hear the pattering of feet against concrete coming closer to him. The sound skidded to a stop- literally, there was a skidding sound- and curse paired with a stomp.
He blinked slowly and looked behind, and lo and behold, the woman from the other night was standing right behind him, looking frustrated with herself. Alec drawled out, "Miss a family member going off to Beacon, I presume?"
Snapped out of her thoughts, she looked up at him, and said, "What? No. No- wait, are you-?"
"Yup. It appears Fate wishes for us to meet. Not that I wish it so."
"W-well, what are you doing here? I thought that you were trying to stay out of canon."
Alec raised an eyebrow, "Where did you get that idea?" she stuttered out her reply, but Alec cut her off, "No, I am simply here to see a short-term resident of my apartment leave off to Beacon. Now, if you'll excuse me, I have places to be."
"Wha- buh- you're just gonna leave?!"
"Yes? What did you get from the words 'I have places to be' that mean I'm going to stay here?" he sighed. "In any case, I'm just going to stay home and continue working. Bye, strange woman."
"My name's Kira, and you don't get to walk off like that!" she shouted, pointing at Alec, who was now walking away.
"Yes, I do. I'm doing it right now."
"Come back here!" Kira yelled, as she ran towards Alec.
"Why come to you when you come to me?"
She growled audibly- similar to a cat's growl, if you knew what a cat growl sounded like- and her eye twitched. She moved in front of Alec, bringing him to a halt. Notably on top of a bridge. "Alright. Enough games." She was glaring quite menacingly. For a four-foot-tall woman.
"I wasn't playing any-" Alec started.
"Shut," Kira interrupted. Alec put his hands up in surrender, then waved towards Kira to signal she had the stage. "Now. Who are you, and what do you want to do?"
Alec sighed. "I am Alec Silver, and I simply want to live my life safely away from the Grimm."
"I have no response to that," Kira stated, still glaring at Alec.
"As you should. Now, can I please go back to my home? This is my day off and I don't want it to be wasted by being accosted and questioned by a random woman."
"Grr. Fine. Bye."
"Goodbye, Kira." Alec walked around her, giving her a little wave.
As he walked off, Kira lost all the tension in her body and slumped against the bridge's railings. "He was telling the truth the entire time. Except. Except for his name… why would he lie about his name?" she muttered confusedly. She shook her head. "No, enough of that." She slapped her cheeks. "I missed the airships, but what else can I do? Errg, I hate not knowing things." She racked her brain for a few moments- "That's right! Torchwick is stealing Dust, so I can try and foil that!"
Kira scampered off towards… somewhere. She gets lost easily.
