What If… Stewie Helped Strange?
A Family Guy/MCU crossover fanfic
by DecaTilde
One choice, one moment, can ripple across space and time, creating whole universes. But add one life to that equation…
Dr. Stephen Strange, who had become corrupted and misguided after losing his love, Christine Palmer, had recently brought her back using the Eye of Agamotto. But in doing so, he unknowingly caused his home universe to go unstable. Using his magic, he attempted to stop his universe from collapsing. In the process, he sensed a presence.
"You! You can stop this." He had sensed the presence of Uatu the Watcher. "Please, fix this."
"The same way you fixed Christine?" the Watcher replied.
"What?" Christine gasped.
Strange saw that Christine was also becoming undone, and realized that he caused his universe to collapse.
"I was wrong. I…"
"You were warned," the Watcher replied.
"I know," Strange rued. "But the world! The world shouldn't pay for my arrogance. I read about you, sensed your presence. You're a god. You can undo this."
"I'm not a god," the Watcher replied, "and neither are you."
"Then punish me," Strange sobbed. "Not the world. Not Christine."
The Watcher could do nothing but show pity on him.
"Honestly," he began, "if I could fix this, if I could punish you instead, I would. But I can't interfere. You, more than anyone else, should understand that meddling with time and events only leads to more destruction."
And with that, he turned away, leaving Strange and Christine.
"No," Strange sobbed. "Noooo! I didn't mean for this to happen!"
He did his best, but it was no use. The universe collapsed, and Strange preserved himself and a fading away Christine inside a glass dome. He held Christine in his arms.
"Christine," he cried, "I'm sorry."
"Stephen," Christine gasped. "What did you do?"
And with those last four words, she faded completely. In an instant, a guilty Strange became the sole survivor, and indirect destroyer, of his universe.
"No, no, no, no, no."
Grieving, he was left to serve penitence in what was left of his universe.
"I'm sorry. I am so, so sorry."
…and it can also destroy a whole universe.
Chapter 1 - A Strange Visitor
While Strange grieved over the loss of Christine, and realizing that he could never go home, a spark of light shone before him. He looked up as more sparks shone. The sparks formed, and from the light came a football-headed baby wearing a yellow shirt, red overalls and baby blue shoes.
"A baby?" Strange said in surprise. "But I thought I just destroyed the whole universe."
"Not from this universe, actually," the baby replied in a British accent.
"What?"
Well, this is a mighty fine predicament.
After scouring around with the tracking software on his Multiverse remote, Stewie Griffin had stumbled upon a recently-destroyed universe—the one Stephen Strange had just destroyed. Only, it was Stewie's choice that created a universe similar to Steven Strange's. And with that, he decided to travel to that universe, and comfort the universe's sole survivor. Little did he know about the side effect.
"So, you're saying that you can travel across the Multiverse with that remote control of yours, Stewie?" asked Strange.
Some minutes have passed since Stewie's arrival.
"Yes, Stephen," Stewie nodded. "In fact, there are an infinite number of universes that are parallel to this one, that coexist on dimensional planes. In each of these alternate universes, the reality is different from our own realities. Sometimes only slightly, sometimes quite radically. The point is, every possible eventuality exists."
"Amazing," Strange replied, impressed. Just then, his right hand temporarily changed to tentacles.
"Not to worry, Stephen," Stewie assured. "I have the cure for your convulsions. A little something from Japan."
With that, he placed an ofuda on Strange's back.
"Rin, Pyō, Tō, Sha, Kai, Jin, Retsu, Zai, Zen!" he chanted.
In an instant, Strange's hand returned to its original form.
"Impressive," Strange complimented. "Perhaps you can take me on a tour?"
"I'd be more than happy to, Stephen."
Stewie pressed the big red button on his remote. Some time had passed. Nothing. Stewie pressed again. Still nothing. He turned the remote over and opened the battery compartment
"Uh-oh," he gulped.
"What?" Strange replied.
"The batteries have run out."
"Oh. So that means you're stuck here with me."
"Yup. Get comfortable, Strange, because you won't be alone." Stewie then smiled. "In the meantime, we can share some nice stories together."
"Great," Strange said, unimpressed.
With no fresh batteries, Stewie was unable to even return to his home universe, and would remain stuck with Stephen Strange for a long time.
