Ron was nervous about what he needed to do but he knew he wouldn't feel right unless he did it. He took a deep and calming breath and walked towards the Slytherin table. Malfoy sneered deeply at him but he ignored the boy this wasn't after all why he was here. He approached Tom and gently cleared his throat as Tom looked up at him from his seat at the breakfast table. "Hello Tom my name is Ronald Weasley from Gryffindor and I'd like us to be friends if we could!" he said as Tom went to respond but Draco got there first.
"Oh sod off Weasel no one wants you around. Why don't you go home and kiss the muggles stuff like daddy does!" he sneered as Tom rounded on him.
"Mr Malfoy I think you would benefit from a trip to Madam Pomfrey to have your ears checked as you must be going deaf. He said Tom and unless you've suddenly changed your name to Tom without telling me I would kindly advise you to think of what you say before you say it and shut up!" he said seriously although to anyone else it looked merely as though they were having a conversation.
"Can we please speak in private for a moment as we need to talk?!" Ron then asked looked even more nervous.
"Wait for one moment please. Professor Snape I am in need of somewhere to have a private conversation with Mr Weasley somewhere Mr Malfoy may not embarrass himself as he usually does. I am sorry about him by the way we'll have to get him a leash like they do for a dog!" he said to Ron who burst out laughing. Tom was indeed funny.
"Yes right this way gentlemen. In this room here you'll find privacy. When you open the door and leave again the charm automatically cancels itself out!" he said kindly before leaving. Once they were seated in the seats at the desk in the room Ron turned to Tom looking exceptionally nervous.
"Um I said we needed to talk because I'd really like to be your friend but Professor Dumbledore called me to his office and asked me to spy on you for him which I'm not happy about. Mum has now barred him from calling any of us to his office ever again which I am relieved about. I just wanted you to know I won't be spying on you and would like to be your friend because I want to and not because I am told I should be! I just feel honesty is the best policy and you should know what he is asking other people to do. Miss Granger was asked to spy on you too and said she would do so" he said as Tom gasped having not seen that coming. He had honestly no idea of what he needed to tell him but did seriously appreciate the honesty.
"I really appreciate you being upfront with me. It is my aim to have friends in all houses and I'd be delighted to be your friend Ron. I will have friends from Ravenclaw and Hufflepuff too so hopefully that doesn't bother you too much. I will have them all sitting with me at the Slytherin table or I will sit at their tables with no problems. I know it's not against the rules and those in my house will learn to not say anything to me about it!" he said as Ron smiled and shook his hand.
"Yes that's fine with me. I'd really like to have friends in all other houses too. My mum has told me that ninety percent of Slytherin is good too so hopefully I can have a nice friend there too. Mr Malfoy is very harsh though so I'm not sure I'd like to be his friend to be honest. Miss Granger is a bit scary too!" he said as Tom nodded.
"As for Miss Granger she's a bit dim and hasn't yet realised I'll never be her friend no matter what she does or tries to do. I am already aware that she has a house elf she asks to spy on me. I have an elf too. Lolly! This here is my new friend Ronald Weasley!" he said as she popped in smiling brightly at him.
"Oh Mr Ronnie Wheezy we know all about you. You are wonderful. He gave his elf such a pretty dress and bow!" she enthused as Tom felt his eyebrows raise.
"I didn't know you had an elf but it's all good. Now as Mr Malfoy is such an idiot I am also going to be his friend if only to show him how his betters like us behave. He needs to learn now because the world out there is very tough indeed. If he doesn't learn to behave in school he'll never learn. Quite frankly he's a jackass and I'm tired of it. He's been telling everyone you don't have your own wand or pet. Surely he was joking?!" he asked carefully as Ron exhaled loudly.
"That's not true I have my own wand and I'm getting my own pet soon. I'm getting a Russian blue cat because they're gorgeous. Do you have pets?" he asked as Tom smiled.
"Yes I have Demios my black owl and Flora my own Russian Blue cat. To be honest it's a great choice for you. They're so beautiful. I do think blue cats are the fanciest ones. I mean Miss Bones has one and hers is gorgeous too. Flora is always on my bed. In fact she's a bit lazy but the only reason I have two of them is because they both became my familiars at the shop. Maybe you can get a familiar too. It should come as no surprise to you that Malfoy has a huge eagle owl. It's like he lives to be a peacock or something!" he said as Ron laughed once more.
"That's wonderful. Shelly! This here is Tom Potter my new friend!" he said introducing his elf whom Tom saw his eyebrows raising higher and higher.
"Well aren't you gorgeous Miss Shelly. You are a credit to Ron. He's a lovely young boy and it's an honour to meet you!" he said as she blushed deeply at his praises.
"Yes I be looking after Ronnie Wheezy. Hurt him and I be hurting you badly. Have a nice day gentlemen!" she said bowing once and leaving.
"What a charming elf. Lolly! Miss Hermione Granger as you know has gotten herself an elf please insure that you tell Shelly to be looking after Ronald and please give her the lessons I gave you for better English. Actually now that you are here I do have question for you. Is it possible for you elves to teach us your lords how to get around like you do. You know that floos and I don't go well together although I am getting much better at it" he said as Lolly looked genuinely stumped.
"We normally just know how to do it sir. I will see if I can! Shelly! Please help your Ronnie Wheezy to pop like we do if you can" she said closing her eyes a glow encompassing the four of them momentarily as she and Shelly passed on their abilities to the two stunned men. When it faded they both looked a little different. Tom's eyes and hair were one shade darker whereas Ron had grown one whole inch and had darker red hair. His clothing had all grown with him too. He thought of where he wanted to go and suddenly he landed neatly on the other side of the room. He and Tom practised that a few times before smiling. Tom thought he wanted to go to the fifth floor and ended up there hassle free before popping silently back into the room. When he thought he didn't wish to be seen he faded from view as all house elves can. It was an amazing skill to have. Ron himself thought about popping home for a moment and was gone. Molly screamed as he appeared in the kitchen beside her startling her greatly.
"Hi mum I got a house elf gift so I can travel anywhere easily now without getting sick as I usually do with the floo each time I use it. I just decided to test it out and pop home to see you. If you like in the future I may even be able to pop you places effortlessly but I'm not sure about that now. I must get back to school now but now that I know I can do this I'll be sure to be home more to see you for a few minutes whenever I can. I've made friends with Tom Potter and he's so cool. He might even be able to visit over the summer I hope. I love you!" he said as she proclaimed her love for her son pulling him close and kissing his forehead.
"I love you so much Ron. I'm so very proud of you. Tell your elf thank you for giving you this new gift. This gift is special indeed but you are only to use it when you really feel it's necessary. No using it to get out of classes either young man. I'm happy you're friends with Tom Potter and that he's so lovely. Go on now off with ya!" she said kissing him once more with a giggle as he left again. Seeing him even if just for a moment was amazing. He had looked a little different but it wasn't overly noticeable. Tom had gone to Diagon Alley and Hogsmeade Village and back in the time that Ron had been gone and had decided on his next punishment for Lucius. Either he behaved and did as he was told forcing Draco to behave himself instead of acting like a spoilt pureblood bigot or Draco would end up somewhere likely a muggle holiday destination. He was so sick of Draco judging everyone. He would be the best damn Slytherin there ever was who was not only top of his year in everything but friend to everyone no matter their blood status. He would show everyone how great Slytherin could be and how awful it had been before. What a morning it had been. As Ron popped back in they shared a slight hug feeling closer due to the gift their house elves had given them. What's more Hermione's house elf couldn't tell they had it either. No other house elf could. They now shared a unique bond and felt great. Next lesson was potions and he was looking forward to it immensely.
