She was at home actually on her way out the door when the letter arrived. She saw the wax seal on the back and looked confused. Why would they be writing to her? Was something really wrong? She sure hoped not as she really didn't need this right now. She re-entered the house and took her coat back off placing it on the end of the stairs for a moment. She walked into kitchen and sat down to read it. It read:
We here at the Board of Governors have been having a discussion with Minerva McGonagall who cannot do her job properly as too much responsibility has been placed on her shoulders and we all agree a new vice headmistress is in order. No one would be able to do all she has been asked to do as their heads would explode and it is for this reason she has resigned her vice headmistress role. Minerva recommended you and while we went through your school profile we could see what she meant. To be honest we'd be honoured to have you as our new vice headmistress. We are updating what that position now entails and we will list out what you will be required to deal with if you accept the role. Albus Dumbledore to be quite honest has always been very good at his job but very bad at hiring people and so that will now rest solely on your shoulders. You may choose whoever you see fit for whichever role it is and he may not complain about it unless he wishes to bring it before us and we doubt he would do that because he would look very silly if he did. Besides which if he did he'd have to actually have proof which proves you have chosen a teacher which is not suitable and although he may not like your choice we doubt he'd actually do that.
To be frank he has enough to be getting on with and doesn't have the time to be worried about things like that despite his own thoughts on the matter. He has a school to run and the day to day running of that should come first for him. We will be allotting a budget of thirty five thousand galleons to you to use to fix anything within the school you think needs to be fixed. The reason the budget is so high is to get you to work within the constraints of a budget and so Albus will stop telling everyone who asks that he doesn't have a budget because he doesn't have a clue what his school actually needs. He doesn't have the time to figure that out so that will be your job to do. We have heard bizarre rumours that Professor Binns stills teaches there and every time we have asked Albus about it we somehow end up talking about other things and he's forgotten which we can no longer ignore. I really do hope that this was someone's idea of a practical joke and that he's not seriously there given that he died about twenty seven years ago.
We do know that the school brooms all need to be updated and for fairness we would recommend the cleansweep eleven so everyone can have an equal chance at succeeding in their flying lessons. Also the DADA classroom has been rumoured to be haunted or cursed by you know who in some way, we are not sure which. They are saying he cursed the position and whether true or not we are stunned Albus did not take it seriously and look into it. I don't have to tell you that you know who is no laughing matter and we are most disappointed he dismissed it as a joke when he heard about it. That room needs to be investigated at once. Also something Albus doesn't seem to understand is that rules are there to be followed by everyone. He needs to be an example to the students and be sure he is always following the rules as well. I am sure he doesn't personally break them but this everyone deserves a second chance but let's really give them five thing he has going on sends the wrong kind of message and one we don't want to send to everyone. Whether he actually sees that is really not the point either. Students write to us with complaints they may have as this is what we are here for amongst other things of course. They have complained about Argus Filch and Rubeus Hagrid and we don't know what to think. Rubeus is very gentle and exceptionally misguided because no one has laid down the law where he is concerned.
We feel he needs to be taught health and safety at once. He needs to understand why something might be safer then something else and so on. No one has ever taken the time to tell him this and it has resulted in him owning very dangerous pets or should we say what he calls pets. His "pets" are actually very dangerous animals which are loyal to him and for that reason alone he considers them to be safe. He doesn't see that they are not loyal to anyone else and could seriously harm others if they found them without his presence. We can no longer let this go on without repercussions. I am afraid he will have to either say goodbye to his dangerous animals or get another job it really is as simple as that. He'll be asked which matters most to him and then he will be expected to make the choice. Personally we all hope he chooses the right one for him as he truly is a wonderful groundskeeper.
Argus was hired many moons ago because we were caught in a pinch. Being that he is a squib it meant he could be around magic constantly just that he wouldn't be able to use it. It has become clear that being around something he cannot use for so long has turned him into a bitter and creepy lecherous old codger. We have received various recording crystals from students showing not only his conduct but how he speaks and it is vile to say the least. The fact that he not only misses extreme corporal punishment but constantly says this to students who get detention with him is worrying indeed. He will be given one chance. No one is to have detention with him at any point in the future going forward and if he amends his attitude he may keep his job. If he does not I don't have to tell you he will be fired. If Hogwarts needs more elves then we can arrange it so he will not be missed and his duties may be picked up by the new elves.
Your job will be all about administration in relation solely to new first years who enter the school and everything related to that. You will have your own special office and things should only ever be taken to the headmaster in extreme cases and not because he says so. We know he is far too fond of everything being taken to him solely but that ends now. We can have no more dismissals of awful behaviour any longer. Also as we know you follow the rules to the letter we know we can trust you to suspend or expel students accordingly without feeling like you need to run to Albus for approval every five minutes (you don't). We like Albus a great deal actually but we know he is not capable of expelling students who do need it. I understand how bad it looks to have an expelled student from Hogwarts but some students do need to be expelled and not expelling them is a crime in itself.
We expect you to read the rules and amend them where necessary before showing them to us. We will read your changes if any and agree on them. Anyone on the board who does not agree with those changes will have to provide a logical reason as to why they don't agree. If they cannot do so in a timely manner they will be ignored. We have been faced with an issue we never thought would be a problem but suffice it to say all of our members will be swearing an oath that we have never willingly served the dark lord and anyone who dies because they are lying is not our problem. We have heard of people in other places who have supported the dark lord causing problems and not on our turf we assure you. You will also be required to take that oath although I think we all know you have never served him. In fact it would be a massive surprise if you had.
You are just the type of no nonsense woman we need to be the vice headmistress of Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. You, we feel, will keep the students and Albus in line making sure all rules are followed by everyone no matter blood type or position. That doesn't matter to us and it never has. Those that think it's a problem are the problem themselves and we can say no more on the matter. All teachers need to be seen to follow the rules they tell the students to follow otherwise it doesn't work and I don't feel some teachers get that but they will with you at the helm. She finished reading the letter as her husband walked in the room bending down to give her a searing kiss which still made her toes curl all these years later. "I got this letter just as I was on the way out sweetheart. Read it and tell me what you think of it!" she said handing him the letter. He took and read it chuckling at the end.
"It's not wrong darling you are the best and would be perfect for the job. Are you going to take it? You know you should. Also having a secret tryst in your rooms at Hogwarts would be kind of hot!" he said as she giggled saying he should behave himself and told him she was going to accept. Hogwarts had better watch out because it was in for the change of a lifetime.
