Both of the girls bore their teeth and fangs at each other, both of their eyes were glowing. Elizabeth's for excitement and Katrina's for rage. Katrina made the first move and formed two short bone rush rods. Elizabeth ran toward Katrina dodging her furious attacks. All grace and composure was gone from her fighting style. It was all brute force behind each attack that missed Elizabeth and cracked the walls and floor.
I saw the sisters look at each other with more and more concern for what was happening. Pieces of the ceiling began breaking off and fell to the ground. I saw the sisters crowd around the espeon. The glow from her gem glowed brighter and brighter. I could see the struggle she was having.
Katrina was knocked to the ground with a simple attack. She grabbed her head and rolled on the ground roaring in pain and distress. As the espeon said with sweat drenching the floor as she struggled to control the fighting. I heard thumping next to me as Zeina and Carter collapsed to the floor. I struggled to crawl to the them, but my beating heart calmed a little as I felt air enter and leave their lungs with ease.
"Sister, I can't hold her down for too long. Please, finish this." I heard the espeon plead as she began to slowly lower to the cave floor.
I only heard a cackling laugh for a response as Elizabeth only charged forward and bit into Katrina's shoulder. Not a finishing move, but something that would only irritate her more. Katrina ripped her off and continued fighting, causing the cave to decay further and further until I could see faint glimmers of sunlight through the ceiling. We weren't too far underground, but the large cracks in the ceiling would turn into crushing rocks if we didn't leave soon.
Both Katrina and Elizabeth were panting from the fight. Elizabeth's head and front paw were covered in her dark blood. Katrina's left shoulder was covered and blood, causing her arm to be limp and almost useless in the fight, but neither of them looked like they were done with the fight.
"Sister, please. Let us leave and not be crushed. Let these untaught fools be buried with the others and the diglets" One of the sisters pleaded.
"Don't talk to me about retreating from such a beautiful specimen. We must take them back with us and have him show them their true power, but first to tame the true beast of their party" Elizabeth responded.
"Please sister. I am not sure I can keep this-" The espeon said as her gem began glowing once more, causing Katrina to shake her head again. Katrina locked onto the espeon and slammed a metal spike right into her gem. The sound of glass breaking muddled by a female scream rang through the collapsing cave.
Everyone froze as the espeon fell to the ground, the sisters staring at both Katrina and their fallen sisters. I felt the coldness of her aura die away as an invisible wind took it form her body. Katrina shook her head one more time before focusing her attention again on her first target.
Elizabeth's smile had finally disappeared. Her own rage had taken over as she yelled and screamed. The sisters looked like they recognized something and quickly ran for the exit of the cave. I looked over and saw Elizabeth glowing. Her muscles flexed and relaxed quickly as she charged up a final attack.
She charged forward with a glowing aura around her and slammed into Katrina, sending both of them into the cave wall. This was the last straw for the cave. The ceiling began to rumble and fall in bigger chunks. I quickly pulled Zeina and Carter from the falling rocks, but their wasn't a very safe place to leave them as the cave fell apart. I looked up and saw Elizabeth fall to the ground passed out or dead. I couldn't check before Katrina turned to me, blood around her lips and eyes slowly turning darker and darker.
She reached down and grabbed me by the neck to slowly stop the air from entering my lungs. I tried to rip her fingers open, but her strength was greater than my own. My paws searched around for something to loosen her grip and I felt something something metal tap against my own metal spike. I turned my eyes and saw the black and red pin on my red handkerchief. It must've fallen off when I transformed. I grabbed it and slammed the pin behind Katrina's elbow which loosened her grip enough for me to snap free and spin behind her to put her in my own choke hold with the red neckerchief muffling her mouth as she thrashed violently to be freed.
"Please come back. You said that we wear the same color because we are a team. Aren't we teammates? Teammates don't leave each other behind so please don't leave me Katrina. Come back please.
I felt her slow down from thrashing and squirming to a whimper and a cry. I let her fall into my arms and saw the dark leave her eyes. A larger flash with the same warm aura flashed in front of me as Katrina returned to her normal form. The cuff link with the orange stone fell off her arm and she collapsed into my arms.
The glow from her red pupils faded slowly back to their beautiful violet hue. She was back. She tried to mouth words, but she couldn't keep her eyes open long enough to say anything. I felt more and more rocks fall onto us and felt a heat surge through my muscles, ridding the pain from them as I felt my muscles lurch forward and attack to get my friends together near me. I felt the same feeling of my muscles growing and expanding as the monster surfaced from my mind to curl around my friend and stop and more rocks as the cave collapsed on us.
The sunlight slowly faded away as the rocks covered us, but as the monster felt no more falling from the rocks. One last roar for an undeserving victory left the beast as he lifted the rocks off and cleared the way out for us to leave the ruins of the battle and the cave. A small trickle of water fell down the rocks to begin washing away the new scar in the forest. I felt the strength leave me as I fell into my own body into the the small puddle forming under my friends.
"Prrrrroooooottteeeect" the monster said to me as I stared at it in my own reflection before fading into a regular reflection of myself.
"Thank you." I thought as I crawled over to Katrina and the others as they rested. I felt weak and antes to sleep myself but I was too afraid to not watch them.
It felt like hours before someone stirred. Zeina was the first to moan awake. Like a child not wanting to get out of bed. She rubbed her eyes and opened them to see the carnage that we laid in. With only a few seconds to process the surroundings as she began to worry.
"What the?!"
I only nodded my head in a response to her frantic look.
"Is it over?"
"I don't know."
Carter began to grown as he rolled around. Zeina smacked his stomach to wake him.
"I was having a weird dream about this fog-" Carter stopped as he realized how much of his dream was a reality.
"What happened?!?!?!?!" Carter yelled as he bolted around the collapsed cave screaming and yelling at the carnage.
He went silent just as quickly as his outburst started. His ears were twitching and shifting back and forth. He ran back to us with a trail of dirt and dust.
"Guys, there are others lost under the ground! We gotta find them and help them!" Carter yelled at us.
I looked at Zeina and thought of the villagers that were taken and were the reason why we were there in the first place. I tried to stand , but my muscles only aloud for me to stumble about and stay holding Katrina as she slept. Zeina nodded and stood to join Carter with the search for those that were stuck in the caves.
Carter and Zeina brought us out of the rubble and leaned Katrina and I against a nearby tree before leaving to search for the kidnapped villagers. This left the sleepy Katrina and I time to recover from the battle that we had with the cackling eevee, Elizabeth. Her cackle still haunted my mind. Such power in such a small body. Was that what the monster was truly capable of? I could barely give her a scratch as she beat me senseless, but Katrina. She was stronger than me.
