Severus felt like he was falling very fast when suddenly he landed somewhere with a thump. He felt his vision blur and that's when he heard two voices one male and one female. "For goodness sakes Monty you could have been a little gentler with him!" she said as the man turned to her with a scowl on his face.
"I know I could have Eva but I wasn't thinking!" he said sounding sheepish if anything.
"Who are you and where am I?" Severus asked his vision returning to him. The woman was very curvy with black curly hair and a golden dress which looked like it had come fresh from the twenties and the man had black hair, a moustache and an equally twenties looking ensemble.
"My name is Monty but everyone knows me by my more common name death and this here is my colleague Eva although most people know her as fate. You are here Severus Snape as we need your help. A certain headmaster has messed up this timeline and we need you to rectify it. You see everyone has a destiny or things they are destined to do and Albus Dumbledore only partly did what he was expected to do as most things in his life unfortunately" the man explained as Severus looked very stunned indeed. What does one even say to death? Then he thought he better respond lest he sound stupid.
"I will help you in any way I can if I can although I may not have the appropriate tools to do so!" he said as death chuckled a deep a hollow sound coming from his mouth.
"My colleague Monty has explained that Albus did not do as he was destined to. He was never meant to fall in love with Gellert but he did. Also when at last he realised what a monster Gellert was he was meant to kill him permanently but he couldn't even do that right. The elder wand was meant to be destroyed and therefore returned to Monty but of course the power hungry idiot had to imprison Gellert and keep the wand for himself. Then to make matters worse he meddled in yours and James Potters lives to your detriment!" she snapped as he looked at her in awe. Fate was beautiful but did look scary when she was angry. He felt it was lucky Albus wasn't here himself or he'd be in so much more trouble.
"I didn't know that. Yes I know about his vows and emotional tampering on my person which I have now dealt with personally. In what way did he meddle in James life though?" he asked her as she exhaled seeming exhausted by the whole ordeal. He hadn't known James' life had been meddled in by Albus. In fact if anyone had asked him he would have said Albus adored James almost above everyone else around him at that moment. It was confusing to hear that this was so not the case.
"There are many things you know nothing about. Just as Albus was ok tampering with you he also tampered with James. After that incident with the empathic broth for example James was far more disturbed than anyone else ever saw. What you don't know is that he went to Professor Dumbledore asking him to help you because you had such an awful childhood. He was still crying and shaking from his experience and because Dumbledore did not want him of all people to empathise with you he was fed an extra strength hatred potion which was aimed at you. James of course was told that the potion was to help him calm down and James believed him. This meant that he continued to hate and torture you with pranks but that wasn't enough for old Albus oh no he had to further tamper with you as well!" she once more snapped taking a seat and huffing as Monty touched her shoulder and continued the story. It was obviously tough for her to talk about it.
"Essentially Albus fed you extreme loyalty potions keyed to not only himself but known death eaters and even Tom Riddle. He made you enter that life and by then you were so far in over your head he felt like he needed to rescue you. It was his guilt plaguing him over his actions that made him save you. We know you tortured countless people and killed none. We know also that you in your confused manor also helped to heal those you had tortured in some way without being seen. We know you also tortured fellow death eaters when you could be sure no one would know about it. Quite frankly Severus I am tired of you. You either pick one side and stay on it or else. Because of Albus fucking Dumbledore you flip flopped both ways and right now you need to choose are you light, grey or dark?" Monty snapped making Severus jump.
Severus however was now openly weeping. He couldn't believe James had gone and tried to get help for him. He couldn't believe Dumbledore hated him for that so much that he fed him hatred potions keyed to Severus. It was a startling discovery to say the least. It would explain why after school when he could no longer be fed these potions by Albus he said he was deeply sorry and cried in front of him. It was this that made Severus grow up and accept his apology. Now after hearing all of this he was thankful he had done so.
"I had no idea and for that I can but apologise. I am grey and even I know that. I will never be fully light or dark and I think we all know that. I need to ask you if you know about Tom Potter?" he asked as Monty chuckled.
"Yes we know about him. He is not a problem. He is righting many different wrongs in our world and will continue to do so with his wives at his side. They are great people. Do everything he asks of you for he is not dark. Believe me when I say he was dark as Tom Riddle but yet again Albus nurtured that in him. He was an abused orphan who came looking for assistance but because he was a Slytherin member and only for that reason he never received any. I don't know why exactly Albus hates Slytherin so much as only he really knows that but he does. When Tom Riddle needed help because some members of his own house had tried to take his life because he was a half-blood he went to Albus for help and was told if he'd not been a Slytherin member he would have been able to help him fully. Essentially Tom Riddle saw no love whatsoever in his life no matter where he went and it made him what he became Voldemort!" he said leaving it all to sink in. Severus was disgusted yet again another life which hadn't needed to go the way it had only Albus refusing to help him left him feeling like he had no choice. It sounded as though Tom Riddle had been hopeless and then seeing he would never in his life get help elected to become fully dark. It wasn't an excuse but did explain things. It also explained why Voldemort had taken on mainly pureblood members and tortured them mercilessly so often. He'd never been shown any mercy so why should he show any himself.
"As for Albus he is currently asking Hermione Granger to make sure Tom doesn't go dark. I find it ironic considering what he did to Tom Riddle. She is obsessed with pleasing adults him in particular and will do it too but Filius Flitwick has helped him out with that so it should only be a problem on the weekends. I must do something now though as Albus needs to be punished excuse me!" he said shaking his hand to one side as the elder wand popped into his hand which glowed once he handed it to a stunned Severus.
"Albus Dumbledore will now have an excellent fake. He doesn't deserve this power. I am currently destroying the true wand itself but I see no reason you shouldn't have its power. It is better this way. Live your life as a normal man Severus and marry Poppy. You will be a fantastic father!" death enthused. It was their idea to open his eyes about everything Albus had done to him and indeed James. With this fresh perspective it was hoped he would be able to live his life without so many regrets. Knowing that James had been poisoned against him made so much sense now as the torture had gotten worse after that as had his response to them. He'd tortured and indeed subsequently helped so many people before but at last now he was finally free to fully be himself and live for the first time properly.
"I believe some assistance is in order myself so I will ensure that Albus doesn't care about your relationship with Poppy and neither does anyone else. No one else would have but I can't take that chance not with Albus in control. Fate always has a way of making things right and he will get justice for sure don't you worry about that! At least for now he's not nearly as powerful as he was. He will feel it too but will not understand as he appears to have the elder wand at all times. He deserves this confusion and much more. Leave him to me and things or should we say Karma will get to him for sure" she assured him as he thanked them both and found himself once more in front of the grave of James and Lily before he popped back to school again. Once there he told Tom everything and Tom senior appreciated what had happened a great deal. They were right he was good now and wouldn't do anything bad unless absolutely necessary. It had been an interesting day to say the least.
