Severus sat at the staff table wondering what everyone was freaking out about until he was handed the paper by Bathsheda Babbling to his right. He opened the paper to the article she showed him and began reading at once. As he read he realised that Tom had obviously wanted this article to be released. He understood the thinly veiled threat aimed at Dumbledore and shook his head as to him at least it was obvious Dumbledore had somehow attacked Lord Addlemore. He met Tom's eye and gestured subtly with his head in Albus' direction as Tom nodded once. It was an action missed by everyone else as they were busy discussing the article. As he read on and read about the stolen chests and tea sets he was indeed very confused. Tom wouldn't likely give a shit about that be that Tom Senior or Junior so this was obviously intended to send a message to someone about something he himself was not aware. When Rita had read the article before publishing it she did find she agreed with all it said and wasn't all that interested in that Lord Addlemore himself was paying to have this article printed and his name kept out of their dealings.
Essentially the contract she had signed stated that she would never be able to tell anyone she'd gotten the article from him prewritten and that she could only sign if she honestly agreed with what the article itself said. She did agree wholeheartedly after some investigations on her own. Gringotts knew what he was planning to say ahead of time having agreed to tell anyone who should come asking that it was the truth. He'd been guessing but was stunned to learn that it really was the truth at least with the muggleborns who had been tested so far. He'd been lying or so he thought but it was actually true. The part that could be untrue was that every muggleborn out there descended from squibs. The fact is no one knew this to be true so it was assumed it was based solely on the article. Hermione herself had read the article and found it weird but had agreed to get tested as she thought it could be an interesting learning experience for her. The wizarding world was about to be turned on its head not that Tom had intended for that or even thought of it when he'd had the article published. He can have had no idea what his article would do in pureblood homes all over the country.
Everyone cared about Lord Addlemore having been attacked and all wanted to help him out. As Severus finished reading the article he was approached by Dumbledore who asked to see him in his office in one hour to discuss something serious. He could imagine what it was about. He agreed and asked Tom to accompany him to his office at once. Most people who saw that assumed he was going to be discussing a potions assignment with him which is after all why he said he needed to see him. After they entered his office he sealed the doors shut and put up a privacy ward.
"I have seen your article my Lord and it was indeed very interesting. Am I to assume Albus attacked you in your manor? What is this about a tea set as forgive me for not thinking you would ever care about something as trivial as that!" he said as Tom chuckled. He had previously informed Tonks that the article in the paper should be taken with a grain of salt and that he was fine so she believed him fully. Daphne also knew he was fine and to ignore said article.
"You are right on both counts and I do have a task for you albeit a dangerous one. Firstly yes Albus attacked me and believes he did more damage than he actually did. In fact he did no damage whatsoever he only believes he did. This is poetic justice as he'll spend weeks worrying about what he's done as I wanted him to. It will amuse me!" he said as Severus paled slightly.
"What mission do you require me to do?" he asked nervous about it.
"On the same day Albus visited me so too did Lucius Malfoy. He wanted some old family chests the old Lord Addlemore had stolen from his family probably because he believed them to contain rare tea sets. For reasons better known to him he was obsessed with things like that although that may have been a sign of the times I am not sure. When I agreed that he could have them back as they were not rightfully mine, my house elf opened them revealing many dark and highly illegal potions ingredients. As I am not a master of potions I have them here with me and I need you to go through them quietly in your own time. Whenever you're done you are to let me know just how dangerous these are as I gathered from my brief glance into the box most of them were merely dark and not illegal at all" he said as he called for his house elf to bring the small chests forward. He laughed at Severus who groaned and rolled his eyes heaven when he saw the Malfoy crest and elaborate designs on the box. It would be just like Lucius' family to have something this grand and fill it with dangerous potions ingredients. He then realised that story was put in the paper to punish Lucius and make him sweat thinking someone had his stuff when in reality he did now. He let out a full belly aching cackle at that. It was after all hilarious. Oh Lucius would be freaking out for weeks. This was too precious.
As he donned his dragon hide gloves he picked up items taking them from the box and laying them on a special table he'd conjured so he could view them all clearly. He gasped at what he pulled out next making Tom look in shock at him. Where on earth had a Malfoy gotten this and did he know what it was? More than likely he didn't. He looked at the kilo of LSD pills in awe. "My Lord may I keep these?" he asked Tom who nodded yes. He intended to grind them up and give them to Lucius and Albus in equal measure. This would be a fun way to embarrass the men. He told Tom he would take his time to go through the chests and had his elf put the things back inside them and hide them in his personal apartment. Tom as more than happy to oblige him and left for his first class of the day. As Severus headed to see Dumbledore he was excited for the fireworks to come.
