Rain on Me

~Jack Rose's POV~

I stayed upon the rooftop of Valentino's Studio for a good thirty minutes, thinking of what to do. Angel Dust won't leave that bastard of a Moth Demon, because he's contracted to him.

And so am I...

There have been days that I wished that I did take my sister's offer and work for Alastor, but I'm doing this so that Mimzy can keep her club and Valentino wouldn't take drastic measures. It's all because of the bastard that I'm in the hole that I'm in...

I want to leave...

But I can't...

Rain began to pour over Pentagram City. It was cold. It was refreshing. It felt like the weather was reacting to how I was feeling. I felt like I wanted to hug myself and cry. But I had to be the adult and face the day with my head held high.

I picked myself back to my feet and left the Studio, to make my way back to the Hotel. As I walked down the streets, Demons were passing glances at me, but I didn't care. I was emotionally shut down right now, I didn't care what the others thought about me.

I reached the Hotel and entered through the main doors. Niffty was still cleaning the main foyer. Husk and Sam were talking, enjoying a couple of drinks, and Charlie was looking over the guest list. Guess we have some new patrons...

I rubbed my temple and took a seat in the bar, next to Sam.

"Hey, Spider Boy. What it'll be today?" Husk asked me.

"Rhubarb sparkling cider, if you have any." I answered in a sad tone, rubbing my eyes.

"You sure? You don't want anything stronger?" He asked me.

"It's the strongest I can drink right now." I sighed.

Husk nodded and picked up a can of rhubarb cider and a glass with ice. I opened the can and poured the bubbly pink liquid into the glass.

"Rough night, Elle?" Sam asked me, "You look exhausted."

I took a sip of the cider and sighed, rubbed my temple, "I am exhausted, Sam. Vox had me working on a music video since dawn. I barely had a break. My legs feel sore, my arms ache and I can barely lift my head."

"Sounds rough to me." Husk commented.

"That's not the worse of it." I spoke up, "I think Angel has had it worse with... Valentino..."

The mention of the name froze Husk and Sam in place and turn to look at me. Husk blinked and quickly recovered. Sam blinked and grabbed a tight hold of my upper right wrist.

"Could you excuse us for a moment, Husk?" She asked the winged Cat Demon.

Husk nodded and Sam dragged me up the stairs and down the hall to the room she was staying. There was a balcony, so you can see and smell the rainfall. Sam and I entered the room and Sam sat me down on her bed, as she closed the door and leaned again her microphone desk.

Sam folded her arms and narrowed her eyes at me, "Alright, Ellie. Spill. What's going on with you? You've been working yourself to the bone. You're never in the mood to talk. And you hardly get enough sleep. What's happened?"

I looked at my younger sister and sighed. I hugged myself and looked away. I wanted to tell my sister that I was working for the Three Vs, but I wasn't sure if Val was watching me or it's safe to say anything.

Sam noticed this. She walked up to me and put her hand over my shoulder, "Hey. Do you remember when we were kids? You protected me from all sorts of dangers. You even helped me when I made stupid mistakes. Even listened to me when I needed to vent." She tilted her head, "Now let me do the same for you."

I looked at my younger sister. The look on her face told me I can trust her. Nothing leaves this room.

I closed my eyes and sighed, "Valentino happened. He took me from my friend, threatened me that if I didn't work for him, Vox or Velvet, he'd take drastic measures." I balled my hands into fists of rage, "I just want to show him what I'm really made of..." Then I lowered my head and released my fists, "...But I can't. Things have been rough, Sam. But I don't know what I can do to make it all better. This is Hell, damn it! Nothing is supposed to be better."

I stood up from the bed and walked toward the balcony and let the rain fall down upon me,

[Jack Rose]

"I didn't ask for a free ride,

I only asked you to show me a real good time.

I never asked for the rainfall,

At least I showed up,

You showed my nothing at all.

It's coming down on me...

Water like misery...

It's coming down on me...

I'm ready,

Rain on me!"

I stretched my arms out and lifted my head to the rainfall,

[Jack Rose]

"I'd rather be dry,

But at least I'm alive.

Rain on me.

Rain, Rain.

Rain on me.

Rain, Rain.

I'd rather be dry,

But at least I'm alive.

Rain on me.

Rain, Rain.

Rain...

On...

Me!"

Lightning flashed and thunder clapped loudly over Pentagram City. I flinched for a moment, but the rain soaked my fur and clothes. Sam joined me on the balcony,

[Samantha]

"Living in a world where no-one's innocent,

Oh, but at least we try.

Gotta live my truth,

Not keep it bottled in,

So I don't lose my mind.

I can feel it on my skin.

(Jack: It's coming down on me)

Teardrops on my face.

(Jack: Water like misery)

Let it wash away my sins.

(Jack: It's coming down on me)

Let it wash away..."

Sam took hold of my hand and raised it to the sky,

[Jack Rose and Samantha]

"I'd rather be dry,

But at least I'm alive.

Rain on me,

Rain, Rain.

Rain on me,

Rain, Rain.

I'd rather be dry,

But at least I'm alive.

Rain on me,

Rain, Rain.

[Jack Rose]

Rain...

On...

Me!"

The thunder and lightning clashed loudly again. Sam hugged me close and we began dancing on the balcony. She was smiling, indicating she was trying to cheer me up. I couldn't help but smile with her. We stopped dancing and raised our hands to the sky,

[Jack Rose and Samantha]

"Hands up to the sky...

[Jack Rose]

I'll be your galaxy.

[Jack Rose and Samantha]

I'm about to fly...

[Jack Rose]

Rain on me, Tsunami.

[Jack Rose and Samantha]

Hands up to the sky...

[Jack Rose]

I'll be your galaxy.

[Jack Rose and Samantha]

I'm about to fly!

[Jack Rose}

Rain...

On...

[Jack Rose and Samantha]

I'd rather be dry,

But at least I'm alive.

Rain on me,

Rain, Rain.

Rain on me,

Rain, Rain.

I'd rather be dry,

But at least I'm alive.

Rain on me,

Rain, Rain.

(Samantha: Rain on me, baby.)

[Jack Rose]

Rain...

On...

Me!

[Jack Rose and Samantha]

I hear the thunder coming down,

Won't you rain on me?

I hear the thunder coming down,

Won't you rain on me?

[Jack Rose]

Rain...

On...

Me!"

The moment passed and my sister and I stood on the balcony in the pouring rain, catching our breath. Seeing how soaked we were, Sam dragged me into the room and threw a towel toward me, as she grabbed one for herself.

"So..." She began, drying her hair, "You feel better now?"

I smiled and dried my hair into a scruffy mess, "Much, actually." Then a long yawn caught me by surprise and I backed into my bed.

Sam smiled and gave a small giggle, "You should get some rest, Ellie. You must be exhausted after a long day."

I smiled and rested the towel on my lap, "Yeah. Lord Lucifer knows I need a good night's sleep after working on that music video."

Sam nodded and made her way to the doorway, out of my room, "I'll let Charlie and Alastor know that you came back in one piece. You had the Princess worried sick with your long abscence."

I nodded and giggled, "Hard to believe such a nice Demon actually exists in this place."

"She's not the only one." I heard my sister mutter under her breath.

I looked at her, "What was that?"

Sam shook her head, "Pay it no mind. Just get some rest."

With that, she left my room and closed the door behind her. I laid my head onto my pillow and looked out of my balcony, at the pouring rain. A small frown replaced my smile, as I placed my hand over my heart. My eyelids heavily lowered until completely closed and I fell asleep.
