I had quite a lot of factors to consider. The danger to my classmates, to UA, to myself even, the fact that there was no way this plan would actually lead us to finding Bakugou...all of that was against doing it. However, in the other side, there was my own frustration, and that same frustration I could see in their eyes...
I thought all through my parents' 'visit; I couldn't stop trying to decide, and when they left me alone to talk to the doctors about my disgcharge, I sunk into fighting about it in my head again.
It's a dangerous, risky and impractical thing to even consider...
But I thought about Kirishima's face, and that look of panic in Todoroki's eyes...
Todoroki...
He did so much to help me, he believed in me when I was feeling so uncertain about myself...can't I do him the same favor? Believe that he knows what he's doing?
"Yaomomo!"
I turned around. It was Jirou - finally awake.
"Jirou," I breathed out. "Thank goodness."
She ran to my side. "What happened, Yaomomo? How'd you get hurt like this? And Midoriya they said - what happened at camp?"
"You don't know?" I tilted my head, surprised.
"She's only just woken up," said the nurse. So filled Jirou in on everything that happened. Once I'd brought her up to date with everyything the pros knew, she asked "Well? And the Heroes, the pros, they're gonna try and get him back, right?"
"They'll do their best," I said. "There's not much we can do about it now, I suppose."
"I guess not...I wish I had my license," she muttered. "I wish I could go get those villains, and get Bakugou back. I mean, Heroes are supposed to save people when they can. That's why -That's why I wanted to be one," she finished.
Heroes are supposed to save people...
"You're right, Jirou. And there's still some hope." I looked to make sure we weren't overheard, then leaned in and whispered in her ear. "I put a tracer on one of the villains. I gave it to All Might-sensei."
"Yaomomo, you're amazing!" she whispered to me; I blushed and pulled back.
"Oh, I feel like you do," I told her. "I wish I could do more, with a classmate in danger."
"Yeah. It'd be illegal though."
I gave it a thought, and then made a decision. "We should take a walk," I told her. "It'll help you wake up after being out for so long."
"Yeah, good idea," she said, catching the significant look I gave her.
We made it to the roof, and I asked her "Jirou, can you check with your earphone jack that nobody is close enough to hear us?"
She examined, ensuring that we were safe from eavesdroppers as the wind blew gently around us. "We're good. What is it, Yaomomo?"
I took a deep breath and told her what had happened, and the request Todoroki and Kirishima had made of me, and how I was feeling about it. She asked me "You - you're actually thinking about it?"
Such a straightforward question. "I am. I've been thinking about it all day. Naturally, such a step requires a lot of deliberation."
"I mean, you're thinking about giving them the tracker?"
I nodded to her. "I wasn't certain. But back there, when you said you wanted to do something it made me think that -
"That you should help those two idiots get themselves killed?"
"No. Rather, you made me think that, if you're feeling that way, you who barely know Bakugou, I can only imagine what those two - and - and Midoriya, if he ever wakes up - will do t ogo save him. If I don't give them this device they'll probably try something even mroe reckless. And this way, I can make them take me with, to keep an eye on them."
"You -you're going with them?!"
"I'm hoping that once they realize the real situation, they'll back off. And they'll need someone there to keep an eye on them. To make sure they're held accountable. So I'm going to go with them, to make sure they get back safely."
She looked a little uncertain still, but she said "Those two - and Midoriya, if he goes - and you - none of ou are good at stealth, you know."
"I know. It's one of my weak points."
"I'll go with you too."
"I can't ask you to do that, Jirou."
"You didn't ask me. I'm volunteering. Assuming they let me outta here by then, I'll back you up. And hel pyou keep those two - or three - idiots safe."
I gave her a long look. "You're a great friend, Jirou. And I'm sure they'll appreciate it, once they realize the situation."
"I ain't doing it for them."
We returned to our hospital rooms, Jirou to meet with her parents. I decided to check in on Midoriya, while we waited for her. He was awake, and his arms had been healed. From what I'd heard, he'd been hurt badly enough that the damage was somewhat permanent this time.
"Have you decided what you're going to do, Yaoyorozu?" he asked me, after we'd spent a few minutes making small talk, waiting for the Doctor to leave.
"Yes. I'm going to make another receiver. What about you?"
He hesitated for a moment. "I think...I'm going."
I nodded. It didn't surprise me. I didn't know Midoriya that well...but it was clear he was the type to save everyone he could, and Bakugou in particular.
We joined Jirou in the lobby, but unfortunately, the hospital would not let her leave.
"Oh well - thank you for trying, Jirou." I smiled at her. "And don't worry too much. I trust Todoroki's judgment, at least."
"Just promise me you'll all come back ok," she told me "And if you do get a chance to save Bakugou? Make sure you get him back, OK?"
I grasped her hand. "I promise, Jirou. If it's possible, I will save Bakugou."
Todoroki and Kirishima were waiting for us outside the hospital. As he looked up, Todoroki seemed quite surprised to see Midoriya with me.
"Midoriya?"
'Yaoyorozu?' Kirishima asked me. 'What's your answer?'
I began to answer him. 'I think - '
'Wait!'
It was Iida.
'Why…' he asked, glaring at Todoroki and Midoriya. 'Why of all people…why you guys? The two of you who scolded me for my own reckless actions. Who received a special pardon. Why are you guys trying to make the same mistake I did? This is too much!'
'What're you talking about, man?' Kirishima asked; I had a guess that he was referring to Hosu City, the incident with the Hero Killer. These three had acted oddly since that day, and it wasn't hard to deduce that Iida had attempted to fight the Hero Killer, perhaps in revenge for his brother's injuries; that Todoroki and Midoriya had had to stop him and save him. Which makes their decision today doubly reckless...
'We're under the protection of the school. And things are bad enough for UA as it is. Who do you think will have to take responsibility for your actions?' Iida continued.
'Iida, you've got it wrong!' said Midoriya. 'It's not like it's ok for us to break the rules -'
And Iida punched him in the face.
I was horrified; those two were friends, classmates.
'I'm frustrated too! I'm worried! Who wouldn't be? I'm the class president! I worry about my classmates! Seeing your injuries, lying on the bed, just like my brother…if you guys go through with this rashness - if something happens to you that can't be recovered from - are you saying my concerns don't mean anything? Do my feelings not mean anything?' He held Midoriya's arms.
'Iida…' said Midoriya.
'Iida!' said Todoroki. "We're not trying to confront and attack them head on. Not at all. We're going to rescue him without combat.'
Oh - I should have guessed, that's what Todoroki would do.
'This is a covert operation! A way for us to fight without breaking the rules!'
'I trust in Todoroki's judgement,' I said slowly, putting my hand to my heart, which was beating a little fast.'But I came with the attention of accompanying you all. As a failure, should the unthinkable happen, I will prevent combat.'
'Yaoyorozu!' Iida cried out.
'I don't really understand it myself,' said Midoriya. 'After being told that my hands can still reach him, I can't just sit around. I can't help but think I want to save him!'
Iida didn't look like he was gonna give in. 'A parallel, huh? In that case, take me with you!'
