Eva stretched her arm out as she woke, finding herself alone in the bed. Sitting up she opened her eyes, blinking rapidly to clear her vision which was blurry from sleep. It took her a moment to take in her surroundings and remember where she was. Movement from outside the bedroom startled her from her reverie and she got up and pulled on some leggings and an old oversized tee from the bedside drawer before padding out into the main room.

He was standing by the range cooker with his back to her, thin black sweats slung low on his hips, shirtless and red hair wet from the shower. He looked around when he heard her closing the bedroom door. "Breakfast will be ready soon," he grinned at her "I've made your favourite."

Eva smiled back at him and sat quietly down at the table to watch him cook. She wasn't sure what to say to him.

"This looks delicious! Thank you" she enthused as he sat the plate of eggs royale down in front of her. It was indeed her favourite and her mouth watered at the sight of it. "What time were you up to get everything to make this? I didn't think I slept that late!" She hadn't checked the time before getting out of bed and wasn't wearing a watch".

"It was already in the fridge" he replied simply.

"Someone really went all out on this place, between the decor and the food supplies!" Eva remarked, digging in to her breakfast.

"That would be me." He looked up from his food to meet her eyes.

"What do you mean? That's a bit below your pay grade isn't it?" Eva looked at him with a raised eyebrow. "Were you naughty at work again?" she laughed.

He snorted. "I mean that it's my apartment. I bought it and renovated it. Rude bought across the hall. Its not as big though, this one has a better view."

"Reno, what the fuck?! First off, how are you affording this? Second, why am I here? Oh and thirdly, why the fuck are you here?!"

"Calm down Eva, Rufus built the building so it was significantly discounted and I make good money thank you very much. I bought it a few years ago and never thought much of it. You're here because you needed somewhere to stay while you're in the city and I'm here because I didn't want to be so far away from you. Granted, I had intended to stay across at Reno's and make sure you were okay from a distance but after seeing you last night and after a few drinks I couldn't stay away."

Eva rubbed her temple. "Reno, we talked about this. You made your feelings on my coming to Edge pretty clear. You made where it left us pretty clear too."

Reno's face clouded over and he looked down at his plate, pushing the food around.

"I know," he answered quietly, "I was stupid and I'm sorry. I didn't mean any of it, I was just afraid of losing you, and jealous as all hell."

"You had nothing to be jealous of." Eva sighed.

"Didn't I? I saw the way he touched you last night, the way he reacted when I touched you." Reno countered. "I know you took him to the costa del sol too and that only one room was charged."

Eva averted her gaze. " You know why that happened. You know I would never have gone so far if we hadn't broken up. You broke my heart."

" And you broke mine when you slept with him." Reno's voice was thick and raw, she could tell he meant what he said without looking up at him and she could feel his eyes boring into her.

She turned her head back to meet his gaze. "It wasn't intentional. I was emotional and upset, about you and about Zack. I didn't mean to like him. It was only twice, Costa del Sol reminded me too much of you and I felt guilty and angry with you and I made so many excuses. I like Cloud Reno, I can't help that, but I love you!" she started to cry and Reno immediately sprung up, coming to her and wrapping her in his arms.

"I love you too", he murmured into her hair.

"Tseng and Rude are going to kill me." Reno sighed a while later as they lay entwined on the sofa watching tv.

"Why?" Eva mumbled contentedly.

"Because you can't leave here and give up the job. Tseng is impressed with you so far and he won't hear of replacing you with anyone else."

" I get that, but why will Rude be mad?" Eva look up at his face.

"Tseng may or may not have ordered that I stay clear of Edge while you were here and I may have persuaded Rude to disobey under the guise that I would most definitely stay out of your way unless you were in danger or absolutely needed me to help, like with the anti-venom. I really thought you'd have worked out I was in the city then to be honest. I was hoping at least."

"I didn't even think, I was so stressed," Eva replied. "Why did you come to the bar if you were trying to stay out of the way? How did you get Rude there?" She was only now starting to question him showing up suddenly.

"Cissnei told me about Costa Del Sol and that you were messaging him while you were working away with her just before. I was jealous and I suppose I just wanted to remind you that I existed. When Tifa called about the party, it was a perfect excuse. I didn't persuade Rude, he just couldn't stop me and decided it was worse letting me go alone. He was right, if he hadn't been there I'd have ripped Clouds head off in a jealous rage when he put his arm around you in front of me rather than just following you upstairs after. I snuck out when he went to bed last night to come here. I'm sure he's noticed my absence by now."

Eva sighed. This was a mess. It wasn't one that she could bring herself to confront yet though as she lay tightly wrapped in Reno's arms. She felt like he would never let her go and listening to the familiar beat of his heart under her head as she lay against his chest was comforting, like being wrapped in a favourite blanket.
