The alleyway behind the Villains' Hideout was extremely tight. The others filed in ahead of me, easily fitting, but as I attempted to follow, I found to my embarrassment that my...chest wouldn't allow me to slip in as easily.
Navigating was extremely uncomfortable, and I mumbled, "It's so crammed. I could get stuck."
As we crept along, Midoriya said, "We can't make any moves unless we're confident it's safe...at least here no one can see us." Then, all of a sudden he started, looking up at something over the wall.
I followed his gaze, and saw a barred window, just low enough that it might be seen by standing on another's shoulders and peering over the wall.
"From that height," said Midoriya, "We should be able to see what's inside!"
Or be seen..and in any case, how -
"Will you be able to see when it's this dark?" asked Todoroki, asking the question before I could.
"If that's the case," I told them, pulling off my sunglasses and preparing the creation already in my mind, "I can make some night visio-"
"Wait!" Kirishima interrupted me. "I actually brought something like that, Yaoyorozu." And he produced, seemingly from nowhere, a rather nice night vision scope.
"What!?" cried Midoriya. "That's amazing! Why?"
"You can get anything online these days," Kirishima answered. "I only bought one, but...when I was thinking about how I could help, I figured we might need it." He looked down as if a little embarrassed. I couldn't quite fathom why; he'd thought ahead admirably. I'd never had the impression of Kirishima as being much of a planner- I still recalled how he had lost his match in the final exams, by charging in too recklessly - but it seemed he'd been learning.
"Isn't that one crazy expensive?!" asked Midoriya. "Back when I was thinking about my costume, I saw online that one of those costs like, 50,000 Yen...""
"Never mind the price, OK?" said Kirishima, and I realized with a little embarassment of my own why he'd been so flustered.
"All right," said Todoroki, getting us back on track. "Midoriya and Kirishima, you guys look. Iida and I will lift you up." AS I turned to try and look at them, I again found myself crammed. "So darn narrow," I mumbled, as the two scout groups formed, Midoriya and Kirishima doing as Todoroki suggested and getting on the shoulders of the other two.
"Don't lean forward too much, all right?" said Iida. "We need to be able to run away quickly in case things look dangerous."
"Iida, can you get a little lower?" Kirishima asked, balancing awkwardly.
"Tell us what you see," said Iida as Kirishima lifted the night vision scope to peer into the window. "What's going on inside, Kirishima?"
"Hmmm," said Kirishima. "It's pretty dirty inside, but I don't see anything especially - URGH!" He jumped backwards, his face twisted in horror.
"Kirishima!" cried Midoriya.
"Shit!" said Kirishima, stumbling and nearly falling.
"What is it? What did you see Kirishima?" asked Todoroki.
"Midoriya, look!" Kirishima stammered out, handing Midoriya the scope. Following him, Midoriya looked in as I ran through the possibilities in my head of what he could have seen to startle him so much - until Midoriya answered with the muttered, awful word:
"Noomu..."
Nomu. The creature that had attacked me. The ones that appeared to obey the League of Villains' every command. Manufactured monsters who were neither man nor animal. And from Midoriya's reaction there were more than one in there.
And we all jumped at a creaking sound, like a car being - like a car having something heavy dropped on top of it nearby. We all turned and saw - something strange...
It was indeed a car, a pickup truck, which was being lifted off the ground nearby by a giant...foot. Someone had slipped a foot inside the pickup truck like a shoe and was lifting it with a giant leg into the sky over our heads. Someone in a purple, yellow costume -
"Mt Lady!" cried Midoriya.
Indeed - the gigantification Heroine Mt Lady, a Pro Hero with the power to grow to a giantess at will -
She slammed her truck-covered foot into the warehouse roof, stomping down on it like a child might stomp on a cardboard box, and destroying the building in a single kick, the force of which knocked us all down inside the alleyway, blasting away Todoroki's wig, Kirishima's horns and Midoriya's sunglasses.
Pro heroes were here. Of course - they'd followed my tracker! They'd found the hideout before us, and were well on top of the situation! And we hadn't even had to fight.
it was a tremendous relief - a fleeting one, but a welcome one nonetheless.
