Well, hello. I think watching the Taiwanese series Wacko At Law has brought me quite a bit of inspiration, and here is this idea. It is quite different from what I have written before, but I am liking this kind of suspense-mistery- romance. This is an AU, where Yi Jeong is a lawyer instead of a famous potter.
Disclaimer: I don't own BOF. but I do own spelling errors and this story XD.
Chapter 1. The case
Ga Eul's nightmare had started the moment she called the police that day, when the blood completely surrounded the child's body. She had been scared.
Questions and more questions had come after that; she was responsible for that school trip after all, where the crime had happened. How could that happen? She didn't know it, but she felt terrible.
Now, even when the family of that little boy pressed for her arrest, the evidence was not enough. But her nightmare was just starting.
"You are a murderer and you are going to pay" she read from the anonymous note which was made by newspaper and magazine clippings.
It was the third one she had received at home.
As if the demand that she didn't know how was going to afford was not enough.
He entered to the office very pissed off in the morning. So Yi Jeong was one of the most desired men in South Korea, his family owned several of the most important museums in Korea, and he had already achieved his own fame in the law firm that he ran with his friend, S&S law firm.
A successful lawyer with high credibility, at his twenty eight years old he was already known for his numerous court cases won. Too bad his love life wasn't the same. Sure, with his dark hair, his profiled face, charming smile. Perfectly shaped body from long hours in the gym, Yi Jeong was popular with women, but he really didn't believe in such a thing as love forever.
Yi Jeong threw his briefcase on his desk, his phone rang like for the thousandth time in that hour, he glanced at the screen, then rolled his eyes when he read about sixty WhatsApp's notifications from the same person.
"Yo, man. You're being very wanted"
Yi Jeong stared to his left, his friend and partner Song Woo Bin was there in his own desk studying some files.
"This is driving me crazy" Yi Jeong answered, while a rang from the phone made him tapped the end button.
Woo Bin sighed standing up and walking to him, then then he handed him an envelope. Yi Jeong frowned but took it.
"Your girlfriend was here earlier, apparently she wants you to be this weekend in her grandma's birthday" Woo Bin informed.
"She is not my-" Yi Jeong replied.
"Yeah, she is not, but everybody knows that technically she is"
He studied his friend's face. Woo Bin was taller than him, he was uncomplicated, haughty, womanizer, and noisy. They were the same age, best friends since childhood, both studied law, then opened that law firm that became more and more known, although their families were already famous enough.
However, his friends from the F4 knew the story behind Yi Jeong's 'relationship'.
Eight years ago
Yi Jeong was bored at a business banquet his family had organized, sitting in a corner just playing with the empty wine glass in his hands, and occasionally he winked at some lady who passed by.
Until she sat next to him, Yi Jeong looked at her, of course they knew each other, after all the banquet that was being held was for their parents' association. Cha Eun Jae. She was a beautiful girl.
"Yah!" she said trying to call his attention "You should be nicer to me So Yi Jeong, we are going to spend more time together now"
Yi Jeong had smirked.
"Believe me, I know how to act in front a beautiful woman, so don't worry"
She raised an eyebrow. "Yeah, I saw you dancing and getting close to a lot of women"
"Jealous, Miss Cha?" Yi Jeong already knew that the girl had some kind of feeling for him.
"No, but it's truly worry, you should show some respect to the one who could be your soulmate"
Soul what?
Yi Jeong burst in laughs.
"It's something like destiny? I don't believe in that, people get divorced, heartbroken, and alone. That do not exist"
Eun Jae looked at him.
"Don't do this to me, you already know that I really like you. You don't believe in soulmates? Well, from now on I'm your girlfriend. If one day you find your soulmate, I give you up. Until then we are kind of engaged, or at least we are a couple"
Yi Jeong choked, he blinked a few times. "Are you crazy?"
"No, but are you afraid? You don't believe in love, but you're an adult now, and at some point you will have to get married, you and I are good friends right? So, do you promise?"
That was a very stupid logic, but for some reason her smile and those bright eyes were torturing him, he didn't lose anything after all.
"Arasso. I promise that to you"
After all those years Yi Jeong cursed himself for that, at the beginning it was just a stupid promise that he thought that the young woman was going to forget, but through the years even their parents considered it real, and even though Cha Eun Jae was nice, amazing, beautiful and intelligent, he never harbored any romantic feelings towards her, sometimes he felt bad because well…they had shared some forced kisses and intimacy moments, but not, he didn't love her, and could not marry her either. And, his love life had finished because Eun Jae made impression to everyone that she was his fiancé.
Woo Bin palmed Yi Jeong's back.
"Oh, there on your desk" he pointed to the desk of his friend "A new case, a kid's disappearance and possible assassination attempt"
Yi Jeong took the folder.
"Who is-"
"Oh, Jun Pyo is hiring our firm to defend this girl, she is a friend of Jun Pyo's new conquest. It seems that he is going after Ji Hoo's co-worker in the clinic…that will not end well" Woo Bin commented.
"To the point, Woo Bin"
"They said she is innocent"
Yi Jeong took the pages out of the folder and read carefully. Apparently a preschool boy had disappeared during a school trip, after several hours he was found seriously injured. The boy's family sued the teacher. Yi Jeong looked over the resume photo, she was a beautiful girl with long dark hair and a tender smile.
"Twenty six years old. Chu Ga Eul" he read.
Ga Eul was trembling, the cup of tea in her hands began to cool.
"Hey, keep calm. Don't worry, this is not your fault. I've already asked to a friend to help us" her best friend, Geum Jan Di smiled at her.
She nodded.
Chu Ga Eul, was a twenty-six-year-old teacher, her entire career was truly impressive, she was one of the best, caring, responsible, and truly dedicated. That year she was competing to be the director of the institution before the Seoul State Council, until the tragedy occurred with one of her students.
It had passed five days since the accident, three days since she had sent a solicitude to a lawyer firm, and two days since she started to receive written threats at home. That last thing she hadn't had the courage to tell anyone, not even Jan Di.
"I'm afraid, I also want to know how Min Jung is doing, but his family hates me. This is not my fault" she said.
Jan Di passed an arm around her shoulder.
"The police is still investigating but there's nothing that involves you. That claim will soon be denied. Ok?"
"You're right" Ga Eul said recovering a very simple smile. "But, Jan Di… The culprit is somewhere else, who could possible do that to a little kid?"
Jan Di shook her head.
"My friend and colleague Ji Hoo is the doctor in charge of little Min Jung, his condition is very complicated, whoever was the aggressor must be insane, or wants to take revenge on the family"
Ga Eul thought about it for a while, rather it seemed something personal against her.
"What is the name of the lawyer?" Ga Eul asked
"So Yi Jeong" Jan Di pronounced softly "He is one of the best, in all his career never has lost a case, or that was Jun Pyo told me"
Ga Eul was trying to calm herself down, so she decided to change her mood a bit.
"What about you and that friend Jun Pyo?" she teased Jan Di.
"It's just a friend!" Jan Di complained, but then burst in laughs with her.
After visiting her friend, Jan Di felt a little more relieved taking the fresh air of Seoul under the warmth of summer, she walked from Ga Eul's apartment back to the hospital, that day she had night shift.
Geum Jan Di, Who would say that the daughter of a simple clothes cleaner would end up being one of the best obstetrician doctors in Seoul? Jan Di had graduated from the Seoul Public University a couple of years ago, and was one of the general practitioners at the Seoul General Hospital.
Life had rewarded her meeting great people, there was her best friend Ga Eul, and of course Yoon Ji Hoo, whom she met on the first day of internships at that hospital.
She was thinking about her luck and smiling like an idiot as she walked down the hospital corridor.
"You can't daydream" a voice commented behind her.
She turned to see a handsome man, tall, with red hair and an angel smile. Ji Hoo himself, with his medical gown and reading glasses on, was smiling playfully at her.
"Hey!" she replied "It's my right"
"Of course, it is" Ji Hoo said "How's Ga Eul?"
Jan Di sighed "She's getting better, but the whole thing about parents suing her has her very nervous, she's worried about Min Jung too"
"Min Jung would be okay, although he hasn't woken up yet, he has been responding well to treatment"
They were both talking in the middle of the corridor of the pediatric wing which Ji Hoo was the director and head doctor. Jan Di seemed absorbed in her thoughts again, Ji Hoo shook her a little by the shoulders.
"Jun Pyo already spoke with Yi Jeong and Woo Bin, we will come to the end of this matter, and it will be resolved. They are the best"
Jan Di nodded smiling. She had learn a little about Ji Hoo friends, even though when she only had known Jun Pyo.
"I believe you" she said.
"Talking about that" Ji Hoo suddenly commented "Jun Pyo has left more than a thousand roses in your office. The nurses almost died of cuteness"
"What?" She reacted
"Yep, he is getting this about you very serious. Should I be jealous?"
Ji Hoo was smiling flirtatiously at her, and she almost choked. It was true that Jun Pyo was pursing her since they met by accident in the hospital parking lot, but it was also true that Ji Hoo used to tease her by flirting with her, and sometimes those looks only managed to confuse her, because yes, she would have to be blind and crazy not to like Yoon Ji Hoo.
"Leave me alone!" she said laughing.
And Ji Hoo was going to say something else, but his gaze was fixed towards the end of the corridor where the patient rooms were.
"Hey!" he yelled at someone strange who entered one of the rooms, then ran there.
It took Jan Di a couple of seconds to process that that was Min Jun's room.
It was almost four in the afternoon, Jan Di's visit earlier that day had cheered her up quite a bit, therefore Ga Eul decided to go to the supermarket and relax a bit with some shopping.
After all, as long as the case was open she was suspended from school. She was walking silently through the corridors when she stopped to see some packages of colorful gummies, she smiled because since she was a child, she had an obsession for that kind of candy in particular. What she did not expect was that at the time she took the colorful pack someone else had the same idea and desire for the same pack.
Ga Eul was startled by the simple touch of that other person's hand, instinctively her body jerked back and she turned to meet a tall and handsome young man like: very attractive.
The man grinned. She immediately felt nervous, she had never been a vain girl with her appearance, but after the events of the last days and her spirit, she had only gone to the store with a sweatshirt and sports jumpsuit, her hair was tied loosely in a bun and she was wearing her reading glasses for no apparent reason.
"Oh, mianhae" The attractive man said offering her the packet of gummies. From his looks, Ga Eul suspected the man must be a top executive. He was wearing gabardine trousers, a long-sleeved shirt, a matching watch on his left wrist, and judging from the mess in his shirt collar, he had removed an annoying tie not long ago.
"No, no" She started to say "I can have this one" Clearly she was nervous but managed to grab another package from the shelf.
The man nodded and laughed "Do you like Royal Gummies?"
"They are my favorites, in fact I'm happy they weren't discontinued" she admitted.
"Well, this will be our secret because you can't tell anyone you saw me in this hallway buying gummies" he said playfully.
That brought Ga Eul the most sincere smile since what happened with one of her students, it was as if time had stopped right there.
"Well, I don't plan on telling anyone you know. But you're an embarrassment to the gummy lovers club" ok, she was bad at joking, but she was trying to play along, he found that funny or maybe she was just being ridiculous.
"Yah!" He complained, then he frowned "You look familiar, do I know you? Have we met anywhere else?"
She blinked. Absolutely not, the chances of her meeting someone like him must be one in a million.
"I don't think so"
That didn't seem to convince him and he had the intention of replying but a voice from the end of the hall caught their attention. A very beautiful woman who looked like taken from the last Victoria's Secret show, was walking up to them.
"Honey, you were just coming for some gummies, why are you taking so long?" she linked her arm through his. Then she noticed Ga Eul's presence.
"Oh, hi! My fiancé was boring you with something about gummies? I told him he should stop that obsession" she said laughing, Ga Eul felt uncomfortable and just forced a smile.
"Enough, Cha Eun Jae!" the man exclaimed "See you, new gummy friend" he said goodbye to Ga Eul and then pulled the woman next to him, while they walked away it seemed that he was demanding something to her. Ga Eul sighed.
She continued her tour for the store to buy other things, when she went to the cashier to pay, while her purchases were being reviewed, she took out her cellphone which she had had in silence mode since the previous day.
Some missed calls, notifications, and messages, but what really caught her attention was a notification in her email. It had been sent that day in the morning, it was a confirmation of acceptance of her case, her now lawyer wanted to meet her.
Ok that was a good sign. She was going to see So Yi Jeong the next day in the afternoon.
A/N: ok, I'm nervous, what do you think?
