A/N: Hey guys! Really appreciate the positive reception this got, so thank you so much. You're the best. This is a really short update which I apologise for but I'm still trying to set things up in this story, so I'm sorry if it's still on the slow side, but don't worry we're getting there. Hope you enjoy nonetheless.

Katara's POV:

My eyes dart from side to side as I read the notes on the screen before scribbling them down on some lined paper. However, my concentration is broken by a loud groan.

"Aurghhhhh why are you studying now? Lectures don't start until Monday! You should be relaxing." My brother grumbles from his place on my bed. I roll my eyes.

"Because I'd like to actually be prepared. Med students are a competitive group, I need to be ahead." I answer seriously and return my blue orbs back to my laptop. I hear the creak of the bed behind me before my brother's face pears over my shoulder to squint at the powerpoint I have opened.

"Key muscles of the body include the pectoralis major which originates from the sternum and clavicle. It's insertion point is at the blah blah blah. This is so boring." Sokka whinges. I shoot him a glare.

"Maybe to you it is, but I find it interesting." I fire back as the pony-tailed boy leans back while his hands are raised in a defensive manner.

"Alright, alright. No need to get grouchy." My brother mutters. I shake my head and stare back at the notes again, hoping that will be the last word out of him. "You won't believe who I bumped into today." He continues after two beats of silence. I try hard to hold in my groan and tilt my head to one side to indicate that I'm listening.

"Who?" I finally ask when he doesn't seem to be forthcoming with information.

"A kid." Sokka answers plainly. I blink twice, wondering if I heard correctly before twisting my body on the chair to face my brother properly.

"And that's exciting because…?" I drawl out in disinterest.

"A kid that's at university; as in he actually studies here." Sokka clarifies. I raise an eyebrow sceptically.

"Are you sure? Maybe he's our age and just looks young." I point out but the young adult shakes his head in disagreement.

"Nope. There's no way any student is that much of a midget." The engineering student retorts. My eyes widen at his words and I go to slap him on the arm. "Ow!" He yelps and goes to rub the offended area.

"You can't go around calling people midgets! That's rude." I scold.

"But he is!" The pony-tailed man asserts. I raise my hand, ready to slap him again, but he jumps out of reach. "Besides, he told me." Sokka adds with a triumphant grin. I raise a dubious eyebrow.

"He told you he was a kid?" I ask flatly. Sokka opens his mouth but quickly snaps his jaws shut. I watch as he scratches the side of his head before shooting me a sheepish look.

"Well, he didn't say that in so many words, but he did say he was 16 and that this was his second year at uni." This time my jaw does drop in shock and I spin round fully to face the pony tailed boy.

"You're not pulling my leg right now, are you?" I breathe out in shock.

"Nope." My brother voices with satisfaction as a smirk graces his face.

"Do you know what he's studying?" I query, half expecting to be told he's doing art or something.

"Aerospace engineering." Sokka expresses, his smirk broadening at my expression of disbelief. A flash of bitterness runs through me, but it's gone before I can even dwell on it.

"He must be one of those child geniuses we hear about on the news." I mutter under my breath.

"Aw is my sister feeling jealous?" Sokka teases, prompting a growl from me. Smoothly, I spin round on my seat and return my gaze to my notes.

"Of course not! Why would I be? Maybe it will actually be nice to hear there's some other engineering student who is at the top of their class." I say offhandedly while picking up my pen. I feel my seat sinking slightly as my brother rests his arm on the headrest of the chair.

"Lucky for me, we only share a few lectures together. So no fear of being shown up by a kid." The pony-tailed boy discloses, his voice light. I wrinkle my nose slightly.

"Yeah lucky you. Would be terrible if you were stuck with a jerk." I sound half-heartedly, until I hear snickering.

"Wow I can tell how much you care about me. But for your information he's not a jerk. Quite the opposite in fact." At this, I turn my head back slightly as curiosity encompasses me.

"Oh? What's he like then?" I query.

"Well, I've only met him once but he's overly optimistic and carefree. Oh and annoyingly hopeful, kind of like you." Sokka lists off while I shoot him a sour expression, but I opt to ignore his dig at me and re-focus on his words.

"He doesn't actually sound that bad." I decide finally, eliciting a shrug from the boy.

"He isn't. Dorky maybe, but he really seems like a kid at heart. I'll introduce you to him sometime." My brother suggests. I shrug.

"Sure. It's not every day you meet a genius." I half-joke. I watch him grin briefly before he pulls back and heads to my door.

"Alright. Well, I better leave you in peace then. Don't work too hard." Sokka bids. I nod my head absentmindedly, my brain still caught up with this supposed child genius. I jerk my head up just in time before Sokka closes the door.

"Wait, what's his name?" I suddenly ask, surprising the pony tail, but he goes to answer anyway.

"Aang. Kinda strange." He answers as my head whirls with the information.

"Aang? That sounds like an Air Nomad name." I muse to myself, but my brother simply shrugs.

"I wouldn't know. I'm more into the science and machines than cultural history." Sokka retorts. I roll my eyes at him and turn back to my desk.

"Goodnight Sokka." I utter dryly.

"Well I know when I'm not wanted. Goodnight Katara." My brother murmurs. I wave him goodbye and watch as he slips out of the room, leaving me alone with my thoughts. 'So I go to uni with a prodigy. Thank the moon we're not on the same course. The last thing I need is to be reminded of how hard I've had to work to get where I am compared to other people.' I think while jotting down a few more words in my notebook, but my pen pauses after a few moments. 'Although he doesn't sound that bad of a person. Maybe it's worth making friends, especially if we're similar. So far I've only met one of my flatmates, Mai. And she isn't the friendliest of people.' I recall with a grimace.

My eyes flicker back to my laptop and with a sigh I put down my pen, knowing that I won't be getting any more work done with all these thoughts swirling through my head. 'Let's just hope people on my course are a little more welcoming.' I silently hope while chewing my lip. I exhale softly and go to switch off the lights before slipping into bed. 'New friends. That can't be that hard, right?'

A/N: Super short and a seemingly unimportant chapter, but I promise it's needed for me to build the plot on. Please let me know your thoughts. And thank you all for reading.

Explanations:

I forgot to mention in the last chapter that a society is another term for a club at uni. Just in case that went over anyone's head.

Clavicle = medical term for collarbone.

Sternum = Flat bone located at the top centre of the chest.
