A/N: So, this is the start of the Age of Ultron storyline. It takes place 3 months after the events of the last chapter.
Chapter One:
Elena's POV
I've grown accustom to the team. They've been really nice to me. Between that and what Natasha had said three months ago, I considered helping them. Being part of the team would give me something to do, some purpose.
I had been very bored at the tower. I didn't leave the place that often. Steve or Natasha would take me to different places like the park, some restaurants, an occasional museum. But, they had their own lives, plus their Avenger missions.
So, when they offered to take me along on their next mission, I said yes. Steve was sure to let me know that there was no pressure.
I was little worried and I still am. We are going to another Hydra base to look for the scepter. I hate Hydra and I guess I'm nervous about being so close. Still, I only had to stay in the Quinjet and heal whoever got hurt, which would preferably be no one.
"Shit!" I hear Tony curse as I'm sitting in the jet, listening over the speaker.
"Language!" Steve reprimands and I laugh as he continues, "JARVIS, what's the view from upstairs?"
I listen to them going back and forth, but I don't say anything.
They've been looking for the scepter for a long time. To think if it wasn't for the scepter, I wouldn't be here. I certainly wouldn't be able to heal people, but more importantly, I wouldn't have found the Avengers. I would still be trapped in a Hydra base just like this one. I shiver crawls up my skin.
Suddenly I hear Natasha shout, "Clint!"
"We have an enhanced in the field." Steve announces.
"Clint's hit!" Natasha says, before getting the Hulk to take out the bunker.
I get on the speaker and take a deep breath, "I'm coming out." I can be brave. He needs help.
Steve stops me, "Wait. Thor, can you get Clint brought to the jet for Elena to heal."
"I can get Barton to the jet. The sooner we're gone the better. You and Stark secure the scepter."
I wait for Thor and Clint, while listening to Steve and Tony on comms. Steve sees the enhanced or, I guess, he doesn't. "He's a blur. All the new player's we've faced. I've never seen this. In fact, I still haven't."
Clint and Thor arrive and I start to ignore the fight. I have Thor put him down on the medical table. Thor leaves and I put my hand on Clint's shoulder and start to heal. I feel my strength draining, so I know it's working. I have to move to my knees and rest my head on the metal bed.
Clint is still conscious, "You okay? You look worse than me." His voice is slightly strained, so I know he's in pain, but he still has time to make jokes.
"I'm fine." I say as I roll my eyes. "Just close your eyes and get better."
After a few minutes, I check the wounds and they seem good. I let go and just lay down on the floor for a little bit.
Clint sits up on the table and looks down at me. "Seriously, are you okay? I didn't realize healing took so much out of you."
I give him a thumbs up, "I'm good. I just need a moment. I don't do this that often."
I get up before the rest of the team gets to the Quinjet. Natasha is comforting Bruce when they walk in. Tony has the scepter in hand. I haven't seen it in a while, but it brings up bad memories. The pain of the experiments. Being seen as a failure in Hydra, for having such a useless power. I shake away the thoughts.
I focus my attention on the rest of the team. Natasha turns to Thor, "report on the Hulk?"
Thor responds ethusiatically, "the gates of Hel are filled with the screams of his victims."
Natasha glares at Thor and Bruce groans in despair.
"Not the screams of the dead, of course. More like wounded screams, mainly whiny and a great deal of complaining." Thor backpedals.
I suppress a laugh.
The conversations turn to talks about a party. Tony has had parties since I've been at the tower, but I have never gone to any of them.
Yet, even Steve seemed to think that this was the end of Hydra and I know that's worth celebrating.
We arrive at the Avengers Headquarters.
Tony, Steve, and I meet with Maria Hill. We all want information on the enhanced newbies.
"What the word on the two enhanced?" Steve asks
Maria Hill answers, "Wanda and Pietro Maximoff. Twins. Orphaned at ten when a shell collapsed their apartment building. Sokovia's had a rough history. It's nowhere special, but it's on the way to everywhere special."
I wonder if I've ever been Sokovia. I knew it touched the southern border of Bulgaria, but that was all.
"What's their abilities?" I ask.
"He's got increased metabolism and improved thermal homeostasis. Her thing is neural electric interfacing, telekinesis, mental manipulation."
I nod, understanding a good bit. Steve gives her a funny look.
"He's fast and she's weird." Maria clarifies. "File says they volunteered for the experiments. It's nuts."
Volunteered? For Hydra?
Steve retorts. "Right. What kind of monster would let a German scientist experiment on them to protect their country?"
I've learned a lot about the team since I've come here. I know about Steve's history, but I wouldn't compare what happened to him with what happened to the twins at Hydra. Steve has told me about the German scientist who changed him, someone nice like that couldn't work at a place like Hydra.
"We're not a war, Captain." Maria says.
"They are." He says certainly. I smile. Steve is too kind for his own good, but I'm won't complain. It's what led me here.
We could help the twins, like Steve helped me. It does disturb me a little that they volunteered to join Hydra. To be experimented on.
They probably didn't know what Hydra was, what Hydra does. Maybe they wanted to leave later, and couldn't. A million possibilities run through my head. Some good, some bad.
I start to push them away. Only time would tell anyways. I head to the training room.
A/N: I may be publishing more on Tony Stark's daughter, a different story, which is fairly similar to this one. But the main character is completely different, so don't get them confused.
Also, Thanks for reading.
