Rated M for dark themes and cursing
Picking just four kids to bring over is turning out to be harder than Ben initially thought. He wants to save all the kids, give all of them a chance to make their own decisions. In his initial group, he wants to bring over the ones who will need the most help, but are old enough to not need their parents. Now just to get through the large stack of files in front of him. All of which are filled with school records and birth certificates of the Isle kids. So far, he decided on the kids of Jafar, Evil Queen, and Cruella De Vil. He got stuck when he found three files for children of Maleficent. A 16-year-old named Mal, a 14-year-old named Fey, and a 4-year-old named Malice. He feels a connection to the one named Mal, having a gut feeling that she is the girl from his dreams. There is just an issue with the second file. The one for Fey. Unlike all of the other files, this one had a death certificate with a sticky note stuck to it. The note stating that the toddler's body was never located in the forest she died in. "No wonder it took so long for Maleficent to have a third child, suddenly losing an 11-month-old is heartbreaking," Ben says to himself as he starts to close the file. A thinner file slipping out of it and onto the hardwood floor. The teen prince didn't notice the fallen file at first. Having been too busy putting the file for Mal on top of the small stack to be given to Fairy Godmother after he tells his parents about his first proclamation as king. With a smile, he pushes away from his desk and walks over to the window with a view of the Isle for his suit fitting with Lumiere.
The young prince was not expecting this much prep just to become king. He knows that there will be a lot more to do once the four teenagers come over from the Isle. Lost in thought, he lets Lumiere do the adjustments as the teen stares off at the dome covered island in the distance. Not hearing the clicking sounds of his mother's heels as his parents walk into the bedroom. Light shining off the gold buttons on King Adam's suit. "How is it that you're going to be crowned king next month? You're just a baby!" Adam exclaims. Still seeing his teenage son as the little golden-brown haired baby that would toddle after him. Kids really do grow up fast.
"He's not a baby, dear. He's turning 16!" Belle says with a smile. Proud of the man her son is becoming. As Ben steps forward to joke with Adam, Belle notices a thin folder open on the floor in front of Ben's desk. A paper from it in front of Ben's four-poster oak bed. The petite brunette queen quietly moves away from her two boys. Picking up the paper and folder off the floor. All of the files for the inhabitants of the Isle are color coordinated based on if they are a villain (green), sidekick (red), or child (blue). This folder was blue, informing the queen that her son was informing the queen that her son was looking at the children of the Isle for some reason. The name on the folder looks familiar to her, Hadley Olympia…
As the queen tried to remember why she recognizes the name, she hears Ben say "I have decided my first proclamation as king." The kind-hearted mother walks back over to Adam and Ben as she slips the paper back inside the folder. "I want to give the children on the Isle of the Lost a chance… to live here in Auradon," the teen announces, waiting for his dad to explode at him.
"A chance to what, Ben? Take over Auradon. They are the worst villains in the land…" Adam roars, starting to go on a rant until Belle whacks his arm with the folder. Stopping the beastly rage before it could fully emerge.
"Those children are innocent!" the prince exclaims, he feels like those children were abandoned over there. If the kids of heroes have the chance to forge their own paths, so should the villain kids.
Before Adam has a chance to retort, his true love gives him a warning look. Silently telling the man to support their son. "I gave you a second chance," she reminds her husband. Adam was viewed as a monster while under the enchantment, he was about the same age as some of the children on the Isle.
"I suppose the children are innocent. Who were you thinking?" Adam sighs, silently hoping that his son is choosing younger kids or the kids of sidekicks. Or perhaps the child Yen Sid had been recommending for the past 9 years. The young daughter of Hades.
"The four who need the most help. The son of Jafar, the son of Cruella De Vil, the daughter of the Evil Queen, and the daughter of… Maleficent," Ben states, waiting for his father to explode again.
Seconds before losing his cool again, the former beast spots the aqua folder again. He gently takes it from his queen and flips through Yen Sid's observations from his private tutoring for the child, along with health statements and forms completed by both Yen Sid and Hades. Once Adam read the last report, which had been sent only a week prior to now, he passes it to Belle. "The daughter of Hades will be brought over as well. Your mother and I will be responsible for her, the other four are your responsibility," Adam announces, his tone making it clear that his decision is final. Before leaving the room, Adam handed Ben Hadley's folder. Belle putting the last medical report on top with a sad smile before following Adam out of the room. The smile disappearing once they were in the hallway. "We need to call Fairy Godmother. We have less than 2 months to save the daughter of Hades and we need to prepare for the worst."
As Ben was putting the report back in the folder, a highlighted sentence caught his eye. "The child will likely die in the next two months unless she receives invasive medical attention in Auradon," he reads out loud. Heart sinking as he begins to read more of the file on this 14-year-old girl.
A Week Later
Mal, Evie, Carlos, and Jay are not excited about going to Auradon. The Isle is their home! They have control over parts of this dingy, run-down prison. But alas, Maleficent had other plans. Hence why the four teenagers are currently in front of Maleficent's 'throne'. The throne being a rather pathetic green chair with its cushioning coming out. "The four of you will go to Auradon, steal the wand, and bring it back to me. Easy peasy," the Mistress of All Evil winks at the group. Ignoring the protests of the teenagers in front of her.
"You said that 5 of us are going to Auradon. Why is the 5th person not here?" Mal points out. When her mom found the 4 of them stealing candy from a baby, the teens were told that they were 4 of 5 kids chosen to go to Auradon. The purple-haired leader may not know who the mystery kid is, but they may prove to be a valuable asset to the job.
"The daughter of Hades was given her own mission to complete," Maleficent puts simply. Not enjoying being questioned by her eldest. She is beginning to think that she should have kept Fey and thrown out Mal instead. The dark fairy stands up and walks over to her purple-haired child. "Do not make me regret choosing you over Fey," the dark fairy threatens. She had not taken the decision to abandon Fey lightly. The second she had laid eyes on her newborn, she felt some kind of need to protect the screaming creature. To make sure that Fey would not become a weakness, the 11-month old was left in the UnCharted Forest. The same forest Kaa, Shere Khan, Sabor, and Scar reside in. With a firm grip, Maleficent grabs onto Mal's arm and drags her towards the old green fridge that serves as a safe. The fairy pulls at the silver handle, attempting to open the appliance that always gives her a struggle. The teenage fairy rolls her eyes as her mother fails to open the fridge. "Queen! I can never figure out this thing," the Mistress of Evil calls out to her sometimes useful ally.
The middle-aged Queen glides from her seat and easily opens the fairly simple refrigerator on the first try. "Ta-da," she says with an eye roll. Clearly being over having to help with such a menial task.
With a smile, Maleficent takes her leather-bound spell book out of the freezer. A brass dragon covered in frost on the cover. "I remember using this when I was cursing entire kingdoms. And now it's your turn to start making memories… by doing exactly as I tell you," The mother of the year states as she slaps the spell book against Mal's chest. Outside the crumbling tower, a limo honks to announce it's arrival. Most of the adults walk down to the front of the tower with their children. Maleficent walks Mal over to the balcony of their tower, the same balcony that Maleficent stands on to yell at her subjects every morning. Down at the limo, a bunch of other Isle residents are surrounding the limo. Trying to get a closer look at it as a weathered old man wearing long blue robes with a matching pointed hat walks up with a teenage girl about the same height as Carlos and as pale as Mal. Her electric blue hair asking a striking contrast against her black leather jacket with spikes along the shoulders, her dark blue pants with rips at the knees, and the black combat boots. "The fate of the free world rests on your shoulders. Don't blow it kiddo," Maleficent says to her daughter before shooing her off to complete the mission that was given.
Mal starts to head downstairs as a small boy with dark purple hair tackles her legs with a hug. His head barely reached her hips. "Can't you take me with you? I don't want to be left alone with mommy," he says in a small voice. Mal looks down at the boy with a sad smile. The child is a 4-year-old, but can easily pass as younger because of how skinny he is.
"Go to Hadley's crew or Hadie. They'll get you to dad. He may take you in now that I won't be around to take care of you," Mal says as she picks up her bag with the arm not wrapped around her baby brother. Due to how revenge oriented their mother is, Mal started taking care of Malice when she was only 12- years-old. When Hadley formed her gang, the Kindly Ones, they started to keep an eye on Malice as well. Even with the daughter of Hades going to Auradon, the Kindly Ones will still get Malice to Hades at the very least.
"Try to see if I can come next. Us little kids need a chance too," Malice says as he moves away from his big sister once they get outside, knowing better than to appear like he cares.
Mal hands her bag to the driver as she watches Malice say goodbye to Hadley. The daughter of Hades handing her little brother a dagger, the handle being made out of an off-white bone before climbing into the limo. Mal is the last to get into the long, black car. She situates herself next to Evie. Not going after the candy like the boys and Hadley. The boys are shoving each other to get to the chocolate as Hadley tosses a blue rock candy at Evie before liberating the bowl of sour rainbow ropes. Mal randomly presses a button on a remote and the screen divider slides down as the limo approaches the end of the broken bridge.
"It's a trap!" Carlos yells as the group of teenagers huddle together and scream. Expecting the driver to take them to Hades the hard way. When they didn't feel road drop from underneath them, they look up. A shining golden bridge appears before them as the limo heads for shore.
"Hey! Did this little button open the magic barrier?" Mal asks the driver, tapping the divider to get his attention.
"No, this opens the barrier," the driver says holding up a small black remote. Setting it back down as he reaches for a button on the ceiling next to him. "That one opens my garage. And this one…" He says as he presses the button he reached to, the divider sliding back up.
"Nasty… I like that guy," Mal smirks as she turns back towards the others.
A/N: I'm hoping to be able to update every other Saturday. If I know that I have one week that I can't update, I will put up two chapters at once. Until next time!
