Chapter 1: World that I used to know (2/4)
There you go, sleep well...
After an extremely unpleasant brawl against his creepy neighbor. Bentley Jones untied his redheaded friend and carried her to his home and placed her on top of his bed. He couldn't find her clothes anywhere, so he put one of his mother's nightgowns on her, and covered her with his favorite blanket.
I'm gonna let her sleep in, she probably needs it, once she wakes up, I'll ask her about the others. He thought as bent over and planted a kiss on her forehead. The black eye was the only damage I could find, but I really hope that was the only thing that Frederico did to her before I arrived.
The blond boy then straightened up, and took a look at his mural of photos. Letting out a sigh, the green-eyed boy grabbed a set of specific photos from the mural. After taking one last look at Soph, Bentley decided to leave her there to get some rest.
Moving to the living room, Bentley sat down on his father's chair in order to take a look at the photos.
The first photo was one of himself with friend Marlon. They were both wearing their Rugby uniforms, flexing their biceps in front of a field. Marlon and I were so upset over the loss of that game that we quit Rugby altogether. Marlon took Baseball and Football afterwards while I kept experimenting with other sports but never stuck to anything afterwards. I should have just followed the coach's advice and got my ass back to Rugby.
The second photo was one of himself and his friend Louis. They were both wearing fine looking suits in front of a stage. Our parents were blown away by our performance, this was the day that Louis proved to his dad that he was a great musician. It turns out, Lou and I make a great musical duo, and it would have never happened if he hadn't been convinced to take music classes with him in order to get his parents to agree. Why the hell was I playing with him a factor is still a mystery though.
The third photo was one of himself and James. They were back to back on top of his father's food truck. This was after James told me he was in love with me... I love him too but not like that... I wish he'll just move on because he deserves better.
The fourth photo was one of himself and Brody. They were both helping each other stretch for gymnastics class. Brody could have been great but her anxiety got in the way, that's why she ended up quitting. I ended up quitting later as well. Truth is, I only took the classes because my presence there helped her relax.
The fifth photo was one of himself and Mitch. They were both inside a forest , wearing summer wear giving a middle finger to the camera. This was from the time where Mitch taught me how to make bombs. We spent the whole day blowing stuff up, until we accidentally blew a guy's bicycle up and we had a brawl against him and his three friends when they came after us.
The sixth photo was one of himself and Willy. Both of them were laughing their asses off at Aasim running away in his underwear. This is from when we filled Aasim's pillow up with cockroaches. He screamed so loud that it woke up the whole neighborhood.
The seventh photo was one of himself and Omar. They were both inside a fancy looking kitchen, covered with fleur. This was when he was helping me make a cake for Clementine's birthday. The only thing that kept it from being a total disaster was Omar's great cooking skills.
The eighth photo was one of himself and the twins. They were all dressed up and he had his arms wrapped around their torsos. This was when their mom married Tenn's dad, and I was the only one that managed to go because their mom didn't let them invite everyone. So I had to spend the whole event cheering them up because they really hated their new stepfather. Soph more so than Minnie.
The ninth photo was one of himself alongside Ruby and Aasim. They were all hanging around a carnival giving a thumbs up to the camera. This was when I was playing matchmaker to help Aasim in getting together with Ruby. It worked perfectly and I really love to see these two together. I still can't believe that Aasim's pyromania actually did the trick.
The tenth photo was one of himself and Tenn. They were both smiling and while sitting inside a firetruck inside a Fire Department, wearing firefighter's helmets. This was when I took Tenn to see the Fire Department where my dad works. He always thought it was awesome that my dad was a Firefighter. But considering his scar, I think he simply admires people in that line of work.
The eleventh photo was one of himself and Violet. They were both sitting on the floor inside his room playing his Xbox 360. After her grandmother died, we all basically took turns in letting Violet spend the night in our homes. Though, it basically came down to either mine or Minerva's since everyone else stopped doing it after a while for personal reasons. Luckily, my parents didn't mind and we usually stay awake until late at night watching cartoons and playing video games.
The final photo was one of himself and Clementine. He was hugging her from behind in front of the university that his mother and her father used to teach at. Clementine's father was a history teacher while Bentley's mother was a science teacher, both workers at the University of Georgia. If my mother and your father weren't such good friends, we might have never met and that would have been tragic. I'm just glad that the teaching job at Virginia didn't work out, I hated that place. The only thing that made it bearable were the times I spent at the gym teacher's home playing Ping-pong. It's funny that we switched to playing online matches together on the Xbox 360 after I moved back.
A sad sigh escaped his lips as he placed the photos inside his backpack. If you guys are still, I will do whatever it takes to find all of you. Bentley thought. After leaning on the couch for a bit, he actually realized that he was really thirsty. Maybe... The blond boy moved to the kitchen to check the sink, and saw that the water was still running. "Yes..." Wasting no time, he gulped down the tap water almost immediately. After killing his thirst, Bentley remembered something, moving his head to the left. "Pretty please..." He spoke as he opened the cabinet. YEEESSSS! He thought happily after finding a bag of Oreos, which is his favorite snack.
Wasting no time, Bentley grabbed every single snack inside of the cabinet and took them to the living room and placed them on top of the table in front of the couch. With a smile on his face, he immediately opened the bag and ate one. "Oh god..." He spoke in pure joy as he enjoyed the wonderful taste. As he ate however, he caught the sight of his hand. He removed the glove that was covering his hand and took a very good look at the bite mark that he had there. "Fuck you, Rick Grimes."
"Is this the place?" A boy with a blond mullet asked.
"According to the map and the fact that it is clearly a hospital, yes." A boy with blond curls responded.
Bentley Jones and Marlon Morrison, were standing in front of the entrance of a hospital. Bentley was holding a wooden baseball bat while Marlon was holding an aluminum baseball bat.
"We should have brought Mitch and James too, what if the place is crowded?" Marlon asked Bentley as he buttoned up his Letterman jacket.
"I told Mitch and Aasim to see if they can find some gasoline and maybe another working car, Louis and Violet are looking for supplies for the road, Clementine and James are looking for weapons in the police station, the rest are in the house watching over Soph." Bentley explained as he closed his denim jacket as well.
"But it is getting dark, you really think it's a good idea?" Marlon pointed out as he checked the sun that was going down.
"Of course not, but Soph is really sick and if we don't get this meds she might not last long." Bentley also pointed out to his friend. "Are you with me or not?" He asked one of his best friends, lifting his hand.
Marlon still seemed a little reluctant. "Always." But he agreed.
They made their secret handshake before the two of them moved towards the entrance. It was open, and there were no Walkers on sight. But the reception of the place did not give out a good sign, there was blood and damage everywhere, empty shells on the floor and bullet holes everywhere. The two blond boys slowly entered the place in hopes of finding what they were looking for. However, they were both uneasy about the atmosphere of the place.
"God, this is so fucking screwed." Marlon commented as he looked around.
"Keep it together." Bentley told him that they passed through the reception area with their guards up. Eventually, they arrived at a small map that was on the wall. "Look," He pointed at a spot on the map. "The hospital's pharmacy is on the upper floor."
"Do you even know what we're looking for?" Marlon asked as he looked at the door to check for Walkers.
"Yes, Ruby wrote it down for us." It was in his jacket's pocket. "But we should really fill the backpack with the essentials like Painkillers, antibiotics, etc."
"What if someone already went through and took everything that is useful?" The blond boy asked his blond friend.
"Then we're fucked, but we have to be certain first." Bentley answered his question. "I'm not going back until I check every single inch of this hospital because I'm not gonna just sit down and watch Soph die."
"Me neither, but let's get started before we have some undesirable company." Marlon couldn't stop staring at the door in fear. Not that it wasn't understandable considering the number that they saw on the street last time.
Bentley signalled him to move and the two boys slowly walked down the corridor in order to search for the stairs, so they could reach the floor above. Checking every single corner as they move in a slow speed, Bentley couldn't help but notice the amount of holes on the wall and the number of empty shells on the floor, which was practically everywhere, alongside blood. But there was no corpse or Walker on sight, which made him wonder where the people that the blood belonged to are.
"What do you think happened here?" Marlon asked as he kicked an empty shell on the floor. "A shootout?"
Bentley moved his green eyes and stared at his friend with a somewhat sad face. "Or a massacre."
Marlon made an equally sad face, but they got over it in order to keep going.
Eventually, they reached the end of the corridor and found the door that led to the stairs. But there was a problem, it was too dark inside. "Shit." Bentley then reached inside his jacket's pocket and pulled out a small flashlight. Turning it on, he examined the inside only to catch the glimpse of something awful.
"Ah shit..." Marlon immediately looked away, as there was a mutilated corpse inside the room. That was clearly devoured.
"Fuck..." Bentley had an urge to look away as well, but he needed to make sure that whatever did that wasn't there anymore. So he illuminated the area with the flashlight to check, but saw nothing. "Come on..." He called Marlon.
Marlon reluctantly followed Bentley inside, both doing their best to ignore the mutilated corpse there despite the awful smell that they were sensing. Climbing up the stairs slowly with Bentley leading the way, Marlon held his bat tightly in preparation. It only took a dozen steps for them to find the door that led to the floor that they were looking for. Moving his head to look at Marlon, his friend simply gave him a nod, which he responded with a nod of his own before he opened the door that led to a corridor.
The second floor was as bad as the first floor. Holes on the walls, equipment all over the place , blood and a few corpses there. Bentley simply placed the flashlight back on his pocket in order to have a better grip on the bat. A bad idea since it was getting dark, but he had a bad feeling. The two blond boys could only move forward expecting danger.
Carefully, they moved towards the corner of the corridor, which led to a straight way with rooms on each side. The way was clear, but they kept their guards up.
"Where is the pharmacy again?" Marlon asked in a low voice.
Bentley pointed at the door at the end of the corridor. "Right behind that door."
With their bats ready, they both walked down the corridor.
"You think the others are okay?" Marlon asked him.
"None of us are okay," That was his reply. "But they can handle themselves."
"I just hope that Clementine and James manage to get us some guns." Marlon really wanted to get himself a gun despite not knowing how to use one.
"Too fucking loud and the ammo will be hard to come by." Bentley decided to point out the downside of it.
"You're just repeating what Violet said." Violet indeed said that.
"Doesn't make it any less true." Bentley added.
Eventually, the two of them reached the door that led to the hospital pharmacy.
"Let's get what we need so we can get the hell out of here." Marlon said before he extended his hand to open the door.
"Wait, w-" Bentley was about to tell him to wait, because they didn't know if there was something on the other side.
But before he could speak, Marlon opened the door. "Oh shit!" It was his immediate reaction as a Walker came out of the door as soon as he opened, with Marlon jumping back to evade it.
Unfortunately, it wasn't just one. A group of at least a dozen Walkers passed through the door. "Run!" The two blond boys could only move back as the Walkers started to come after them. Running as quickly as they could to get away from them, they quickly made their way to the other side of the corridor in order to go back to the stairs. But as soon as they reached the end of the corridor, Bentley stopped running while Marlon opened the door that led to the stairs.
"What are you doing!?" Marlon asked Bentley.
Gripping the bat hard, Bentley took a deep breath and turned towards the Walkers. "We need to get the meds for Sophie." That was his response.
"Are you fucking kidding!?" Marlon desperately asked. But Bentley started to walk towards the group of Walkers that were coming after them. "AAHH! Goddammit, BJ!" The other blond boy moved away from the door and ran to stand beside Bentley with his aluminum bat ready.
Bentley, as he looked around for a bit, started to move all of the objects that were spread around the corridor in order to create a small blockage to slow them down. Marlon noticed, and joined him, by moving a hospital stretcher that was blocking a door on their right. Placing the stretcher horizontally, right in front of them. The two friends prepared themselves.
"Vertical swings, don't miss." Bentley instructed Marlon.
"I never miss." Marlon replied with a smile.
"Only when I'm the one tossing the ball." Bentley replied with a smile of his own. "Here they come."
As soon as the first Walker approached, Marlon bashed its skull in with a perfect swing of his bat. Bentley followed his example and did the same with the next Walker that closed the distance. They continued with the same tactic as soon as a Walker managed to pass through the improvised blockade that they made. Soon enough, they manage to get rid of almost all of them.
"Only three left." Marlon spoke.
But as the two friends prepared to get rid of the rest of the Walkers.
The door that Bentley was standing in front of opened. "RRRR!" And a Walker that was dressed as a patient stepped out of it.
"Oh shit!" Bentley had no time to react, since the Walker grabbed him and made him stumble backwards, accidentally colliding with Marlon. With the two accidentally falling down as a result. But as soon as they fell down, the Walker carved it's teeth on Bentley's hand. "AAAHH!" He yelled as he felt the bite. "NO!" Bentley immediately punched the Walker's face, which was enough to get it off of him, and he immediately got on top of the Walker and started to punch the monster's face. Over and over and over again, until he practically bashed it's skull in with his fist.
"Shit, BJ!" Marlon yelled.
Bentley turned his head around and saw that one of the remaining Walkers had grabbed Marlon's arm as he tried to stand up. The blond boy's response was to stand up, grab his baseball bat from the floor, and swing at the Walkers head in full force, killing it instantly.
"Shit." Marlon spoke as he tried to stand up, but Bentley pushed him down again, before he swung at the other Walker at full force.
"COME ON!" He yelled as he pushed the hospital stretcher out of the way and smashed the Walker's head in with the baseball bat, over and over and over and over and over and over.
"Hey, BJ! BJ!" Marlon tried to call his attention. "What the hell are you doing ?! Stop!" He told his friend.
After one last swing, Bentley stopped.
...
...
...
Bentley Jones simply stood there, breathing heavily, trying to process the situation. Until, tears started to come out of his eyes.
"BJ?" Marlon noticed and immediately touched his shoulder in concern. "What's wrong?"
Bentley simply moved his head and stared into Marlon, barely being able to contain his tears. Until he lifted his hand slowly to show him why he was crying. As soon as he saw the bite mark, Marlon widened his eyes and covered his mouth in shock. And Bentley bursts into tears a second after.
"H-hey..." Marlon was clearly as devastated as Bentley. Immediately enveloping him into a hug. "Come here."
Bentley hugged Marlon as tightly as he could as he could not believe this was happening. "I-i don't wanna die. I don't wanna die. I don't wanna die. I don't wanna die... I don't wanna die..." He kept repeating that over and over and over again as he cried on Marlon's shoulder, who could do nothing but hold him tightly.
...
...
...
...
...
Bentley's tears were all over Marlon's jacket, who was clearly doing everything he could to not cry as well. Eventually, Bentley moved his head away from Marlon's shoulder and looked into his eyes. But then he moved his head to look at the Walker that bit him. Taking a deep breath, Bentley approached it.
"What are you doing?" Marlon asked in a sad voice.
Bentley didn't respond. He simply stood there and looked at the Walker, before he moved his head towards the room that he came out from. That he entered soon after, it was a patient's room, but that was already obvious from it's outfit. He approached the only bed in the room in order to grab the file that was attached to it.
"BJ?" Marlon, who was standing by the door, called him.
"Rick Grimes, thirty-five years old, in a coma after getting shot." Bentley read the information on the file. "I guess he never woke up..." It was kind of obvious. Dropping the file on the floor and wiping the tears off his eyes, the blond boy made a decision. "Come on, let's grab those meds." That was the only thing he said before moving towards the door.
"BJ..." Marlon was visibly upset.
"I'm not dead yet, and I'm gonna do something useful with whatever time I have left." He said that while touching Marlon's shoulder, the truth was, he was still upset but he prefers to save the tears for later. "Are you with me?" That was his only question.
Marlon stared at him with a sad face. "Always."
"Then come on, buddy."
That was how he got bitten, by a Walker that used to be a man called Rick Grimes. The blond boy kept reminiscing that memory as he finished the bag of Oreos, after he actually lightened some candles up because it was getting dark.
Until...
He heard the noise on his right. Moving his head to see what it was, he noticed that Sophie was standing there, with his lamp on the floor after she apparently dropped. Sophie was identical to her twin sister Minerva, with the sole difference that Soph keeps her red hair longer while Minnie keeps hers short. A very awkward silence started as the two stared at one another for almost a minute. Bentley basically stared at her with a neutral expression while Sophie stared at him like she's seeing a ghost, which is understandable. Having enough of the silence, Bentley slowly stood up from the couch and approached Sophie slowly, who simply stepped back in fear. With the two entering his room again without saying a word and continued until Sophie ended up on the wall, still looking frightened, Bentley closed the distance and placed his hand on the wall, and approached his head in order to stare deeply into Sophie's blue eyes with his green ones, mostly to inspect the black eye that she had. Touching her face slowly, Bentley finally broke the silence.
"Does it hurt?" He asked his friend.
Sophie didn't respond, she instead lifted her hand slowly in order to touch the hand that was touching her face. Only taking a second to lift the glove that Bentley was wearing where the bite mark was located. Touching the healed bite mark. "A-are you..." She tried to ask.
"Not a ghost, not a dream and not a hallucination." Bentley answered her. "Come here." Then he pulled Sophie into a bone breaking hug.
Sophie didn't react to it at first, but after a few seconds, she returned. "Holy shit!" That was her answer. "It's really you!?" She asked in pure and complete disbelief. Bentley's response to that question was to lift her off the floor and spin with her on his arms. Which caused Sophie to laugh in response. "Okay, it is you!" She said while laughing before the blond boy put her down. "But, how?"
"No fucking idea." Bentley replied once he separated from the hug. He removed the glove from his hand. "After you guys left, I just sat down and waited, but nothing happened." That was his explanation. "No fever, no weakness, nothing."
"But everyone we saw getting bitten by those things got sick and later died afterwards." Sophie pointed out the obvious to Bentley.
"I know, that's why I'm confused." That was Bentley's reply. Before he looked at her black eye once again. "Are you feeling okay?" He asked as he gently caressed her bruise.
"It hurts but..." She was about to explain to him, until she widened her eyes after realizing something. "W-what happened to that big guy!?" The redhead girl was visibly frightened while searching around the room for any traces of him.
"Ahhh..." Bentley simply waved off. "I beat the shit out of him, tied him up on the same bed where you were tied down and locked him inside his apartment." His face was incredibly swollen from all the punches that Bentley gave him. "But, what the hell happened?" That was the question that he really wanted to know. "Why were you alone? What happened to everyone else?!" His worry was at an all time high.
"We..." Sophie was visibly upset. "Arrived at the city four days ago and we tried to get to our homes to see if we could find any sign of our parents or something." She touched her face in deep frustration. "Marlon's dad, Brody's sister, Willy's aunt, Aasim's parents, Omar's parents, James's brother..."
Bentely widened his eyes in response to what he just heard. "All gone?"
She nodded with a sad face. "We couldn't find our mom or Tenn's dad anywhere." The house was in terrible condition but he didn't see anything there.
"Fuck..." He touched his face in deep frustration after hearing that.
"We were... On our way to check Mitch's home and then Ruby's, but..." She seemed to be trying to find the right words. "A giant horde of them appeared on the street, Mitch didn't have the time to evade them and he ended up crashing his van." Sophie then stared into Bentley's eyes. "We all had to run for it." Oh no... Bentley really didn't like what he just heard. "I was with James and Tenn, but I tripped while we were running down an alleyway. James and Tenn managed to reach a Fire Escape of one of the buildings, James tried to get to me, but there were just too many of them, so he told me to run and I..."
"You ended up here." Bentley finished for her.
"I ran as fast as I could, without paying attention to where I was going, until I actually saw your building and ran inside." Sophie explained to him. "The key for your home was in your jacket's pocket."
"I see..." Now it came to the part that he was the most worried about. "Sophie, what happened after you got into my home?"
"I stayed here, for the night." She explained. "I made myself some Pasta, slept on your bed and just tried to gather my courage to head back out there to try to look for the others." There was a certain shame in her voice, but Bentley really didn't blame her as he himself isn't really looking forward to heading back out there either. "But, then I heard some voices coming from the other room, and decided to check." Precisely what I did. "And I ended up meeting that old lady and the big guy..."
"Ms. Clotilda and Frederico." Bentley told her their names.
She nodded. "They seemed friendly, so I sat with them in order to know what happened in the city, apparently, there was an evacuation that they ended up missing, then the military bombarded the city with them surviving by pure luck." Mom and Dad were probably in that evacuation, dad is a firefighter so he must have aided the military with the evacuation. "After too much time passed, I decided to leave but then the guy got all weird with me which only made me want to get out of there as quickly as I could." Frederico would always whine about how girls take advantage of nice guys like him and always go for the good looking jerk. "So, I gathered all of my courage to head back out, but five of them came after me and I only survived because a crazy guy covered in blood fell down the stairs and they grabbed him instead."
"Yeah, I bumped into them on my way in." He informed her.
"Did you kill them?" She asked and he just nodded in response. "Good." She was clearly relieved by the information. "Then I ran back here and closed the door, only to see the guy waiting for me inside the kitchen." I don't like where this is going, at all! "Then he started to say stuff like "You're so beautiful", "I can protect you from the monsters", "Just come into my home and I can make you sure you're looked after" , and I just kept telling the creep that I didn't need his help and to please get away from me." Sophie was visibly repulsed by the entire situation. "But then he started to say stuff like, "You bitches always take advantage of nice guys like me", "You never appreciate the things I do for you", "It's always the good looking assholes like Bentley that gets the girl."" She made a painfully accurate impression of Frederico's whining. "I..." Sophie touched her black eye. "Slapped his face after he called you an asshole and he punched me afterwards." After telling what happened to Bentley, she widened her eyes and looked down to see what she was wearing. "W-why am I wearing this?!" That was her only question.
Oh shit... Bentley didn't know how to answer that. "When I got into the city, I checked each of your houses to see if I could find any trace of you guys. But then I decided to come home to check for any signs of my parents... Where I... Smelled your perfume and concluded that you were here." He explained to her. "Then I heard a noise coming from the corridor and it led me into the apartment where Frederico was placing his dead grandmother on top of her bed."
"Wait, she's dead?!" She asked him in surprise. "But I saw her in the corridor before I came back into the room.
"Oh god..." Bentley knew exactly what that meant. The poor woman probably tried to stop that creep.
Sophie probably figured it out as well, as she placed her hand on her mouth in shock. "His own grandmother?!" She asked in complete disbelief.
Bentley let out a heavy sigh in response to that fucked up situation. "I helped him place her on top of the bed, but then he tried to kick me out and on my way out, I saw my jacket on the sink of the bathroom." The jacket that he gave to Soph. "Then, I knew you were there and I searched for you until I found you inside his room tied to his bed... In your underwear." Naturally, Soph made a disgusted expression. "And... When I went to check on you, he came into the room with a sword covered in blood and tried to force me to leave." He scratched the back of his head. "So, I... Attacked him."
Sophie was immediately concerned. "Are you okay?!" That was her first question as he inspected Bentley for bruises.
"Oh please, I didn't even break a sweat against that fat asshole." Bentley spoke confidently. "But... Sophie... I don't know if he..." Did something to you before I got there. He was afraid to tell her that.
But he clearly didn't have to, as Sophie apparently got what he was trying to say and was visibly overwhelmed by the possibility. "Oh god, oh god..." She touched her face in clear shock, disgust and repulsion. With her whole body shaking at the prospect of being taken advantage of by that disgusting looking guy. "I... I need to..." The redhead girl walked past the blond boy to walk outside of the room. With Bentley following behind her and seeing her entering the bathroom that was located in front of the entrance of the kitchen.
Bentley sighed in response to that and made his way to the couch to wait. If he actually raped Sophie, I'm going to grab that sword and chop his head off with it. That was the only thing on the blond boy's mind as he stared at the sword that was on top of the small table in front of him. The sword was a bastard sword with a narrow ricasso and a wide, shallow fuller that runs almost the entire length of the blade, with a Gothic style hilt that was in the color black with small details in a bronze color. The sword was razor sharp, so Bentley decided to take it for himself to replace the machete that he broke.
...
...
...
...
The blond boy was forced to endure an extremely uncomfortable wait. Simply staring at the bathroom, waiting for Sophie to come out of it and tell him if she found any trace of... Rape. He removed the other glove from his hand, since he has been wearing them for a while and tapped his foot on the floor several times in anticipation. Eventually, however, she came out of it. With Bentley staring at her with his green eyes, he watched as she slowly approached the couch and sat beside him, hugging her legs afterwards.
...
...
...
"Well...?" Bentley asked in worry.
She takes a deep breath. "There was... Some of his... Stuff... On my legs..." The amount of disgust in her voice was painful to hear.
"Fuck..." Bentley touched his face in deep frustration.
"But," Sophie immediately continued. "That was it, only on my legs..." She affirmed him in clear relief.
"You sure?" He had to know.
"Yup, I'm still a virgin." Sophie spoke with full certainty in her voice.
But hearing that surprised Bentley since he had no idea that Sophie was still a virgin. Though, he got over his surprise fairly quickly since it was kind of understandable due to the fact that she never hangs out with anyone but him and the others. "Oh... okay..." Sighing in relief , he wrapped his arm around Sophie and she placed her head on his shoulder.
"Did you put this nightgown on me?" She asked him.
"It's my mother's." He answered her.
"Thanks."
...
...
...
...
They simply sat there in silence, digesting everything that happened while appreciating each other's company. But then came the dreaded question.
"What now?" Sophie asked Bentley.
Moving his head to look at his room in order to see the window, he saw that was almost completely dark and going out now would be suicide. "We'll stay here until morning and you'll take me to the spot where you last saw James and Tenn as soon as the sun goes up."
Sophie sighed in response and asked. "You think they're okay?" She asked him.
"I don't know, Sophie..." Bentley certainly hoped that they were okay but writing was on the wall. "But we have to at least try to find them."
"Yeah..." She snuggled closer to Bentley.
...
...
...
"How..." He decided to ask. "Was everyone after... You know?"
"Trust me, you don't wanna know..." Sophie seemed reluctant to tell him. "The fact that you're not dead is what really matters."
Bentley decided to not insist, but hearing that did not give him a good feeling about what his friends went through after his supposed death. Though he had to formulate a plan of how they would get to that area, he would have to follow Sophie's directions. Staring at his "belongings" that were on top of the table. Bentley saw the gun and remembered something. "There's a police officer that lives on the floor above, he could have ammunition." He spoke out loud for Sophie to hear him.
She moved her blue eyes to stare at him. "You're going there?"
"I should, he might even have another gun." He told her while staring at her with his green eyes.
"I don't like guns but... I'll take it..." That was her response. Considering that she probably had to run all the way there and after what happened with Frederico, she probably will want to have one at all times.
The blond boy simply nodded in response before he stood up from the couch. Then he picked up his knife, he contemplated picking up the sword, but with the narrow space of the corridors and the room, it would simply be impractical. After that, he opened his backpack and picked up a Heavy-Duty Flashlight since it was probably dark outside. Holding his knife in a reverse grip, he slowly walked towards the door with Sophie following behind him. "I'll be back."
"Don't take too long, okay?" Sophie clearly didn't want to be left alone for long. Not that Bentley can or would blame her as he really just wanted to stay in the room with her, especially after he just spent several days by himself.
"Okay..." The two of them hugged each other tightly before he opened the door. Where his suspicion was corrected and that the corridor room was dark. He turned the flashlight on right away and searched the spooky corridor for any undead. "Lock the door and only open it if you hear my voice." Sophie nodded in response before she closed the door behind Bentley.
Shit, shit, shit, shit... Bentley thought in deep worry as he walked down the dark corridor with nothing but a flashlight and a knife. Holding the knife in a reverse grip, he was ready to stab anything that came his way. But he was quietly hoping to not bump into anything. The corridor that he walked down a thousand of times now looks like something straight out of a horror movie that made Bentley depressed in more ways that it was supposed to be possible. Eventually, he reached the stairs with no problem on the way, but he kept his guard up as he climbed the steps slowly. Trying to hear any noise or something that might indicate that there's one or more of them upstairs. Which turned out to be the right decision as he heard steps coming from upstairs, causing him to prepare himself. Once he arrived at the fourth floor corridor, Bentley saw one of them bashing on a door, clearly trying to get him. But as soon as Bentely pointed the light at it, it moved it's head to look at Bentley. Thankfully, it was just one and Bentley only had to stab it on the head as soon as it got close to him. After killing it, he basically moved forward but he did spare a look at the door that the Walker was bashing on. But he eventually decided to ignore it, since he didn't want to be there any longer than he had to. The Police Officer's room was Room 406, which it didn't take long for him to find it.
Sadly, it was locked. So he took his knife, and at the exact height of the doorknob, inserted it between the crack of the door and the doorframe. Probe around until he felt a hunk of metal extruding out of the door, He leveraged his knife and pushed the latch into the door. Breaking the lock. Thanks, uncle Lenny. He learned that trick from his favorite uncle, Lenny Jones. Okay, here we go.
Slowly, he opened the door and found himself inside of the Police Officer's apartment. Bentley didn't know the guy, but he bumped into him from time to time. The interior of the apartment was different from, mostly because it was a one room apartment. The first thing he comes across, it's the living room. A completely messy living room that was filled with empty beer cans and empty pizza boxes that was around a nice looking chair in front of a large TV. I guess he was a junk food and TV after work kind of guy. Bentley thought as he illuminated the kitchen that was right next to the living room, and saw that the sink was filled with dirty dishes. Not that he was surprised since the state of the apartment didn't really indicate that he was a clean guy. He probably keeps it in the bedroom or something. He searched for the door that led to the bathroom and managed to find the door behind the TV. Walking slowly, he approached the door and slowly opened.
The bedroom was as bland as it goes, just bed and wardrobe with absolutely nothing standing out. After checking the room for Walkers, he entered and started to search for ammo or something. Problem was, there wasn't much to check, the only spots were the wardrobe and the bed. First, he opened the wardrobe, and there was nothing but business clothes. But that was it, there was only clothes inside. Which left him with only the bed to check. Please, have something... He begged. Approaching the bed and kneeling down to check under the bed. There was something there and it turned out to be a wooden box that had a lock on it. "Hmm..." Picking up the box, he placed it on top of the empty bed before he smashed the lock with the bottom of the knife and placed it back on his sheath after the lock was broken. "Yes..." He spoke happily as he saw that there was a handgun and three boxes of 9×19mm Parabellum. What the fuck? That was his reaction when he saw the handgun inside. Glock 26 , why the hell does he have this gun? The gun inside the box was Glock 26 , a subcompact variant designed for concealed carry which is why Bentley was confused. Maybe this is a gift or he simply wanted something he could fit in his pocket? He tried to understand. Whatever, Gloc is a good gun so it will do. He was actually lucky since he was able to find something reliable that he could give to Sophie. Taking the gun and the ammunition boxes, he placed them inside the pockets of his pants and he placed the gun on the empty holster before making his way to the door.
"Freeze motherfucker!" Only for him to be greeted by a guy wearing a black hoodie pointing a gun at his face.
"What the?" That was his reaction as he saw the guy. "Where did you come from?" He asked the guy.
"Shut the fuck up and hand over what you got asshole." The guy spoke like a robber while pointing the gun at him with Side grip. The gun he was holding was a Beretta M9, but any idiot that holds a gun like that probably doesn't know anything about it.
"A knife, a flashlight, an old gun that probably doesn't work and bullets that aren't for the type of gun that you're carrying." Bentley gave him a description of what he got, though he was lying about the last bit.
"Hand over the flashlight!" The guy demanded, probably because it was dark as hell now and the flashlight was the only source of light around.
"Okay..." He nodded. "Catch." That was the last thing he said, before he tossed the flashlight into the guy's face.
"AH!" It landed on the guy's forehead. As soon as he heard the grunt, Bentley closed the distance and grabbed the gun from his hand. Something that was really easy due to the way that he was holding a gun. "Motherfucker!" The yelled in anger as he held his forehead in pain.
Bentley's response was to basically try to shoot the guy in the leg. Only to discover that the gun wasn't real. "A toy gun?" The blond boy asked the guy after tossing the gun on the floor. "Seriously?"
"Shut the fuck up!" He tried to punch Bentley, but he simply moved his head back to evade it.
"Just get out of here before I beat your ass." Bentley told the guy in deep annoyance.
"I'm a black belt Chun Kuk Do, asshole!" The guy boasted as he got into a fighting pose.
But Bentley was confused. "What the hell is that?"
The room was completely dark with only the flashlight on the floor as the source of light. But it was in a spot that illuminated the two of them enough to see one another. The guy tried to charge at Bentley, who simply responded by throwing a haymaker into the guy's face. The punch caused him to fall on his ass. But he stood up fairly quickly, and tried to hit him again with a roundhouse kick to the ribs, but Bentley catched the kick into his armpit, grabbed him by the hoodie with his other hand and tossed him into the TV that was behind him. "AAH!" The guy grunted as he fell on the TV. Damn, this guy is really weak. Black belt or not, the guy was really out of shape. "You fucker!" Instead of taking the hint that he had no chance against him, the idiot decided to keep going. He stood up and tried to punch Bentley with a right hook. Only for the blond boy to block the punch that he tried to throw at him with his right forearm and headbutt the guy on the nose. Then Bentley kneed him on the balls with his right knee before grabbing his head, pulling it down and hitting his face with the same knee after he bent over in pain. Knocking him out cold.
"Moron..." That was Bentley's response before he moved to grab the flashlight and illuminated his face. "Ah... Vic." He immediately recognized the guy once he took a good look at his face. His name was Vic, and he was basically a wannabe gangster that lived in his building. He was a scrawny looking guy with hollow cheeks, a weak chin and a big nose.
"Yeah, the asshole tried to rob me before."
After knocking Vic out, he basically dragged him into the bedroom and basically pushed the wardrobe on him before locking the door of the bedroom and blocking the entrance with a chair. Then he went back to his home where Sophie was waiting for him. The two decided to take a shower, despite the water being cold. Currently, Bentley was sitting by the door of the bathroom, waiting for Sophie to finish her shower.
"Are you sure it's safe to leave him there?" Sophie asked as he heard her turning off the shower.
"By the time he wakes up, leaves the apartment and figures it out where we are staying, we will probably not be around anymore." He informed her. "Besides, we got guns now, so..."
"Yeah..." Sophie replied. "Ummm... Are these... Violet's?" She was referring to the underwear that he got for her.
"Yes," Violet practically left half of her stuff in his room. "They don't fit?"
"No, they do fit, it's just weird." She pointed out. "Don't your parents or Clementine ever complain about Violet sleeping in your room?"
"No, mom and dad understood Violet's situation and were happy to let her stay." Alcoholic dad and absent mother. "And I think it's common knowledge that Violet is a lesbian, Sophie." Considering that she's dating your twin sister. "
"Y-yeah, you're right." She obviously realized that it was a dumb question. "Speaking of which, do you know if anyone else is..." She was asking if she knew if anyone else in their group of friends was also homosexual.
"James." He responded.
"What?!" She was clearly surprised. "James is gay?" It's surprising because James never really gave any indication that he likes guys , Bentley only discovered it because of the love confession that he received from James.
"Yes, he told me." I'm not gonna tell anyone about the love confession.
"Wow..." She was still surprised. "Anyone else?"
"Well... Clementine is bisexual." She actually told him that she likes girls too at one point.
"I know that..." Sophie didn't seem surprised at that information. "She actually asked Minnie and Violet about it."
"Oh... Okay..." Bentley didn't know that, but he can understand. "What about you?" In all honesty, Sophie was the only one that he didn't know in regards to that.
"I don't know..." That was her answer, but Bentley was confused.
"You don't know?" Bentley asked. "How do you don't know this type of thing?"
"I never felt attracted to boys or girls, so I don't know." She answered his question.
"So you're asexual or something like that?" He was curious.
"I don't know, maybe..." Sophie sounded unsure. Then she finally opened the door, still wearing his mother's nightgown. "I can't believe we're actually talking about that in a situation like this." She acknowledge how stupid it was.
"Actually, I'm glad that we're talking about this in a situation like this because it distracts us from what is going on outside." He acknowledges as well.
"Yeah..." Sophie looked down sadly in response to what he said. "I'm gonna... See if I can cook something for us to eat with whatever is in the kitchen." She informed me.
"I'm starving so... Yes please." He accepted with a smile.
Sophie smiled too, before she actually frowned. "No offense but, you should really take a shower as well."
"Yup..." Truth was, he was simply waiting for Sophie to get out of the bathroom. So he walked past her and went to take a cold shower.
After taking a shower, changing his clothes and eating some spaghetti that Sophie managed to prepare for the two of them. Bentley reloaded the handgun with the bullets that he found and gave a basic lesson on how to use the one that he got for her.
Once that was over, they both went to sleep. On his parent's bed.
"Are you sure about this?" The blond boy asked as the redhead girl laid next to him. "I can sleep in my room."
"No offense, but after all the shit that happened so far, I just feel more comfortable with you around." Especially, since he placed the loaded handguns on the drawer next to the bed just in case.
"Yeah," Bentley was wearing gray sweatpants and a white tank top. Which was basically his pajamas. "Okay..." He actually had no problem with sleeping with Sophie, it was just that, he couldn't stop thinking about his parents and staying there only made him think about them more.
"Hey..." Sophie touched his face . "They were probably on the evacuation route, so they could be fine." She reassured him while touching his face and staring deeply into his green eyes with her beautiful blue ones.
"I know... It's just..." Bentley was afraid of that. "What if I never see them again?" He looked down sadly.
"Hey..." She moved his head back up. "If they are alive, the possibility is there, but right now, we have to worry about finding everyone else tomorrow." That was their main focus at the moment.
"You're right. " He agreed with her.
"Come on." She invited him to the bed.
With that Bentley Jones and Sophie Juno laid down on the bed that belonged to Bentley's parents. Getting comfortable under the blankets, but before they went to sleep, the blond boy decided to ask.
"I never got to ask, but how are you feeling?" He asked because she was sick not long ago.
"Much better now, thanks to you." Probably because of the meds that he got for her.
They smiled at each other, before they actually got closer and snuggled with Bentley. But before they closed their eyes to go to sleep, Sophie had something to say.
"BJ..."
"Yes?"
"I'm really, really, really glad, that you're not dead..." She revealed it to him.
...
...
...
"Me too." He really was.
Thanks everyone for reading this chapter.
{Honestly, I wasn't going to update this story now, but since there was a bunch of leftover stuff from the previous chapter that I ended up cutting, I'll simply post it already.}
Okay, I loved the idea but I really need to ask, since all of this takes place on the TV Show universe.
Do you have a fancast for the characters that are from the game? Mostly Bentley's friends.
I know what you mean, and I understand, I enjoy when authors give a description of certain things myself.
To answer your question: (These are the most popular fancast, that I happen to agree with to a degree... If you don't, you can imagine them looking however you like.)

was negan his old teacher.
Yes, and sadly, Bentley was his favorite student.
Also, please stop sending me those story requests, I will consider The Boys one, but I can't do the rest since I never saw any of those shows or movies.
Hey wanted to ask to have you had a chance to watch Hazbin Hotel and Helluva Boss?
Also by chance are you a fan of the anime Overlord and Code Geass
Nope, sorry, too busy with demeaning part time jobs to get by.
Never saw Overlord , but I did saw Code Geass but it was a while ago and I barely remember it.
Well it's good that Bentley has adjusted to apocalyptic living even being kinda casual with the walkers is a nice touch
Also now after this chapter he can be more cautious entering places to avoid getting surprised shotgunned and now he knows to never put his knife down and leave it there
Figured there was a 95% chance Frederico would try to kill him and hope to god he didn't get to do anything to Sophie still at least Bentley killed him
Ah well being immune to turning into a zombie is still a massive boon in this world even if it also would have been neat to have the Walkers be confused for a lack of better term about Bentley
Also shame about the no harem
Still pretty cool to learn he's already friends with Negan guessing Negan was Bentley's schools couch and the two struck up a unlikely friendship
Bentley kind of has this chilled out attitude towards the apocalypse which is something that draws people to him.
That is a lesson that he learned the hard way.
Frederico is a very twisted example of Nice Guy Syndrome.
Well...
Ahhh...
Let's just say that... Bentley kind of involuntarily became Negan's favorite student.
interesting story In what direction will you write in the future?
A giant and somewhat random mashup of every single Walking Dead media. With the major change already being displayed at this chapter.
Think about making it Multi, with all the dead around
there will be a lot of 'repopulation' to do JAJAJAJA
HAHAHA...
Interesting story.
If Bentley is immune then he needs to be careful, because if the wrong people find out, then he could be in some serious trouble. Sophie will likely know, considering she saw him bite before which brings me to an idea on how Bentley was separated from them in the first place. He probably got bite protecting Clementine and his friends, they either didn't have a weapon to put him out his misery, or they didn't have the will to do so they just left him, and the next day Bentley realized he was immune but by then they were long gone.
Here's an next place that Bentley might go looking for Clementine, in this story her dad is Lee. In the game, Lee's parents own a Pharmacy Drugstore in Macon and his brother B. Everett works there. Clementine likely has an okay relationship with her dad, so the same is likely be for her grandparents and uncle for that matter.
Does Lee still accidentally kill the State Senator in a fight because he was sleeping with his wife?
As for Negan, given he is already friends with Bentley, I guess he was Bentley's gym couch. Negan was known improving students on their weaknesses and molding them into stronger individuals, and he was a very inspirational man.
Thanks.
As you saw above, Bentley was bitten by the zombified Rick Grimes (Who never woke up from his coma) while he and Marlon were searching for medicine for a sick Sophie. Once they came back, he told his friends to just go without him and that he would find a way to end himself (He found the handgun that he's currently carrying.) But then, sometime passed and nothing happened and before he knew it, he had to try to catch up to his friends.
Bentley will actually consider that if he doesn't find them.
No, he actually killed one of her co-workers that she was having an affair with and was sentenced to ten years due to his clean record, and was sent to West Georgia Correctional Facility
Bentley moved to Reston, Virginia for a time due to his mother's work and ended up going to the local high school where Negan was a coach.
