Note: Again, there's a bit of a time jump in this chapter, which you'll find out soon enough.
The Growing House of El
Kayla was in her office when there was a knock on the door. She paused in recording for season 2 of Harry Potter as she knew what this was and wondered how she'd get about it. "Come in," Kayla called, turning in her chair to see Zari walk into the office. The girl had been in here before, so was used to the array of different equipment.
"Hi," Zari asked, a little timidly as she took a seat on the piano stool.
"How are you? Since… you know," Kaya asked, not sure how to address things since Zari's parents' death. Kayla had been with the girl every step of the way, but never knew exactly how the girl felt. She had some idea from her own experience but hers was also worst and better in a way. Worst that she lost an entire planet, better because she had Kara.
"I'm okay… you and Caitlin have been very accommodating," Zari stated. "And Lucy's been really helpful keeping me busy." With her parents acting as her agents, their death had left a void in Zari's professional life which Lucy had filled.
"Thank you," Kayla smiled, deciding to cut to the chase. "I know living with different people can be complicated, and I'm glad you've adapted, but I'm about to make your life more difficult."
"Oh?" Zari asked, raising her eyebrow.
"You see, I'm not just an actress," Kayla started.
"You're Supergirl too," Zari stated matter-of-factly, not even batting an eyelid to this.
"I'm… what? How did you…?" Kayla paused at this reveal, not sure how to respond. She wondered if, in the excitement, Ruby had told Zari, even though she'd asked the girl not to say anything to Zari until she was ready.
"The night my parents died. The filming set was 10 minutes from the hotel away by car, but we got there in 10 seconds," Zari informed Kayla. "I may be young, but I'm not stupid."
"I was never going to say you're stupid," Kayla defended, chuckling in spite of herself.
"And considering yours and Barry Allen's special bond, I would hazard a guess that he's the Flash, he has the right build for it," Zari mused, a smirk on her face now as Kayla raised an eyebrow, shocked. "Which makes Krypto Superdog," she added, the dog lifting his head up to her from Kayla's feet, but he didn't react much as he was snoozing.
"Well, yes," Kayla stated. "Barry is the Flash, I'm Supergirl, and Krypto is Superdog. But this has to remain our secret, okay? The only people you can talk to about this is in the family, that is to say Caitlin, Daphne, Ruby, Marley, my sister, Barry and Topar. The Grants know as well along with the Luthors," she explained.
"Well, they do have yours and Caitlin's daughter growing in that artificial womb," Zari nodded at this. "What about Superman?"
"My cousin Clark," Kayla said. "I'll give you a list of people who know."
Zari gave a little giggle. "Okay," Zari said.
Kayla smiled at this. "I can trust you to keep this secret?" Kayla asked.
"It's not the only big secret I've been entrusted with," Zari smiled, standing up at this.
"You have more big secrets?" Kayla paused at this, but Zari put a finger to her lips in a shushing manner. "Got it," Kayla chuckled, hands in the air now. "I got to continue these recordings for season 2."
"That was fast," Zari said.
"Seems they want to get all the voices done fast. Since it's almost word for word the books it's easy," Kayla said with a smile.
-Beautiful-
The next day Caitlin and Daphne were in the kitchen. "I can't believe she's making a guest house in the back just so I have an office," Caitlin said as she sat in the kitchen with Daphne.
"You gave your wife a problem. You know her solutions," Daphne said as she drank her coffee. "Besides, it's not even a real dent in the money she made from Wicked, right?"
"That's true," Caitlin said with a nod.
"And on random note, how much did she make from Wicked and how much is she getting from the Totems movies?" Daphne asked.
"Wicked, I think about $15 million," Caitlin said; Daphne practically coughed out her coffee. "That's up front. She's going to get more from theaters sales and she's also going to get money in from toys being sold with her likeness. They are making a Glinda barbie doll."
"And the Totems movies?" Daphne asked.
"Not really sure," Caitlin said. "Probably the same ballpark. Why so curious?"
"No reason," Daphne said, grabbing a piece of toast and eating it as her sister tilted her head at her.
"Daphne," it was Kayla coming in from the back. "Did you steal my cellphone and text John about putting a pool in the back?" John Stewart was behind her; Caitlin liked the man who was Kayla's architect and builder.
"Well, I've got to go and do a photo…" Daphne started, but Caitlin grabbed her arm and gave her a look. "Fine, yes. I did."
"Daphne!" Caitlin snapped, glaring at her.
"If I could interrupt," John said. "Since I already made a pool design and got the equipment ordered and all the permits needed it would be a waste of money if we didn't go through with it. I can also add a door to the outside for the bathroom in what will now be a pool house."
"We're getting a pool?" It was Ruby looking up from the couch. Marley was there too but was still doing her homework and hadn't heard the conversation. Zari looked over but didn't seem to have the nerve to ask – she had been reading a script for an audition Lucy had got her for a TV show. She was still working on the first Totems movie with Kayla, but with Lucy as her new agent, Zari now had more roles coming to her.
"There is a lot of room back there," Caitlin sighed, seeming to break under her daughter's look.
Everyone turned to Kayla. "Fine, put it in," Kayla said, shaking her head. "But make sure there is enough room still in the back for the kids to run around and play outside the pool."
"Big enough backyard. I'll even add a swing set back there for you," John said with a wink and returned to the garden
"Why do we have such a big backyard?" Caitlin asked. This was a nice neighborhood with big houses and big yards, but theirs seems extremely big for the size of the house.
"Oh, I bought the property that was behind mine and incorporated it into one big yard," Kayla said making everyone stare at her. "I wanted a big yard for Krypto to run around in." Krypto and Roxy both gave a bark at that. "But anyway, Lena called before the pool drama with some news."
"News? Good or bad?" Caitlin asked, wondering if something had happened to Danielle in the artificial womb.
"Caitlin, nothing bad," Kayla said, seeing her wife was tense – every time Kayla said she had talked to the Luthors or been to Luthor Corp., Caitlin got tense. "It's good news. The womb has identified Danielle is ready. We can take her out today."
Caitlin seemed stunned until Daphne gave her a slight push. "Yes, yes!" Caitlin finally said. "Let's meet our daughter." Caitlin jumped up and kissed Kayla, who kissed back.
"Does this mean no Trick or Treating," Ruby asked. It was Halloween after all.
"I'll bring you later," Daphne said with a wink.
"Okay let's get to the car." Kayla frowned at this. With all the workers around though, she couldn't use her powers. "Ruby, get Marley attention and get the two of you ready," Kayla said as Ruby jumped up and tapped her sister, who had been completely oblivious about to what was happening. Kayla saw Ruby sign to her that their little sister was coming. Marley eyes got wide and she jumped up. "Zari? I know your excited for this audition," Kayla started; Zari had been determined to get this new part since Lucy had mentioned it. Kayla practically had to tear the audition script out of her hands for them to do practice and film for the Totems movie. "But don't you want to come and meet Danielle?"
"You want me to come?" Zari asked, surprised.
"Zari, how many times do I need to tell you? You're part of this family now," Kayla said. "So, put the script away and let's go."
"What about Kara?" Danielle asked.
"I told her to come," Kayla said with a nod, having thought it to her sister right away. Kara had been paying attention through their bond to see if they were going to bring her out today or wait. "Now we'll see if Barry and Rae can get Kara and Topar there."
"That will be a challenge. She's the size of a whale now," Danielle said to receive a slight slap on the back from Caitlin who despite the slap had a smirk on her face.
-Beautiful-
"Barry!" Kara called to her now-husband. After deciding to get married, the two had wed right away in the Fortress, with close family and friends present. Kara had also changed her last name to Masters-Allen, deciding to keep Mon's human last name as well as taking up Barrys.
"What? Is it time?" Barry asked as he ran in at super speed. "Are in you labor?"
"No," Kara said and then made a face. "Some false labor again but no, we need to go to Luthor Corp."
"If you're not in labor…?" Barry started.
"Kayla and Caitlin are taking Danielle out of the womb today," Kara said.
"Seriously? But our kids have been in you about a month or two longer," Barry complained.
"It's a Kryptonian artificial womb," Kara explained, making Barry frowned. "The technology is more advanced, able to grow a child at the rate the parents want. Anyway, I want to be there to see my niece."
"No problem. Rae will grab Topar and we'll go," Barry said kissing his wife and calling for his little sister. Kara moaned again.
"Fake labor. Got to hate it," Kara mumbled, used to it.
-Beautiful-
"You realize we took a car and got here before you?" Kayla said when Barry finally arrived with Kara; Rae had arrived a few minutes ago with Topar while Mik and Imra were there as Mik had taken his nephew.
"Kara is not easy to carry right now," Barry stated, taking a deep breath and saw the glare from Kara. "It's true! I'm carrying three when I run with you."
Kayla chuckled as she turned to the artificial womb.
"You ready?" Lena asked, having been waiting patiently.
"We are," Kayla said giving Caitlin a smile.
Lena went over to the womb and pushed the correct button. The amniotic fluids inside drained and the top opened with a small hiss. "Want to do the honor, Caitlin?" Lena asked as Caitlin rushed over and picked up her now-crying daughter and wrapped her in a blanket.
Kayla came up and smiled at the crying baby, glad to see she was healthy.
"Mommies!" Ruby yelled out impatient.
"Come here," Caitlin said smiling at Ruby calling Kayla mommy too. Marley seemed to want to but kept going back and forth between 'mom' and 'Kayla' for Kayla. "Everyone… meet Danielle." Ruby and Marley came over and looked at the girl in their mother's arms. Zari, very slowly, came over and seemed unsure. Daphne came to Caitlin's other side. "I think it's time for your other mommy to hold you."
"Yes, I think…" Kayla started, but paused as she felt pain from Kara. "Kara… that's not fake labor," she turned to her sister.
"Yeah, I don't think so anymore either," Kara stated as she called out in pain and Kayla mimicked her. At that, Kara's waters broke. "My waters..."
"We can see," Imra said. "Come on, lay down."
"The babies are coming. Now?" Barry said, seeming nervous.
"If you faint again, I will punch you," Kara said as Imra helped her to a medical bed they had in the room.
"I will hold you later," Kayla said to her baby and kissed Caitlin's cheek before getting her Supergirl outfit on and jumping out a window. Krypto, who had been sitting in the room, jumped out the window to follow her – and it was only Topar grabbing Roxy that stopped her from following her mate.
"Where is she going?" Zari asked.
"Africa," Caitlin guessed, knowing Kayla wanted as far away from here as possible and Caitlin really couldn't blame her. She didn't need to feel the birth of her two nephews the same way Kara would. "Okay, Mik, Rae, Daphne, get the kids out of here. They don't need to see this. Zari, you go with them too." Caitlin smiled at Danielle and then put her in a crib Lena had placed in the room. "Barry hold your wife's hand. Now who's delivering this baby?"
"We were talking to Prime about their Birther doing it but Prime not picking up," Imra stated, having gone to the computer to call Prime, "and even if they did, the Birther has to get here from Krypton," Imra mused as Barry went to Kara's side, "and Mon delivered Topar. You're a doctor, Cait."
"Not that type of doctor!" Caitlin pointed out. She had never delivered a baby before and wasn't sure she remembered the information about it she got in medical school.
"Oh, Karry Caitlin. It's in the system: 'If you need help delivering a half-Kryptonian baby, call Karry's Caitlin'," Lena quoted, taking over from Imra calling Karry Universe, asking their Gideon A.I. to transfer her to their Caitlin.
"Um, hello?" Karry Caitlin said, answering the phone.
"This is Beautiful Lena. Can you come here? Our Kara is in labor and…" Lena said
"On my way," Karry Caitlin sighed, cutting off Lena who turned to look at her friends with a raised eyebrow. Kara gave a cry of pain at that as Barry held onto her hand.
"Karry's coming to help," Barry told Kara, for lack of anything else to say.
"I may be in labor but I'm not deaf!" Kara snapped as, in that moment, from the system allocated to a section of the room, a portal opened and out came another Caitlin.
"Hi. Okay, let's see what we got here…" Karry Caitlin was straight to business, but was also momentarily distracted by Danielle calling out. "Oh, I am guessing that one was from an artificial womb?"
"Yes," Beautiful Caitlin confirmed for her counterpart.
"We tried Prime as they said they'd help, but they're busy," Lena stated, moving beside Caitlin now.
"Mavis is upgrading," Caitlin stated distractedly, looking over Kara now.
"Who?" Imra asked.
"Their A.I." Caitlin explained. "She's gone black for a few hours."
"That's got to be tricky," Lena voiced, knowing Prime's A.I., which was similar to Karry's Gideon.
"They'll survive. Now, Kara I am going to need you to breath," Karry Caitlin said to Kara. "And don't worry, you're not the first Kara I have helped delivered a Karry baby for. In fact, you're not even the second, and if whatever Overlord controls this multiverse has their say, this is practically second career for me, maybe third after being a nanny for others' kids…"
"How many Karas have you helped deliver?" Kara asked, ignoring Karry Caitlin's other comments.
"Well, my own Kara; Mutant's Kara, and most recently Bounty Kara – their Alex was meant to do it but she was in surgery at the time and they needed someone else fast," Karry Caitlin explained. "And all of those were randomly twins so six Karry babies happy and healthy."
"Well let's hope it's eight now. Two boys," Barry informed Karry Caitlin.
"You're going to have to show me how you got around the Kryptonian powers and discovered that," Karry Caitlin pointed out, surprised, but didn't allow this to distract her.
…
It took several hours for both babies to be born, but when they were, Beautiful's Caitlin got the kids back and Topar ran to meet his two new little brothers in Kara's arms. Barry was smiling as he hugged his wife and held a hand out for Rae to join them.
It was a few minutes after the birth when Kayla returned with Krypto, who was now also in his Superdog outfit.
"I wondered where the other Kara was," Karry Caitlin stated as Kayla paused.
"Multiverse?" Kayla asked.
"Karry," Karry Caitlin stated.
"Oh. Tell the Paragons of Love hello from me," Kayla stated, as Karry Caitlin chuckled. "But now I think it's time for me to hold my daughter before I hold my new nephews," Kayla said pressing her necklace, so her Supergirl outfit retreated back inside, and Beautiful's Caitlin happily gave Danielle over to Kayla. "Hi Dani."
"We had our kids on the same day," Kara said, still laying on the bed, having to smile at that.
"The media is going to have a field day with this," Barry stated and everyone knew he was right. "When do we have to tell them?"
"Let's just enjoy this for a moment," Kayla said with a smile to her brother-in-law, passing Danielle back her wife as she moved to sit on the bed next to Kara, taking the baby on her sister's arms into her own. "Which one is this?" she asked of the baby in her arms.
"That's Kelvin," Barry stated, moving over to his own sister-in-law, "and this is Asher," he rocked the baby in his arms.
"The House of El keeps growing," Kayla stated, looking between the twins and back to her own Danielle.
"I like it that way," Kara commented back with a smile as she looked at her niece too.
Post Chapter Note: And that's it for now. I hope you enjoyed. I know some of you may have been expecting a Karry wedding, but considering we never saw Kayla and Caitlin's wedding, it made sense to keep Karry's wedding out of this too.
Now on to schedule for what's next. As some of you may know, I've been having trouble with the next segment of Karry Universe, so I had to start New Justice instead, meaning next week starts six weeks of New Justice, THEN we have Karry Universe after that – six chapters of each, on a revolving basis until the next Karry segment is done.
Please REVIEW.
Karry Master OUT!
