Ariel leaned her head on his shoulder, "Oh, I sure do.", smiling and looking at the surfing body of Zuri as she sliced and moved through the waves on her board, looking quite peaceful yet there's definitely tension somewhere.
Eric spoke softly, "We will wait for her to finish surfing, that way she's relaxed, and we can then talk to her, yeah?", and Ariel hummed in approval with a little nod.
"Sounds like a plan.", Ariel chuckled as she leaned over and kissed him on the cheek. "You don't know how much those words haunted me over the years.", Eric said.
"I know... I'm sorry.", Ariel whispered as she held his hand and squeezed it tightly. Eric sighed softly, "It isn't your fault, past or present. I should have known that you were expecting me to do something out of love...I guess I didn't want to overwhelm you when you were experiencing your first full day of being human since you came in like late afternoon.".
"Look, Eric... if this indeed does work... there will be so much time for us to truly repair... everything that we lost. It'll be nothing more than a delay, that's all.", Ariel told him with another kiss.
Eric smiled warmly, "There's nothing else better than having you and Zuri, and I know your father will be quite surprised, but he will be overjoyed all the same.", with a glance at Zuri who was stroking up another wave.
"Surprised about me or the fact that Zuri and I are sharing you?", Ariel teased. Eric chuckled, "Mostly you, definitely, but a bit about you girls sharing me, he will know for sure when he has enough of hugging and apologizing towards you.".
Ariel smiled, "I can believe that.", caressing his arm, "There are rare stories of people sharing in love, it's not unheard of.".
"Khan and Tarzan of the Congo with their queen Jane did it. At least that's what Zuri told me. Honestly surprised that never came up now that I think about it.", Eric said.
Ariel nodded, "I know. I have watched over the war, Eric. And I have talked to Jane in the heavens. She greatly misses her husbands and children but is happy that the Congo is won back to the right hands, after Clayton and Scar. She is now relieved that her family is safe.".
Eric sighed, "So many lives lost in the war, and for what? Power and greed?", and Ariel nodded, "The war was and is wasteful and dangerous, but many people knows that it's getting close to being over in ways.".
"True. All the same, we will keep an eye out for Zuri and our friends.", Eric replied with a nod. "And when it's finally over, we can truly enjoy life once again.", Ariel sighed as she leaned back into Eric as Zuri got tired of her surfing and slowly came back ashore to them.
Eric smiled warmly, "You are truly right, my little mermaid.", watching Zuri pick up her surfboard, walking up and out of the crashing waves, and with a proud smile, "Did you see me?".
Ariel nodded, "You were wonderful as always, Zuri. No wonder why they made you a champion on Earth.", and Zuri blushed, "Thanks, Ariel. So, what's up? Between waves, I saw you talking, and it looked serious. Are you two okay?".
Eric chuckled, "Sharp-eyed as always, Zuri...", before looking at Ariel who nodded, and Eric patted the ground in front of him and Ariel, "Why don't you sit down? We need to talk with you about something important.".
"I know that we should...", Zuri sighed as she sat down with them. "Something that we honestly should've done a bit sooner in a way.".
Ariel's eyes widened, "But we haven't even hinted at it!", and Zuri smiled wryly, "I may be a free spirit and a soldier, but I am clever as heck.", before looking at them, "This is my journey. I have listened quite intentionally at my friends' stories of their journeys...And to be honest, I'm terrified, but I trust you two...", wringing her hands.
"And we do too... after all the time we've spent here.", Eric said. "It is strange to say how we've bonded in your mind and all, but it is very much the truth.".
Zuri exhaled, feeling her heart swell upon hearing that, and two tears slipped out of her eyes, and Eric/Ariel reached out to wipe the tears with one hand each on the cheeks, and Ariel spoke softly, "It's up to you, Zuri, to do what you decide to do.", and Eric nodded in agreement, "What she said.".
Zuri gave a little laugh, hearing the Earth phrase come out of Eric, and she reached up to touch their hands, smiling a little, and took a deep breath, "I'm not ready yet, but can I watch you two first? I've always wondered about how a merman and mermaid does it...".
