Chapter Three: The Dragons go to Town
Pearl took a deep breath and calms down enough to look at the bank notice in her hand. Still not wanting to believe about losing her farm, she looks off into the distance as she lets the notice fall from her hand. The mixed feelings Pearl had caused her to sway. She clutched her head and fell backwards, only to be caught by Kestrel and Kinkajou. Pearl looked to the two dragons and said, "That sure the took the starch right out of me."
Kestrel and Kinkajou helped Pearl over to the house. Tsunami couldn't help but feel bad for them as she watched from the gate. Feeling woozy as she removed her arms from Kestrel and Kinkajou's shoulders, Pearl leaned against one of the support beams and let loose a defeated sigh. Kestrel and Kinkajou watched with worry as Pearl made her way into the house. But before she walked through the door, Pearl glanced back and said, "I am sorry, girls." Pearl looked really defeated as she said, "But I'm just plum out of ideas."
Then without another word, she walked into her house. Everyone looked to each other, unsure of what to do from there. The one to break the silence was Topps as he looked around and said, "Well, I think we all know what happens now."
"Erh, Topps!" Kestrel growled. Then she warned, "Don't you start."
"Now we all get eaten." Topps bluntly said. Kestrel then said with a glare, "Topps?"
"What? What?" Topps questioned. Then gesturing in the direction of the town he said, "You don't think people in town eat animals?"
"But who would eat a chicken?" Audrey asked as if it were unheard of with a chuckle. Tsunami stepped up and said, "Come on, you guys. There's gotta be something that we can do."
"What? What could we do?" Audrey asked, feeling that there wasn't much. Porky groaned before saying, "This just isn't fair."
"Fair!" Tsunami said, getting an idea. Then she suggested, "Good call, Curly!"
"It's Porky." Porky politely corrected. Tsunami nodded and politely said, "Porky."
"Uh, what is?" Porky asked, getting back on the subject. Then the Seawing said, "Listen. What would you say if I told you that you could win big money-" She walked around the animals as she continued, "and see beautiful downtown Chugwater-" then she ended it by saying, "if you went to the County Fair?"
"Ohh." Most of the farm animals said while Topps just rolled his eyes. With an eye roll as she knew that it wouldn't work, Kestrel started to say, "Thank you for your input, Tsunami, but-"
"Come on!" Daffy interrupted. He pumped a wing as he said, "Let the new cow talk!"
"New cow! New cow!" Everyone started chanting. Tsunami felt a little loved while Kestrel relented and gave the Seawing a deadpanned look. Tsunami looked to the older dragon and said, "Come on, K. You've got a real good-lookin' bunch of animals here." Tsunami looked over them while saying, "I am seeing some real potential with this group."
"Aw, shucks." Daffy bashfully said while rubbing the back of his head with his wing. Tsunami then said, "Now, the county fair is just two weeks away. I say we go to town, butter up that sheriff's Horse and get him to give us a little more time."
Kinkajou looked to the ground as she thought about it, and figured that it wouldn't hurt. Walking over to the gate, Kinkajou used her prehensile tail to grab the notice. Walking back she said, "Then what are we waiting for, Tsunami?" She sounded excited as she said, "Let's go!"
"That's right." Tsunami said with a nod. Looking over to the other dragon she asked, "What do you say, Kestrel?"
Kestrel scoffed and then said, "Absolutely not." Then she sounded and looked prideful when she said, "I am not going to abandon Pearl in her hour of need for such a ridiculous plan."
The other animals looked to each other while Tsunami and Kinkajou gave her mixed expressions as Kestrel said, "She would be very devastated if were to find us missing." Then with a shake of her head the Skywing said, "As far as I'm concerned, that's not an option."
"All right. Suit yourself." Tsunami said with a shrug. Seeing as they wouldn't be able to change her mind, she turned to the gate and said to Kinkajou, "Come on, Kinkajou. We've got a farm to save."
Tsunami started to walk to the gate while taking the notice from Kinkajou's tail. Kinkajou cast one last glance to Kestrel before following after Tsunami. They stopped midway to the gate and looked back. Kinkajou then offered, "Oh, you'll have to excuse her. She's just a little tense sometimes."
"Tense." Tsunami said, feeling as if this wasn't the time. Then she sarcastically asked, "Then what's her specialty, being a grump all the time?"
The two dragons then continued on their way. Kestrel watched Tsunami and Kinkajou walk towards the gate and had heard Tsunami's comment. Then with a scoff she said, "Going into town." She rolled her eyes as she said, "Of all the ill-conceived id-"
Kestrel stopped when she heard the baby chicks tweeting at her feet. Looking down at them she found four of them looking adorably at her. She then warned, "Now, don't look at me so crossly." She took a deep breath and then said, "I know what you'd say if you could say something-" Kestrel knew that they would be right if they could say what she said, "That Tsunami and Kinkajou will need someone with my eye for detail to keep them on the straight and narrow."
The Skywing let loose a sigh as she knew what she needed to do. Then waving her talons she said, "Say no more. I'll go off with them." Walking around them she said, "Now, I don't want any mushy good-byes, my little ones. You know how I get about overly emotional displays of affection."
Kestrel quickly hurried to the gate and called after the Seawing and Rainwing, "Ahem. Ladies?"
Tsunami and Kinkajou looked back as Kestrel passed through the gate to catch up with them. Kinkajou was happy when she said, "Kestrel."
"Well," Tsunami said in a jokingly way like Kestrel talked, "what made you change your mind?"
Kinkajou chuckled while Tsunami smiled. Kestrel looked back and looked as if she would cry. Then taking a deep breath she made herself look strong as she said, "I would rather not talk about it."
"It's a chick thing." Kinkajou simply explained. Back with the four chicks, they all high fived with their wings before chest bumping or headbutting each other. Then they all looked to see the three dragons walking away from the farm. Audrey called after them, "Good luck to you, girls!"
"See ya!" Porky shouted, feeling hopeful. All the animals wished them luck on their journey. Porky was about to say something but looked a little scared when Topps said, "They're stew meat."
"Hurry back!" Porky shouted as they disappeared over the hill.

After a few hours of walking, they were about half-way to the town Chugwater. Kinkajou then decided to pass the time by doing something that she loved to do, sing. They passed under a tree when she started singing, though was a little off-key…
Kinkajou: She'll be comin' 'round the mountain
She'll be comin' 'round the mountain
She'll be comin' 'round…
Both Kestrel and Tsunami cringed from the singing. Tsunami shuddered as her friend kept saying the same line over and then commented, "She had better hurry up around that mountain…" She shook her head as she said, "Because I can't take much more of this for much longer."
"Tsunami, may I be frank with you?" Kestrel said. Tsunami then joked while nudging the older dragon, "Only if you let me wear the hat."
Kestrel fixed the hat before clearing her throat. Then she said, "Lowbrow remarks may work for you…" Vultures flew overhead as she said, "but we prefer a more gentle approach."
"Well, she better stick a sock in it soon." Tsunami told her. Then with a gesture to what was over Kinkajou's head Tsunami said, "The vultures are starting to circle."
Kestrel gasped in worry before the two started to hurry. Tsunami shouted up to the birds, "Hey, she's not dying!"
One of the vultures stopped to hover. He then said, "Are you sure? We could wait around a little!"
They all looked to Kinkajou as she had not only pulled ahead of Tsunami and Kestrel but was making up her own lyrics…
Kinkajou: No, nothing, when she sees Grandma
No more food for her
"We'll keep you posted!" Tsunami sarcastically shouted. The vulture looked to his friend and regrettably said, "False alarm, Clem!"
"Roger dodger, out like the wind!" The other vulture said before the two flew off. Kinkajou came running back to Tsunami and Kestrel when she had an important question. She then asked, "Hey, Tsunami, Kestrel? How do we find the sheriff's office when we get into town?"
"Elementary, my friend." Kestrel said as she already knew how. Then she pointed out, "If we find Spirit, then we'll find the sheriff."
The other two dragons nodded as they thought that that was a good plan. Kestrel then remarked, "That Horse is a legend in his own mind."
Both Tsunami and Kinkajou started laughing at the thought. They kept following the trail to town.

In his mind, Spirit was fantasizing about what he would do if he were met by a gang of desperados. Glancing to the right he didn't see anything, but when he glanced to the left he saw an outlaw walking up to him. The outlaw stopped when Spirit noticed that he was surrounded on all sides by a gang of outlaws. They all stood with their hands itching for their guns. With a smirk, Spirit looks between them and says, "So, you boys think you got the drop on me?"
Then turning his reins into a lasso he acted when the bandits took a step forward. He lashed out with the rein lasso and it swatted a gun out of a desperado's hand. He repeated the action two more times and the outlaws clutched their hands. Then in one fell swoop he knocked the remaining guns out of the bandits' hands. Quickly raising his back feet he donkey kicked them in the face. Then with a jump when they came at him, Spirit was able to knock them down. One of the bandit's quickly got up and whipped out a knife. Spirit acted quickly and wrapped his reins around the bandits hand and made the guy drop the knife. Then with a tug he pulled the bandit towards him. The bandit looked worried as he flew towards the Horse as Spirit raised his front foot and bashed it against the bandit's face. The bandit spat out three teeth before falling unconscious. He started making poses while saying, "Jump back! Kiss myself!"
The Horse started kissing his biceps while a voice said, "Spirit. Earth to Spirit?" The Horse snapped out of it when a large dog shouted, "Spirit!"
The dog whistles to get his friend's attention. Then gesturing to the ground he said, "It's your move, Spirit."
Spirit calms down and stands on all four feet while looking down at their game of tic-tac-toe. They were at a stalemate of two from each side, a pawprint from the dog and a hand print with a large thumb spike from Spirit. Spirit looks to the sheriff as the man was asleep and snoring away. With a snort, Spirit glumly hangs his head and says, "Great."
Then with another snort he placed his hand down again. The dog then informed, "You were sleep-fighting again." The large dog shook his head as he said, "And you almost threw a shoe."
"Oh. Sorry." Spirit apologized. Then he told the dog of his troubles, "It just- it seems like all the other Horses are out there fighting bad guys and takin' names!"
He made a Kung Fu noise as he whips his rein around one of the posts. But when he pulled, all he accomplished was a painful headache when he crashed against it. He groaned and said, "Who put this here?"
"Oh, Spirit," The dog tried to reason while scratching his ear with his hind paw, "this might not be no Dodge City but we got our fair share of excitement."
"Hey, sheriff!" A deep voice shouted, waking the lawman from his nap. They all looked to see a little tanned man with big eyes holding up a message as he said, "Been waitin' a long time to give you this!" The messenger had a smile as he said, "Telegram!"
"OH, howdy, Morse." The sheriff greeted with a smile of his own. Then looking at the piece of paper as he got serious and asked, "What have you got there?"
"Hmm." Morse said to clear his throat. Then he read, "Got Evil Eye Joe. Stop. Bringing him today. Stop. Have money ready. Stop. Signed, Rico."
Spirit gasped at the name while Buck the dog rolled his eyes, knowing where this was going. The sheriff started laughing as he was impressed, "Ha! Oh, yeah! Rico's done caught another one already." He walked to the door of the office while jokingly said, "Might as well give him the key to the safe."
He disappeared as Morse walked off. Spirit then said to Buck, "You hear that, Buck? Rico's comin'."
"Yeah, Rico." Buck said as he hopped off the porch. Then he commented, "I might be old. But I ain't deaf."
"Boy, wouldn't that be the life?" Spirit said, starting to fantasize about it. He made it sound like a dream as he said, "Ridin' with Rico, cleanin' up the west." He started to move his feet across the ground and kicked up a dust cloud as he said, "Kickin' bad-guy behind!"
Buck looked down with a whimper to see that Spirit had ruined their game with his day dreaming. The Horse was still fantasizing about it as he shouted while making Kung Fu noises, "Watch out, sucker!"
Buck swatted the ground with his paw before laying down on his belly and propping his head with a paw. The dog knew that he wouldn't hear the end of it any time soon.

There was a lot of motion going on in Chugwater when the three dragons finally made it to town. Seeing that the coast was clear, Tsunami then said, "All right, girls. We're goin' in."
They looked around to see which way to go. One of the three gasped in amazement as Kinkajou said, "Look! There's no fences."
They walked down the street as she asked, "What keeps the people from just roaming about?"
"They appear to be domesticated." Kestrel observed as they stuck together. The air seemed to be calm as she said, "It doesn't feel dangerous at all."
"It's perfectly safe. Quiet as a farm at milkin' time." Tsunami assured. But the peace was ruined when a couple of kids lit a stick of dynamite and it exploded. They looked around as Kinkajou asked, "What was that?"
"It's a gunfight!" Kestrel exclaimed as the three dragons went into a frenzy. Multiple booms echoed throughout the town and it kept the three dragons running. They all screamed and Tsunami shouted, "Hit the dirt!"
"Who lives like this?" Kestrel questioned as they ran down the street. They turned a corner and Kinkajou asked, "What do we do? What do we do?"
"Look," Kestrel shouted when she saw something, "there's a star on that door there! Is that what I think it is?"
"That must be the sheriff's office. Move, ladies! Move!" Tsunami guessed and the three dragons ran through the door. But it wasn't to the sheriff's office had they looked up to the sign above the door.
Inside the saloon, a piano played as three women were trying to entertain the crowds. Though the crowd was bored by the show. They held their dresses while singing…
Saloon Girls: Swivel your hips,
Give 'em a grind
Shimmy and shake and leave your troubles be-
They didn't get to finish their number as Tsunami, Kinkajou and Kestrel barged in on stage. The three dragons accidentally knocked the three women away and they let out a scream. All six looked to each other before letting loose high-pitched screams. But some in the crowd seemed to love it as they started laughing. The woman running the saloon then ordered the saloon girls, "Get those dragons off the stage, now!"
The women growled at the dragons as they got ready. Kinkajou leaned towards her friends and said, "Maybe we came at a bad time."
"Charge!" The three ladies shouted as they ran at the dragons. Kestrel ran off the stage with a gasp while Tsunami charged forward with a roar. She and the biggest saloon girl rammed into each other and tried to push each other over. The piano player cringed when Kestrel came running by. She stepped into a spittoon and grimaced from the feeling, "Uh, gross!"
She knocked into tables and such while the patrons laughed their heads off. Kinkajou ran from the older dancing girl as she shouted, "How dare you?"
Their shenanigans caused props to fall or roll away as they ran across the stage. The Rainwing was now wearing a painting around her neck when she came back across and looked back. Kinkajou jumped out of the way when the dancing girl ran past her with a tarp on her head.
Tsunami and the dancer girl continued to wrestle with each other before the Seawing used her horns to shake the dancer girl around. The dancer girl screamed before she was flung across the saloon. She landed on the bar and slid across it, destroying many of the drinks and such as she went by. She knocked into a patron and they landed on the floor with the dancer girl in his lap. But the man was shocked to discover when it wasn't a girl but a man as he said, "Daddy?"
"Son!" The man disguised as a girl said with equal shock. The two men at one table continued to laugh their heads off from the show. One slapped the other on the back really hard and caused him to loose his dentures. The false teeth flew through the saloon and caused patrons to jump out of the way. The dentures landed in Kestrel's mouth and she spit them back out. The knocked another patron's hat off before landing in another fellas drink. The man was confused as he said, "I say!"
The man whose hat was knocked off walked over to him before punching him in the face. The man landed on the table with the two laughing patrons and they started to punch him in the face. The man was confused as he asked between punches, "Aah! Oh! Ow! What did I do?" Then he glared at the two as he said, "Especially to you two?"
The bar erupted into a fight as there were many opponents going at each other. When she had had enough, the saloon woman took matters into her own hands. She was able to round up the three dragons and pushed them out as she shouted, "That does it!" She had a little trouble getting them out, but shouted as she gave a few good pushes, "Hoof it on out of here, ladies!"
Tsunami, Kestrel and Kinkajou all tumbled down to the ground as the lady then shouted, "Go on! Get!"
"Oh!" One of the patrons shouted as he ran out. Then he pleaded, "Come back, please!" He slapped his knee as he said, "That was the best dang show we ever had!"
"Aw," The woman said before grabbing him by the collar. She pulled him back in as she commented, "you've been on the trail too long, you old coot."
