Chapter Four: A New Plan

The three dragons had landed next to a water well and were able to catch their breath from the whole ordeal. Kestrel had landed in a water trough, Tsunami had her back against a barrel with a moose head on her noggin and Kinkajou rode on a unicycle while balancing a pole and wearing a ruined painting on her head. As she rode by, the Rainwing asked, "Ohh. What kind of a sheriff's office was that?"

"Dancing girls, gambling…" Kestrel agreed and kicked the spittoon off of her foot. She thought it was ridiculous as she said, "Ha! How does the man ever get any work done around here?"

"If that was the sheriff's office," Tsunami said as she pulled off the moose head. But she smiled as she pumped her talons while saying, "then this town rocks."

Tsunami started laughing from the fun while Kinkajou pulled the ruined painting off of her. But as she fell back she knocked into someone. The Rainwing looked back to see Spirit standing there with Buck and made a joke, "Well, if it isn't three maids a-snortin' fire."

Kinkajou looked at the Horse with a glare as he leaned closer then said, "You girls sure are a little from home, ain't ya?"

"Well, if it isn't the phony express." Tsunami said as she walked up. Then she said, 'We want a word with you about this."

Kinkajou presented the bank notice and laid it on a barrel. Spirit and Buck took a closer look before the former asked, "What's that?"

"What is that?" Buck asked, earning a look from his friend. Tsunami then said, "I do believe that you left this on our farm earlier."

"Wai- whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa. Wait a minute." Spirit said when he knew what this was about. Tsunami, Kestrel both glared while Kinkajou looked a little lost before she looked to the Seawing. Then he pointed out, "The place went bankrupt, remember. Your farm is history."

The two started to walk away when Buck questioned, "Don't you heifers get it?"

Hold on, you two!" Tsunami said as she walked after them. Then tried to reason, "Give us two more weeks… And we'll have at least sixty bucks in prize money to-"

Spirit interrupted and then said, "You ain't got two weeks. You only got three days to pay or get on your way." Then he glared as he said, "And sixty bucks ain't gonna cut it."

"Looks like you need about…" Buck said as he turned to the notice. Sniffing it, he got a sense for it and said, "Hmm, I'd say about…" He nodded when he said, "Seven hundred and fifty of 'em."

"But, Tsunami," A worried Kinkajou said as she looked to her friend, "where are we gonna get all that money?"

The other two dragons were a little lost, but Kestrel then said, "Well, maybe Tsunami here could just pull it out of her ear."

"Hey, watch it, Kestrel." Tsunami warned and narrowed her eyes at the smirking dragon. Suddenly the sky above them began to darken and thunder rumbled overhead. Storm clouds started to block out the sun while relaxing cowboys gulped their spit down. Even the man at the post office froze in what he was doing. He sounded a little surprised when he said, "Rico."

"Rico." Spirit said in amazement. The sound of thunder woke the sheriff from his nap and looked to two flies that stopped buzzing and uttered, "Rico."

The wind began to howl as a large dust cloud headed towards the town. The three dragons looked to each other when a bolt of lightning flashed in the sky. The girls moved out of the way as the dust cloud rolled into the town. The sheriff started coughing from all the dust and gripped his hat when it nearly blew off his head. Tsunami, Kestrel and Kinkajou hugged the ground as the high winds blew over them. When the wind and dust began to settle, a man on a black Horse stood in the middle of town. His steed snorted as the sky started to clear up again. Standing up, Kinkajou looked to her friends and asked, "Who is that?"

A fly buzzed by Rico, and like a Kung Fu master, the bounty hunter grabbed the fly by the wings and shushed it. The fly cringed and uttered, "Sorry."

Rico let the bug go and it quietly fluttered away. Buck watched the fly away and was amazed at how quiet was. Spirit walked over the girls and questioned, "Don't you know a hero when you seen one right in front of you?" He then said in her ear, "Huh?"

Kinkajou shook her head to clear it as Spirit then said with a smile, "That's Rico… the best dang bounty hunter this side of the Pecos."

The sheriff laughed as he walked off he porch of his office and strolled up to Rico, his steed and their quarry. The sheriff then said, "I could guess from here to tomorrow…" He shook his head while Rico got off his steed, "But I don't know how you do it, Rico."

Rico lifted his capture off the Horse's back and tossed him onto the porch. The bounty hunter then asked, "Where's my money?"

"Well, all right," Sam said as he walked up to Rico while reaching into his pocket, "I got it all right here for you."

When he had been paid in full, Rico tightly gripped the money. A smile formed on Tsunami's face and she said, "Hey look, they're giving away free money!"

"Oh! Tsunami." Kestrel shook her head, feeling another ridiculous idea coming. Putting the money into his jacket Rico then asked, "So, who else is out there?"

"The only varmint left…" Sam said with a glare. He turned to the last wanted poster as he said, "Is that low-down, good-for-nothin' Alameda Slim and the Willie Brothers." He angrily ripped the poster down and said, "Cattle rustler."

He gasped when Rico took the poster. The bounty hunter then asked, "So what's the bounty?"

"Seven hundred and fifty dollars." Sam told him. Tsunami's eyes widened at the sound of it and she got an idea. A smile grew on her face as she said, "I got it." Looking to Kestrel she said, "Why don't we go and nab that Alameda Slim and use the reward money to save the farm?"

"Oh, that is a sensible idea." Kestrel sarcastically said. Not hearing the sarcasm, Tsunami said with a grin, "I knew that you'd love it!"

Kestrel scoffed before asking, "Don't they have sarcasm where you come from, Tsunami?"

"Oh, wake up and smell the alfalfa!" Tsunami exclaimed as the Skywing walked around her. The idea sounded good to her as she said, "It's a perfect plan!"

The girls started to talk amongst themselves about it. Rico then told the sheriff, "I'm gonna need a fresh horse for this job."

His words made Spirit gasp in glee and thought that this might be his chance. He rushed up behind the two men and next to Buck as Sam thought about it, "Hmm, a horse. A horse.

"Let me think now." Sam said. Buck rolled his eyes when Spirit rubbed his hoof down his back. He then started running on the tips of his feet and Sam then said, "I reckon that you'd want a fast Iggy, huh? Real fast?"

Spirit ran real fast through the town a few times before stopping next the Buck again. Sam then said, "Of course, they'd also have to be able to go a few days without food or water…"

Spirit started to do push ups and grabbed Buck with his mouth to prove his strength. Buck grunted when he hit the ground. Sam then said, "They'll have to be stealthy, sure-footed in any terrain…"

Spirit released Buck and started to tiptoe around before jumping onto the roof of the porch on the sheriff's office. Buck facepalmed at Spirit's shenanigans. But Rico caught sight of Spirit and said, "What about that horse?"

'What?" Sam said with a chuckle. Spirit came down next to him when the sheriff said, "you mean Spirit here?"

The horse gave a pearly white smile, but Sam wasn't too sure when he said, "Boy, I don't know." He admitted, "Spirit is really fast, all right," Then he also remembered, "but he can be kind of a handful."

Spirit shook his head as if to disagree. Rico seemed fine otherwise and said, "He'll do for me."

"Well, suit yourself." Sam said, seeing that Rico was willing to put up with Spirit's brash behavior. Spirit gasped when Rico put his saddle on his scaly back. Rico then put the wanted poster in a bag before turning to follow the sheriff. Spirit looked to Buck with a squeal, "Hey, Buck! Rico's saddle!" Tears leaked from his eyes as he said, "I'm wearing Rico's saddle!"

Then with a squeaky voice he said, "I'm wearing Rico's saddle!"

"Great." Buck said as he walked away from the horse. Glancing back he rolled his eyes as he said, "I'll leave you two alone."

The dog then tried to fit under the porch, but it was a little difficult for a big dog like him. Over at the dragons, Tsunami still tried to convince Kestrel, but she wouldn't have any part of it as she said, "Ohh, oh, no." Then shaking her head she made her point, "No, no, no."

Tsunami and Kinkajou both looked at her with grins, but Kestrel remained rooted with her decision as she said, "There is no way in heaven or on earth that dragons can catch an outlaw."

"Look," Tsunami said as she turned walked over to a chuckwagon. Then she explained her idea, "all we've got to do is follow this chuck wagon to a cattle drive." She helped herself to a few greens attached to the back and said with her mouth full, "And then, you see we let the bad guys come to us."

Kestrel had walked over to reason with the Seawing as she was eating, but ended up with a little mush on her face. Wiping her face off with her talons, Kestrel then argued, "And yet we have no reason to believe that this chuck wagon here is heading off to a cattle drive."

"Hey, Tommy!" A voice shouted behind them. They all looked to see a donkey talking to a drake, "Have fun on that cattle drive!"

"All right, then." Tommy said before looking ahead again. Tsunami nodded as Kinkajou looked to Kestrel and said, "I really think it is headed towards a dragon drive."

But Kestrel silenced her by wrapping her talons around the Rainwing's snout. Looking to the both of them she said, "Enough of this nonsense." Standing firm with her decision, the Skywing then said, "We are not following this wagon, and that is the final word about it."

Tsunami moved onto the other side and pleaded, "Come on, Kestrel." Then she had a smile as she nudged the older dragon while saying, "It'll be fun!"

Kestrel took a moment to process what happened and then questioned, "Did you just hit me?"

"Kinda." Tsunami said while nudging her again. Kestrel then growled, "Well, stop it then."

"Why?" Tsunami teasingly asked with another nudge. Kestrel was starting to get mad as she said, "Because I don't like it."

Tsunami poked Kestrel a few times before making her follow her talons and then used her shoulder to knock her back a little. Kestrel fell onto her haunches as her hat flew off her head. She watched as it sailed through the air before landing in a mud puddle. Kestrel began to get really mad as she turned to the dragon who caused it. Kinkajou covered her eyes with her talons and said, "Oh, no. Not the hat."

"What?" Tsunami asked in confusion. Turning to the Rainwing she asked, "What about the-"

She got her answer when Kestrel charged at her and knocked her off her feet. Tsunami grunted when she landed in a mud puddle and was covered in it. She lifted her head from the ground and glared at the Skywing. Placing her hat back on her head, Kestrel started to clean it off when Tsunami ran up with a growl and shoved her back in retaliation. The two started growling at each other before butting their heads together. Seeing that a fight was starting, Kinkajou tried to calm it by saying, "All right, all right. Violence is not going to solve anything here." Then closing her eyes she said, "So how about we all take a deep cleansing breath-"

But it was ignored when Tsunami and Kestrel came charging up to her and crashed into her. Kinkajou yelped in surprise from being sandwiched by the two dragons. When she was able to escape, she slinked away and let the two deal with the problem themselves. Kestrel used her large wings to disorient Tsunami before tackling her to the ground. Tsunami glared up at Kestrel while the older dragon stood over her before repeatedly shoved her head back down to the mud. Tsunami acted quickly by using her tail and wrapped it around Kestrel's throat and threw the older dragon off of her. The two dragons started to fight in the mud puddle. Tsunami wrapped her forelegs around Kestrel's neck before the Skywing rolled and it made Tsunami loose her grip. Kestrel then followed up by shoving Tsunami's head back down with her back foot and started to bend one of the Seawing's back legs up into the air. Tsunami punched the ground in pain before turning and biting Kestrel's tail. Mud flew from the puddle as they continued to fight. Buck came out from under the porch and was excited as he said, "Hey, now! Mud wrestling!"

He was covered in mud from the fighting. Spirit was laughing at the whole thing when some mud spattered onto the saddle. Shaking himself off he glared, "Hey, hey! Watch the saddle!"

Tsunami was able to break away from Kestrel before gripping the sides of the Skywing's head before bonking it with her own. Kestrel retaliated by using her back feet to kick the Seawing away from her before leaping at her once again.

The sounds of their fight was heard from inside the sheriff's office and both men looked to see what the commotion was. They saw Tsunami kick Kestrel off of her before the two were at it again. Sam and Rico were both weirded out by it as the former grabbed a rope and said, "What in tarnation is going on?"

Kestrel and Tsunami circled each other as they prepared to keep it up. Kestrel glared as she said, "Tsunami, for the last time I will not be roped into this scheme of yours."

But it turns out that all three of them would be roped as Sam tossed a lasso over their heads. They all tried to fight against it and Sam shouted, "Come on, you crazy dragonesses! Come on!"

He pulled the three dragons to the chuck wagon and tied it as he said, "Dagnabit!"

When he finished tying the girls to the wagon, he looked to the driver who was Chinese man. The man looked to him when Sam said while gesturing to the girls, "Hey, partner, curb your livestock. This town is clean!"

"Wow! Free cows!" The man said in Chinese with a smile. Then he waved the sheriff off while saying in his native tongue, "What a country!

"Giddy-up!" The man said before snapping the reins. The dragons gasped as they were pulled along. Though it wasn't how she planned it, Tsunami smiled as she said, "Not exactly what I had in mind, but this'll work."

"Well, it doesn't work for me!" Kestrel complained as they were pulled along. Rico climbed onto Spirit's back while Sam said, "Adios, Spirit. Take good care of Rico now."

Spirit walked by the three dragons and looked to them with a smug grin while shaking his head. As they soon turned down different paths, he shouted, "Hasta la vista, smoke-breathers! Ha, ha!"

Tsunami, Kestrel and Kinkajou all looked to each other before rolling their eyes at the horse.

Author's Note: I'm ending it here cause I want to start the next chapter that's a little more emotional. And I think you all know what I'm talking about.
