Chapter 23
As Ayron made his way down the wide, shallow steps he thought about all that had happened. From recovering stolen horses to being captured by the man who wanted to take over Narnia, the past few days had been filled with unexpected adventures.
I wonder what will happen next, he thought as he entered the Council Chamber. Several others were already present, they now only waited for the king. Soon he entered, and the Council began in earnest.
First, they wanted to know what reasons they had for questioning Ayron the way they did.
"I believe, sirs," he said. "That they wished to know more of Cair Paravel, its strengths, weaknesses, number of able-bodied men. All the necessary information to prepare an attack."
At that, several in the room gasped. "Do you really think they will attack?" someone asked.
"I have no doubt." Ayron said. He remembered his visit from Aslan. "The Great Lion himself has told me this."
"Aslan spoke to you?" King Araven questioned. "When was this?"
"While I lay asleep, Aslan came to me. He said he had given me the task of defending Narnia from a foe who wished to take her for his own."
"Do you know when they will attack?" Sparke asked.
Ayron shook his head. "I do not, but we must prepare ourselves as best we may."

Walking out on the walltop Ayron leaned against a parapet and stared out across the sea. Sunset painted the sky with pastel hues of yellow, orange, pale pink, a deep blue, and royal purple. As Ayron continued to watch the sunset a touch on his shoulder startled him out of his wandering thoughts.
Lilliana was there, her eyes filled with worry and concern. All Ayron could do was give her a reassuring smile.
