Chapter 8
→ E-Pespel / blue roses with Litzelot ←
The trip to Re-Estice proved far more interesting for Litzelot than expected. When the group arrived at E-Pespel, which was halfway on the route, blue roses decided to resupply. At the gates they paid the fee, which was high, even for the tastes of Litzelot. Once through our travelers went to an inn and rented a room for two nights. Afterwards Litzelot and Evileye headed out to honor their deal, while blue roses resupplied. Evileye and Litzelot nearly had learned their respective spells and it was now only fine tuning. While Litzelot used too much mana, resulting in a massive area being in pesticide, Evileye didn't use enough mana, which only resulted in a fog covered ground.
After a little training, Evileye and Litzelot walked back. When they reached the inn, they helped the rest to pack everything up and prepare. The next day was to visit the city.
→E-Pespel tourist tour/ Sir Litzelot ←
The morning was nothing special, blue roses ate and drank, with Litzelot barely touching any food or drink. Afterwards he moved out and looked through the city, and sold a few potions to get his purse happy. What Litzelot realized were the differences between E-Rantel and E-Pespel. E-Rantel looked more like a fortress, while E-Pespel was more like a big market.
The biggest difference however was the distinction between rich, noble and common. While E-Rantel only had that distinction within its shops, in E-Pespel it was easy to see where who lived. In the outskirts you had no paved roads, sewage ran open in the streets, the shops here were not existing, no guards patrolling and Litzelot clearly saw a red light district.
When he continued moving to the center of the city, he quickly saw a small wall within the city. It was a little higher than your average human on a horse. Spikes were mounted on its top. After a while he found a gatehouse. The gatehouse waas inside, so that the gates could be closed. When Litzelot moved closer, he got stopped by two guards.
"What do you want here?" One of the two asked calmly.
"I am taking a little break from my trip within the city. I was wondering if you could explain things to me, good men." Litzelot answered.
"What would that question be?" The other guard asked
"Why is there a wall within a wall here? It doesn't seem logical. In E-Rantel there was onl the wall around the cemetery and the city itself." Litzelot counter questioned.
"E-Rantel is a fortress city. It is governed by a mayor and the highest ranking soldier within. E-Pespel is a trading city. Since you are not from here I will explain. There is the city wall, which is to keep beasts outside. Then there is this wall, the middle wall, to keep this scum out there in their place. Then there is the inner wall, which is to keep the nobles safe. If you want to pass the middle wall you have to pay a fee of 2 silver. Behind the inner wall you only get as a noble, when you are invited or when you are caught doing a crime." The guard explained.
Litzelot, while disliking what he heard, still paid the fee to get further into the city. Here the roads were paved, shops were open, no sewage and no red light district. There were guards patrolling and nearly no sign of misery. Seeing this reminded Sir Litzelot of his former world and gave him a view on the new world. Litzelot looked around. There was a big temple, which reminded him of a church. Then there was a big market on a plaza. He looked around and sadly found nothing that interested him.
The weapons were of a lower quality than his, while the potions were even worse. He didn't need food or alcoholic beverages.
After a while he came across a new wall. This wall was even bigger than the outer wall. It was double as high as the wall around E-Rantel, which was as high as five bicorns. It had spikes, which were downwards, and guards on the top. There was only one visible entrance, a giant gate made of what seemed to be metal. Seeing this Litzelot could only shake his head. He decided to walk back to the inn, since the sun began to set.
Litzelot was deep in his thoughts about the obvious problems of the city. Walking down the main road now was not as beautiful as before. Suddenly he realized that he was in front of his inn. Deciding that he had enough of this city, he moved into his room.
→ E-Pespel / blue roses ←
While Litzelot was walking around, blue roses used this day to relax. They didn't like this city, since they knew by whom and how the city was run. The local count, a fat one called Louis Valiere Chemniere, saw the city only as a way to finance his lifestyle. He was famous for being stingy, hating everyone less rich than him and not being very good at tolerating anything that could criticize him. Blue roses had a few bad memories with him, since the count tried to cun them out of their pay for a quest once. Only thanks to Lakyus connections, blue roses got their pay. Even then it took a year.
"Are you sure it is a good idea to let Litzelot wander alone in the city?" Gagaran asked, drinking a big gulp of her beer.
"I think. He has an agreement and even promised Evileye that he would try to stand out of trouble. Besides, if the local count tried to do something, I didnt see anything." Lakyus grinned.
"I see your plan, evil boss. A win-win situation." Tina spoke while lying on her bed, feet on a second pillow.
"I think he will hate the city." Evileye thought. Having analyzed how Litzelot behaved and thought on the trip.
"Why do you think that shorty?" Gagaran asked.
"He hates arrogant people that have no right to be arrogant. Now think about how the count acts and you see his dislike from a mile away." Evileye smirked at Gagaran.
"Besides, the only person liking the city is the count, and even him I am not sure abou7. I don't know anyone that likes E-Pespel. The only reason the outer city still is inhabited is because they can't afford to leave the city." Evileye continued grimmly.
"By the way. Evileye, how is the spell going?" Lakyus asked curiously.
"We saw that he couldn't teach me the "Hoofed Nightmare'' spell. We think this is because of the species he belongs to. So he taught me "Foggy Presence", while I taught him "Vermin Bane". We are now fine tuning the manausage for both spells." Evileye spoke proudly.
"You mean that strange fog, shorty?" Gagaran asked
"Yeah. Though at the moment I was only able to cover the ground with fog. But like I said, I am finetuning the spell at the moment.." Evileye answered.
"Sounds good. How is it going for Litzelot with your spell?" Lakyus spoke.
"He uses too much mana. One time he set the forest we were training in the pesticide, probably killing everything in it. But there was something interesting in it." Evileye spoke
"And that would be?" Lakyus asked, now straightening herself
"When I use "Vermin Bane" the pesticide is yellow-green. When he uses it it is purple." Evileye spoke, while Lakyus deadpanned.
"Does it still do its job?" Lakyus asked, slightly confused.
"Of course. I hope it has only to do with his mana. Otherwise he could have developed my spell further." Evileye looked at Lakyus.
"Say Evileye, could you probably teach me "Ad Profundis", since he did teach you and spend a bit of time around us?" Lakyus asked, with her puppy eyes at full power.
"Earliest after the next quest for your contact. We don't have enough time before the quest and while we are doing it" Evileye spoke, inwardly hoping to get Litzelots permission.
"Does the fog of the spell have negative side effects?" Tia asked in thought, while massaging her legs.
"No. The thing it does is to block any sound and vision. It simply steals the orientation. It is, as far as I know, a better spell to cover an advance than my "Vermin Bane". We still have to experiment, but it's even possible that it blocks poisonous gas." Evileye said, smiling proudly while boasting about her newly learned spell.
"That would be extremely useful. Tia and Tina should ask Litzelot or Evileye to learn it." Tina spoke in deep thought. Tia agreed in her mind, while continuing to massage her legs.
"I will ask Litzelot when he comes back. Do you think he could be interested in "Raise Dead"? Then I could make it a trade. Maybe then he will teach it." Lakyus spoke in thought.
"We could give him "Shadow Clone" in a trade." Tia and Tina spoke in unison.
"You can ask him when he is back. Is anyone interested in a new game I learned? It is called chess and is about strategy." Evileye spoke.
"Nah, not me shorty." Gagaran spoke in a slur, and emptied her 24th cup of beer.
"I would like to," answered Lakyus, interested, since she could guess where Evileye learned the game.
"We let evil boss play first" Tia and Tina answered.
Therefore Evileye got her chessboard out of her bag and began to prepare it. After explaining the rules, Evileye and Lakyus started, while Tia and Tina looked at their match. Gagaran fell into her bed, too drunk to make another sound.
Litzelot came back from his visit, obviously agitated, when it was the third match.
"I think he is back," Evileye said, feeling an undead presence entering the building.
"That is good. I will go and look for him" Lakyus said, her head still processing the move of the figurines.
"I would not ask for the trades today." Evileye said.
"Because he is probably not amused about the city" Lakyus guessed
"Yes, When we move out of the city tomorrow. Ask him then." Evileye spoke.
"Sounds good. But I still want to see if it is him" Lakyus left with that. Evileye sighed deeply.
→ Floor of the inn / Lakyus and Litzelot ←
Lakyus was looking for Litzelot to make sure he was ok after seeing the city. She heard Evileyes guess about his reaction to the city and was slightly scared. While she didt have any noble privileges, her family still had them. She hoped that he would not make rash conclusions, just because he saw a despicable noble here. This fear was as far gone as it had popped into her mind.
"Hey? How are you doing?" Lakyus asked, a little bit shy.
"Me? I am fine. A little angry but ok." Litzelot answered.
"The city ist really good, is it?" Lakyus inquired.
"It is terrible. Are many nobles in the kingdom like this?" Litzelot wanted to know.
"Some yes. The one we got the next job from isn't. She tries to help the commoner in the kingdom. While most of her proposals were dismissed, she tries to do her most from a different angle now." Lakyus spoke highly.
"Ok. I am quite interested to meet her then" Litzelot stated.
"Ok. Good night then. I can't wait to sleep in a bed for once" Lakyus said with happiness.
→ The next day before the inn, all prepared / blue roses and Sir Litzelot ←
The night was good for blue roses, since they had propper bed to rest in. Evileye and Litzelot still had used the night to finetune their spells. While they were gone, Evileye had warned Litzelot about the coming proposals. When they played chess, he thought long about it.
The preparations to continue their trip didn't take long. The horses were prepared and fed. The luggage was prepared as well. The only thing they had to do was to leave. They still had to pay a fee to get out, which was five silver. This was extremely expensive and everyone of the group was happy to get out of the city, while forgetting the last fee they had to pay to leave the city.
After a while, Lakyus approached Litzelot. She had to collect her courage and that took a while.
"Ahem, Litzelot?" Lakyus started.
"Yes, Lakyus?" Litzelot asked?
"I wanted to ask if you can use resurrection?" Lakyus asked, to make sure her proposal was a good one.
"I sadly can't. Why do you ask?" Litzelot answered, slightly sad. He could have, but he didn't, since he had focused mainly on melee. But with his jobclass, dark knight, he could have learned it.
"Then I would like to make a proposal. I can cast "Raise Dead", which allows me to revive people, as long as they have enough lifeforce in them. If they don't, they sadly become ash. I would like to learn "Ad Profundis". It could prove most useful to me, since I am in melee and I didnt hear the martial art before. It would most likely surprise a foe." Lakyus spoke, hoping for him to accept.
"A tempting offer. I could more or less get a spell that could come in handy. Let's see where it leads to" Litzelot thought. It would take time. But it seems possible.
"It sounds fair. Thou why didn't you try to recreate the martial wart?" Litzelot asked.
"While I could, it would go against the idea of your deal with Evileye. The second reason is about mastery of a technique. The third is that, as far as I heard, no one knows it. This narrows it down to one person, who could potentially teach me the art. " Lakyus spoke.
"Sounds like a deal. We will start this evening, after preparing the camp.." Litzelot spoke, while Lakyus began to shine like a small sun.
Tia and Tina saw Lakyus' reaction and decided to ask Litzelot a little later. When the sun reached noon, the group made camp, so that all could eat. It took not much time to hunt, since they used their rations this time.
"Litzelot, may I ask you a question?" Evileye asked, looking away slightly.
"What may your question be?" Litzelot asked.
"We left the city a while ago and it is unlikely to meet anyone on this route. Why do you keep your head on your shoulders, if it is more comfortable to have it in your lap?" Evileye asked curiously.
"When we reach Re-Estice, I will have to carry my head full time on my shoulders. Therefore I try to get used to it on the trip there. Then I will have less stress to keep my cover." Litzelot answered.
"Makes sense," Evileye said dumbfounded.
Then the group dug in. The rations were not bad and not good. It would stuff their stomach till evening. They decided to move a little further, before they would make camp.
→ Camp of blue roses and Litzelot ←
When the camp was prepared, the twin approached Litzelot. They wanted to make their proposal.
"Evil companion? Tia and Tina would like to ask a question." Tia asked.
"Many questions today. What do you want to ask?" Litzelot asked them.
"You used the "Foggy Presence" to hide yourself" Tina spoke
"And we would like to learn it." Tia spoke
"But Evileye herself cant cast it well enough to teach it properly at the moment" Tina continued.
"Therefore we would like to ask if you could teach it to us." Tia spoke further
"We would even teach you "Shadow Clone" " Tina completed the proposal.
"Hm. Sounds intriguing. It has its tactical purpose. And in an emergency. I probably should do this. I already am fine tuning with Evileye." shot through Litzelots head.
"Sounds fair. Next morning, before we break the camp sounds fair?" Litzelot asked.
"Sounds great evil companion" Tia and Tina beamed in unison.
After the twins were gone Lakyus approached Litzelot, a warm smile across her face. She had waited excruciatingly long for the moment her training would beginn.
"Hi Litzelot, should we start with the training?" Lakyus asked.
"Sounds good. Camp is prepared. I have rations for us and there is a small clearing there" Litzelot spoke.
They move to the clearing and Litzelot summons a "Headless Horsemen" to hunt an animal for practice for his soon to be learned spell. While Lakyus looked around Litzelot explained how he worked his "Ad Profundis" and explained its use.
"You should use a shield for training this martial art. The shield would make it easier for you to concentrate your mana on it. When you have the mana at the shield, you pull in the enemy's mana and pull it to you. This will throw the enemy to you. Then you use your arm, or more safely a large shield, to throw him. You throw them by concentrating on the mana and moving that concentration over your arm and then behind you. Once there you stop the manaflow to the mixed mana." Litzelot explained.
"Sounds tough but possible. But how do you hide it? When I cast for example "Rising Dead" my mana is visible." Lakyus looked slightly confused.
"That comes after learning the technique, when we finetune it." Litzelot explained.
"But now explain to me "Rising Dead" ,since my summon will probably come with my dummy in a short while, please." Litzelot asked
""Rising Dead" is a spell to resurrect fresh corpses. It consumes large quantities of mana and is only able to revive beings with enough lifeforce in them. Partially rotted bodys will not be revived as humans. You also will need enough of the body to resurrect them. That, while making it extremely useful, also makes the spell slightly situational." Lakyus explained.
"You channel your mana into the body and then repair it. Then you give the heart a massage and inflate and deflate the lungs. After a short time the resurrection is completed. The resurrected needs to rest a short while though." She continued.
"Sounds good to me." Litzelot stated.
After a short while, where Lakyus ate her ration, the summon came back with a deer. Litzelot and Lakyus trained the techniques respectively. It proved hard but possible for both of them to learn them. But it was also funny for them.
A long while after the sun was gone, Lakyus was completely tired and exhausted. Evileye came to the clearing and saw them train. After Lakyus was finished she showed herself.
"You should go to sleep, evil boss." Evileye spoke, while winking to Lakyus.
"You are right." an exhausted Lakyus replied and the group falled back to their camp. Once there Lakyus simply fell onto her sleeping bag, falling asleep instantly. Litzelot took a blanket from his inventory and put it over lakyus, who in her sleep cuddled into it.
"You must have made her run one hell of a training, if she is that exhausted." Evileye remarked.
"She used a lot of concentration and a ton of mana this evening. No wonder she is finished. But she is making good progress." Litzelot answered.
"Shall we continue finetuning our spells or would you relax for a while? We could play a game of chess, I mean we could even try to have a nice meal or we could simply walk around a little?" evileye said, not looking straight at Litzelot.
"Yeah. Let's play a game of chess. Then we can finetune the spells." Litzelot answered.
They would be awake the whole night again.
The next morning the rest of the group roused from their breakfast, Tian and Tina walked with Litzelot to the clearing. In that time Tia and Tina listened closely as Litzelot explained "Foggy Presence". Then Tia and Tina explained "Shadow Clone".
"For "Shadow Clone" we use mana and form it into a copy of us. This clone has a bit of our mana and can be useful for distracting or scouting. It can also be used to cover a retreat. The problem is that it does not withstand a fatal hit." Tia explained, while Tina nodded.
"Seems interesting." Litzelot answered. After the explanations they trained for a few hours until the group decided to continue their trip.
That routine would continue until Sir Litzelot was seeing the wall of Re-Estice.
AN:
→ I think I will put Sir Litzelots age at around 20. He is mature enough to handle some stuff, while still being an internet troll ;)
→ I also think that the least responsible people in their teens and early twenties, if I look at my peers. In that timeframe most of us don't register risks as such. At least it seems so.
→This leads to some kind of ignorance, naivety that we see in Litzelot, while Momonga doesn't have this for two reasons. 1) He has his emotion suppression and 2) He has a more paranoid reaction.
→ I think I will try to get the chapter longer, which will cost more time
→ Thank you if you review
