Reckoning
"How are you unaffected?" Fels asked. "My cloak protected me and those behind me, but what about you?"
"No petty tricks are going to shift my rage," Ethan snarled, just as Gros roared and leapt at him.
Ethan drove his sword into the ground then slammed the back of his fist into Gros's head, hurling him backward before ripping his sword out of the ground again.
"Oh, you're stronger now," Dix grinned. "Get him."
The Ikelos Familia all roared in excitement as they charged, and Ethan growled in annoyance as he charged. Then, as he began to near the incoming mob, he opened his eyes fully, allowing his Berserk and Guardian Heart skills to both activate fully to the level his rage and desire to protect the Xenos currently was. The change was instant and obvious. His Berserk activated so fully that the skin around his eyes turned black as well, dark veins stretching outward from the darkened skin in every direction, then his irises shone so brightly crimson that they literally shone, obscuring the top half of his head partially. Dix swore instantly, realizing what was happening, but the rest of the Ikelos Familia had no idea. As a result, when the first member reaching him and slashed, he never even had the chance to realize what happened when Ethan's sword smashed completely through the member's broadsword and split him in half across the torso. The second member had only enough time to swear harshly before Ethan had split them nearly to the spine diagonally up across their torso with his xiphos, then spun around them and removed a woman's head.
Ethan heard Bell shout in fear and surprise, but ignored them, carving his way through the Ikelos Familia rapidly. Gran managed to deflect the blow aimed for him, but his sword shattered, then when he moved to punch Ethan, Ethan's elbow shattered the bones in his hand, sending him staggering away. He turned to finish him, only for the female in the pink clothes who fought Ryuu before to leap at him and throw a kick. Ethan growled in annoyance, leaning to the side, then slashing, splitting her from the bottom of her foot up her leg, then across her abdomen, her halves bouncing away from each other behind him.
"He's a monster!" one of the Ikelos Familia members finally managed to shriek as he and most of the remaining ones began to flee, including Gran.
Ethan didn't bother chasing them, instead turning his head to Dix, who readied his spear again.
"Bring it on, then," Dix growled.
Ethan roared in rage, launching himself over the stairs and slashed at Dix on the way down. Dix deflected the blade to the side and spun out of the way of Ethan's xiphos, allowing Ethan to land on his feet, dropping into a low crouch. Dix stabbed at Ethan instantly and Ethan spun, knocking the spear aside before lunging and slashing at Dix, only for him to deflect the slash, then step forward, striking at Ethan rapidly. Ethan pressed hard, forcing Dix onto the defensive within seconds. However, after a few minutes, Dix managed to spin around one of Ethan's slashes, swiping with his spear and managing to graze Ethan's left shoulder.
"Restoration," Ethan growled, glowing green, only to stop as he felt the magic fade and blood still running down his shoulder. "I see. A cursed spear. Useful."
"Very," Dix grinned, readying himself again as Ethan narrowed his eyes slightly, crouching slightly and readying himself, forcing himself to be more careful.
Then, he lunged, he and Dix's weapons began to clash over and over rapidly, sparks flying around them over and over. Finally, Dix spun in a circle, ducking under Ethan's sword, his own spear whipping around in a blur, forcing Ethan to leap backward off the stairs. Dix's spear managed to split his gut open shallowly, however, so when he landed, he sheathed his xiphos and held his arm across the gash.
Dix smirked, stepping up to the edge of the stairs. "That huge powerup, and still you can't beat me. do you need your girlfriend to help you?"
Just then, there was an explosion of sound behind Ethan, and he spun, seeing Ryu, Anya, Ranye, and Ray all sprinting into the room, Ray moving to help break up the battling Xenos, and the others all heading for Ethan, except, they were all wounded, and they were are all afraid.
Ethan sprinted toward them, only to skid to a stop as he heard something whistling through the air after him. He began to raise his sword, but he was too slow. Then, Ranye shoved him aside, the spear stabbing into her spider body. She shrieked in pain and Ethan roared in rage, ripping the spear out and hurling it at Dix, who managed to avoid it, only for it to tear a deep gash in his right cheek, a centimeter below his eye, matching the one on the left side.
"Ranye, use your webbing to seal the wound," Ethan said, standing between her and Dix. "That spear's cursed. The wound won't seal until the curse is broken."
Ranye nodded, quickly forcing webbing into the wound to seal it shut. As she did, Anya, Ray, and Ryu ran over, Ethan healing them all instantly.
"What happened?" Ethan asked.
"A new Xenos showed up as we were beginning to lose," Ryu said. "A Black Rhino. He destroyed anyone who wasn't a Xenos, and he ignored Ray trying to tell him that Anya and I were allies."
"Where'd he go?" Ethan asked.
"He left," Ray said. "I don't think he killed anyone. He just rendered everyone who wasn't a Xenos unconscious, then left. After he was gone, I woke up Ryu and Anya and we came here."
Ethan nodded and turned to Dix again, just as a shriek rang out behind them. He began to turn, only to stop as Wiene passed over him, her claws regrown and rage on her face.
"I won't let you hurt Ethan anymore!" Wiene shrieked.
"Wiene, no!" Ethan shouted, his irises beginning to shine again as he shot after her, leaping over the stairs again.
Dix growled in annoyance, deflecting Wiene's claws before leaping backward away from Ethan's sword. Ethan landed lightly and shot toward Dix as Ryu shot up the stairs, already chanting.
"Let's see how well you fight when you have to worry about those you love!" Dix smirked, raising his hand as the other Xenos all suddenly came to their senses. "Lose your way in an unending illusion!"
Instantly, Wiene and Ryu's eyes turned purple and both shot toward Ethan. He swore, drawing his xiphos and began to deflect their strikes. Wiene was faster than he realized, and between both her and Ryu, he was hard-pressed to keep up. Then, after a moment, just as Wiene's claws tore into his side, while Ethan was deflecting Dix's spear, Ryu finished her chant. Ethan swore and leapt backward, grabbing Dix and hurled him at the spell, blocking it. Dix shouted in pain as he sailed backward into a door, though the illusion held.
"Ethan!" Ryu shrieked, then shot toward Ethan as Wiene ran to check on who she thought was Ethan.
Ethan grit his teeth and dropped his weapons, stepping forward and allowing Ryu's sword to stab through his gut as he wrapped his arms around her. "It's me, Ryu."
Ryu froze, then trembled slightly as the purple faded from her eyes. She staggered backward, staring at Ethan in shock and grief. "Ethan!"
"It's alright," Ethan said, pulling the sword out of his gut and healing himself before tossing it to her. "Let's finish this."
Ryu nodded just as Wiene screamed. Both spun just as Dix ripped the jewel from her forehead. Instantly, Wiene's scream turned into a roaring shriek as she grew, mutating rapidly. Her legs joined and grew into a long, serpent's tail, a second wing grew in, her claws doubled in length, and she grew to five times her size, her fangs growing to nearly six inches.
"Dix!" Ethan roared.
"Kill him!" Dix growled.
Wiene shot forward, arm pulling back and slashing at Ethan. However, Ethan used his sword to block her claws and jumped, wrapping his legs over her shoulders to get in her face, which was nearly as tall as his entire torso and his head, then cupped her cheek.
"Wiene, it's alright," Ethan said. "I'm here. You don't have to fight. I'm not going anywhere."
"E...than..." Wiene said tears beginning to flow down her cheeks.
"It's okay, Wiene," Ethan smiled. "Lay down. Just go to sleep, and when you wake up, all of this will be over."
Wiene struggled to remain calm for a moment before slowly sinking to the floor, Ethan stepping off of her as she reached the floor. Then, he turned on Dix, as did Ryu.
"Be careful," Ethan said. "That spear is cursed. Its wounds don't seal."
Ryu nodded and both exploded forward, Ethan's eyes shining as brightly as the rest of their fight again. Dix swore and raised Wiene's Vouivre Tear, only for a Light Blade to flash from Ethan to Dix, slashing the back of his hand, making his fingers go limp, dropping the stone. Dix shouted in pain, swinging the spear around, only for Ryu's sword to slam into the blade hard. There was a loud snap and the blade stabbed into the floor just before Ethan slammed his palm into Dix's chest.
"Lightning Spree!" Ethan roared.
A massive explosion sent Dix exploding backward into a door behind him again blood spraying from his mouth. Ethan sighed, holding up the stone his other hand had caught, then looked back up at Dix as he staggered to his feet, his torso burned horribly and blood coating his chin.
"You...bastard!" Dix spat. "I just...wanted to...escape...my curse!"
"Then you should have found another way," Ethan said, the skin around his eyes darkening again, this time spreading to cover nearly his entire face. "You won't get any pity, sympathy, or mercy from me. You tortured and raped the Xenos, and you hurt Wiene. You'll die screaming!"
Dix growled, then raised his good hand. "Lose your way in an unending illusion!"
As the door rose behind him, Wiene shoved herself up, looking around wildly before looking to the door.
"Ethan!" Wiene's distorted voice wailed. "Ethan!"
She shot forward, speeding past Ethan and Ryu, then into the door, Dix managing to swing a leg over her tail as she passed and riding her into the darkness, the door slamming shut behind him before anyone could react.
"Dammit!" Ethan snarled.
"We have to stop them," Fels said. "I suspect that passage leads directly to the surface."
"He won't make it there," Ethan snarled, holding out the Knossos key, the door grinding open. "Bell, stay with the Xenos. Fels, you're coming with me and Ryu."
"Right," Fels nodded, sprinting over to them as Ethan turned, holding out his hand.
"Restoration," Ethan said.
All of the Xenos in the room shone green suddenly, their wounds all healing, including Ranye's. Then, Ethan turned, he and Ryu sprinting into the passage with Fels. The two of them easily outstripped Fels in speed, so they both lifted Fels by a leg, Fels clinging to their shoulders as they sped along the tunnel, hearing Wiene shrieking somewhere in the darkness ahead of them. Finally, they heard a thundering crash and dropped Fels as one, streaking toward the pinprick of light ahead of them. As they neared it, both of them threw off the black cloaks they were still wearing, then shot out into the light of Daedalus Street, arriving in time for Ethan to block Wiene's claws as she struck at Haruhime.
"Ethan!" Haruhime gasped. "Ryu!"
"Stay back," Ethan said. "Dix Perdix tore the stone from her forehead and sent her into a rampage. We'll try and save her."
The others nodded. However, just as they did, a golden-tipped spear with a black shaft stabbed into Wiene's right shoulder, tacking her to the wall of a building. Ethan and Ryu turned, Ryu drawing one of her tanto along with Alf's Lumina, and they glared up at an adjacent roof together where Ais, Tione, Tiona, Finn, Riveria, Gareth, and Bete were all assembled, watching the two of them and Wiene in a cold stare, Finn passing an order, likely to kill Wiene, to the others, though no one moved. Ethan narrowed his eyes, his irises once again shining.
"If there's a chance, have Hestia upgrade your status," Ethan said.
"You, too," Ryu said. "Yours will be more helpful."
"We'll see," Ethan said, then projected his voice up at the Loki Familia leadership. "You won't lay a hand on her while we still live."
Tiona and Tione both looked surprised and confused, Gareth and Riveria showed no reaction, Bete snarled angrily, readying himself to fight, and Finn and Ais both narrowed their eyes slightly. Ethan took a slow, steadying breath and prepared himself to die.
