Summary/disclaimer: Time for another chapter of Demon and the Monster. Enjoy the 1200-word chapter. I do not own any rights to Fairy Tale, Hiro Mashima, Kodansha and a few others that I may write about.

(Present times)

Chente nudged Mirajane while the shapeshifting bartender looked at him with amusement.

"Do you ever look back at those times we were hotheaded idiots?" Chente asked and then leaned down to look at her. "Because I did. It was quite weird, thinking back of all those good memories we had. You were my first real friend. I always have those times come to mind when I'm sad." Chente stated to which Mirajane shook her head.

"Yes, I think of you often, your giant big lug." Mirajane stated as Chente smiled.

"You always were a softie, Janey." Chente said while Mirajane glowered.

"Hows that giant scar that's crippling you?" Mirajane asked with venom dripping from her words.

"Healing." Chente responded while shaking the rain off his coat. "I still cant believe you left a scar on me. You were tough then and now I heard you're a S-Class Wizard. You really made a name for yourself." Chente said and crossed his arms.

"If you missed me so much?" Mirajane asked and turned to Chente. "How come you never personally came to talk to me? You and I could have caught up." Mirajane stated to which Chente hummed and nodded.

"You were busy and I didn't want to bug you." Chente said which got a frown. "I wanted to help people in my own way. I planned to meet you, but I kept screwing myself over every single time I felt like it… I'm sorry that I didn't try it sooner." Chente said and looked at the ground.

"You always did have a big heart, Chen." Mirajane responded and leaned on her old friend. "Fairy Tail would have loved to have you. It might have taken some time for them to warm up to you, though." Mirajane added as Chente hummed and pondered to himself.

"Maybe, but you know I don't take orders well at all." Chente said with a smile. "Never was much of a leader or follower. Just a wanderer. I think I'm not really cut out for being part of a group…" Chente said while putting his hands in his coat pockets.

This annoyed Mirajane, but it didn't surprise her. Chente was always someone who solved problems with fighting. It didn't mean his heart wasn't in the right place, but it didn't help people shake off their negative opinions about him. Chente hummed and tapped on her head with his head.

"I should point out that I didn't expect you to get so strong… Your one of the strongest people I've seen so far." Chente said while Mirajane raised an eyebrow. "Not to mock your friends? But your always going to be the strongest wizard that I've known since then." Chente added and got an elbow to the ribs at the moment.

"There's more to life then strength." Mirajane stated as Chente nodded.

"Yes, intelligence, cunning…" Chente said while raising his own eyebrow. "Not what I meant. I don't know the others besides what they did, and they don't know me. You and me were different people back then. We both wanted a good fight, we both had different ways of fighting each other." Chente added and leaned on one of the buildings.

"Do you think fighting is everything?" Mirajane asked and got a shake of the head. "Then why do you bring it up back then." Chente heard Mirajane ask him.

"Because I think of EVERY single adventure we go on." Chente said while looking around. "The time we helped beat up those bandits, you and I fighting that corrupted sheriff. The time we helped steal food from those people to give to those who needed. I can't think of those times? You think all I talk about is violence? Janey? The reason I only bring up those times is because of how much fun you and I had." Chente stated to which Mirajane blinked.

She said nothing at the moment while Chente looked at the hulking scar on his hip. He knew very well that his ribs were in pain, he still didn't fall unconscious. It took very much to knock the life out of him. It always had, it always would.

"Hey, Janey?" Chente asked, cracking a jade green eye open. "Do you ever wonder what would have happened if we stuck together?" Chente questioned with a smile.

Mirajane hummed and leaned on the wall next to Chente. She turned to look at her lumbering friend. Chente could only ponder what was going to happen next.

"It would have been something." Mirajane stated to which Chente nodded. "Did you ever think about it yourself?" Mirajane questioned and got a smile while he hummed.

"I always think about all the fun times we had as a team, Janey." Chente stated as he smiled once more. "You always kept my head on my shoulders and such. I liked those times, there were peaceful. When we didn't have to worry about wars, about sicknesses… Just about which of us was better then the other." Chente said while swishing his tails and hummed once more.

Mirajane knew for a fact that he wasn't just asking for something small. Chente liked his time with her when they hung out. Chente was a warrior, he knew a lot about the world. It made her question what would happen if they had gotten together as a duo. Perhaps things would be much different.

"Should I ask something? Mirajane asked which got a shrug from Chente at the moment. "Do you plan on sticking around? You never were the type of guy who stuck around if there wasn't much reason to." Chente heard from Mirajane to which he gave a bigger smile.

"Trust me, I don't plan on going anywhere anytime soon." Chente said while gazing up at the sky. "Did you think I plan on going somewhere anytime soon? I don't I like it here, with my friend… Where I feel at peace and all that jazz." Chente stated before waving his hands back and forth.

Chente got a smile from Mirajane while more rain started to fall on him. He closed his eyes once more then as he cracked his knuckles once more while humming.

"Should I point out how crazy we used to be back then when it came down to it?" Chente asked through closed eyelids. "We were just a group of crazy teens, just crashing through life. Neither of us used to care." Chente stated as he hummed. He put his hands in his pockets as more rain came down.

Chente could feel Mirajane lean on him. It made him smile once more.
