Summary/disclaimer: Time for another chapter of Demon and the Monster. Enjoy the 1200-word chapter. I do not own any rights to Fairy Tail, Hiro Mashima, Kodansha and a few others that I may write about.
(Present times)
Chente took a seat, the bench creaking under his weight. He was curious enough.
"It will be nice seeing you in Fairy Tail." Chente heard as Mirajane took a seat next to him.
"Somehow I honestly doubt that with all due respect, Janey." Chente stated in response as he turned and hummed. "You know how chaotic we used to be. One of us hasn't really change, I know it isn't you when it comes down to it." Chente stated, cracking his fingers as he pondered the idea in his head.
Mirajane was silent, curious as she hummed and simply looked at the ground. Chente smiled, but made no desire to do something stupid. He closed his eyes, his tail swishing around within his coat.
"How long have you spent traveling around without somewhere to go?" Mirajane asked, the question's intent as obvious as the amusement in his look.
He turned to her, opening one of his eyes gently. He was slightly tired, but he couldn't fault the question when it came down to it. He gave a small yawn and excused himself.
"Too long, Janey, too long." Chente stated as Mirajane hummed and nodded. "I don't think I remember every single day when you ask it like that. I've been here and there, moving around. I wasn't really staying in one place when it comes down to it." Chente added, curious as to what she was getting at.
Still? Chente was rather happy to be here, you couldn't fault someone for enjoying the company of their oldest friend when you thought about it. Chente leaned back and then slowly followed the woman in the direction she was walking. He staggered slightly, the pain of his wounds slowly dragging him down.
He cursed himself for being so recklessly cocky, so eager for a brawl that he had let himself get hurt like this. Chente knew he wasn't unstoppable. He was gullible enough to throw himself into the fire anyway, expecting himself to come out on top like a champion of some fighting circle.
"I'm going to guess you want me to come to their house or something?" Chente asked, a curious eyebrow raised as he pondered the very idea of the topic at question.
"Yes, that's where we are going... I do think you should rest a bit." Mirajane responded to which he could only chuckle as he turned to face her properly.
"I have been resting, it's just not as easy as you think." Chente said, nodding towards his chest as he spoke. "Whatever they hit me with left some nasty marks. I'd be ticked at them if I wasn't fighting to live currently." Chente added, cracking his fingers as he lumbered behind her with a gleam in his eyes.
"It's always a fight with you." Mirajane pointed out which got a nod more than anything. "It's like you enjoy getting hurt." Mirajane added as Chente shook his head and walked right next to her.
"Hurt? No." Chente stated as he stood next to her. "I enjoy a fair fight, Janey. I don't go into battle liking to smash people's skulls to glass and throwing them around like rag dolls..." Chente added before taking a deep breath as he waited a moment to speak.
"I enjoy scraps." Chente put in as he turned to look to the side. "Like the ones we used to have as kids. You think I WANT to kill people? No, I don't. Nor do I unless I must, and I don't treat it like some happy enjoyment. You want to know what I DO end up fighting?" Chente questioned and already knew Mirajane was aware of what he'd say next.
Then again? It wasn't like he hadn't already stated it loud and clear. Chente had fond memories of their roughhousing as kids. He didn't want to hurt Mirajane, he didn't cease some form of pleasure from the act.
He fought her because both enjoyed scrapping back then. Chente had no desire to hurt her or do her any harm when it comes down to it.
"You don't really look that different from when you were little." Chente stated as he used his tail to gesture to her white hair. "You know how I remember you so well? It's the snow-white hair, never seen anything like it." Chente added, a smirk pulling at his lips before he hummed with interest.
Mirajane slowly pulled Chente along with her. She had told someone to tell the others about the sword wound on Chente's hip. It bothered her that he wasn't taking it more seriously… But then again? Chente was always concerned with others over himself.
"How's the scar?" Mirajane asked before Chente hummed.
"Good." Chente stated before Mirajane turned and swiped at him, transforming her hand into claws.
Chente threw himself backwards and blinked before seeing Mirajane raise an eyebrow as he chuckled to himself and looked at her with interest.
"Now you want to fight?" Chente asked and got a smirk as he grinned and spread his wings. "Show me somewhere quiet. I don't want to stab someone by accident trying to tackle you." Chente added before he adjusted his jacket so he could fly.
"I told you I'd fight if you'd let the doctors look at those wounds." Mirajane said as her wings sprouted from her back then flew up into the air once more. "Did you not promise that you'd go to see the doctor?" Mirajane stated as she hummed and looked at her old friend while he nodded.
Chente flew after Mirajane with amusement in his wings as he looked around. There was so much for him to explore soon, he just didn't know about it yet and it fascinated him when he thought about it.
Chente flew after Mirajane, lagging slightly behind due to his wounds, it wouldn't be a fair battle… But knowing Mirajane? She would probably make sure that it was. She had no desire to fight dirty from what he knew about her when it came about it.
"I'm going to guess that these battle grounds are next to the Fairy Tail compound?" Chente asked as he flapped his wings. "That way they can talk to both of us when we're done and such?" Chente questioned with a raised eyebrow.
He got a nod which caused him to hum and consider what would come of the fight. He knew that Mirajane was strong, and so was he. He considered the battle a contest of wills more then anything. Still? Chente gave his word and he DIDN'T like to go back on it once he gave it.
