Chapter 13:
The Queen's Arrival
As Leon was brought to a hospital, Takuto brought the remaining group back to the building where they saw Akashi waiting with Saya and the others.
"How did it go Takuto-sama?" He asked.
"Leon lost his connection to the Blue Waves, the stress on his mind is still there, so he needs rest. How's the progress on Miss Saya?"
"Successful, there were several commands implanted on her, as well as several traumatic memories that we dare not bring out by force to lower the stress on her, she remembered a lot of details, but I would rather not push anymore."
"I understand." Was the reply.
"Aria, you're here?" Saya asked with a smile.
"Yes, I'm surprised you're here too!" Since Aria was in control, she was a bit more cheerful compared to the calmer Gredora.
"Yay! Saya is no longer alone!" She noted as she pulled the other girl into a hug.
"S-Saya-san! C-Can't breathe!"
"O-Oh, sorry." With that she backed up.
"I'm glad that at least they're a bit more positive. But that leads a question on where Gredora is staying."
"That will be obvious," The concert master replied. "She will have her accommodations done for her, but she will still be kept under observation."
"Awww phooey!" Was the reply from the Megacolony Queen's host.
"In that case, we'll observe her then." Bella volunteered.
"If she tries anything, I'll inform you immediately." Rekka reported.
"Understood."
"So, are we still continuing the tournament?" Hiroto asked.
"I suggest you should." The Megacolony symbol appearing shows that Gredora has taken control. "You cancel it, and it will just put them on alarm."
"I understand, very well, we'll do that then. For now, everyone will go and get rest, the tournament is a few weeks from now, so we'll have time to prepare."
A week later.
"What do you mean Leon-san won't be in the tournament?" Takeru asked Rekka.
"As in he's not going, something happened, so he's going to skip the proceedings of the tournament."
"Is he ok at least?"
"Yeah, he'll be fine, but he needs rest." The girl replied. "But we announced that early so that if he needs more time to rest, people will be more understanding, rather than revolting at the last-minute change of decision. Although the ride decks were fast implemented. It just took 3 days and everyone is using it."
"I see…" Takeru noted. Frankly that match from Leon was still one of the greatest matches he had, so he was bummed at not being able to face him again.
"Well, it doesn't change that the tournament is still for some time, want to fix your deck?" Satoshi asked.
"Yeah, after that match with Akemi, I started wondering how to fix my deck."
"Well, probably thinking of ways to play without relying on just your Blaster Blade combo for starters." Claire added. "It works but keep doing that and you'll be easy to read."
"I see…" He muttered as he looked at his deck before he felt Satoshi place a hand on his shoulder.
"It's fine, we still have time," The Dimension Police player assured, "But we better get some training."
"Yeah, we should, wonder who we could get practice with?" Sakuya wondered.
"Well, we could go check other shop tournaments." Claire suggested.
"I'll come with!" Aria interrupted.
"Umm, who is she?"
"Everyone, meet Aria." Was the reply to Sakuya's question. "For reasons she'll be with us for a bit."
"Uh huh, reasons, sure." Satoshi deadpanned.
"Anyway I'm new here, so please show me around." She replied as she went with them.
"Really? Fine I'll bring you with us… but no funny business ok?" Rekka had told the girl earlier.
"I understand." Was the reply…
Later that day, they had then gone to one of the nearby stores, where they noted a tournament ongoing.
"Mind telling us a bit about yourself?" Sakuya had asked Aria while they were walking.
"Oh me? Well, I use Megacolony," she replied. "I also come from ummmm…. Out of town."
"O…k?" Satoshi wondered, Saya had come and brought Akemi out for an outing earlier so that could let them focus on training.
"Well, we need practice, right?" Takeru asked, bringing everyone's attention back to the sign at the store they were in.
"Yeah. We should sign up."
"I'll join too!" Aria smiled as she entered.
"Oh, aren't you Kousaka Takeru? The guy who made the Imaginary Gifts." A girl's voice broke through, making everyone in the store turn towards them. The girl in question is one that seems to be in her teens, with white hair and a uniform that Takeru recognizes is from the new school that Asuna and Alan go to. "Are you joining in the tournament?"
"Ummmm… y-yes." Was the reply, although the fact that he was being recognized was not sitting well with him, as people suddenly started filing applications to join it as well. Murmurs clearly heard of wanting to face the Imaginary Gifts.
"Oof, I probably shouldn't have mentioned that I recognize you… anyway, I can't wait to see what you can do later." She began before she walked away. "Oh, and mind the 'Companion' ok?"
"What, was that?"
"I have no idea Satoshi."
"W-well… s-since we all signed up, l-let's get ready." Sakuya interrupted.
"R-right…" Takeru said.
After about 30 minutes, they had checked the brackets…
"Oh, I'm in the same bracket as Claire." Sakuya noted. "While all of you are at the other one."
"Well, good luck to us then." He smiled as the tournament went into full swing.
"Perfect Performance, Ange attacks your Vanguard!" Sakuya had called out at the end of one match.
"Protect our hero, Enigman Calm!"
"Flogal's skill activates!"
"Seems like they're all making progress." Rekka smiled before looking at the Megacolony user. She had noted the lack of the Megacolony symbol. "Huh, that munchkin is actually pretty good… if not for the weird ratios in her deck…" she observed, noting that her Sentinels weren't completely the same, or that her heal triggers were… off.
"Whew…" Takeru sighed as he finished his match with Aria, who had beaten him. "Wow, you're really good Aria."
"Thanks!" She smiled.
"Well, maybe it would be harder to beat you if you weren't so obvious with your strategy." Claire chimed in.
"I know I know…" he sighed. "So how did it go on your end?"
"Claire beat me at our bracket…" Sakuya sighed. "She's going to the championship. How is it on your end?"
"Well… me and Satoshi both lost to Aria so she's going to the bracket finals. She's really great."
"Now, without further ado." The store owner had said. "I present to you the finals of side B, Ariadne Kurt, vs Hinata Fujimaru." He said as the girl from earlier had appeared.
"Oh, that was her." Takeru realized.
"Stand up, ('The'), Vanguard!" Once more, the connotation 'The' had caught the Kai Rebirth people off guard.
"Outstanding Mutant, Promularva." Aria declared.
"Neon Messiah." At that Rekka's eyes widened.
'A Messiah user?' she thought. 'Takuto had this entire place on surveillance, how did this get through us?!'
On the fields of Cray, it would be seen to be like the insides of a hive, with an insect watching the base form of Messiah and analyzing it.
"I'll go first." Hinata said as she drew a card, before discarding the card, which was a Lady Battler of the Black Dwarf, before reaching for her ride deck. "I ride Hard Sword of Polarization, Lagranjard. I move Neon Messiah directly behind my Vanguard."
In response to her request, Neon Messiah felt the white Vanguard circles crash upon itself, creating a light than when gone showed a man wielding a sword as the previous Vanguard appeared behind it.
"Lagranjard's skill." She began as she took another card from her hand. "I call Sacrifice Messiah as locked before drawing a card. I then immediately end my turn and unlock Sacrifice Messiah."
"Is that normally how Messiah decks work Gredora?" Aria had asked the unit inside of her.
"No, this is probably a newer variant, do you want me to take over?"
"No I will be fine." She replied as she began her turn. "I discard Superior Mantis from my hand, and I ride Machining Hornet from my ride deck."
Nodding the unit moved behind its old spot as a red insect with its stingers aimed at Lagrandjard fired.
"I move Promularva behind my Vanguard, and with it's boost attacks your Vanguard." (Power: 13000)
'I see, that even from where she was from, some evolutions went through as well…' Rekka thought as she saw Aria's opponent no guard.
"Drive check."

"Damage check." She remarked as her vanguard got hit.

"Machining Hornet's skill." She said as she checked the top 6 cards of her deck. "I add Darkface Alicides to my hand, I end my turn."

"Stand and draw." A copy of Dunamis Messiah was discarded. "I superior ride Counterkill Strike, Gastorur."
Nodding, the unit was then replaced with a new unit that seem to rely on their kicks to attack.
"I attack with my Vanguard." (Power: 14000)
"… No guard."
The unit then went against Hornet and kicked it.

"I use Gastorur's skill." She said as she paid a counterblast. "I call Lady Battler of the Black Dwarf as locked from my hand and then draw. I end my turn and unlock it."

"Stand, and draw." Aria began as she discarded a copy of Little Dorcas. "I ride Hiding Killerleaf." She called out.
The bug then changed into one with a green carapace ready.
"I call Dangerous Horn." She said as she called the unit to the side. "I reveal Alicides from my hand to make sure Dangerous Horn retains its power. And it attacks Black Dwarf." (Power:10000)
"No guard." She said as her unit was crushed by the newly arrived opponent.
"I attack your Vanguard." She said as she paid a soulblast and a counterblast. "I make you send the top card of your deck into the drop zone."
"Tch…" Hinata said as she flipped the top card and was surprised by what it was.

"Since it's not a grade 1 or higher. I don't draw." (Power: 24000)

Gastorur then gasped in pain as it got crushed by the attacker.

"Stand and draw" She said as she discarded a copy of Harmonics Messiah as Rekka's and Aria's eyes widened.
"A Grade 3… Harmonics?!" Rekka asked in surprise.
"No that's not it, look at what it has!" Takeru said and as she did it made the others notice also.
"An Imaginary… Gift?!" Sakuya looked surprised. "How does she have one? Did you give her that?"
"I'm as shocked as you are, what do you think?!" She retorted. "It wasn't even in our lists of cards to make…"
"The deity of Cray descends, its light, for every denizen under it, Ride!" She began. "Alter Ego Messiah!"
As the fighter stood up it merely looked up as light radiated on it, which when after it disappeared, showed Messiah appearing.
"Imaginary Gift, Force!" She called out, placing it in the right front circle.
"It's real…" Claire commented. "Only way it can register."
"Still hard to believe even with it in front of our face." Satoshi noted surprised as the others paid attention.
"This fight just got way harder…" Aria noted.
"Call." Hinata began. "Blink Messiah. Alter Ego's skill activates." She said as she moved out her grade 2. "I call 2 cards from my drop zone into two separate rear-guard circles as locked." She said pulling out Dunamis Messiah and Black Dwarf from her drop zone and placing them in the same column. "I attack your Vanguard with Blink." (Power: 12000)
"Ingot Chafer guards!"
"I attack your Vanguard with Alter Ego! With Blink's skill, I move it into the soul to draw a card and give it 5000 power." She declared as her Vanguard prepared itself. "I use its skill! I choose any number of locked cards and unlock them!" At her command both Black Dwarf and Dunamis were freed from the chains binding them. "All units unlocked with this skill get 10000 power." (Power: 23000)
"No guard!"
"Twin drive check."

"Critical trigger! I give the power to Black Dwarf, and critical to my Vanguard."
The unit then raised its arms as it fired a blast towards Killerleaf.

"Critical trigger, all effects to my Vanguard."
"Dunamis boosts, Black Dwarf attacks your Vanguard." (Power: 46000)
"… No guard." She repeated as she took another damage.

Even though the unit had taken a lot of damage, it had come out of the smoke still ready to fight, if not heavily battered.

"She's already at 4 damage…" Takeru commented.
"Of course, but we're still entering first stride… and she can still do a lot." Rekka replied.
"Stand and draw." Aria said as she dropped another copy of Ingot from her hand. "See the Queen of Megacolony in her splendor, then cower!" She replied as she placed the card on her Vanguard circle. "Ride, Evil Governor, Darkface Gredora!"
As the unit appeared, the two remaining Megacolony units immediately turned towards her direction and knelt towards her.
"Woah… is that the actual Gredora card?"
"We only know of her due to some card lores… I can't believe someone actually has a copy of them!" Another added.
"Skill activated." She began. "During the next turn, you can't call any rear-guards in the same column as Sacrifice."
"What?" Hinata just looked in shock as in her imagination there was suddenly a string of webs in the column of the unit.
"Stride, Generation!" She began. "Poison Sickle Mutant Deity, Overwhelm!"
All over the field more webs started connecting, showing a spider humanoid staring at its targets like a predator stalking its prey.
"Overwhelm's skill. Counterblast, I flip a copy of Merciless Mutant Deity, Darkface face up, and draw a card for each of your rest rear-guards."
"Each of my-" Hinata looked in horror as she realized that her opponent just drew 4 cards.
"Call." She said as she took out three cards from her hand. "Bombscissor, Vulcan Lafertei, Darkface Alicides." She said as each of the units appeared ready to serve their queen. "The skill of her champion activates." With that a counterblast and a soulblast was paid. "I paralyze Black Dwarf and Dunamis."
"Tch…" She said as she saw what seems to be lightning crackling on the units.
Black Dwarf and Dunamis though, felt themselves trapped by webs, unable to move.
"Even with the damage difference, she literally filled out their board for free thanks to all the cards available." Takeru realized.
"Dangerous Horn attacks your Vanguard with Bombscissor's boost. Vulcan Lafertei's skill. Since it's in the same column as Black Dwarf, it can't intercept." She replied. (Power: 20000)
"In that case… Generation Guard. Demon Maxwell! Skill activated, I lock Dunamis!" She said as she put it out of play.
Before it could be attacked, a being from another time appeared, with its dark red shield protecting Messiah from the attack.
"I attack your Vanguard, skill activated, I move Bombscissor to my soul, I draw a card, and get 5000 power." (Power: 36000)
"No guard." She replied.
"Triple Drive!"

"Critical trigger! I give the power to Alicides, and critical to overwhelm!"

(Drive Check- Sharp Nail Scorpio- Critical)
"The same as my last one!"
Seeing the perfect time to strike the being summoned forth by the queen cut through her target like ribbons.
"Argh… damage trigger!" She called.
(Damage Check- Sacrifice Messiah)
(Damage Check- Flowers in Vacuum, Cosmo Wreath)
(Damage Check- Alter Ego Messiah
"Alicides attacks your Vanguard. Dark Device, you can't intercept." (Power: 48000)
"In that case…" She began as she looked at her hand. "Perfect guard." She said using Cosmo Wreath to protect herself, discarding a copy of Drifter from her hand.
"… What, is that?" Sakuya asked.
"I don't know, I never heard of a card like that." Rekka admitted.
"I end my turn." The Megacolony player ended as she looked at her field.
'If only I had more copies of countercharges…' she thought.

"Stand and draw." Hinata began. "Huh, I'm in a bind huh? Well not for long." She said as she discarded Destiny Dealer. "Stride Generation! The deity of Cray descends! Amnesty Messiah!"
The dragon's body then started to shift into a slimmer like dragon with its two hands becoming slender as well.
"I call Myga Messiah. Lady Battler of the Black Dwarf is retired." She smiled as she retired the unit.
"That just made it harder…" Gredora told Aria.
"How so?"
"That invalids my skill."
"I attack your Vanguard with Myga." She began. "Generation Break 2. I gain 2000 power for each locked card I have." (Power: 21000)
"… No guard." She said as she took a damage.
(Damage Check- Evil Governor, Darkface Gredora)
"Myga's skill." She paid a counterblast and then locked it. "I look at the top 3 cards of my deck, and then call a card from my deck in front of Sacrifice as locked." Noting that though Aria just grit her teeth as she realized that could confirm at least four attacks.
"Wait, is that allowed?" Takeru asked.
"Gredora's skill counters calls, but if they are called in a state where they are not treated as a unit, like let's say, locked." Rekka began. "Then it can be bypassed."
"Sacrifice's skill activates." She said. "I lock it, countercharge, and then give my Vanguard 3000 power. Amnesty Messiah attacks your Vanguard." Both Amnesty and Neon Messiah were turned to rest. "Counterblast. I unlock as many units as possible, and my Vanguard gets 3000 for each card unlocked, and if three or more are unlocked, critical plus 1." She then placed her hand on the field. "I unlock Myga, Dunamis, and Sacrifice, I gain 9000 and a critical." (Power:45000 and 2 critical)
"So that's why you locked Dunamis last turn." Aria noted as Hinata nodded. "Perfect guard." She said considering Lafertei but decided to use Scorpio as a discard cost for Honeycomb Queen.
'She has two kinds of Sentinels?' Rekka thought.
"Triple drive."

"Draw trigger, I give the power to Myga."

"All the effects to Myga!"
(Drive Check- Learning Flamescion, Messiah Drifter)
Despite the power behind it though, a female Megacolony unit appeared to protect Gredora.
"Dunamis boosts, Myga attacks your Vanguard!" (Power: 48000 and 2 critical)
"Guard!" She said using Scorpio, Bombscissor and Hornet.
"Dunamis' effect activates." She said as she paid a soulblast. "I unlock Flamescion Drifter and lock Dunamis , and then give Flamescion 4000 until the end of turn. With Flamescion's skill, 3000 power when a rear-guard is locked or unlocked."
As the unit was unlocked, It was seen that despite having the Messiah name, the being literally looked like a human, with their weapon manifesting as a weird sword/lance hybrid.
"Drifter's effect activates." She said as she paid a counterblast. "I give Myga 5000 power, and since it is at rest, I stand it."
"Wait, that just means they also have another high-powered column coming in!" Takeru realized.
"I attack your Vanguard with Flamescion Drifter!" Hinata called out. (Power: 27000)
"Generation guard." Aria called out using a Cocoon Healer, much to Rekka's confusion. "Seven Stars Mutant Deity, Relish Lady!" She said as she flipped a Grysfort in her G-zone face up. "With her skill, you choose up to two stand rear-guards, and you may rest them." She beamed at Hinata. "But since you can't, I draw a card, and both countercharge and soulcharge." She added as she did so, putting a Little Dorcas into her soul. "I add Cocktail from my hand."
"Myga attacks your Vanguard…" She merely muttered.
(Power: 46000)
"Generation Guard." She added, using Machining Snow Wing. "Feather Wall Mutant Deity, Morphosian. Snow Wing's skill, I bind both itself and Cocoon Healer, I countercharge. Morphosian's skill, if you have less than 2 rear-guards at stand, I gain 10000 shield. And then guard." She added using her rear-guard Dangerous Horn and from her hand a Hornet.
"I… end my turn." Hinata muttered. "I unlock Dunamis."

"Stand and draw." Aria began.
"Well Aria tried her best, but…" Takeru noted.
"Yes, it will be hard to overcome the defense." Rekka began. "But don't count out Aria yet."
"Gredora's skill activates." The girl added. "I soulblast and countercharge, and then you flip a card in your damage zone face down."
"What?!" Hinata just looked in surprise.
"She absorbed the counterblast?" Claire asked surprised.
"Proumularva's skill." She added as she paid a counterblast and moved it to the soul. "I draw a card, and all your rear-guards are immediately rested."
"That just meant that her stood Dunamis is now rested… which means Dark Device can activate once more." Rekka noted.
"Stride Generation." She said using the Gredora she drew. "The Queen's greatest champion appears to tear anyone who disrespects her grace, Mercilesss Mutant Deity, Darkface!"
As Gredora merely looked at Messiah, she had called out a possible future of her greatest champion to fight for her.
"Stride skill." She paid a counterblast. "You can't call another rear-guard in the same column Drifter. And then call. Another Darkface Alicides. Skill activate. I paralyze that entire column." She said paying a counterblast and a soulblast. "I then use Darkface's skill," she said as she paid a counterblast and flipped another Darkface face up. "I choose two rear-guards, Myga and Dunamis, and until the next turn, you cannot use them to activate cost or effects, and Myga can't intercept either. Since I chose two rear-guards, my Vanguard gains 10000 power."
"That just complicates things." Claire said. "Those two can still stand next turn, but since they can't use their effects."
"It's the same as basically leaving them paralyzed." Rekka muttered. "For a girl with an incomplete deck, she's doing pretty well."
"If that's incomplete, I'm kinda scared what it would be like if it WAS complete." Sakuya admitted.
"I know what you mean." Takeru added.
"I call Machining Hornet behind my Vanguard, and Vulcan Lafertei behind my other Darkface." She added as she now has no cards left in her hand. "I attack with my Vanguard Darkface." (Power: 44000)
"44000 power…" Hinata looked at her hand. "Generation guard. One more time with Demon Maxwell. I lock Neon Messiah. Shield plus 5000." She said as she turned it face down. "Sacrifice's skill." She locked it as well. "I countercharge, my Vanguard gains 3000 power. And then guard!" She added a critical trigger and a draw trigger.
"Triple drive."

"Heal trigger, I heal a damage, and power to my right hand Alicides."
(Drive Check- Charming Mutant, Sweet Cocktail)
(Drive Check- Sharp Nail Scorpio- Critical)
"Critical trigger, all effects to my left hand Alicides, the left hand Alicides attacks your Vanguard. Dark Device, power plus 10000." (Power: 38000)
"Guard!" She added using her other critical and Sacrifice.
"My other Alicides." Aria added.
"… No guard." Hinata sighed as she took her 6th damage.

"The winner, Ariadne Kurt!" The store owner said as people clapped with the girl sighing in relief.
"Man, that was a good game!" Hinata smiled as she offered her hand for a shake.
"Yeah, it is, let's play again!"
"You know it. Speaking of which, are you joining the upcoming tournament?"
"Huh? Oh… ummm, no…" she admitted. "I just want to watch is all."

"You were watching my match?" He asked.
"Yeah of course I am, although I am surprised that you're still using Alfred."
"Huh? What do you mean?"
"Eh, if you don't know yet for now it will come sooner." She added. "See you in the tournament then."
"… You're joining with Asuna right?" He asked.
"Of course I am! She is my classmate! Although she does seem to have some personal gripe."
"Personal gripe? What do you mean-" Satoshi couldn't finish his question as Hinata just shook her head to show that she doesn't know the answer.
"Anyway, your friend is playing right?" Hinata noted. "Wonder what she can do."
As they were conversing, Rekka had approached Aria.
"Your deck is incomplete…" The girl merely observed.
"Of course it is, not like I have a choice with what's going on back there…"
"What actually happened back there?"
"Oh and now you want to know?!" Rekka was taken aback at Aria's words although the latter immediately softened her tone a bit. "I'm… sorry, it's just… the explicit details are… not something either of us want to relive for now, although we are serious with what we said."
"… I see, but I hope you must also understand that we still have to be careful."
"We would too." Was the reply as the Megacolony player prepared her deck for the last game.
"I never thought I'd be facing you for the last game." Claire admitted.
"Looks can be deceiving." Was the reply as they placed a card on their starter. "You ready?"
"Yes."
"Stand up, 'The', Vanguard!"

WOOOOH FINALLY! It took me a while, but here we go! I hope you guys enjoyed it, see you in the next one. This match was honestly a bit hard to do since for story reasons Aria is playing with an all over the place deck, at least she has enough ratio's but as of this point her deck still needs a lot of lucksack to work. If the correct pieces don't arrive, she's pretty much dead in the water. Anyway that's it, see you all in the next chapter.
