Chapter 17: The Start of the Voltron Coalition Idea(Marinette's POV)
"Alright we need to discuss the Voltron Coalition project," accounces Allura to the group.
Marinette twiddles her thumbs. She really thinks they should focus on who the Black Paladin should be. But she guesses a Coalition is more important to establish, then the new leader of the Paladins.
Which makes her angry, sure Shiro just died two days ago. But this is war, and from what she remembers in history class is that soldiers without a leader are usually disasters. As Napoleon was a great strategist, and he ended up winning a lot of battles thanks to his plans. So having a leader is good, no matter the war. And Shiro would have wanted them to continue the mission. So why are we focusing on the Voltron Coalition instead of who should pilot the Black Lion?
"This Coalition is an alliance between planets to help us stop the war."
Marinette interjects, "That means a lot of meetings to inspire the planet's leaders to join the Coalition. So you should look presentable. I can design some dresses so you aren't wearing the same one."
Hunk blurts out, "You design fashion?!"
"Yeah, before I got roped into being a superhero, I was designing outfits, because I want to be a designer."
Coran nods, "That'd be good. We do want to be presentable to the other leaders."
Lance asks randomly, "Can you design some clothes for us? We didn't have time to exactly pack before we stumbled into this adventure."
"Sure, I ca…."
"This meeting isn't about her designing clothes. It's about how to move forward with this war." Allura sternly tells the team.
Marniette turns her attention to Allura. "It's about how to move forward and how this Coalition we've been setting up will help other planets."
"Yes and a part of that is dressing up. Our Earth leaders dress up in a suit and tie or dresses, because that inspires people to be confident in them. So clothes and appearances do help with getting people to side with you."
Pidge puts her fingers on her glasses, shoving them up a little, "I have to agree with Marinette, clothes and appearances do help leaders gain the confidence of the people. Statistically speaking it has helped a lot."
Hunk nods, "Yeah and saving the other planets from the Empire will make them more likely to join as well. As they are finally free of their oppressors, and would likely want other planets to be free too."
Allura looks at everyone, "Hunk is right. If we keep giving them hope that Voltron will always have our back, they might support us more easily."
"And Marinette can help us all look presentable when we meet the other leaders, by designing fashion and making it. If that's alright with you?"
"Of course it's alright! I've always wanted people to model my designs, and I already said I would Lance."
Allura scowls a bit, "Back to the point. The Coalition."
Marinette looks at Allura, "Look we've already discussed this. The Coalition will be an effort with all the alliances we've made to stop this war from continuing. And that by saving planets with our lions we will inspire hope in the people that this war can end."
"Fine, everyone is dismissed. Pidge I want you to see if there's a planet nearby…" Allura's voice trails off as she walks away. Allura seriously doesn't know when to set her priorities. She knows everyone is still grieving but time doesn't wait for anyone. This war will go on, whether they move on or not. The others were closer to Shiro, so they might need a little more time to grieve, but they can't grieve forever.
She ducks behind a corner and parts open her purse. Tikki flies up, "What's wrong Marinette?"
"I was wondering, if you talk to the lions about who should lead Voltron. I don't like how the others are forgetting that Black needs a pilot in order for us to form Voltron. Otherwise how are we supposed to inspire hope if one of our lions isn't around."
"I see where you're coming from. And I will do my best."
"Thanks Tikki."
Tikki waves farewell and Marinette walks back to the bridge. That was easy. Hopefully the others won't get mad that she told Tikki to talk to the lions. Because in her opinion going on like this isn't good. They need to have someone pilot Black. Otherwise they might not be able to inspire hope in other planets, or in the Coalition itself.
Author's note: I really didn't like how in the show, Allura always wore the same dress whenever she was at Coalition meetings. As a princess, I'd thought she'd be aware that appearance is everything. And I do think that the main reason most people like wealthy people, and trust their advice that they give sometimes, is because they look nice and people want to be them, nice looking. So princess Allura should have more than one dress, but I feel like she only has one. Based on how many times we've seen her in the same dress. And Marinette will be designing them! As well as giving new clothes for the paladins to wear, instead of the ones they've probably been wearing for months. Also I kind of didn't like the time ship in Season Three, just because I would have loved to see how the Voltron Coalition idea started and the process of saving planets, which I will explore in more detail. I also would have loved to see the paladin's reaction to Shiro's death, so I will also explore how the loss of Shiro is affecting everyone.
