Chapter 18: Talking to Lions
Tikki floats up to the majestic robotic black lion. She touches her forehead to the Black Lion's and wills herself to go into the lion's mind.
She opens her eyes and sees a vast swath of purple. Stars dot the sky in the Black Lions mind, and she sees him talking with the other lions. Tikki floats so she can hear what they are saying.
"Marinette is a good choice for Leader. She has earned the right to pilot me during the battle a couple days ago." The Black lion says, his voice deep and set on his choice.
The Red Lion snarls, "Easy for you! Your paladin isn't alive somewhere! How Am I supposed to be okay with this. Don't get me wrong Blue, Lance is a good choice for Marinette's right hand and he has proved himself to this team and me. But Keith is still out there! I will not be okay with letting another human pilot me when my cub, my first choice is still out there!"
Blue speaks calmly, "I understand. But Voltron needs to be summoned, and we can't do that if you hang on to Keith and the possibility that he might come back. The place he is in might not have such tech for him to arrive when you want him to."
"Then I'll find him!"
"And leave the paladins defenseless and incapable of forming Voltron! That isn't logical!" The Green Lion snaps at Red.
Red swishes her tail angrily. "Easy for you to say Green. Your and Yellow's first choice for new paladins is still here! At least they didn't die or disappear. Who knows where. And besides, I can feel my cubs' pain. He could be in trouble!"
Black stands over Red, "Oh really. And now you bring this up? How convenient. I am sticking with my choice, my new cub, yours and Blue's should start right away. And no buts Red. I know how attached you are to Keith, but we don't have the time to hunt him down. When they call on us to battle you will ignore Marinette and I shall call her…."
"It won't be that easy Black. Lance will want to pilot you. He has to accept that Marinette is your choice and that won't be easy. He's wanted a chance to prove himself to be more than the Blue Paladin, once he gets over his grief, he'll try to pilot you." Blue calmly interrupts.
Red nods, "Marinette has already accepted to lead. Lance will have to let Marientte be leader. It will be his test to prove to me that I can trust him. As I do want to be absolutely sure that he will be a good pilot."
Tikki flies up to them, "So that means you've already decided?"
Red turns to face her and snarls.
"Stand down Red. Goddess of Creation it is an honor to be in your presence," Black says smoothly. No hint of anger. Odd, she did just interrupt their meeting.
"It is also an honor to be in yours. I had no idea such creation from beings of flesh could exist. Truly the honor is all mine."
"But you are Goddess. You are the being that inspires creatures such as our paladins to create things for good. So…"
"I get it Black. I'm a goddess. So really the honor should be yours. But I am fanistated that such creations as you actually exist. I never knew something like you lions could be created. Then again Earth is the planet I have existed on for millenia, so my expectations aren't high. And your minds are the most intriguing. You can think for yourself and choose your paladins, that's something unheard of for machines on Earth."
Yellow purrs, "Ah yes. But it has to do with a special comet that fell ten thousand odd years ago."
"I heard about that," Tikki is intrigued. Even her power isn't powerful enough to create something live and with thoughts. That's more Dusuu's power. Pain stabs her heart as she remembers her lost brothers. She hopes Nooroo and Dusuu are okay. Same with her other brothers and sisters in the miracle box back on Earth.
Curiosity overrides her sadness and she asks, "So what was in the comet anyway?"
Green responses, "A concentrated amount of quintessence and ore. Quintessence is what we call life force. King Alfor made us from this comet, the ore is strong and nothing can destroy us. But if we take a strong hit, our defenses and systems do go offline. As strong laser beams overload our systems. Sucks, but at least we don't explode like the Galran ships."
"So strong ore and concentrated life force. How many comets are there like this?"
"Tikki thes comets are very rare, and you should know, being the creation kwami or goddess, whatever that we are the first things form a comet like this."
Tikki scowls, "It doesn't work like that. I can create things magically. I can't tell if the creation of someone is the first of its kind, or how many creations there are in the universe. I wish it did, but it doesn't. I can only create things out of nothing. I am the only being who can."
Red laughs, "What did I tell you Green! Just because she's the goddess of creation doesn't mean she has unlimited powers when it comes to creation."
"Correction: I have an unlimited ability to create things, but I can't find a specific creation and do other stuff. Besides it is quite dangerous for me to create things, last time I tried it ended uo distaterous. That was before I created the miraculous so that my power and my brothers and sisters power could not remain unchecked and…."
Her mind flashes back to the old man who had suggested such a concept.
"Your powers have grown, haven't they? You saw what happened to Atlantis and the Dinosaurs, and that was before I was born. And you almost destroyed yourself helping this village all the time. Creating newer and better things for them, without considering the consequences." said an old man in a robe. His white beard flows down to the bottom of the blue robe he is wearing.
Tikki nodded, "I never thought creating things for people would lead to them fighting over my gifts. And that by helping them cause them harm. As before, my gifts were actually helping."
"Tikki perhaps if you had a human…"
"Regular humans can't see us. We're invisible to them. Only powerful wizards, such as yourself and witches can see us!"
"Then perhaps…..
"Are you okay?" rumbles Red.
Tikki nods, "Yea..Yeah. Just spaced out a little. "Perhaps you should go. Marinetee probably needs you," Red says.
Black nods, "Yes. Time in the Astral plane is always different. It could be moving slowly or faster than the real world. Sometimes it switches."
"But what about your pilots?"
Black laughs, "Tikki the time will come where Marinette will become my paladin, but now is not the time. The others are grieving, in time, perhaps, the others will finally see what Marinette sees. That Voltron needs a leader, sooner rather than later. And that staying stagnant in this position is dangerous. Tell her to wait, and that the time will come."
Tikki nods. Closes her eyes, and pushes herself out of the Astral Plane.
Author's Note: Finally got inspired to write Tikkis talk with the lions! And yes a bit of a lore dump. I tried to look up the creation of the jewels of the kwamis in the show, but I couldn't find anything. So instead I created my own backstory for them. And yes that backstory will be developed in a separate fic. Hope you liked the newest chapter and Happy late Halloween!
