It's the morning before their next shift following the BBQ, and Kelly is a bit nervous. He has always worked at 51, and now, he's starting over at a brand-new house after all these years. He knows it'll be fine though, as he has Evan by his side, looking out for him. He can do anything with Evan next to him.

While Kelly's getting ready and Evan's in the shower, he gets a call from Casey.

Kelly: Hey man what's up?

Casey: Just checking in. Wanted to wish you good luck on your first shift in L.A. So… did you end up asking Evan to marry you?

Kelly chuckles because he had told his best friend that he was going to ask Evan to marry him. Him bursting at the seams, he couldn't go any longer without asking.

Kelly: Yes, I did, and he said yes!

While Casey can't see the large goofy smile on Kelly's face, he can hear it in his best friend's voice.

Casey: Good for you guys. I'm happy for you both. So… you staying in L.A. for good?

Kelly: I… I don't know. We have to figure that out.

Kelly, his chest tight, sighs woefully at the thought of giving up the squad for good, but he would do anything for Evan, and he means anything. So, the ball is Evan's court.

Casey: Okay. Just know that we would all be happy to see you two back here.

Lifting up his arm, Kelly glances at his watch.

Kelly: Thanks Case. I gotta go though, but I'll talk to you later.

Casey: Okay. Chat soon.

After saying their goodbyes, they hang up, which coincidently matches up with Evan's arrival to the kitchen.

"Hey, babe, who were you talking to?" Evan asks before he kisses Kelly sweetly on the lips.

"Casey." Kelly answers, not letting Buck step away. "He just wanted to check in before my first shift at the 118."

"That's good. So…how are you feeling about your first shift here?" Evan asks, cautiously, as he studies his fiancée's face.

Kelly sighs. "Honestly, I'm happy that I'm with you and we're working together again, but I do miss 51." His heart beats in his ear. "I don't want to push, but I do want us to think about going back. Sooner rather than later so it's not so hard on the people here or on us." He exhales as he explains, "mainly I'm worrying about you."

"I get that, and I… think you're right, but let's give today a go and see how it goes ok?" Evan suggests softly.

Kelly nods then says, "Sounds perfectly fine to me. I'll give it a shot for you." He stares into Evan's beautiful blue eyes. "Ah…Ev, was there ever something between you and Eddie?" Kelly asks the love of his life.

Evan sighs then says, "Not really." He pauses, thinking back on it. "We danced around each other, but we never admitted our feelings for each other." The younger man looks away. "I think he's jealous now of the two of us, realizing what he could've had if he had admitted his feelings. I feel bad for him, but I've been over him for a while now. Now that you and I are back together and getting married, I have no feelings for him that aren't platonic. He is still one of my best friends, but that's it." Evan reassures his fiancé, meeting Kelly's eyes.

"That makes sense. I was just worried there might be something there, and you…" Kelly shakes his head and that thought from his head. "I love you Ev, and I don't ever want to lose you again, especially not to someone else. You're mine." He says, wrapping his arms around Evan and gripping Evan by the ass, and pulls him closer before he kisses him passionately.

"I'm yours, baby, forever and always." Evan places a quick peek on Kelly's lips then adds, "But we should get to work." Evan grins.

"You're probably right. Let's go." The older of the two says as he pulls away. He grabs their duffle bags and heads out to Evan's jeep, Evan following close behind. They pick up coffee and Danishes on the way.

Once at the 118, Evan shows Kelly to the locker room, and after he gets dressed into his uniform, Kelly puts his stuff in an empty locker. Afterward, they go up the steps to the kitchen to set the coffee and Danishes on the table to share. When Bobby notices the two, he approaches and says, "Good morning, you two. Ready for your first shift Kelly?"

"Yea, I am. It's different from 51 for sure, but I'm sure I'll get used to it." Kelly tells the older man.

"I'm sure you will. Is L.A, a lot different from Chicago?" Bobby asks, both Buck and Kelly nodding and saying in unison "Yes."

"Oh, how so?" Bobby asks.

Kelly's the one that speaks, saying, "For starters, besides the squad rig and the ambo, there two other rigs and there's officer for each. The paramedics don't go on every call, only getting assigned to call that may require medical. While some of our—" his heart flickers on the word—"firefighters are trained paramedics, the paramedics are solely paramedics."

"Oh wow, that's different," Bobby utters, shocked at how different the two departments are.

"We also have a lot more guys in Chicago." Buck says. It's not lost on Bobby or Kelly that Buck used 'we' for when he talked about Chicago.

"I can't imagine a big firehouse after being here for so long now." Bobby admits, just as Chim, Hen and Eddie come up the steps.

Chim's eyes immediately go to the pastry. "Danishes and coffee! Man, I love you, Bobby." he exclaims, making everyone laugh, but then Bobby goes, "no, it was actually Buck and Kelly that brought them."

"Wow, thanks guys." Chim expresses.

"Yes, thank you." Hen says, smiling softly at the couple, as she heads to them. On the other hand, Eddie walks right past the Danishes and heads to the station coffee pot.

Evan can't say that doesn't hurt. "I see he's no better than the other night." Evan whispers to his fiancé.

"It'll be okay, baby. It's gonna take some getting used to for him." Kelly reassures his fiancé, wrapping an arm around him.

"I hope you're right." Evan replies. "I-" Just then the bells go off. Working on auto pilot, everyone dashes to the trucks, throws on the gears, and piles right in. There is a second pause in Eddie and Kelly as they go for the same seat, their eyes meeting. With a small grin, Kelly takes the golden seat by Evan, where Eddie usually sits. Eddie scoffs and sits across from Buck.

"Okay, here's the situation: a multiple vehicle pileup with a semi involved, cargo unknown. So, we may need hazmat." Bobby says, looking over his shoulder at the team.

Kelly nods, his lieutenant brain kicking into gear. "Evan and I both have hazmat certifications with the CFD and can handle any chemicals that may be on that semi." He explains, meeting Bobby's eyes. Besides him, Evan, huffing, face palms, as the team never knew he was on squad before he came to L.A.

"Buck has what now?" Eddie utters, shocked.

"I, uh, I was on squad before I came here." Buck tells the group, his eyes dashing to each face to get an reaction

"Why didn't we ever know this?" Chim asks, looking almost offended.

"Cause no one asked, or apparently read my file all the way through." Buck counters out, shooting a pointed look to bobby.

Bobby, ashamed of him, sighs then nods. "I guess I just assumed you were fresh out of the academy. I'm sorry. I should've read your file." Bobby admits before adding, "Okay. So, Buck and Kelly handle that semi and what is inside. Eddie, Chim and Hen check the cars and help the victims." Bobby directs.

Arriving on the scene, Kelly and Evan jump right into it, heading straight to the semi. "The driver's DOA, but it looks like a truck carrying fertilizer, which means as long as there are no flames or gas reach it, we should be ok." Kelly says, Evan nodding along knowing he's right.

"Captain Nash, we got a truck with fertilizer on it, as long as flames or gas doesn't reach it we should be good." Kelly tells Bobby over the comms.

"Got it, Kelly." Bobby responses.

After they free the victims from their cars and clean up the mess, hazmat handles the semi. and the 118 heads back to the station. Once back at the station, Kelly goes to the gym area where he sees Eddie and starts working out with the punching bag.

"Hello." Kelly greets, attempting to be friendly.

"Hey," Eddie grunts back, as he's lifting weights.

"So, how long have you been a firefighter for?" Kelly asks Eddie in an attempt to make small talk.

Eddie's eyes flicker to Kelly. "Two and half years. What about you?" he asks.

Kelly chuckles to himself then says "23 years. Joined the academy at 18 and been with the CFD ever since." The older man reveals as he throws a punch.

"Wow, that's a long time. Were you on squad the whole time?" Eddie asks as his curiosity gets the better of him. He can't help but wonder about the man who stole the man he wanted to be with.

Kelly shakes his head 'no' before saying, "no, I started out on truck and was there until I was 23. I made squad, the youngest ever to make Squad, and became Lieutenant at 25."

"Oh wow, that's cool. So, you and Buck have known each other for how long?" Eddie asks.

Kelly snickers at the memory of an 18-year-old Evan starting out as a candidate on 81. "Since he was 18, fresh out of the academy, so about 11 years." Kelly says, smiling at the thought of how they used to be in Chicago before everything went to shit and Evan left.

"Oh, that's a long time. How long have you dated before?" Eddie asks

"5 years." Kelly simply says.

"Cool. Look man, I just want what's best for Buck, as he's my best friend and I don't want to see him hurt again. He's had a few break ups—some worse than others-- while he's been here, and I don't want him hurt." Eddie explains.

"I get that, and appreciate you looking out for Evan, but I won't hurt him again. Yes, I know I'm the reason things ended before, but I won't let that happen again. I love him too much." Kelly says as he stops the punching bag from swinging. He takes off his gloves just as he catches Evan in the corner of his eyes. "Hey, babe." Kelly says as he sees Evan enter.

"Hey, it's lunchtime." Evan greets, crossing to him and placing a quick peek to his cheek.

The three men all go up and eat after Eddie and Kelly change out of their sweaty gym gear. The rest of shift goes smoothly, and before they know it, it's time to go home.

Once Kelly and Evan are back in the apartment, Evan looks at Kelly and says "I want to go home to Chicago…"
