Eddie's thoughts:
That morning when Eddie walked into shift and saw buck and kelly standing together talking to bobby, holding hands, well it hurt. He knows it's his fault nothing ever happened with Buck, but nonetheless it still stung.
He feels like he's losing his best friend and he doesn't know how to handle that, so he starts pushing away. He makes the decision to not take the coffee or danishes that they brought, purely being childish but it was justified to him.
Then Kelly tells the team that Buck has hazmat and that apparently he was on squad before coming here, well that just goes to show how much Eddie thought he knew about his so-called best friend.
He truly wants to hate Kelly, he does. But when Kelly starts talking to him in the gym, he can see how much the man truly does love Buck and regrets what happened between them, so Eddie starts to let go of the anger. He decides to try to make an effort with the couple to be both of their friends.

Meanwhile back at Evan's and Kelly's apartment.
"You want to go back to chicago?" Kelly asks, stunned.
"Yea." Evan says scrubbing a hand over his face.
"Bobby made it very clear this shift, that he never thought I was capable of having the certifications that I do, and then with Eddie being a wild card, and Bobby not even reading my file, just assuming I was fresh out of the academy. " Evan takes a deep breath, becoming frustrated as he remembers his confrontation with Bobby in the kitchen when they got back from the accident yesterday while Kelly was in the gym with Eddie.

Flashback.

Buck walks up the steps to the kitchen seeing that Bobby's making lunch, he thinks this is as good of time as any to talk to the captain about not reading his file, as there's noone around. Kelly and Eddie are in the gym and Hen and Chim stocking the ambulance.
"So Bobby, why didn't you read my file and find out everything about my past history as a firefighter?" Evan asks, as he takes an apple from the fruit basket, taking a bite he sits on a stool at the island, awaiting his captain's response.
Bobby sighs, putting down the cheese he was gyrating for the mac and cheese, he then explained "when I first saw you and saw how you were on calls I never thought you'd have any experience, I thought you were an over eager kid trying to prove himself. I didn't know that there was a history with firefighting. Even though I thought that, that doesn't excuse me from not reading your file. So I'm sorry, I should have, honestly I've never even opened your file." Bobby admits ashamed of himself, he glances at Buck who is angry and hurt, he feels betrayed by the man he looked up to like a father.
"Well, yes I was trying to prove myself, I was at a new house that was completely different from what I was used to. I was hoping to prove that I was more than all my certifications and I was a damn good firefighter." Buck says fuming.
"Buck, I'm sorry. You are a good firefighter, yes you still jump into danger when you shouldn't-" buck cuts bobby off there saying "that's the dmn job, this whole career is dangerous, I just go the extra mile that's all, like i was showed to do by some of the best damn firefighters i know, kelly being one of them."
"Buck-" Bobby tries again but Buck shakes his head saying "no, dont, I know where I stand in your eyes, just a kid that knows nothing. At least that's how you had me pegged.." buck says then goes to the locker room to cool off before he goes to the gym to find kelly. Just as Buck exits the locker room Bobby yells out that lunch is ready..

Kelly's fuming after Evan explained what happened with Bobby that shift.
"For fuck sakes, your one of the best damn firefighters I know, you go the extra mile for anyone, you have a heart of gold and your damn good at your job. I'm sorry that he doesn't see that." Kelly says embracing Evan, kissing him tenderly, then the kiss picks up urgency.
Evan breaks the kiss, just for a moment saying "thank you, but I need you right now. Make love to me kelly." Evan begs
"Of course." Kelly says capturing Evan's lips with his own again. Kelly's hands roam Evan's sides, and back around to his ass, as they walk backwards to the stairs.

After an hour of love making, Kelly and Evan get a shower and get dressed. "So we never really finished our talk." Kelly says as he starts making bacon and omelets.
"I know, I do want to go back to Chicago for a lot of reasons if that's okay with you?" Evan says as he helps cut up the ingredients for the omelets.
"I want to as well, It just doesn't feel like home here." Kelly explains, sighing as he turns to look at Evan. "I just don't feel like this place is a family, or that they will have my back if something happens. I miss Chicago but I'll stand by your side no matter what." Kelly tells his fiance.
"I know, I'm honestly starting to feel the same. I know they'd save me if something happens but I don't feel like that would be there for me afterwards as they'd probably think it was all my fault as I'm too reckless. I am honestly ready to come home to my family, the one that I just fell into. I didn't have to work for it like I have the 118." Evan explained, sighing. He puts the knife down from chopping the ingredients and puts them in the bowl. Kelly comes over and runs his back soothingly, then kisses his cheek, saying "okay, I feel the same. You wanna call Boden before you call bobby?" Kelly asks as he puts the omelets into the frying pan.
"Yea I'll call Boden now, then I think we should make a visit to Bobby's instead of calling him." Evan says, Kelly nods and dials Bodens number, putting it on speaker.
Boden: chief Boden.
Kelly: Hey chief how are you? It's Severide.
Boden: Hey Severide, how are you and Evan? I heard you guys are engaged.
Kelly chuckles at this and smiles like a goof.
Kelly: We are good, and yes we are engaged. Actually Evan's right here beside me, your on speaker.
Evan: Hey chief.
Boden: Hey evan, it's nice to hear from you both. Glad you guys are finally engaged. So what do I owe the pleasure of this call to?
Kelly and Evan both smile, Evan takes a deep breath then says,
Evan: We want to come back to Chicago, to 51 if at all possible. I'd also like to be on squad 3 but I understand if that's not possible with Kelly and I getting married.
Evan rambles, fiddling with the hem of his shirt. Kelly puts a reassuring arm on his lover's shoulder, smiling at the younger man.
Boden: Well I definitely didn't expect this, this soon. But I'm glad you two want to come home. I'd put you on squad 3 evan but I need a Lieutenant for the new squad rig 51 is getting. Think you're up for it?
Evan gasps, he took his Lieutenants exam and made Lieutenant before he left but never thought he would be able to be a Lieutenant at 51 on a squad rig.
Evan: I'd love to, that would be amazing.
Kelly: So, Grissom finally got squad 9 approved for 51 as the second squad rig?
Boden: yep as of last week.
Kelly: That's great, so can I have my spot back?
Boden: Absolutely, your replacement will go over to the engine for a shift when you get back but then they will go to a different house.
Kelly: Okay, who's my replacement?
Boden: You're not gonna be happy, but Eric Whaley is your replacement.
Kelly scoffs then rubbing a hand over his face he says,
Kelly: Okay well at least he knows the truth about Renee now from when I had my neck surgery and he was my replacement.
But he doesn't know that I'm Bi..
Boden: I'm sure it'll be okay for a shift. Can you guys get back here for Monday when the new rig gets here? I'll also send over some files of people that are good candidates for the squad.
Kelly looks at Evan, they both nod to each other, silently agreeing to be ready for the following Monday as it's Tuesday already.
Kelly Evan: sure thing
Boden: okay see you then I'll put the paper work through.
Evan: Thanks Chief, this means a lot.
Boden: No problem, your both family.
With that they say their goodbyes and hang up.
Once off the phone, Kelly plates the food that they cooked, and goes to sit down and eat it with Evan.
"So how are you with Eric being at the house for a shift? I know we were barely together when he was at the house last time, are you gonna be okay with him knowing about us or do you wanna keep us a secret?" Evan asks, sadly playing with his food. He doesn't like hiding him and Kelly never has. He's done with hiding who he truly is.
"Ev, I'm fine with him knowing. Yes he's probably gonna be a prick about it but I dont give a damn. I want the whole world to know that you're mine and I'm yours. That you are my true love." Kelly says, squeezing Evan's hand lovingly.
"Okay, I want that too, Kel, I'm tired of hiding who I am." Evan says smiling sadly at the other Lieutenant.
"I know babe, I can only imagine how it's been for you the last three and a half years." Kelly states kissing Evan's knuckles.
"So are you ready to go to Bobby's and tell him we are leaving?" Kelly asks
"Yes, I am. I do want to work one last shift so that way I can say goodbye to everyone." Evan states putting his plate in the dishwasher as Kelly does the same.
"Okay that's fine with me, we both can work one last shift, then it's back home to where we belong." The older of the two says, then he kisses Evan tenderly.
Evan breaks the kiss after a moment, needing air and says "we should probably head out before this turns into more than a kiss." Evan says, making Kelly chuckle.
"You're probably right." He says.
Evan grabs his keys to his jeep and they lock up the apartment then they head to Bobby and Athenas.
—--
They arrive at their destination 25 minutes later.
Ecan knocks on the door with Kelly standing by his side, holding his hand giving the other man strength.
Athena opens the door, surprised to see the pair, but invites them in saying "well this is a nice surprise. What do we owe the pleasure to?" She asks.
"We need to talk to Bobby, is he around?" Evan asks
Athena looks concerned but nods then says "he's in the back yard.everything okay buck?" Athena says and asks.
"Yep." Buck says popping the p sound, making Kelly chuckle lightly.
Athena eyes them suspiciously but nods then leads them to the back yard.
"Bobby look who made a surprise visit." Athena tells her husband, her voice is cherry but her eyes tell her husband that she's concerned.
"Hey, Buck, Kelly, what's up?" Bobby asks, handing each man a beer from the cooler beside him and gestures for them to sit in the chairs across from him.
"Hey bobby, listen, we've talked about this and we have decided we are going home to chicago." Buck tells the man that took over as a father figure when he came here.
Bobby sighs rubbing a hand over his face, Athenas the first to speak.
"Are you sure buck, what about Maddie?" The woman who is like a mother to him asks.
Buck sighs, then says "she will understand." He scrubs a hand over his face, he locks eyes with Kelly, who smiles softly at him. Buck then adds "we will still want you guys to come to our wedding, and I'll visit when I can, but this is the right move for me. For us."
Bobby finally speaks, saying "is this about me not reading your file?" He asks
Buck huffs, shaking his head, he tells the older man "No, did it hurt, yes. But it's not the only reason or even the main reason why I wanna go home. Chicago was my home for 8 years, I shouldn't have left when or how I did. I can't get that back, but I can fix what I did now. So I'm going to." Buck explained.
"Okay, have you talked to your old Chief yet?" Bobby asks.
"Yes, he wants us there by monday, as he has a new rig he wants Evan to be the Lieutenant of." Kelly finally pipes up saying. Evan sends a pointed look at kelly, as bobby nor anyone in L.A knew he was a Lieutenant.
"What?" Kelly asks
"Nobody here knows I'm a Lieutenant. Evan says, running a hand throw his hair, taking a swig of his beer.
"Oh." Kelly simply says then Bobby pipes up saying, "you're a Lieutenant?"
"Yes, it was in my file." Buck says pointedly.
"Fair enough." Bobby says then adds "okay, I'll put the transfer through. Can you guys work one more shift?" He asks
"Yes." They both say in unison.
"Okay, so I'll get everything done and see you next shift." Bobby says.
Kelly and Evan nod then they say their goodbyes and leave.
They go home and make love before they have to make dinner, they also have to talk to Maddie yet.
Evan is finally feeling a peace about him, it's not fully there yet but hes starting to feel it more than he has in 3 and a half years. He knows hes making the right choice.
Hes going home….
