*Sofia's POV*
We got home from Avalor a couple weeks before school started. Thankfully it also meant some alone time. Time to figure out what changed. I had felt the tingle when Elena was freed and the amulet changed color to a magenta pink color. I sat quietly fiddling with it when I thought of something.
"Blue please." I said.
The amulet shimmered and turned blue. Hmm. I spent a good solid couple days just working with the magic of the amulet now that it wasn't being blocked by a princess. I knew I could change into a mermaid but what about actual animals? I found that there was a limit. I couldn't transform into any animal that I hadn't seen with my own eyes. Which meant I could become any animal that I knew of such as a jaquin. I could transform into normal animals pretty well but for magical creatures I had to look at them to change such as a pegasus. Then I wondered what else I could do with the amulet.
I simply spent most of my free time learning more about the amulet and its powers. I smiled as I changed the color back to a purple pink color because I realized that if the Library were to call, the amulet would turn blue. I could still talk to my animal friends. Luna also spent those weeks right at my feet. I loved her. We also ran the junior knights course just for fun. I had managed to get Cedric to make sure the course was different every time. I noticed that when I considered him a brother and that I thought he was a great sorcerer, he was much nicer to me. We even played together or sat quietly as he worked on a potion. Wormwood, his crow, also grew to like me somewhat.
Before school started, Vivian, Amber, Khalid, Jun, James and I competed in a battle of the bands between us, Westloch a school to the north and the Junior Knights Academy. We played and won. Vivian got caught up in being the best but reigned it in and we all played together in the encore a few days later. Finally school started and we all waited out front in the courtyard. Vivian told me all about the rest of her summer. The fairies split everyone and soon we were walking to Majestic Hall. Eventually we made it to the classroom where our classes are to be held.
"Everyone, this is Professor Pecullian. He's going to be your teacher this year." Flora said.
Once we were seated, Professor Pecullian began to show his teaching methods. The class rocks back and forth and sometimes even diagonal. It was fun. I knew I would have a blast in this class.
"In this class, I want you to learn by doing, not reading. So the first project is Mystery Gardening." Pecullian said.
"Like Enchanted Gardening?" Desmond said.
"Nope. Mystery Gardening is vastly different because of the mystery." Pecullian said.
Each of us soon had a little tree and Pecullian explained that it would grow fruit if we find out what our trees liked. If we all grew fruit in time, we would make mystery jam. James figured out his first and found that his liked pudding. Vivian found that hers liked music. Amber found that hers liked compliments. I figured out the secret behind them, each liked what we liked.
I sighed, I know what mine would do. I pet the leaves of my tree. I really liked hugs but no one really gave hugs. Probably because I didn't get to hug anyone when I was in the village. I hugged mom as much as I could but that was all, of course there was Ruby and Jade but after I knocked a boy on his butt for trying to bully me, none of the villager kids wanted to be anywhere near me. I pet my tree and gave it love and affection watching as it grew purple fruit. Desmond finally figured his out and that his liked books. We made jam with the fruit and I kept some of the fruit because it was delicious.
*Cedric's POV*
I was invited to the Conjurers Conference, a gathering of every sorcerer from every kingdom, and I got to bring someone. I brought Sofia with me because I could. Plus it would be nice to have someone who didn't think I wasn't good. We stop by a sorceress who was painting an Enchanted Painting of the Mystic Isles.
"What are you painting?" Sofia asked politely.
"Those are the Mystic Isles, the place where all magic comes from." the sorceress said.
"Wow." Sofia said.
"It's also home to all sorts of magical creatures that we can't find here." the sorceress said.
Sofia and I continue to look around and Sofia meets up with another friend of hers. A weasel comes up to me to give me an invitation to a meeting of the greatest sorcerers in the world. I sighed but I went to it. It was attended by Grimtrix, Greylock, Morgana, Baron Von Rocha, the grumpy wizard I had bumped into earlier, and two others. The meeting was for all spellcasters who feel overlooked by Royals and believe that we should rule the kingdoms. It felt wrong, one because Sofia had changed my views on the royal family and they had actually been treating me better. I had finally been doing well in front of Roland and all that was because of Sofia. I had long ago abandoned my evil ways because of her. She saw me as an older brother and I wasn't going to throw that away.
I learned of Grimtix's plan and had gotten medusa stones. I don't know how he did but he did. When the meeting was over, I walked out but had ran into someone.
"Sofia?" I asked as I helped her up.
"Cedric. Why would Grimtrix think you would be apart of such a horrible plan?" she asked.
I sighed and confessed to her and she was silent but smiled at me. She wrapped her arms around my waist. I had to protect my kingdom and those of the others. So I took the medusa stone that was meant for me and left. I broke it as soon as I could. Wormwood had surprisingly followed my plan. When I was doing that, Sofia was getting the other sorcerers. We had to go soon and once we landed at the palace, I put up a barrier. We got inside and Sofia went to tell her parents.
Sofia and I waited for Grimtrix to arrive because I knew that he would come here if I didn't do my part. Sofia was really smart and I was proud to call her my little sister. I was going to blast him when he arrived but Sofia motioned to not do it. We waited till Grimtrix revealed his plan and froze the king and queen. Then before Grimtrix could do anything, Sofia had grabbed him. I moved thinking she would be hurt but she flipped him and ripped his staff from his hands. She pulled the stone off and dropped it. Grimtrix tried to hurt her but instead I punched him and he went down. Sofia called the guards and Grimtrix was led away.
I turned to Sofia and hugged her. We then went to go take back the other kingdoms. It felt good too because I had been known as Cedric the Sensational. I was known as the Sensational by the kingdom but Great by Sofia. All I needed was her opinion and that was fine by me. Roland tried to have me removed because of my previous thoughts, but it was Sofia that convinced him not to by revealing her own relationship with James. I was just happy that I had Sofia by my side.
That night I decided to spend time in her room instead of her coming to me. I told her stories of the fabled Wicked Nine and how they were spread out across different kingdoms. Rumor had it that two of the wicked nine were incredibly hard to get too and nigh impossible to find.
*Sir Finnegan's POV*
I had come by to conduct James' Junior Knights test because it was that time. He had been training for it for a while now. I got there and was going to set up the course when Sofia came by. She was in a pair of pants and a sleeveless shirt. Over it was her set of armor she got from one of the knights. I chuckled.
"Well hello Sofia." I said as I jokingly bowed.
"Finnegan." she said as she tackled me in a hug. "What are you doing here?"
"I'm here to conduct James' Junior Knights test." I told her.
"Oh, the course is already set." Sofia said.
I looked to where she was pointing and I was shocked. It was different but no less inclusive of things knights had to do. Sofia smirked.
"It's only different because of my level. All you have to do is call out for the actual test course and it'll appear. Cedric enchanted the course so that I could adjust it to my needs and wants and abilities." Sofia said.
I chuckled, "Well, it's obvious you've been working on it. Say, would you want to run through it again after James? Just for the fun of it?"
"Sure. I'm going to be watching anyway." Sofia said.
Soon James came and so did the King and Queen. I stood by the timer and flipped it to start James off. At first, he did well, but he got to the wall and that proved to be his downfall. He vaulted over it instead of climbing the ladder and landed in a puddle. He failed to cross the finish line in time.
"I'm sorry Prince James. You have failed the Junior Knights test." I said.
"What?! How was I supposed to know there would be a puddle there?" James protested.
I explained to him what he did wrong. I looked up just in time to see the course change to a much much harder looking course. It was actually the Senior Knight's course. How Sofia knew about it I have no idea but she did.
"Sofia dear." I called out.
"Yes?!" she called back.
"For this course, we actually need two knights present to conduct it. It's actually the Senior Knights test and is the hardest of the tests for those who wish to become a knight." I said.
Her eyes twinkled, "I know. Bartleby is here again."
I looked and saw him. I had to laugh because Sofia lives up to her title of a genius. Sometimes people forget that under her shell was a very very bright kid. I chuckled and started her. She took off and with her speed, I believe she would pass with the fastest time and set a new record. She did. The old record for the course was about ten minutes because of the difficulty. She set the new record to be seven minutes.
"Well done Sofia. You actually set a new record." I said.
She grinned slightly out of breath, "That was fun."
I then took James aside to tell him what he needed to work on and in a couple of weeks, he could retest and try again.
*Sofia's POV*
My amulet had glowed blue after the course and I headed for the Library. After I arrived, the Library lit up and picked a book called the Tale of the Eternal Torch. The story is about the dragons that live in the Blazing Palisades and how their home is in danger by sea monsters who want the Palisades for themselves by replacing the Eternal Torch with something called the Forever Fountain. The Forever Fountain has the ability to drown out the island's fires and chase the dragons away. So I gotta go see my friends again.
I saddled up Tempest to go and gave her a snack for the road. We flew off for the Blazing Palisades. When I get there, very very soon, James comes and lands next to me with his horse.
"James? What are you doing here?" I asked, annoyed.
"Sir Finnegan told me I needed to practice my knight skills in the real world and I overheard you talking. So I followed you." he said. "Plus, I wanna try and beat you."
I shook my head but before I could say anything, the sea monsters were coming. I grabbed James and hid. I tried, I really did try, to keep James from being stupid but he gave away the path to the top. I tackled James before he could get trampled.
"James, you just revealed the path to them." I said.
"How was I supposed to know they'd see me?" James protested.
Just then Flambeau poked his head out of the cave.
"I thought I heard a familiar voice, hello Sofia." Flambeau said.
"Hi Flambeau. A sea serpent is trying to take your island." I said calmly.
"Oh, its Aqualina again." he said.
"I know, there's a bridge that we can destroy and stop them. We can get there much faster underground." Flambeau said.
James was being hot headed again and took off on Smokely to stop the sea monsters. I had Flambeau catch up while I went underground with Nitelite. We got there just in time to hear James getting scolded by Flambeau. Not in time to stop the sea serpents though as they ran by us. Then we run through the tunnels to Everburn and warn him.
*Everburn's POV*
Man, I was having the best dream when I was woken up. I groggily reached for my cup of water and someone gave it to me. I woke up a little bit more and saw my favorite Princess.
"Sofia? That you kiddo?" I asked.
"Hi Mr. Everburn." she said with a chuckle. "Um, I hate to bring bad news, but sea serpents are invading."
I sighed and got up to look. I looked to see Aquilina again. So we went to stop her and James, the boy with Sofia, wanted to help.
"Kid, when your the elder dragon, you get to make the decisions. But for right now, I want you over there, out of harms way." I said as I gently pushed him towards the rocks.
Sofia stood next to me but I gently put her down too and she just smirked. When the serpents came up though, I heard Sofia gasp in surprise.
"Dorsal?" Sofia asked.
"Sofia?" the smallest of the sea monsters said.
"Well, aren't you looking good." Sofia said.
"Yeah. It healed nicely thanks to you." Dorsal said.
"Uh, Sofia? Do you know these ladies?" I asked.
"Yes. Dorsal was one of many animals I helped heal back to health." Sofia said.
"Huh." I said.
"You are the one to save her?" Aqualina said.
"Yes." Sofia said.
We sat talking. It was kind of nice just talking. Then James interrupted the nice conversation we were having.
"You know, you still haven't solved the whole torch/fountain thing." he said.
Sofia glared at him before looking at the fountain.
"Everburn, does the torch have a similar hole in the top?" she asked.
"I don't know." I said.
"Come on then. Let's find out." she said.
All of us were curious as to how she's going to solve this to the point of not even noticing the fact we were going together. When we got to the top, the torch didn't have a top to it. Sofia looked at the fountain and then the torch.
"I've got an idea. Dorsal, help me remove the torch." Sofia said.
"You got it kid."
We all watched as Sofia replaced the torch with the fountain but immediately stuck the torch on top of the fountain. I was curious as to what that would do and surprisingly enough, the top half of the palisades were fire and the bottom half was water.
"You know, this island is pretty big, so I guess we can share." I said, "We really only need the top half."
"Well I guess if someone as stubborn as you is agreeing then I guess we can too. Plus the bottom half we can access." Aqualina said.
Sofia turned to James, "James, what did you learn from this?"
"Jumping into things without thinking them through got me into more trouble." James said.
"Good. Then I think you're ready for the test." Sofia said.
Sofia gave us all hugs before the two took off to go back home. I turned to Aqualina and just smiled.
"I guess it was meant to be huh?" I said.
"I guess so." she said with a chuckle.
*Sofia's POV*
We got back and James retook the test. This time James took time to think things through and he passed.
"Good job James." I said.
"Thanks. Maybe you could help me with getting to the next one?" he asked.
"Sure." I said.
I walked off to go enjoy my secret garden.
AN: Hey everyone! So sorry for the late updates, the past couple weeks have been hectic with midterms and other things. Anyway, we're finally in Season 4. Certain Season 4 Episodes will be skipped but replaced with hopefully methods that suit what I'm trying to work in this.
On another note, people are closer, it is one of the Protectors. Chrysta will be brought in the next couple of chapters.
