Chapter 64: Tailing a Comet Part 2:Battling(Allura's POV)
Author's Note: This chapter will be a long one, as it is part of a big battle and the episode in cannon focuses on the dynamic of Shiro not trusting Keith(which I totally didn't get as Shiro chose Keith, he should trust his decisions, but no, the clone just forgot that apparently) so this chapter will focus on that with Marinette(as I feel having someone Shiro didn't chose to pilot Black, pilot Black is more of a reason for Shiro to not trust that person). Anyways on to the chapter, I hope you guys enjoy:)
Allura sighs as she flies in Blue. She told Marinette that the Lone Ship would cause problems. But did she listen, nooooo. But that's in the past. And how she handled it and Marinette's decision was childish anyways.
Still, she was right and Marinette was wrong.
And she is glad Shiro is back. Maybe things could go back to how they used to be. But Black hasn't stopped responding to Marinette. Evident by the fact Marinette is leading them to the spot where the comet was signaling off of.
She is glad that Pidge made the Castle sensitive to the comet's pulse, otherwise they would have had no chance at finding it.
Her mind again goes to the thought that Shiro is indeed back from the dead. And again her heart flutters. But she shakes herself, this isn't the time for romance or having crushes. It's about fighting for other people.
And tonight they'll put a stop to whatever the Galra has planned with that comet. Coming closer in range she can see that there's a galra base floating. Looks like a pit stop for Galra spaceships. There's no way they can get close enough with their lions without fighting.
Her scanners indicate that the comet is inside the base. Allura smiles, hopefully they haven't made anything out of that comet yet. Otherwise things could get dicey. She does remember that Marinette has a failsafe, a thing called a 'Lucky Charm' which would help them if things do indeed get dicey.
"Alright, should we go in, guns blazing? Or go into the space station first and check to see what they're doing with the comet?" Hunk suggests.
Marinette sighs, "It would be better to get a closer look at what they are doing. But at the same time it would also be better just to get the attack over with to not give the Galra more time. What does everyone else think?"
Lance replies, "I say we go in and attack right away. We've already wasted enough time as it is informing Shiro about what's happened in detail and looking for the comet for three days."
"And it wouldn't give the Galra any more time to do whatever they have planned for the comet." Pidge pipes up.
Allura nods, fighting right away would be the sensible thing. And Lance is right, they wasted enough time already by giving the Galra three days to do whatever to the comet. Besides, the Galra aren't expecting an attack from Voltron.
Lotor's POV
Guards swarm around him. Lotor sighs, of course Haggar saw everything she needed when he killed Narti, who was her spy. After all Haggar wouldn't like anything he does to be a secret, now does she. That witch almost may cost him everything he's going to build.
He wants to remake the Galra Empire, not destroy it! How dare she accuse him of treason. At least his generals haven't left his side yet. As he does promise them with the access to Quintessence. A thing which only the witch, his father and the witches druids were only allowed to access.
"Get to the ships!"
Luckily it only took them three days to complete the Syncline ships, a set of three ships that rival Voltron in power. It cannot destroy Voltron, but it can defeat it. Just as Voltron cannot destroy the Syncline ships but it can defeat them.
Which should make combat ever more exciting, as they battle far longer than a mere Galra fleet could against Voltron.
He also looks forward to fighting the Red Lion, after all they have some unfinished business. Mainly Red's pilot plot for revenge. However he'd be lying if he wasn't joyful at the prospect of fighting Red again, even if Red was just in for revenge.
Combat, such a wonderful work of art. Any combat technique is like a dancers choreography, every move thought of, the fighters moving in sync: doding and hitting, or slashing and stabbing, or shielding themselves and firing blasters.
Everything coming together in the fight like a Maestro directing a symphony.
Inside the first ship, it's color is a lighter purple than the other ships. It also has some eyes. As he intends for the ship to function exactly like Voltron. Expect only needing three ships.
Three ships against five. Such beauty will come from it when they fight against Voltron again. Though now is not the time for such fantasies. As he has to escape, or his plan will fail. His plan for a better future, his plan for peace.
He will survive this, he'll make sure he does. As no one but himself knows his plans. The exact detail that lines it. He does not want to become one for those leaders from the past as when they died their closest friends and allies interrupted their vision differently.
He will not become that. He will see his vision carried out. Otherwise the plan will fail, and peace might never be obtained. Even if someday he has to work with Voltron to achieve it. He will. His plan must come into fruition.
Marinette's POV
They started attacking the base. Something seems off though. When she looks at the Galra soldiers, they seem to be fighting one another. Now what caused that?
She has a sneaking suspicion it might have to Zarkon and maybe an heir of his. Otherwise she can't see any reason for the soldiers to be fighting one another. Then three ships come flying out. All of them are purple, except the one in the middle is a light purple. It has darker purple eyes that are ovals but have pointed tips.
Other than that the ships don't really stand out much. However her lion's radar is going like crazy signaling that those ships have the comet. But the comet is huge. Unless, oh no! The Galra have done it. They successfully made ships out of the comet.
"Team, the three ships are made out of the comet! We need to attack them and capture all three ships before we lose them!"
Suddenly Shiro's voice rings out, "But if you do that, the cargo ship that is also leaving has the teludav from our strike on Zarkon. I say leave the ships and destroy it. Because if they get it working again they could pull the same stunt we did."
Of course this mission wasn't going to be easy. Of course.
"Alright, Yellow, Blue I want you to attack that cargo ship, meanwhile me, Red and Green are going to try and slow those ships down!"
"Copy that team leader!" Lance yells, while the others nod.
Marinette sighs in relief. She leads the others to the three ships. Red stops in front of the ships, as it is the faster one out of their team of five lions. Pidge and her surround the sides, making sure to let the ships know that they are surrounded.
Then she leads with the first blast. It hits, but the ship she hit doesn't look damaged at all. The side isn't burning up with fire either. Not a scratch. Marinette swallows, this is going to be tough.
Then the ship fires at her and she dodges, doing a backflip with her lion. That was close, way too close. As they don't know what these ships are capable of.
They need something more. Something more than their lions pure strength. So she gets out of her pilot's chair. Aware she is letting herself be open to an attack.
Marinette grabs her yo-yo that is inside her suit. She swings it to the ceiling and shouts, "Lucky Charm!" But nothing drops into her hands. And then she hears a clunk and her lion shakes. Quickly she runs to the pilot seat and pulls up a map of her lion that shows her what her lion is like now. On top of the lion sits a huge ion cannon.
She wasn't aware her Lucky Charm could make mech level weapons. But it's what the Lucky Charm gave, now she just has to….
"Woah! What is that!? Some kind of Ladybug ion cannon?!" Lance yells over the comms.
Marinette nods, "That's exactly what it is. Now I just have to figure out how to use it."
Because most of her Lucky Charms are always cryptic and until she sees something that makes her connect the dots then she won't be able to use the Lucky Charm effectively. Which in this situation, if she doesn't figure out something soon, then it will get worse.
Which is not something she wants to happen. She swerves and looks back to the cargo ship. Galra fighters are attacking the Yellow and the Green lions, making them unable to destroy the ship.
Crap!
But then she sees the ship covered with an all red covering, except for the black dots all surrounded by gray. She swerves and sees…. "Marinette hurry up, one of them is going to get away! Shoot at the cargo ship!" Shiro shouts.
Marinette ignores him. She knows what she has to do. Thinking quickly she dives at the ships, firing her lasers. Come on, take the bait. Take the bait. Yes, all the ships fire at her. She dodges and it hits the cargo ship with the teludav. Sending the ship into flames. Then she spins around and fires her ladybug coloured ion cannon at the ships. It blasts them at full force. But Marinette can't see if the blast pushed them away or if it just stunned them.
She smiles in victory, she managed to trick them into a shoot and miss.
Lance flies Red to where the blast is and scowls, "That blast shot them away. I'll go after them and capture them. That way the comet…"
"Lance, we destroyed the teludav. And there are other days for us to fight those ships." Shiro says firmly.
"Shiro, I think we should Lance scout for a bit. Just to see if the blast sent those ships close to us. Just to make sure. We don't want them to escape if they're close to our location." she argues.
"Thank you Marinette. How far would you like me to search?"
"In a ten km diameter. And if you can't find anything, report to the Castle, and come back."
Lance nods and the Red lion flies off.
She flies the Black Lion back to the ship, and Tikki appears beside her. "Hi Tikki. I'm just heading back to the Castle so you can get food when we land. Okay?"
Tikki nods, "Did it go okay?"
"Yeah. Nothing great happened. The comet is gone again and Shiro tried to tell me how to lead. Although Lance is looking for the comet right now."
"On his own?"
"Lance is dependable. He'll be fine on his own."
"Like Chat is?"
"Chaton can also handle being on his own. Besides, I need to trust Lance. He is my right hand, figuratively and literally as he is piloting the Red Lion which is the right hand of Voltron."
Tikki rolls her eyes, "Whatever you say Marinette. And why is Shiro questioning you. I thought he trusted you to lead?"
"He doesn't. Because I'm not Keith. But I'll prove him wrong. The Black Lion is letting me still pilot him."
Tikki claps her hands, or little nubs, whatever, and says, "That's a good attitude. Besides I know you'll make Shiro proud that you are the leader of Team Voltron. One way or the other."
"Thank you Tikki."
At the Galra Headquarters:(No One's POV)
A hooded figure whispers, "It'll be alright Emperor Zarkon. Your body just needs to heal. And in order for me to do that I need to probe your mind. Please forgive me when you wake up."
The hooded figure places her purple hands on the Emperor's forehead. A bright light shines.
Suddenly the hooded figure collapses onto the ground.
"No it's not possible! Lotor cannot be my son!" The figure wails. "I am Haggar! Not Honevra! I can't be!"
The silent chamber offers the hooded figure no comfort. Neither does the sleeping Emperor. Her wails continue, but still no one comes to the hooded one's rescue. Memories long forgotten have awoken inside the hooded one's mind. Memories that have led to this heartbreaking sound of silence, filled with dreadful wails as the hooded one refuses to accept memories that are indeed hers.
