"Luz Noceda." Luz looked up to see the snake-headed history teacher of Hexside glaring at her. At the teacher's side, he clutched the arm of a familiar blonde witch with pointed ears.
"Hunter?!" She squeaked in surprise. Across from her, Amity did a spit take. Willow and Gus beside them looked shocked, and Gus narrowly dodged Amity's drink.
The older boy glared at Luz, practically pouting in fury. "Yes, we caught him attempting to sneak into the teacher's lounge. Twice. I suggest you explain to him why it is inappropriate to do so."
"Uh…why me?" Luz asked bluntly.
"He's your brother, I expect you have some experience in wrangling him."
Luz's jaw dropped, "I…My…what?"
"I'm not related to her!" Hunter barked.
The teacher scoffed, "You are in the potions track, you cannot do magic naturally, and you are just as mischievous as this lot. I see right through you, mister…Clawthorne. That is no cause to be rude to your sister. If I catch you again…!"
Luz suddenly grinned. She grabbed Hunter's wrist and yanked him toward the table. He stumbled in surprise, "Don't worry, I'll keep him out of trouble! Isn't that right, older brother?"
He groaned in exasperation and tried to push her hand off. The teacher smirked in satisfaction, "I will leave you to it. Give my regards to Eda."
"We will!" Luz said with a grin. She gave the teacher a wave and gave Hunter a tug in the direction of the seats nearby. Despite himself, he sat down. "So, big bro, you remember my girlfriend Amity…"
Amity glowered at Hunter. "If you pull anything…"
"Funny, I was just about to say the same thing."
"That's Gus, and that's Willow," Luz said, gesturing to the others.
"Isn't that the Golden - oof!"
Willow swatted Gus's arm, and chuckled, "Luz, I didn't know you had an older brother!"
Amity gave a huff, then felt her scroll buzz. She took it out and blinked at the text message in the group chat she shared with her siblings.
"Hey, mittens! I didn't know L had an older brother! Want to introduce us?" Edric added a wink emoji, and a face with two hearts for eyes.
She whipped her head around to glare at her twins across the cafeteria. Edric grinned, his teeth fully exposed, as he pointed in Hunter's direction. Emira rolled her eyes and took out her scroll. "He started squealing when Ls bro came in. Help".
"Text Viney she'll save you" Amity typed rapidly with a scowl.
Hunter muttered curses under his breath. He just managed to get away from the human and continue on his mission.
He tilted his head in reflex, dodging a water balloon filled with some acidic potion just in time. The guard whirled about to see a three-eyed girl with maroon hair at the end of the hall, grimacing and shaking her fist at the miss. "Hey, loser! You've got better reflexes than your sister does!"
"She's not my sister!"
"How come you got round ears then?" She called out, "Oh but wait! You're adopted!"
"So's…your dad!" He snarled, grabbed a poster off the wall, balled it up, and hurled it her way.
The girl barely dodged it, then ducked around the corner. "Freaking siblings…!" He heard her mutter, and then there was the sound of footsteps.
"How did she even know about that?" He muttered under his breath, as he continued on his mission. "...how many know?"
Within an hour, most recognized him as being the human's "big bro".
That afternoon, The Owl Lady arrived to pick Luz up. She swept in on her palisman, close to the edge of the school grounds. Hunter watched from afar, hidden in the bushes. He watched Luz have a quiet exchange with Eda. She gesticulated wildly, and Eda nodded several times.
Suddenly, she grinned. She straightened up, and said in a stage low voice, "Is your brother going to come out of the bushes yet? We have to get going!"
"Oh come on!" He shouted, on pure reflex with his frustration at an all-time high.
Eda tilted her head, "Ah! There he is."
