Well helloooooooooo everybody!
Man, the game continues to grow along with the game. The new archetypes and support for certain decks gives me a lot to work with and I think I can make them work, especially since I allowed Link summoning to exist. However, those who actually like Rush Duels(which I PRAY are few in number), don't expect me to add that to the story cause it is just… dumb.
But the best thing about this year is the new Yugioh game: Master Duel. I can't tell you how much time I put into that game to get cards, build decks and beat people. I will leave my duelist ID at the end of this chapter for anyone who wants to follow me. Who knows? Maybe we can have a mini tournament.
But that can be saved for later. TO THE REVIEWS!
Dragon king156: Sheesh, you just predicted some of the duels in the story. But I do like the idea of Fumikage vs Tenya. As for Bruno… I will think about him being Antimony.
Dragon Rider 66: I like some of the Xtra Heroes, but the Code Talkers are some of my best with my Mathmechs. I understand why it feels weird she doesn't have a rose deck for Black Rose Moonlight Dragon, but since she's a confirmed fan of motorcycles, I thought of her using Formula Athletes would work. But she might use rose cards later.
Shadow Joestar: You'll like this next chapter. Trust me.
KingJGamer: The signature cards from the anime will appear little by little throughout the story. Glad you like Dragonmaids, which will appear later on the story.
MechaDragon99: Kinda, but I am open to Yugioh girls. Don't wanna make it too big, though.
Geek-Mytho: Ayyy. Glad to hear of another fan of Formula Athletes. Though, having Itsuka Kendo yelling Roadkill is… kinda out of character.
Skyfire85: I have an arc for Katsuki later on, so I had to keep Mineta. Though I've come to somewhat bear his character since he has shown signs of growth(though like him, they're short).
To recap: As a way to train his students in using the new Link summoning mechanic for Duel Monsters and to help them prepare for Turbo Duels, All Might decided to ask a teacher named Bruno if he would allow them to use his new Prototype Duel runner. After a bit of an explanation about how Link summoning works, All Might then had Itsuka Kendo and Fumikage Tokoyami compete in a simulated Turbo Duel, pitting her Formula Athletes against his Blackwings. During the intense duel, Kendo decided to bring out her ace, Black Rose Moonlight Dragon. However, the duel was suddenly interrupted by a strange power outage, which seemed to cause Izuku's Stardust Spark Dragon to react?
How will things go for Duel Academy? And who will show off their skills today? Let's find out…
'Kamino Duel Stadium, night'
"This is intense, folks! The duel between Zane Truesdale and Maxwell Zones is getting heated up!" The tv announcer said in a dramatic tone while observing the Turbo Duel in front of him, the cheers of thousands of fans ringing around. The lights were focused on the duel track, with two Duel Runners driving through it at high speed.
"Think you can keep up with the big dogs, kid?!" The Duelist in front, driving a green and orange Duel Runner, called out with an arrogant tone. Next to him were two monsters: a Dark Horus and Dark General Freed. He also had one continuous Trap card activated: Shadow Spell.
Maxwell Zones: 3150 Life Points.
The other duelist said nothing as he continued to drive his white and blue Duel Runner, with one monster next to him. The monster was a long metal serpent-like robotic dragon with yellow eyes, chains wrapped around it.
"Not gonna say anything, huh? Alright! Fine with me!" Maxwell shouted before he turned around, driving backwards while extending a hand towards the robot dragon. "Dark Horus, attack his Cyber Dragon and end this duel! Nightmare Gale!" The large winged beast screeched as it began to fly towards Cyber Dragon. Opening its talons, the large beast swooped down and slashed the machine, causing it to explode. Its owner said nothing as the shockwave hit him, leaving him with only 900 life points left. "Dark General Freed, finish this!" The second monster opened its hand and unleashed a beam of energy.
"I activate my trap card, Power Wall!" Maxwell's opponent interfered as he waved his arm, allowing his facedown card to rise. The card had an image of a warrior blocking an attack with a glowing shield. "Power Wall can prevent me from taking damage, but I have to send cards from the top of my deck to the graveyard based on the damage I take times 500. Since your Dark General has 2300 attack points…" The opponent drew five cards from the top of his deck and sent them into his graveyard. "I have to send five cards to the graveyard!" Before Freed's attack could hit, a yellow barrier appeared around the opponent, shielding him from the assault.
"Incredible folks. Up and comer Zane Truesdale just saved himself from the defeat that would've ended his chances at being the Kamino Champion! But with only 900 life points and one card in his hand, how WILL he win?!" The announcer commented in a dramatic tone as everyone continued to cheer.
"I end my turn…" Maxwell begrudgingly said, annoyed that his victory was taken from him.
"Man, this is getting CRAZY!" Ochaco said out loud as she watched the duel from inside the living room of the dorms, with several of her classmates joining her.
"WAIT!" Bursting through the doors in a hurry were none other than Mina Ashido, Eijiro Kirishima and Denki Kaminari. Judging by the sweat running down their faces, they were running for their lives.
"Did… did we miss it?" Kaminari asked between breaths, using Kirishima as a balance.
"You almost missed Truesdale's epic counter. I thought he was finished for sure." Jirou told them while sipping her tea bottle.
"But he kept his composure and countered perfectly. Like a true professional duelist!" Momo added with an unexpectedly excited tone.
"Hey, it's his turn now!" Sato called out while pointing to the screen. Everyone shut up while they rushed to the screen.
"It's my turn." Zane Truesdale declared calmly while drawing his next card. He glanced at it and mildly smiled before he started to accelerate, driving past his opponent. "First, I activate the spell Cards of Demise." A spell card with an image of a man putting his hand through a guillotine while holding a card appeared in front of Zane. "This lets me draw until I have five cards in my hand. But if I don't use any of those cards in five turns, I have to discard my entire hand." He then drew until he got a full hand. "Because I have no other monster on my field while you have monsters, I can special summon a Cyber Dragon from my hand." Another copy of Cyber Dragon appeared in front of Zane. "I activate Monster Reborn to revive my Cyber Dragon!" A light emerged on the field before the robotic serpent returned next to its twin. "Now, I activate one of my trump cards."
"Ohhhhh damn! He's gonna use it!" Hagakure cheered while leaning in, predicting what he would use.
"I activate… Power Bond!" A spell card with an image of blow torch welding some metal appeared next to Zane's Duel Runner. "With this, I can fusion summon a machine type monster with monsters that are in my field. I fuse both my Cyber Dragons!" Both Cyber Dragons began to glow a bright yellow light before they fused together.
"INCREDIBLE! Zane Truesdale is about to show us a powerful monster with his ace card!" The announcer shouted in excitement as the light began to form into a new creature. Standing in front of Zane was a large mechanical dragon, with two heads coming out of a single body.
Cyber Twin Dragon: LV 8. Att: 2800/Def: 2100
"Damn! He really brought out one of his aces!" Kaminari blurted out with interest.
"And thanks to the effect of Power Bond, Cyber Twin Dragon's attack is doubled." Zane explained as his opponent widened his eyes.
Cyber Twin Dragon: Att: 2800-5600
"Even if you attack one of my monsters, I'll still have more than enough life points to beat you! Don't forget Power Bond's side effect!" Maxwell declared, having realized the consequence of Power Bond. However, Zane didn't seem affected as he left out a mild smirk.
"I'm not attacking your monster." Zane said, much to most of his fans' shock. "I'm attacking BOTH of your monsters!"
"That's right! Due to Cyber Twin Dragon's ability, it can attack twice this turn!" The announcer explained to everyone with an excited tone.
"OH COME ON!" Maxwell shouted in anger.
"Cyber Twin Dragon, attack! Twin Trident Burst!" The two headed machine opened both its mouths before unleashing two beams of electric energy. Both Freed and Horus could do nothing as Cyber Twin Dragon's attack engulfed them in a bright light, causing them to explode. Maxwell screamed as the remainder of his life points went to zero. His Duel Runner then stopped automatically as smoke came out of the side.
"INCREDIBLE, FOLKS! NOT ONLY DID ZANE USE HIS ACE SPELL, BUT HE UTTERLY DEMOLISHED MAXWELL!" The announcer shouted in an excited tone as the stadium erupted with cheers.
"HE DID IT!" Some of the 1-A students shouted, happy to see someone as young as Zane winning the duel, especially since he was known as the best machine type duelist of the previous generation.
"Did you see that combo?! Only he could pull something like that off!"
"His Cyber Dragons are some of the best fusion monsters out there! Only tied with All Might's Heroes!"
"Plus, he's really hot! Did you see that aloof look on his face?!"
"Tch. They're too loud sometimes." Reginald muttered as he watched some of his classmates talk about the duel they just watched.
"Come on. Even you have to admit it was a pretty good duel." Rio nudged her brother playfully while smirking, only for him to scoff.
"His tactics were incredible. Not only was he able to use Power Wall to ensure he would take less damage from the attack, but he also made great use of his usion cards. Not to mention how earlier, Trusdale was able to negate Zones' Lightning Vortex with his Cyber Dragon Infinity. Even when his life points were cut in half, he still kept his cool." Of course, Izuku began to mutter different facts and observations he made while watching the duel, which did more than cause some of his classmates to sweatdrop.
"It's still a bit weird to see Midoriya act like this." Tsuyu admitted to Ochaco as the two girls watched Izuku take out a small notepad and write down a few things.
"Yeah. He's always been like that." Sato confessed while rubbing the back of his head.
"Really? You knew him, Sato?" Ochaco asked her fellow classmate with a curious tone.
"Yup. He was actually the first person I dueled since coming to Musutafa. Trust me, he hounded me for answers after I showed off my Madolche combo." Sato explained to them with a fond smile before he walked up to Izuku, patting his back. "Come on, man. Snap out of it."
"H-Huh?" Izuku finally got over his rant and noticed the look on Sato's face, making him blush in embarrassment. "T-Thank you, Rikido."
"No problem, buddy. That was a pretty cool duel, am I right?" Sato asked, which Izuku nodded.
"Is something going on?" The two friends turned around as Tenya and Syrus entered the room, with the latter carrying several books.
"You just missed it! Zane Truesdale made an epic comeback and won the Kamino Tournament!" Kaminari explained to them with a big grin.
"Trust me. You might've liked it, Iida." Alexis told the glasses-wearing duelist.
"Oh, so my big brother won?" Syrus offhandedly remarked while putting his books on a nearby table
"... Huh?" Everyone stopped what they were doing and slowly turned towards the blue-haired teen, who noticed their stares.
"Ummm… w-what?" Syrus asked with an uneasy tone.
"Did… did you say… BIG BROTHER?!" Mineta shouted, trying to get some form of clarification.
"Yes, he did." Tenya answered while fixing his glasses a bit. "Zane Truesdale is the older brother of Syrus here. Did you not realize that?"
"NO WAY!" Most of the students began to question Syrus about his relationship with Zane, from duel tactics to a few personal things(mostly asked by Mina and Toru).
"G-Guys! I can't answer everything at once!" Syrus shouted as he shrunk down a bit. Like with Izuku, the poor boy suffered from social awkwardness.
"EVERYONE!" Tenya shouted, getting everyone's attention. "Shame on you! Don't you see the discomfort you're bringing to our classmate?!"
Noticing this, everyone backed away from the young man, giving soft apologies.
"You all better get some rest while you can." The students were caught by surprise when their teacher, Shouta Aizawa, walked in the room, his hands in his pockets. "Tomorrow's gonna push all of you to your limits."
"Excuse me sir, but what do you mean?" Momo asked politely. Some students wondered if they were going on a special field trip while others dreaded the thought of a big test.
"You'll see." Was all Aizawa told them before he walked away, much to their confusion.
"That was… weird. Anyone know what's up?" Jirou asked everyone, who shook their heads in response.
But little did they know… tomorrow would be the start of an intense challenge.
'School auditorium, the next morning'
Like Aizawa said the day before, the day would be a rather important one for the students of Duel Academy as every student, from Slifer to Ra to Obelisk, all gathered inside the auditorium. The size of the student populace inside was enough to unnerve quite a few people, including a certain grenette.
"T-There's so many students here." Izuku muttered to himself with a nervous tone as he took a mental count of how many students there were. Some were obviously in the same grade as him while others were his upperclassmen, all of whom stood tall with smiles on their faces.
"You're telling me." Alexis admitted to her roommate, though she wasn't as overwhelmed as he was since she was used to it. "I wonder what the news is."
"Perhaps it has something to do with our class, or maybe with the seniors of this school. Such an opportunity would be beneficial for all of us." Tenya believed with his glasses shining a bit.
"Attention! Attention!" The students were soon silenced as principal Nezu stood on the podium, though he had to use a few books in order to make himself visible. "Thank you all for your attendance on such short notice. Now, I'm sure most of you are curious about why we are holding an assembly." He asked the students rhetorically with his usual smile. "Today is the start of a yearly tradition here in Duel Academy: The School Duel Festival."
"The Duel Festival?! Is it that time already?!"
"Oh yeah! It starts in the middle of October."
"I wonder if this year's new students have what it takes." Multiple upperclassmen began to speak amongst themselves in regards to the news.
"For those who are unaware of how the School Duel Festival will function, allow me to explain." Principal Nezu started to explain as a large holo screen appeared behind him, showing multiple silhouettes with duel disks. "The School Duel Festival will take place over the next two weeks. Students will duel against one another and the victor will receive a digital medallion." Two of the silhouettes began to duel before the one on the right won, with a medallion appearing over them. "These medallions will appear in your duel disk database and will stay with you until you have either collected 20 or you lose one to a duel. Students may only wager one medallion per duel and no exceptions will be made. In addition to this, you may only duel one student at a time. Once you defeat them, you are not allowed to duel them again, even if they acquired another medallion."
"Will we be allowed to duel each other during class?" One of the students in the front questioned while raising his hand.
"No. Duels for the Festival will only be conducted outside of class time. We wouldn't want a simple tournament to take away from your education, now do we?" Nezu asked rhetorically, making the student who asked the question shrink a bit in embarrassment. "However, under no circumstances are you to cheat in any way. If a student is found tampering with the medallion system or they behave in an unsportsmanlike behavior, you will automatically be removed from the Festival and be severely punished. Is that clear to everyone?" All the students nodded in agreement, understanding the rules. "Excellent! Oh, and there is one more small detail I would like to tell you: the top 16 students with the most medallions will compete against one another. The top five students with the most wins will participate in our annual School Duel against North Academy."
"North Academy?" Ochaco questioned her classmates in confusion.
"They're another academy that specializes in Duel Monsters. However, due to our academy's reputation, most duelists apply here." Tenya explained thoroughly. "Though, I did hear that both schools have somewhat of a rivalry with one another."
"As we speak, your duel disks are being updated for this Festival, so I implore you to duel as much as your heart desires. And please remember one thing." Nezu's smile grew slightly more as he opened his arms. "Enjoy your duels and grow from them! Push past your limits and go Plus Ultra!"
The principal's words caused every student to clap and cheer, motivated to participate in the Duel Festival.
However… There was one person who felt rather nervous about the Festival.
'Later that day'
"I summon Zoodiac Drident!"
"Got ya! Activate trap card, Trap Hole!"
"Now, I use Polymerization to fuse King's, Queen's and Jack's Knights!"
Once the assembly was over, the students of Duel Academy began what could only be described as an all-out duel war. If one were to walk along the campus, they would see at least half a dozen duels being conducted by the students, either on their lunch breaks or at the end of their classes.
Regardless, it was an entertaining sight for many of the students and even some of the teachers.
"I tune my level one Speedroid Tri-Eyed Dice with my Terrortop and Horseslits!" Tenya declared as he aimed his arm at his three machine-type monsters. The level one Tuner monster turned into a single green ring as the other two monsters entered it, transforming into seven white stars that aligned in a single line. "Witness the power of wind and metal join forces as a new creature emerges! I Synchro summon… Hi-Speedroid Kitedrake!"
The stars unleashed a large pillar of light within the ring, followed by the sound of a bellowing roar. Emerging from the light was a large mechanical dragon-like robot with a gray and blue color scheme, orange eyes, a long disc patterned tail and several green kite-like wings spread along its back.
Hi-Speedroid Kitedrake: LVL 8. Att: 3000/Def: 2800
"Not a bad monster, Iida. But you don't have enough to take out my Spark Dragon and Paladynamo!" Kaminari called out with a confident tone as his two XYZ monsters hovered in front of him defensively. He was a little under 3000 life points while Iida stood at 1750, which meant one more attack would lead to his first medallion for the festival.
"He's not wrong. I mean Iida's monster only has enough to take out one monster. And even then, he wouldn't do much damage." Hagakure commented while eating her sandwich, watching the duel from a nearby table with her female classmates.
"True. But this new monster must have an ability to change the outcome." Momo added while chewing on her cookie.
"I activate Kitedrake's ability!" Tenya declared confidently, making Kaminari widen his eyes. "When it is summoned, I can use one of two abilities. I use the ability to destroy every other card on the field!"
"SERIOUSLY?!" Dropping his cocky attitude, Kaminari watched in horror as Kitedrake opened its back, revealing several missiles inside. With a roar, Kitedrake fired all its missiles in the air, causing them all to fall down and hit the field, engulfing it in multiple holographic explosions. Both of Kaminari's XYZ monsters, as well as his sole backrow card were destroyed, leaving him open for an attack(though he was able to draw a card thanks to Paladynamo's ability.)
"You dueled well, Kaminari." Tenya admitted with a smile. "But now, it is time to end this! Kitedrake, attack!" The Synchro monster opened its mouth before unleashing a beam of swirling wind. Kaminari could only widen his eyes as the attack struck him, causing him to fall backwards as the rest of his life points dropped to zero. Once it did, Kitedrake disappeared as Tenya and Kaminari's duel disks deactivated.
"Duel completed. Tenya Iida: two medallions. Denki Kaminari: zero medallions." The duel disk A.I informed the two as Tenya walked over to his fallen classmate.
"Awww man! I thought for sure I had you!" Kaminari complained while rubbing his face in frustration.
"You were close, I admit. After your combination of Honest and Paladynamo, I was sure I would lose." Tenya confessed as he offered his classmate a hand. Kaminari looked at him for a moment before he smiled and took the hand, allowing the bespectacled teen to pull him up. "Thank you for dueling me."
"Same. But next time we duel, I'm going to win!" Kaminari told him with a confident tone.
"You realize you won't get another medallion if you dueled him again, right?" Jirou called out from the table, making Kaminari deflate a bit upon realizing that. "Still, not a bad duel."
"Thanks… I'm gonna get a soda." With that, Kaminari walked away.
"You finish your duel, Iida?" Izuku, Alexis and Syrus walked up to their friend, with the former two having duel disks attached to their arms.
"Yes and I won." Tenya informed them with a slightly proud tone before he looked at them. "And how were your duels?"
"Pretty good. I had to deal with a Vylon deck. They really love using equip spells, don't they?" Alexis informed him as the four went to their table, ready to finish their lunch. "So, how was the duel with Kaminari?"
"Excellent. I believe the two of us have improved much since coming to this school. Hopefully, my brother sees it that way." Tenya ke up while reaching into his backpack, taking out a thermos.
"Brother?" Izuku asked in a curious tone as Tenya unscrewed the top, using it to pour a drink.
"Oh yeah. He has an older brother who's a pretty famous duelist." Syrus finally spoke up.
"And as an Iida, we both strive to honor our family name with dignity and honor!" Tenya proudly told them as his glasses shined a bit as if to prove his point.
"Wow. That sounds great, Iida. I wish I had a brother." Izuku confessed with a sigh. Being an only child was kinda lonely, especially when his mom and dad were working or doing something else. "You mentioned you had a brother before, right Alexis?"
"Yeah… he's something." Alexis said with a chuckle and sweatdrop, much to their curiosity.
"What do you mean?" Tenya asked with a raised brow.
"Well, he graduated from here not too long ago and he is a pretty good duelist. He always beat me whenever we dueled. But…" Alexis turned away while scratching the back of her head. "He's also… kind of a flirt."
"Flirt?" Both Izuku and Tenya asked in unison.
"Whenever he saw a cute girl, he'd go out of his way to flirt with them and somehow, it worked." She explained with a slightly bigger sweatdrop. "By the time he finished his first year here, he had thirty five girlfriends. And when some of them found out… he kinda got in trouble."
"... Well, that was… interesting." Tenya admitted with his own sweatdrop, not expecting to hear such a thing.
"Ummm… what about you, Truesdale? I'm sure you have a lot of stories about your brother." Izuku asked the other male of the small group, wanting to steer away from the awkwardness that was Atticus Rhodes.
"Yeah… Zane's amazing." Syrus started, though for some reason, he looked down at the table. "He's always so calm and cool whenever he dueled, he got perfect grades, all the girls liked him, all the guys wanted to be him, he got his driver's license on his first try, he graduated from here in top honors, everyone loves him… and then there's me."
"What do you mean by that?" Alexis questioned, noticing the tone he used to refer to himself.
"I'm… nothing like him. I mean… look at me." Syrus gestured to himself. "I barely get good grades, my dueling is okay at best and on top of that, whenever I try to talk to a new girl, I get so nervous I end up looking like an idiot. And yet people still wanna know more about Zane than me." He lowered his head once again in shame. "And seeing his duel made me feel worse. I'll never be as good a duelist as any of you."
The other three were surprised, in all honesty. Sure, Syrus was a nervous guy who could fanboy about Duel Monsters from time to time, but they never saw him this depressed. In fact, it looked like he wasn't gonna participate in the Duel Festival at all, which would be a big mistake.
"... No. That won't do." Alexis suddenly stood up, catching Izuku and Tenya's attention. "Syrus, we're dueling."
"Wait what?!" Syrus pushed his moment of depression for a moment as he looked up at Alexis with wide eyes.
"You heard me. We're dueling. 5:30. At the west Duel Dome." Alexis practically ordered him with a smirk.
"B-B-B-B-B-" The light blue-haired teen stuttered a lot, trying to understand why she was being so pushy about dueling him.
"See you there." Without saying another word, the beautiful duelist walked away, leaving her three friends completely speechless.
"... That was rather unexpected and rather rude." Tenya spoke up with a small frown. "She shouldn't have forced something like this, especially in a friendly competition."
"Yeah. I have no idea why she did that." Izuku confessed before he stood up too. "I'll go ask her about that. But Truesdale… are you gonna duel her?"
"..." Syrus said nothing as he once again looked down at the table. Izuku and Tenya gave each other a look before the former went after his roommate.
'I might regret this…' Syrus thought while clenching his hand to a fist.
'West Duel Dome, 5:25PM'
Having finished yet another day of classes and the occasional duel practice, Syrus and Tenya made their way towards the West Duel Dome, where Alexis had challenged the former. Still, even during class, Alexis hadn't told them anything about why she wanted to duel them, though they believed it might be because of the Duel Festival.
"Are you prepared, Truesdale?" Tenya asked his old friend, who looked more nervous than usual.
"Honestly… no. I mean why target me of all people? Is it for an easy win?" Syrus questioned as a fictional dark cloud appeared over his head.
"Of course not! Rhodes may be more outgoing than others, but she would never do something so dishonorable." Tenya defended Alexis, though this didn't build up Syrus' confidence either. "I'm sure she has a good reason."
"I hope you're right." Was all Syrus muttered before the two entered the Duel Dome. Once they reached the duel field, they found Alexis, standing on the left side with her arms crossed and her eyes closed calmly. Standing outside of the duel field was Izuku, who looked a bit nervous for some reason.
"Glad you made it. I was starting to think you bailed." Alexis spoke up while opening her eyes, looking at Syrus. "Ready?"
"Before we do this, I have to ask: are you dueling me so you can get another easy medallion or something?" Syrus asked as he walked over to the other side of the duel field while Tenya went to stand with Izuku.
"You'll find out when we get started." Alexis replied with a serious tone as she uncrossed her arms, lifting her duel disk up. Syrus gulped a bit at the fierce look in her eyes before he reluctantly raised his own duel disk. "I, Alexis Rhodes, challenge Syrus Truesdale to a duel. I wager one medallion."
"Medallion wager has been initiated. Do you accept, Syrus Trusdale?" Syrus' duel disk A.I asked.
"Y-Y-Yeah." Syrus stuttered in agreement. Both duel disks began to beep for a moment before they stopped, activating the energy blade for the duel.
"DUEL/D-DUEL!"
Alexis/Syrus: 8000 LP
"Midoriya, why is Rhodes doing this?" Tenya couldn't help but mutter to Izuku as the two duelists drew their first five cards.
"To help him." Izuku answered rather cryptically as he recalled what his roommate told him.
'Flashback'
"H-Hey! Alexis!" Said girl stopped walking as Izuku ran up to her, stopping just a few feet away as he panted a bit. "Why… did you… challenge Truesdale… to a duel… like that?" He asked between breaths while rubbing his forehead.
"You saw the way he was acting." Alexis suddenly spoke up, much to Izuku's confusion. "He acts like he doesn't deserve to be here just cause people compare him to his brother. Trust me, I know how that feels." She then turned towards Izuku and gave him a smile, the wind blowing and waving her hair a bit. "People used to compare me to Atticus, so I know how annoying it can be. That's why I wanna show Syrus that he doesn't need to be like Zane. That he can be his own duelist. So that's why I'm dueling him.'
'Flashback end'
"Since I was the one who challenged you, you can make the first move." Alexis told Syrus.
"O-Okay… thanks." Syrus let out a sigh before he drew his sixth card, looking at his hand. 'Oh no! I don't have a monster I can't normal summon or set! And the only monster I do have is level six! Okay… relax. What would Zane do?'
"It seems he has a bad starting hand." Tenya muttered, noticing his friend's panicked expression. It was one of the many flaws Syrus had: he didn't know how to make a good poker face.
"I-I-I set four cards facedown. Turn end." Four facedown cards appeared in front of Syrus briefly before disappearing, signaling the end of his turn.
"That bad of a hand, huh? Then watch this!" Alexis drew her card before looking at it. "I summon Cyber Egg Angel in attack mode!" A ball of light appeared in front of Alexis before it dimmed down, revealing a small glass-scaled egg with green metal wings.
Cyber Egg Angel: LV 2. Att: 200/Def: 300
"And when this little egg's summoned, I can add a Machine Angel or Ritual Sanctuary spell from my deck to my hand!" The egg cracked open as a ball of light hit Alexis' deck, causing it to eject one card out before she added it to her hand. "Next, I activate Machine Angel Ritual!"
*Crack*
The duel field suddenly began to crack open as a large stone coffin rose from it, with a large flame altar behind it.
"I use the Cyber Angel Tutuban from my hand to ritual summon one Cyber Angel monster whose level is equal to that monster." Alexis explained as she raised her monster card. It soon flew over the coffin as a glowing magic circle appeared on it, turning the card into five glowing balls of light. "Ride into battle and defend me and my monsters. I ritual summon… Cyber Angel Natasha!"
The magic circle began to glow brighter as the coffin shattered. The three males watched in amazement as a female centaur-like monster with black legs, a white skirt, golden armor, four arms, a red cape, a long white tail and a gold mask rode onto the field.
Cyber Angel Natasha: LV 5. Att: 1000/Def: 1000
"Interesting. So Rhodes specializes in ritual summoning? A rather old fashioned summoning method, but it is still well respected." Tenya couldn't help but comment as he looked at the new monster.
"Natasha may look weak, but it's a surprisingly defensive monster." Izuku admitted, having faced Natasha during his little practice duels with Alexis.
"First, Cyber Angel Tutubon's ability activates!" Alexis' graveyard slot began to glow. "Whenever she's used for a ritual summon, I can add one ritual spell from my graveyard to my hand." Machine Angel Ritual ejected from the graveyard before she added it to her hand. "Cyber Angel Natasha's ability activates. Healing Aura!" Alexis commanded as Natasha used two arms to create a ball of light. "I can target a monster on my field and gain life points equal to half of its attack points, and I choose Natasha!" Soon, the ritual monster threw the light in the air, allowing it to spread in the air and rain on its duelist.
Alexis: 8000-8500
"So every turn, you can just heal? Amazing!" Syrus blurted out before he realized what he did. "O-Oh. Sorry."
"I wouldn't be too impressed." Alexis warned him with a smirk as she aimed her arm forward. "Cyber Egg Angel, attack him directly! The small monster began to flap its wings before it suddenly launched at Syrus at high speed.
"Ummm… I… I use Draining Shield!" Syrus shouted as one of his facedowns rose up, revealing a trap with an image of an attack hitting a magic barrier. "Your attack is negated and I gain life points equal to your monster's attack points!" Cyber Egg Angel suddenly ran into a barrier, which stopped its attack. Then, the shield shattered and turned to light, which went into Syrus.
Syrus: 8000-8300
"... You realize you could have used it when Nayasha attacked, right?" Alexis pointed out with a sweatdrop, making Syrus blink a bit before he gasped.
"OH NO! I MESSED UP!" Syrus shouted while holding his head, scratching it in shame. He knew he reacted too quickly, but he didn't want to take damage if he could. That way, he could at least put up a fight.
"Oh well. Natasha, attack!" The ritual monster began to gallop towards Syrus, much to his horror. Turning around, Natasha kicked Syrus with its back legs, the force of it causing him to fall on his back.
Syrus: 8300-7300
"I end my turn. Your move." Alexis declared with her arms crossed.
"Okay. My turn." Syrus said with a disappointed tone as he drew his next card, only to widen his eyes. 'YES! I have a monster I can summon!' "I summon Submarineroid in attack mode!" Appearing in front of the younger of the Truesdale brothers was a blue and yellow cartoonish submarine with eyes in front of it and two arms.
Submarineroid: LV 4. Att: 800/Def: 1800
"Now, attack!" Syrus declared as the bottom of the submarine opened, allowing a torpedo to eject out and for its arms to catch it. "And did I forget to tell you Submarineroid's special ability? He can attack you directly!" This actually surprised Alexis and Izuku, especially since Submarineroid was a rather weak monster. Speaking of the machine-type monster, it released its torpedo, allowing it to launch itself forward and past Alexis' monsters, hitting the opponent directly.
Alexis: 8500-7700
"And the next part of Submarineroid's ability activates! Whenever he attacked, he gets switched into defense mode!" The machine-type monster then crossed its arms in a defensive stance. "I end my turn!"
"Wow. So he was able to not only inflict battle damage, but now his monster is in defense mode. Roid monsters are really interesting." Izuku commented while taking out his notepad and pen, writing down what he had witnessed.
"Not bad. Glad you made a move like that." Alexis admitted before she drew her next card, smirking at it. "But it's time I got a little monster serious."
"M-More serious?" Syrus asked, not expecting to hear that.
"I activate Machine Angel Ritual again!" Alexis shouted as she played her ritual spell for the second time in this duel, with the coffin and altar appearing in front of her. "For this ritual, I tribute the level six Cyber Angel Idaten!" Alexis showed one ritual monster in her hand before it was absorbed into the flames. "With this one tribute, I summon forth the lady of wind and strength. I ritual summon… Cyber Angel Benten!" The magic circle appeared over the coffin once again as the coffin shattered apart. Emerging from the rubble was another female warrior: this one dressed a white and blade tight outfit with red boots, red arm guards, long black hair tied up by the end of it, pupil-less eyes, face paint and a gold horn-like crown on her head.
Cyber Angel Benten: LV 6. Att: 1800/Def: 1500
"Benten is an impressively strong monster, but it doesn't have the strength to destroy Submarineroid." Tenya pointed out with his arms crossed.
"That's where Idaten comes in." Izuku answered him with a knowing smile.
"Since Idaten was tributed, her special ability activates!" Alexis shouted as her graveyard slot began to glow. "Now, all Cyber Angel ritual monsters on my field gain one thousand attack and defense points!"
Cyber Angel Natasha: Att: 1000-2000/Def: 1000-2000
Cyber Angel Benten: Att: 1800-2800/Def: 2500
"Oh no…" Syrus muttered, a growing fear crept in his chest.
"This might hurt, so I'm sorry in advance." Alexis apologized before she gestured to Natasha. "But first, Natasha will give me half of Benten's attack points as life points!" Natasha used her special ability to give her duelist life points.
Alexis: 7700-9100
"Now Benten, attack Submarineroid! Blade Fan!" Benten leapt in the air before tossing her fan towards Submarineroid.
"I-I activate my other trap, Supercharge!" Syrus' last facedown rose up, showing a trap with an image of a yellow cartoon car opening its hood, revving its engine. "Whenever your monster attacks while the only monsters I have are Roid monsters, I can draw two cards!" Syrus did just that as Benten's fan struck Submarineroid, causing it to explode.
"Pretty good. But now Benten can use her ability." Alexis smirked confidently. "When she destroys a monster, you take damage equal to its defense points."
"If that's the case… oh no…" Syrus gulped as Benten's fan suddenly flew out of the smoke and struck him, making him trip back.
Syrus: 7300-5500
"Natasha, Cyber Egg Angel, attack him directly!" Alexis' two remaining monsters rush in and strike Syrus, making him roll back.
Syrus: 5500-5200-3200
"I end my turn." Alexis ended her turn before she noticed Syrus was still on the ground. "Aren't you gonna get up?"
"What's the point?" Syrus sadly said out loud while getting on his hands and knees. "I don't have anything that can help me win, so why even bother?"
"Truesdale, don't give up!" Izuku shouted while lowering his notepad. "You might still have a ch-"
"DON'T YOU GET IT?! I'M NOT LIKE ZANE!" Syrus suddenly shouted in frustration, catching Izuku and Tenya off guard while Alexis narrowed her eyes. "I messed up on one move… one move and I'm already close to losing. I panicked and used my trap too early. Zane would never have made a stupid mistake."
"Will you stop that? Who cares if you aren't Zane?!" Alexis shouted in a surprisingly annoyed tone, getting Syrus' attention. "No one's asking you to be like your older brother. And if they think that, then don't listen to them. You're you and that's all that matters."
"B-But I-"
"You made one mistake? So what? I made mistakes before too." Alexis pointed out while gesturing to herself. "But I grew cause of it. And I know you can do the same." She then adopted a friendly smile. "Besides, isn't dueling supposed to be fun?"
"She's right, Truesdale. Dueling isn't meant to be taken seriously." Izuku called out with his own smile. "All Might always said 'Dueling is the way to create inseparable bonds.' I know when I duel, I get to learn more about my opponent."
"Don't push yourself too much, Syrus. Learn to simply have fun and not think about anything." Tenya finished with a knowing tone. Syrus looked at his three friends with a genuinely surprised tone. They were right: he was taking the whole 'be like Zane thing' too far and he forgot what it meant to duel. So what if he made a mistake? As long as he had life points, he could still duel!
Standing up, Syrus clenched his fists before slapping both his cheeks, leaving visible red marks on them. "Okay! Thanks for that, guys." The three gave him a nod of understanding. "Alright. I draw!" He drew his next card, only to smile at it. "I play the field spell, Megaroid City!"
*Rumble*
The entire area suddenly began to transform into a large city-wide factory, completely with railroads, highways and a large base in the center of it.
"I set one card facedown." Syrus set one card on the field. "Now I can play Megaroid City's effect! By destroying one card on the field, I can add one Roid monster from my deck to my hand!" The facedown that was set suddenly vanished as the base opened up, sending a light into Syrus' hand before it transformed into a card. "Next, I summon Cargoroid in attack mode!"
The top of the base opened up, revealing a helipad before a new machine flew in front of Syrus. It was a light green chopper with gray rotors that had red tips on the end of each blade, a medical symbol on the left door and cartoon eyes on the front.
Cargoroid: LV 4. Att: 1400/Def: 1000
"When the only monster I have on the field is Cargoroid, I can activate its special ability! Roid Salvage!" Cargoroid began to fly in the air as a portal appeared on the ground. "I can summon back one Roid monster from my graveyard, but it can't attack this turn. Welcome back, Submarineroid!" Launching a hook from its bottom, Cargoroid dropped it down into the portal before it pulled out Submarineroid, who looked more than a little ticked at being destroyed. "Then… I play Polymerization!" Syrus showed them the iconic spell card used in practically all fusion decks. "With this, I can fuse Submarineroid, Cargoroid and the Jetroid in my hand!" Both monsters began to float in the air, along with a red bipedal cartoon jet as a vortex began to absorb them inside. "With these three helpful machines, I'll bring out a new monster that'll really bring the heat. I fusion summon… Super Vehicroid-Hyper Submersible Rescue Fighter!"
Appearing in front of the shorter teen was a bipedal robot: it has Submarineroid as its chest, a black jet on its back, large gray arms and legs, and the front of Cargoroid was its head. In addition, the chopper blades from Cargoroid were attached to the right arm.
Super Vehicroid-Hyper Submersible Rescue Fighter: LV 9. Att: 2600/Def: 2000
"Well dang. Now that's a fusion monster." Alexis admitted while looking at the new monster.
"You think that's cool? Wait until you see its special ability!" Syrus confidently told her with a smile. "When I use two monsters with the same attribute, like Cargoroid and Jetroid, this monster can destroy one monster on the field. Say goodbye to Benten!" The fusion monster began to spin its propellers, creating a large gust of wind(though Alexis actually had to lower her skirt to avoid flashing anyone). Benten tried to hold out, but the wind was too much and she was destroyed. "Now, attack her Cyber Egg Angel!" The monster turns its attention to the weaker of Alexis' monsters, pulling its left fist back.
"Before you do, I activate Honest's ability from my hand!" Alexis showed him a card of an angel with several wings. "When you attack a light monster on my field, its gains attack points equal to your monster's."
"That would work… if it wasn't for Submersible Rescue Fighter's special ability!" Syrus announced with a finger raised in the air. "When it attacks, you can't use any card effects until the end of the damage step!"
"No way!" Izuku shouted with wide eyes as Alexis' card began to spark up, negating Honest's ability. Cyber Egg Angel could only watch as the fusion monster struck it with its fist, shattering it completely.
Alexis: 9100-6800
"Good. Syrus was able to deal a good amount of damage." Tenya commented with a nod.
"But I'm not done yet!" Syrus shouted while aiming his fist towards his fusion monster. "Once per turn, I can attack all your monsters at once!" This made Alexis widen her eyes in surprise as the fusion monster turned towards Natasha. "Attack her Natasha! Hyper Blazing Fist!" Clenching its right fist, the fusion monster began to throw a punch towards Natasha, its fist heating up with every inch. The ritual monster tried to defend against the punch, but the power behind it was too strong and it eventually caused Natasha to explode.
Alexis: 6800-6200
"I end my turn with a card facedown!" Syrus ended his turn with a big smile and a facedown card, happy to finish his comeback.
"Wow. That was such a comeback!" Izuku wrote down everything he had found out about the Roid fusion monster.
"Yes. Perhaps he will continue this trend." Tenya added, keeping an eye on his good friend.
"That was a pretty good move, Syrus. Really good." Alexis confused, making her opponent chuckle a bit in embarrassment. "But I'm still winning this duel!" She drew her next card, only to widen her eyes before smirking. "First, I play Cyber Angel Natasha's ability from the graveyard!"
"A graveyard effect?!" Syrus blurted out with a shocked tone.
"That's right. If I have another Cyber Angel in the graveyard while Natasha is there, I can banish it and bring back Natasha. Not only that, but I also get to take control of a monster on your field!" Alexis explained as her graveyard slot began to glow. "So by banishing Benten, I can revive Natasha and take your Submersible Rescue Fighter!"
"Sorry, but that won't happen! Activate Emergeroid Call!" Syrus' facedown rose, revealing a trap with an image of multiple Roid monsters driving ahead. "Since I have a Roid fusion monster on my field, I can negate any spell, trap or monster effect you use!" Alexis' graveyard slot then stopped glowing, though she was still forced to banish Benten. "How was that?"
"Pretty good… but that gives the perfect chance to use this! Preparation of Rites!" Alexis declared while activating a spell card with two black robed figures investigating several tombs. "With this, I can add a level seven or lower ritual monster from my deck to my hand, as well as add a ritual spell from my graveyard to my hand. I add another Cyber Angel Idaten from my deck and take Machine Angel Ritual back from my graveyard." A card ejected out of both Alexis' deck and graveyard, allowing her to add them to her hand. "I now activate Machine Angel Ritual, which lets me ritual summon another Cyber Angel monster!" For the third time in the duel, the coffin and magic circle appeared on her field. "I use Cyber Angel Idaten and my level four Honest from my hand!" Both monsters entered the magic circle, creating ten lights inside. "You may have brought out a mechanical fighter, but I'm about to bring out something ethereal! I ritual summon… Cyber Angel Vrash!" The magic circle entered the coffin before it shattered, with a lone figure jumping out of it and landing on the field.
The new monster was yet another female monster: it donned a pink and purple outfit, four arms with purple arm guards, white boots, golden brackets on its wrists, large white shoulder guards, a glass eye mask with a long pink hat on her head, a large golden year on her back and several white veils coming out of her back.
Cyber Angel Vrash: LV 10. Att: 3000/Def: 2000
"And like before, when Idaten is tributed, Vrash gains 1000 attack and defense points!" The new ritual monster began to glow, showing the power of Idaten coursing through her body.
Cyber Angel Vrash: Att: 3000-4000/Def: 2000-3000
"Oh… that's a power boost. But… I can handle it." Syrus told Alexis, though it was clear he was still nervous.
"Yeah, that's gonna be a problem for you." Alexis unfortunately told him as Vrash began to glow. "When she's ritual summoned, she can destroy any special summoned monsters from the extra deck and you take 1000 points of damage for each one."
"... I should've kept my mouth shut." Syrus deflated almost instantly as two of Vrash's veils began to form a ball of yellow energy. She then fired a beam of light into the fusion monster, causing it to explode as the shockwave knocked Syrus on his butt.
Syrus: 3200-2200
"B-But thanks to my monster's final ability, I can special summon one of its fusion materials on the field in defense mode! Come back, Submarineroid!" A blue light appeared in front of Syrus before Submarineroid returned in a defensive stance.
"Vrash, attack his Submarineroid!" The ritual monster fired another energy beam with one of its veils, destroying Syrus' only monster.
'Good. That's all she could do.' Syrus thought with a relieved sigh.
"Oh, and did I forget to tell you another of Vrash's abilities?" Alexis broke his relief as her monster turned towards him. "Whenever her ability destroys your special summoned monster, she gains an additional attack."
"Oh no…" Izuku muttered, knowing what would happen.
"Vrash, end this duel!" Alexis' monster once again charged at energy attack before firing it at Syrus, who could only cross his arms as he was hit with the attack.
Syrus: 2200-0; Winner: Alexis Rhodes
"Duel completed. Alexis Rhodes: three medallions. Syrus Truesdale: zero medallions."The duel disk A.I informed them as Alexis' monster and Syrus' field spell disappeared. Syrus fell on his hands and knees once again, much to his friends' concern as they walked up to him.
"You okay?" Alexis asked while offering him a hand. However, she and the other two were surprised when they started to hear Syrus chuckle.
"Sorry. I'm just a little embarrassed." Syrus confessed as he looked up, showing them his smile as he took Alexis' hand to stand up. "Thanks for dueling me, Alexis. I needed a wake up call."
"No problem. Trust me. I know how it feels to be compared to a big brother." Alexis informed him, thinking of Atticus.
"But that was incredible! The way you used Submersible Rescue Fighter's abilities to deal damage was great! Not to mention your field spell and Cargoroid!" Izuku told the light blue-haired teen with an energetic tone.
"Are you feeling better?" Tenya asked his old friend while putting a hand on his shoulder.
"I'm fine. I may not be like Zane, but I can at least try to be a good duelist. And that was a fun duel." Syrus told them before he looked at his hand, clenching it. "Maybe one day… Zane will acknowledge me."
*Flick*
"OWW!" His little moment of thought was interrupted when Alexis flicked his forehead, making him look at her in surprise. "Why?"
"To snap you out of it." Alexis simply said as she started to walk away. However, she then turned around and gave the guys a look. "Well, aren't you coming? We still got time to get some dinner."
The three male teens smiled before they followed their friend.
However, they failed to notice someone else was listening in.
'Not bad, Syrus. You definitely remind me of Zane.' Shouta Aizawa thought as he had watched the duel quietly, a very small smile on his face before he reached into his pocket, pulling out his phone and dialing a certain number. He put it against his ear and waited for the person on the other side to pick up, which they did. "Hey. It's me. I wanted to tell you about your brother."
"You didn't fail him, did you?" The person on the other side of the call asked.
"Not yet. He showed some progress. He thought he needed to be as good as you. He even fought Atticus' younger sister." Aizawa explained.
"Hmmm. Who won?"
"She did. But your brother put up a good fight. Just thought you should know." Aizawa told the person, who stayed quiet for a moment before finally speaking.
"Thanks, teach." With that, the person on the other end hung up, allowing Aizawa to leave the duel dome without anyone noticing.
I wonder who Aizawa could have called. Maybe he was calling a pro duelist. Or maybe he was calling All Might himself.
… You know it was Zane, didn't you? Well, I guess I made it really obvious.
But in all seriousness, yes. I am back to do more chapters of this story since I don't wanna give up a fun idea like this. Hope you guys enjoyed the duel, even though it was a rather short one(then again, it was Syrus against Alexis). I felt that both of them should've had a duel like this in the GX anime since they both have older brothers who are shown to be the best of the best. Then again, I did like the short duel between Jaden and Syrus, so I can't complain.
The first of many tournament arcs has officially begun for this story and there will be quite a few interesting duels. Trust me when I say North Academy will have some familiar duelists in their ranks, so expect some interesting interactions.
As for my dueling ID for Master Duel, it's 521-758-679. If you guys wanna duel or if you want to participate in a small tournament, let me know and I will set a date. I wanna see you guys get your game on!
